Obituary Preview: Janet (Oney) Hutchinson, 81, of Marietta died Saturday April 10th, 2021, peacefully at home. She was
born June 12, 1939 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to Bill and Bessie Oney.
Janet worked briefly caring for the elderly, volunteered at Community Action, and was passionate about caring for all those around her. She was a proud homemaker and loved to cook, garden, and sew. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Janet is survived by two sons, Bill (Cindy) of Marietta, and Nick (Molly) of Lowell, one daughter, Kathy Delancey of Caldwell, ID, four grandchildren, Misty Ash (Logan), Jon Hutchinson (Missy), Kristy Oty (Amin Mason), Krisha Smith (Grant), seven great-grandchildren, Sophie & Carter Hutchinson, Addison & Barrett Ash, Parker Oty, and Piper & Marley Smith, and two sisters, Polly Rempel
and Fay Watson (Bo) of Parkersburg, WV.

Robert Mattern Wark - July 11, 1942 - March 30, 2021

Obituary Preview: Robert M. Wark, 78, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at his home. He was born on July 11, 1942 in Marietta, to Dean Robert and Bettie Louise Shoop Wark.
Bob was a 1960 graduate of Marietta High School and received his B.S. in Business with a Major in Accounting from Wittenburg University in 1964. He went to officers candidate school and onto active duty in the Navy during Vietnam, from 1965 to 1969. Bob joined his father in 1970 at Wark Accounting and became a Licensed CPA.
He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ohio Certified Public Accountants and the Marietta Country Club. Bob was well known for his generosity, was a problem solver and loved helping people. He was always willing to lend a hand. Bob enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, working in the yard, watching movies, but most of all, loved watching the grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his wife, Christine W. Wark, whom he married February 13, 1965; two children, David Wark (Susan Borders) of Galena, Ohio and Holli Mannix (Bill) of Marietta; four grandchildren, John, Ryan and Katie Mannix and Delanie Borders; two sisters, Ann Young of Marysville, Ohio and Cindi Engle of Dublin, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Keeping with his wishes there will a celebration of his life in May. Obituary Preview: John Edward Arnold, 68, of 1137 Highland Ridge Road, Lowell, passed away at 10:33 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 peacefully at his home and in the company of family.
He was born December 24, 1952 in Marietta, Ohio, an early Christmas gift for his parents Vincent Andrew and Gertrude Ann Schaad Arnold.
After graduating from Marietta High School in 1970, John enlisted in the Army as part of the 82nd Airborne stationed at Ft. Bragg. After his service, he enrolled in the pipefitters apprenticeship and began his career first at Dravo and then at Amoco/BP/Solvay. John was a member of The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption, The American Legion, The Knights of Columbus and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
One of John’s favorite places to be was in the woods on cool mornings in the Spring or Fall. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with his sons, family, friends, and his trusted beagles Boomer, Beau, Baher I, and Baher II.
John married the love of his life Margaret (Peggy) Alice Schwendeman on October 16, 1976. Together they raised three boys; Shaun (Amy Schilling) of Conroe, TX, Michael (Susannah Hershey) of Flemington, NJ, and Joshua (Jeconda Smith) of Canonsburg, PA. John relished his role as Papa to his five grandchildren; Henry, Ethan, Grace, Sutton, and Hudson.
In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by three sisters, Sandra Albrecht (Larry) of Marietta, Jean Tornes of Marietta, Jane Sims of Orlando, FL; five brothers, Steve Arnold (Dee) of Marietta, Tom Arnold (Donna) of Marietta, Ron Arnold (Beckie) of Marietta, Greg Arnold (Jan) of Katy, TX, and Vince Arnold (Lisa) of Richmond, TX; and 38 nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lou Ann Naylor; two brothers-in-law, Joe Tornes and Steve Soncini; one sister-in-law, Nancy Cain; and one nephew, Matthew Schwendeman.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30 at Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31 at The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption and concelebrated by The Reverend Monsignor John Michael Campbell and The Reverend Dale Tornes. Burial will be in New Saint Mary's Cemetery.

Nancy was a graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education. She was currently a special education teacher for almost 40 years at Wirt County Middle School in West Virginia, where she will be missed by many. Nancy enjoyed crafts, gardening, collecting dolls, flamingos and Jimmy Buffet.
She is survived by her mother, Margaret; father, Barry and his wife, Jean; sister, Kirstin Thomas; long time companion, Sherol Gonzalez; nephews, Jack and Marcus Pumper; niece, Maria Pumper; and her dog, Brodie Jackson, who was by her side with his leash in her hand in the hospital when she died.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Masks will be required, and social distancing will be observed.

Obituary Preview: On Friday, March 19, 2021, Bert William Sullivan, beloved husband and father of five children, passed away at age 79. Bert was born in Bellaire, Ohio on January 17, 1942 to Harry Sullivan and Martha Schramm. He completed a full career in the United States Marine Corps, where he served at the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, and as Honor Guard for two US presidents. He then retired and moved to the private sector, where he retired from Unisys Corporation. He was an avid golfer and could always be found on the course or in church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Sullivan and his wife, Sharon Henshaw.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Sullivan and Patrick Sullivan (Jennifer Sevin-Sullivan), his daughters, Kari Chase (Sean Chase) and Meghan Poling (Brian Poling), and their spouses and children.

Obituary Preview: Deborah L. “Debi” Wilson, 66, of Williamstown, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Marietta Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was born October 10, 1954, in Marietta, Ohio, the only child of the late Forrest F. (Doc) and June Burton Wilson.
Debi graduated from Williamstown High School in 1972. She loved Daytona Beach, so in the early 80’s she moved there to attend Daytona State College. She received her degree in Social Services/Social Work, graduating in 1984. After graduation, she worked as a case manager for Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare, located in Daytona Beach, from 1984-2006. Debi really enjoyed her work there, and took great satisfaction helping her clients achieve their goals. She was surrounded by many healthcare professionals while employed there and made many lifelong friends.
She returned to Williamstown in 2006, to the family home. Debi worked for a number of years at Westbrook Health Services in residential home care. Most recently, she worked at Marietta Memorial Hospital in their Behavioral Health Unit.
Debi loved everything NASCAR and never missed a race. While living in Daytona Beach, she was fortunate to attend several Daytona 500 races. If she couldn’t attend in person, she would listen to them from her apartment. Debi also loved all things paranormal. She listened for years to many radio programs on the subject and enjoyed discussing with her friends about all of the latest theories.
She is survived by many friends and several cousins, including Todd (Darla) Lashley of Lowell, OH, Shanna Gorrell of Beverly, OH, Andrea (Dan) Camp of Lowell, OH, and special friend, Sally Lane of Parkersburg, WV.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 19, 2021, at Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown, WV, with The Reverend Gene Sheppard officiating. Obituary Preview: Joyce Ann Lang, 63, of Marietta, died Friday, March 5, 2021, in Marietta. Born in Marietta on April 3, 1957, she was a daughter of Gerald Andrew and Martha Bauerbach Lang.
Joyce had attended Ewing School from age 5 to 18. After graduation she worked at WASCO for many years. During her years at Ewing, she participated in Ohio Special Olympics sporting events. She had benefited from the services provided by the O'Neill Senior Center. Joyce enjoyed family gatherings and looked
forward to annual reunions and holidays. She could be seen often walking around Marietta, catching the bus at the courthouse to go shopping and having lunch with her good friend Kim Loar. Joyce enjoyed going to mass regularly at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. She would often attend mass with her cousin Betsy Lang or longtime friend Kathy Wetzel. Betsy and Kathy outings was something Joyce greatly enjoyed and would talk about for days. Smitty's was her favorite place to eat; Joyce befriended many of the employees there. Joyce was very social and was always more concerned about how you were doing, then how she was doing herself.
She is survived by her mother, Martha Hunter (Don Parmiter), of Marietta; two sisters, Tammie Farmer (Roger Ketchum), of Hockingport, and Ann Clark (Ivan), of Boardman; her brother, Rick Lang (Denise), of Waterford; six nephews, Brent and Josh Farmer, Austin and Tyler Clark, Jamie and Jared Lang; and by eight grand nephews and nieces. Joyce was preceded in death by her father and a brother-in-law, Greg Farmer.
Funeral Liturgy, with Mass will be 10:00am Monday, March 8, 2021, at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. Monsignor John Michael Campbell celebrating. She is survived by her husband Ralph Cline, who she married Aug. 23, 1972; step-children, Kirk (Vicki) Cline, Cheryl (Rick) Crum; four step-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; a sister, Velma Eichmiller; and several nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a brother

Margie was a 1946 graduate of Marietta High School. She worked for Dudley’s Florist in Marietta for over 25 years, loved gardening, arranging flowers and reading.
She was survived by six children, Miles Farley, Jr. (Sharon), Mark Farley (Lita), David Farley (Beverly), Sheryl Bailey (John), Dianne Crandall (Jim) and Daniel Farley (Shelly); 16 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Miles Farley, Sr. in 1957; two sons, Derckson and Gary Farley; and second husband, James Allen “Jim” Yates in 2020.
Friends will be received on Tuesday 3 to 5 p.m. and for one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. He was a graduate of Waterford High School in 1952. James served in the Army and was part of the 74th Combat Engineers in Korea. He retired from RJF in 1996 as a fork truck operator. James was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Bishop Hartley Assembly, Beverly Legion, and was Watertown Township Trustee for eight years. He also enjoyed farming, draft horses and visiting friends and neighbors.
James is survived by his wife, Norma Jeanette Dyar Thieman, whom he married on May 12, 1962; six daughters; Cynthia Putnam (William), Lorinda Thieman, Melissa Thieman all of Marietta, Julie Marston (Paul) of Groton, MA, Celeste Thieman of Hilliard, OH, and Kristin Thieman of Waterford; four grandchildren; Eric Hooper (Victoria), Cory Hooper, and Bennett and Claire Marston; four great grandchildren; Hoyt, Kimberlyn, Loxley and Magnolia Hooper; two sisters; Betty Strahler of Lowell, and Nancy Miller (Eldon) of Grove City; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou, Barbara and Patricia Thieman of Waterford; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Viola Gerst Thieman; four brothers; Bernard, Robert, Thomas and infant, Richard and brother-in-law Jerry Strahler.
Private Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Revs. David Gaydosik and Dale Tornes con-celebrating. Cindy was a graduate of Villa Maria High School, an all girl's school, in Buffalo. She and her husband, Don, owned and operated North Hills Lanes. This year marks 50 years of owning the bowling alley. Cindy was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, CCL and Bowling Proprietor Association of America and loved working and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Knoch-Bower; three grandchildren, Courtney Knoch, Bryce Knoch and Nicholas Bower; and great grandchild, Juniper Clark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Thomas E. Lewandowski on February 17, 1980 and Donald J. Lanning on February 19, 2005; brother, Anthony Bankoske, Jr.; and her faithful companion, Lexi.

John Lester Doan was born June 28, 1927, to the late Delbert and Cecile Clara Forshey Doan and was one of 4 children...a brother Russell, a sister Virginia preceded him in death. He is survived by a brother Paul, Marietta OH.
Following high school, class of 1945, he served in the US Navy as a clerk in Washington, DC. Following Honorable Discharge, he was employed at Union Carbide in Marietta, and Singer Sheet Metal in Parkersburg. He married Joanne Jean Pickering Doan on August 25, 1957. They celebrated 61 loving years together until her death Nov 6, 2018. They are survived by three children John “Jay” Doan of Parkersburg, WV, Melissa Dalrymple (Bud) of Marietta, OH and Steve Doan (Brandie) of Marietta, OH, seven grandchildren Blake Doan, Justine Wilson, Brianna Cobb, Whitney Jean Doan, Aaron Winer, Ryan Carney, Jared Carney and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with family greeting friends for one hour prior to services. There will be a burial of ashes in Putnam Cemetery following services with full military honors observed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to a charity of the giver’s choosing.

Steve graduated from Marietta High School in 1964 and Bliss Business College in 1969. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served in the 3rd Division, during the Vietnam War, from 1969 to 1971. Steve worked as an accountant at Dravo Corporation until the plant was sold, then he worked for Washington-Morgan Community Action until retirement. On August 27, 1995 he married Sandra Lou Brookover who preceded him in death on May 13, 2009. Steve enjoyed Civil War history and trips, golfing, Warren High School sports, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Marietta College baseball and Ohio University sports.
Steve was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, Sgt. Bob O'Malley Det. 1436 Marine Corps League, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 64 (life member), Sons of American Revolution (SAR), Sons of Union Veterans (SUV) where he was one of the charter members, Washington County Historical Society, Washington County Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS), Sons of American Legion Post 64, National Rifle Association (NRA), , Fort Harmar Rifle Club, Matamoras Historical Society (life member) and Doan Family Association (life member).

He was preceded in death by his father, John "Jack" Hill; uncles, Robert Doan (Mary) and James F. Doan; and cousin, James B. Doan.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Number of people in the funeral home at one time will be limited. Private services will be held with full military honors. Burial of ashes will take place at a later time in Barlow Central Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Jason Brooks Harper was born September 11, 1981, in Marietta Ohio to Catherine J. (Finkel) Harper and Michael B. Harper.
He was so much more than his addiction and he fought 23 years with a 10 year reprieve to conquer it.
He was an altar server, boy scout, academic award winner and Marine. Most of all he was a son, brother, husband, daddy, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin, an animal lover and friend and he will be missed forever and we are changed forever.
His smile, laugh, long talks on history and politics and his very essence will never fade from the memories of those who love him.
So many stories and things he was proud of fill our hearts. He was proud of his stint in the Marines and the summer he worked for the city of Marietta. The street crew gave him a lime green shirt and he alternated between that one and the Marine shirt his little boy gave him for Father’s Day during the 10 years we enjoyed with him.
He took care of his Grandmother with Alzheimer’s, carrying her, cleaning her and this tenderness will be remembered, too.
Jason is survived by wife Teara, son Aamon, Austin and Aaron, his Mom and Dad; Cathy and Michael, sister Kaelly Erb (Joel) nephews Griffin and Elijah, niece Ruby; brother Matthew (Rylee) nieces Kolbie and Morrisyn; brother Stephen (Anna Claire Myers), maternal grandmother Joanne Finkel, uncles Tim Finkel (Dawn Hewitt) his sons Nick (Dani)( Veronica,) Ben; Kelly Finkel; Kevin Finkel; Chris Harper (Madison, Mason), Aunt Vicki (Harper) Bober (Mark), mother-in-law Brenda Eddy, numerous great aunts and uncle, cousins, friends.

Obituary Preview: Charlene Elizabeth Combs, 64, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021. She had been in and out of the hospital since November, her kidney function had declined. She had lived over 19 years since having her pancreas-kidney transplant.
Charlene was strong, full of laughs, independent and sometimes stubborn. She could make you laugh, and she baked delicious cookies. She lived in Marietta after graduating from Caldwell High school in 74’. She worked as a beautician a majority of her life and retired from Sally’s Beauty Supply in 2018.
Although she never married, she was surrounded by family and friends who loved her dearly. Charlene is joining her parents, Rudy and Faye Combs as well as sisters Gladys Silvus and Debbie Spence in the afterlife. She is at peace and now looks over family still living, which include, her eldest sister, Ruth Silvus, several nieces, nephews, beloved friends and the cat she never wanted, but loved dearly, Penny.
There will be no services, as Charlene has requested a direct cremation. If those who knew and loved her would like to honor her memory, cards and donations for medical expenses may be sent to her niece, Sarah Spence; 31 University Estate Blvd., Apt 306, Athens, Ohio 45701.

Obituary Preview: Lewis Randall Hunter, 94, World War II combat veteran and recipient of two bronze star medals, died Thursday, January 28, 2021 at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Marietta, born to Clarence Bennett and Margaret Mae Guckert Hunter in 1926.
Randall was awarded the Legion of Honor medal by the president of the French Republic, in recognition of his heroic action in The Battle of the Colmar Pocket in the Alsace Lorraine region of France.
He retired from Elkem Metals in 1986, where he worked as a machinist. Randall was a member of the VFW, DAV and American Legion in Marietta. He loved music and had a beautiful singing voice, participating in various local choral groups. He taught himself to play piano when he was in his seventies.
On Christmas Eve, 1948, he married Mildred Irene Lancaster, who preceded him in death in 1998. Also preceding him in death were five brothers and six sisters.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Hunter and Janelle Deem (Rich); four grandchildren, Bradley Lambert, Curtis Buchanan, Andrew Lambert and Courtney Massaro; former wife, Corlis Casto Hunter; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Marietta Noon Lions Club, MOV Chamber and the Moose in Parkersburg. Bill loved golfing and going on walks. He enjoyed his vacation with family to Myrtle Beach. Bill enjoyed traveling and was proud to say he has been to all 50 states. He was a very involved father and grandfather, and loved his family unconditionally.
He is survived by his significant other, Ann West; two children, Tamara Mitchell (Scott) and William F. Cusack, III (Kate); five grandchildren, Emily, Bryan, Cora, Grace and Jake; sister Ann Carruthers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey Cusack; and sister, Julia Levy.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, Ohio. Private memorial services will held as well.
