Obituary Preview: Marvin Leon Holman, age 81, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Northern Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, Texas.
Per his wishes, his body will be cremated.  A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Dusty Lovell officiating.
Military services will be held l:00 P.M., Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas with the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Entombment in columbarium will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. Marvin was born on March 28,1941 in Colorado City, Texas to W.W. and Wilda Loraine (Rogers) Holman.  He married the love of his life, Fonda Nelms on August 7, 1963. Prior to settling in Sweetwater, he and Fonda lived in several small Texas towns, moving each time only for a better employment opportunity. Once landing in Sweetwater, he worked in a few different places such as Pace Packing Company and The Village Market, both as a butcher, always moving up and working aside and supervising great people that he always considered his friends. He eventually landed at Lone Star Industries where he stayed for many years before retiring. He was a member of 4th and Elm Church of Christ and was also a U.S. Army veteran. Marvin was a loving husband and father, the best of the best. Everything he did, he did for his wife and his daughter, and would do anything for anyone else that might need his help.  The best husband, father, and friend…well, best man on the planet!
He is survived by his wife, Fonda Holman of Sweetwater, Texas, daughter, Heather Cox of Sweetwater, Texas, brother, Donald Holman and wife Mary Ann  of Big Spring, Texas, sister, Sue McGuire and husband Dwayne of Snyder, Texas, sister-in-law, Karen Holman, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.W. and Wilda Holman, one brother, Rob Holman and one sister, Karen Kay.

Margie Marie Cornoyer Smith - March 01, 1930 - April 16, 2022

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M..
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Roscoe First Baptist Church with Rev. David Draper officiating.  Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Margie was born on March 1, 1930 to James Loyd Hardy and Willie Blanche (Harper) Hardy in Sweetwater, Texas.  She attended Sweetwater schools and graduated in 1947 from Newman High School. She was in the marching band, high school orchestra and served as president of the Music Appreciation Club.  She attended Sul Ross Teachers College, Alpine, Texas in 1947 and 1948.  Returning to Sweetwater, she worked for Lone Star Gas Company, from 1948 to 1960.  In 1964, she became co-owner of Cornoyer's Builder and Supplies Store until 1976.   In Jan. 1977 she worked for Riggs and Wootan, CPA's, retiring in 1992.  During this time, she received her Associate Degree from Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas in May 1977 in Mid-Management.
Margie married Vincent L. Cornoyer on May 21, 1950 and they were the parents of Paula M. Cornoyer, J. Louis Cornoyer and Barbara L. Cornoyer.  Vince passed away in 1987.  On March 7, 1992, she married a long-time friend, Jerry B. Smith.
Margie was a member of First Baptist Church as a child until she was instrumental in helping to organize and was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in 1957 where she was a Charter member 35 years.  Margie and Jerry then attended First Baptist Sweetwater and later joined Roscoe Baptist Church.
Margie loved club work, she was a former member of ABWA and the Woman’s Forum.  For many years, she served as President of Sweetwater Book Review Club and Athenaeum Study Club where she served in  several office positions.  She loved attending Bible Study Classes and church.  She was a prayer warrior for anyone who needed prayers whether she knew them or not.
Margie loved her children with a passion and attended plays, band concerts, football, baseball, and girls softball games wherever they were.  She doted on her grandsons and attended as many of their activities as she could.
She learned to cook at an early age and loved being in her kitchen and cooking for family and friends.  Margie and Jerry traveled extensively and have many great memories.   She is survived by her husband, Jerry B. Smith of Sweetwater, Texas, daughter, Paula Chisolm and husband Ron of Plano, Texas, son, Louis Cornoyer of Austin, Texas, and daughter, Barbara Davis and husband Roddy of N. Richland Hills, Texas, step-daughter, Sara J. Stagner of Denison, Texas and special friend Marchal Fulmer along with grandsons, Colin Chisolm, Riley Davis and wife Katie and Caleb Davis and wife Meghan, step grandsons,  Kelsey Liles, Larry Cornoyer, IV, and Cody Cornoyer, great grandchildren, Jacob Chisolm, Everleigh Davis and Baby Jonah Davis due in June.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Loyd and Willie Blanche Hardy and first husband, Vince Cornoyer.

Noah was born on January 18, 1982 in Sweetwater, Texas to Lowell Wray and Carol (Beck) Abeita.  He  attended Trinity Baptist Church.  He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from McMurray University in Abilene, Texas.  He worked for Aaron's for many years.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Abeita of Roscoe, Texas, sister, Tera Trotter and husband Michael of Roscoe, Texas, several  nieces and nephews, Thea Abeita, Iven Abeita, Alec Trotter, Krysten Staggs and Kenzi Trotter, grandmother, Charlene Wrenn, and numerous cousins & friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Wray Snowden Abeita, and brother, Brandon Heath Abeita.

Gloria was born on March 31, 1934 in Sweetwater, Texas to Ramon and Josephina (Villa) Ortega.  She married Sesario Acuña on Apil 20, 1955 in Sweetwater, Texas.   She worked as a cafetaria manager for S.I.S.D. for many years before retiring.  She was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish and Las Guadalupanas.
She is survived by her husband, Si Acuña of Sweetwater, Texas, daughters, Sue Ann Ramos and husband Alfonso of the Woodlands, Mary Elizondo and husband Jesus of Abilene, Texas, and Nancy Lopez and husband Clemente of Sweetwater, Texas, grandchildren, Magann Acuña, Abby Ramos Stanutz (Ben), Brian Ramos (Ashley), Joshua Carter, Ashley Hogan (Jeremy), Cary Ramos, Benjamin Lopez and Adrian Lopez (Ali Juarez), great grandchildren, Angel, Lexie, David, and Timothy Tijerina, Diego Stanutz, Bodhi Ramos, Harrison Carter, Piper Hogan, and Knox Hogan, and great great grandchild, Lincoln Steffey, sister, Julie Morales, and brothers,  Phil Ortega, Tomas Ortega, Raymond Ortega, Ventura Ortega and Joe Ortega.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Josephina Ortega, brother, Alex Ortega, and two sisters, Frances Solano, and Inez Camancho.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 30. 2022 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas with Rev. Keith Hills officiating.  Burial will follow with the U.S. Naval Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Lyman Ward (Tex) Leach, Jr. was born on September 18, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas to Lyman Leach, Sr. and Minnie (Martinez) Leach.  He married Marie Backhaus Mitchell on November 18, l997 in Sweetwater, Texas.  He worked  as an airline mechanic for Eastern Airlines for many years before retiring.  He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Cape Esperance, an escort carrier.  Also he received the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and Good Conduct Medal.  He served four years total, including one year in Korea.  Tex was a longtime loyal  member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sweetwater.  He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and V.F.W..  Tex  never met a stranger.  He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say to everyone.  He will truly be missed.
He is survived by son, Larry Jon Leach of Seattle, Washington, daughters, Julie Ann Robertson of Federal Way, Washington, and Lori Lynn Redfield of Barnston, Nebraska, step-son, Bryan Mitchell of Decatur, Texas, step-daughter, Janet Fagan of Midland, Texas,  four grandsons, numerous great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, brothers, David Leach of Seattle, Washington, and Donald Leach of Eastland, Texas, sister-in-law, Christina Leach of Houston, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew, Pat Matull and Joe Martinez, both of San Antonio, Texas and special friend, Jimmie Tidwell of Colorado City, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman Leach, Sr. and Minnie Leach, step-mother, Estelle Ann Leach, wife, Marie Leach, son, Randal Mark Leach,  sister, Laura Martinez and  three brothers, Kenneth Charles Leach, Raymond Leach and Harold Leach.  Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mary Ella was born on September 1, 1934 in Paris, Texas to James Ennis and Charlene (Wilson) Trantham.  She was a 1952 Graduate of Newman High School.   She married the love of her life, Odell Wallace Gillilan on December 21, 1951 in Colorado City, Texas.   She worked for Walls Industries and Quick Wash Laundry for many years before retiring at the age of 80 years old.  She was a longtime member of Broadway Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane Turnbow of Houston, Texas, Rose Mary Rentfro of Poolville, Texas, and Nancy Clift of Sweetwater, Texas, one son, Danny Gillilan of Sweetwater, Texas, four grandchildren, Candy Prickett, Denece Gilbert, Corey Turnbow, and Ashley Holden, and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James & Charlene Trantham, husband, Odell Wallace Gillilan, sister, Martha Collett, two brothers, James Trantham and Carl Trantham, and sons-in-law, Ronnie Turnbow, Jerry Clift, and Richard Rentfro.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen Presley and wife Melisa of Sweetwater, Texas and Brandon Presley of Sweetwater, Texas, and two daughters, Kristi Eivens and husband James of Sweetwater and Brittany Presley and Kassie Lopez of Sweetwater, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Lee Cochran and sister, Patricia Faye.

Becky Blisard - May 26, 1956 - February 20, 2022

Obituary Preview: Becky Cline Blisard would like to let you know that her work here is done.  She received a call, a sort of an offer you can't refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning.  This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time.  Job security is exactly 110 percent.  Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening, and art projects to her hearts content.  Music, laughter and love are guaranteed.  Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce.  She left detailed instructions for her children to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed.
Becky Blisard, age 65, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2022.  She was born on May 26, 1956 in Hobbs, New Mexico.  Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Connie Green, two sisters, Rhonda Jan Cline and Belinda Joy Loveall, brother, Zackery Loyd Green, one nephew, Christopher Green and one niece, Caitlin Joy Green.
Becky is survived by a daughter, Jeri Jetonne Artal and husband Scott of San Angelo, Texas, a son, Scott David Norwood and wife Lori of Arkadelphia, Arkansas.  She is also survived by her brothers, Jerry Cline and wife Beatriz of Snyder, Texas, Russell Don Loveall and wife Edie of Snyder, Texas, and Ethan Zane Green and wife Aleya of Snyder, Texas, and a sister, Karen Sharrock and husband Fred of Sweetwater, Texas.
Becky was blessed with two grandsons, Chaz and Logan, three granddaughters, Micha, Ashley and Brynlee, and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, and aunts and uncles.  Becky was known by many who called her "Momma B".  She also raised many children who were not blood relatives.
Graveside services for Becky will be held Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Palava Cemetery, Palava, Texas under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home in Sweetwater, Texas.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Good Life Senior Living in Snyder, Texas or to the Palava Cemetery, Palava, Texas.

She worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator and supervisor for many years before retiring.  She was a Baptist.  She was a member of Southwestern Bell Pioneers.
She is survived by sons, George Earl Hughes and wife Linda of Sweetwater, Texas, Benjamin Thompson and wife Debra of Potosi, Texas, and Richard Gillette and wife Sandi of Midland, Texas, five grandchildren, George Hughes, Cadi Gillette, Cari Gillette, Jason Thompson and Brandi Thompson, numerous great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Elvie Jackson, husband, Thomas Gillette, two sisters, Bobbie Harris and Sylvia Russell, and one brother, Jack Jackson.

Emilia was the most loving, caring, and strong mother and wife.  No matter the situation, family was always first in her mind.  No matter how she felt, she was always ready to smile, talk, and make everyone's day better.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Trevino, Sr.  of Sweetwater, Texas, four sons, Richard Trevino, Jr. and Ashley Gossett,  Matthew Trevino and Gabrielle Rendon,  Jacob Trevino, and Lucas Trevino, all of Sweetwater, Texas, five grandchildren, Natiley Gossett, Richard Trevino, III, Brandon Trevino, Roman Rendon, and Jayven Trevino,  parents, Eusebio Medellin, Sr. and Belen Medellin,  sisters, San Juana Nunez, and Maria Neri and husband Art, brothers, Amado Medellin and wife Peggy, Eusebio Medellin, Jr. and wife Juanita, and Raymond Medellin and wife Joni, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Tommy and Mary Wolford of Eastland, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, brother-in-law, Julian Nunez and sister-in-law, Krysti Medellin.

Obituary Preview: Gloria Jeannette Stephenson (Scott)  Mesquite - December 3, 1952 - February 8, 2022   Gloria was born on December 3, 1952, in Sweetwater, Texas, the third of six children born to JW and Alice Scott.   She spent much of her younger years taking dance lessons and performing at local events and was a competitive athlete in many sports including volleyball, golf, swimming, tennis and cheerleading.  She also participated in Girl Scouts for several years.  Much family time was spent packed in the car with her parents, brothers, and sister, taking road trips across the US or swimming with friends and family at the Sweetwater Country Club.  Gloria was also a DJ for KXOX Radio in Sweetwater, where her love for music shined.  Gloria is fondly remembered by her childhood friends as kind, funny, beautiful and a quiet leader.   She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1971 and went on to attend college at both Texas Tech University and East Texas State University, where she received her degree in Education.  She was a Bonham ISD English teacher and coach for many years, the latter of which she enjoyed the most.   Gloria loved listening to music, dancing, reading, writing, spending time by the water and taking long walks.  She had a big heart for the many pets she owned over her lifetime, both cats and dogs.  Gloria had a wonderful sense of humor and with that, made many friendships right up until her passing.  She was preceded in death by her parents, James Whitfield (JW) and Alice Scott, three brothers, Greg Scott, Mark Scott, and Paul Scott, a nephew, Dustin Rains, great nephew, Enoch Pope, and great niece, Mary Alice Pope.   Gloria is survived by her daughter, Emily (Raul) Flores of Richardson.  Grandchildren include Thomas Raul Flores and Isabella Rosalie Flores, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.   She is also survived by her brother,  Bruce (Janet) Scott of Lockhart, and sister,  Patricia (Ronnie) Rains of Canton, and one uncle, Max Scott of Baton Rouge, LA.   Arrangements by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home are being made to host a memorial service for Gloria in the coming summer.

Ignacio was born in Clay Texas to Susano and Simona Castillo.  His family moved several times before finally settling in Sweetwater in 1954.   Services were held on Thursday January 13, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Dan Boren officiating.  A private burial was held at Sweetwater Cemetery.  Arrangements were under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Ignacio leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Pauline and their 5 children who consider him their hero.  Edith Gravley and husband of San Angelo, Sam Castillo (Delma) of New Braunfels, Helene Davis (Michael) of Sachse, Sandra Daneri (Conrad) of Harvest, Alabama and Roberto Castillo (Leslie) of Burleson.   He was and will always be “Poppy” to 13 grandchildren Tyler Gravley, Lucas Gravley, Justis, Gravley, Gerald Castillo, Samantha Williams, Nic Castillo, James Davis, Melissa Davis, Kathryn Davis, Erik Daneri, Rachel Daneri, Cade Castillo and Erin Castillo along with 5 great grandchildren, McKinzie Castillo, Madison Castillo, Wyatt Gravley, Ryker Gravley and Juliet Williams.   Ignacio was the oldest brother, protector, and defender of Agapita Cerda, Celestino, Pedro, Domingo, Benjamin, Susana Gutierrez, Aurora Castillo, Pablo, Rosa Whitley, Antonio and Pablo Castillo.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Emilio, Irene, Pablo, Juan, Cevero, Guadalupe and Maria Ramon.     Ignacio was a servant of God; he was an Elder at Lamar Street Church of Christ and most recently served as a member of the Church of Christ in Roscoe, Texas and the Spanish Church of Christ in Sweetwater.    He was a wise man who studied the Word of God daily, and a great example of love and forgiveness.  “Don’t ever leave God” is a statement he made several times the last few days of his life. Ultimately his greatest desire was for the family to know and to love God. He has finished the race.    More than anything in the world, Ignacio loved his family, he was happiest when he was worshiping, visiting, vacationing or celebrating accomplishments with them.  He was a talented carpenter, mechanic, gardener and Mr. Fix It.   He could fix just about anything that broke.   He attended Newman High School, and maintained a great desire to learn, he especially enjoyed studying Native American history and world wars.  He was an avid fan of the Sweetwater Mustang football team. Ignacio had a gift and a talent of putting everyone he met at ease and making them smile. He made the world a better place.   Pallbearers were his grandsons, Lucas A. Gravley, Justis D. He married Margaret Gomez on March 16, 1960 in Sweetwater, Texas.   He was a lifelong resident of Sweetwater, Texas.  He was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish where he served as an usher and also was a member of the Guadalupanas.  He was a member of Sweetwater Jaycees for over sixty-one years.   Louis worked for Pace Packing and then U.S. Gypsum for many years before retiring.  He also worked as an upholsterer.  He then started working for NAPA.  He was a loyal Sweetwater Mustang football fan and also worked the play off football games for the Chamber of Commerce.  Louis was a hard worker and never met a stranger.   His family was the joy of his life.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Torres of Sweetwater, Texas, five children, Gloria Torres of Sweetwater, Texas, Kathy Nusbaum and husband Larry of Lubbock, Texas, Ronnie Torres and wife Lisa of Sweetwater, Texas, Larry Torres of Sherman, Texas, and Michael Torres of Los Angeles, California, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters, Aurora Ramirez, and Micaela Palacios, and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
