Roger Ray Luna - September 29, 1981 - November 02, 2023

Departed: 11/02/2023 (Vancouver)
Obituary Preview: Roger Ray Luna September 29, 1981, to November 2, 2023 Roger Ray Luna sadly passed away November 2, 2023, at the age of 42 in Peace Health Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, WA. Roger was born September 29, 1981, in Newberg Oregon, to parents
Jose G. Luna, and WanEllin S. Trull (nee Friend). Roger spent his childhood in McMinnville, Oregon where he continued to live as an adult until three years before his death. The elder brother of two boys, Roger, did his best to equally teach his brother to
engage in shenanigans, and keep him out of trouble. Until his illness in 2016, Roger engaged in activities such as camping and fishing. Ironically, He loved to fish and go crabbing but you would never catch him eating them, especially the crabs; he was certain
they were the spiders of the sea. Roger was an avid collector of many things; from bottles of wine to more tools than any human could possibly need. If anyone had wine from the Willamette Valley before 2017, there’s a good chance he helped to bottle it, as vineyard hand was his trade for quite a few years. He was a purveyor of random
items. If you ever needed something, you could be certain there was Roger would have it. If it was a wild true story you wanted to hear, or something that strutted the line of the “Big Fish” tale,
Roger was your guy. For those who knew and loved him, this was one of his greatest attributes. We will think of him every time we open a bottle of wine. We will miss him every time we hear a fellow
spinning a tale. Roger was loved beyond measure and will be truly missed. He is survived by his mother, WanEllin Trull of Washougal, Washington, his brother (or as Roger would say Brogurt) Juan Luna and his sister-in-law Cassie Luna both of Copperas Cove, Texas, his nephews Lucas, Dominic, and Evan all of Texas, his niece Kalina of Vancouver, Washington, and his long-time best friend Dena Geiger of McMinnville, Oregon. Roger is preceded in death by his father Jose Luna, his stepfather Wayne Trull, his grandparents John and Wanda Friend, here they were sure to have been his
welcoming party in the great beyond.

Gary Martin Thomas - August 22, 1934 - September 18, 2023

Departed: 09/18/2023 (Vancouver)
Obituary Preview: Gary M. Thomas: In Memoriam Gary M. Thomas, storyteller, educator, and creator, died on September 18, 2023, leaving a legacy that touched the lives of many. His journey, filled with diverse professional roles,
reflected his insatiable curiosity, boundless intellect, and profound commitment to service. Born in Long Beach, CA, Thomas embarked on a lifelong journey of artistic expression, knowledge, and compassion. His professional Ife was a tapestry woven with various roles, each
reflecting his boundless passion and unwavering commitment to positively impacting the world. Gary began his journey as an animator and filmmaker, where his creative skills brought the characters of Gumby and Davey & Goliath to life on the screen. His short film, Tommy Gunn, won top honors at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and a film scholarship from Kodak helped fund
his college education. His path led him to become a performer, captivating audiences with his comedic and spot-on impersonations, including a featured performance on the Ed Sullivan Show. His storytelling work took a turn when Gary served as the editor of a Naval newspaper on Midway Island, where he used his writing skills to inform and connect the naval community—and where he
somehow found the time to DJ a weekly radio show. Following his time in the Navy, Gary's love for storytelling and a deep desire to empower others led him to become a teacher, nurturing the minds of countless students. His impact extended beyond the classroom, instilling in his pupils a love for learning and an appreciation for life's
many lessons. After teaching in Los Angeles and a remote Alaskan village, Gary found a profound purpose in guiding others on their spiritual journeys as a minister, leading congregations for the next two decades. After retiring from the church, he became a prison chaplain, where his wisdom and compassion provided solace during times of need and support to individuals seeking
redemption and transformation. While he held many professional titles, Gary’s favorite role was being a father. He loved his children and taught them to ask questions, to practice gratitude, and the importance of imagination. He helped quiz them for spelling bees, assisted in building science fair exhibits, and made clothes for their paper dolls. Gary was always there for them, whether cheering them on
at track meets, helping them prepare for job interviews, or officiating at their weddings. He had a life-long affair with Orange-Cream Dilly Bars, homemade molasses cookies, John Wayne westerns, golf, and the English language. He excelled at puns, original stories, and imaginary play with his grandkids—leading safaris in the living room, playing customer at highly
fancy restaurants in the den, and giving outlandish and highly comedic puppet shows. Gary will be remembered for his kindness and creativity and how he would pepper his sermons
with celebrity impressions to contemporize biblical stories. Jimmy Stewart as Moses? Check.
Sylvester Stallone as Goliath? Uh-huh. Sammy Davis as Samson? You better believe it.
His was a life well spent. But if there was anything—other than deep faith—that defined Gary, it was his love story with Carol, his spirited bride of 65 years, who survives him and who, in his words, "Gave spice to the game." Gary is also survived by son Martin Thomas; daughters Pamela Thomas, Marilee (Thomas) Murdock, Lindsay (Thomas) Lucas; brother Greg Thomas; and grandchildren Christopher,
Chelsea, Audra, Emerson, Elliot, Jackson, Hudson, and Harrison. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin G. and Irene (Galloway) Thomas; brother Gayle
Thomas; and daughter Lori Thomas. A celebration of his life will be held on January 6, 2024, at Gateway Community Church,
Washougal, Washington. Gary's life is a reminder that a well-lived life is defined not only by titles or achievements but
also by the enduring love and positive impact one leaves on others. May his legacy continue to inspire us all.

Lela Elizabeth Wheeler - August 06, 1935 - May 27, 2023

Departed: 05/27/2023 (Vancouver)
Obituary Preview: Lela Elizabeth “Beth” Wheeler August 6, 1935 – May 27, 2023 Beth was born Lela Elizabeth Henley August 6, 1935 in the little town of Mansfield, Arkansas to James Lee “Jim” Henley and Amanda Lounetta “Lou” Henley. She was soon joined by a younger sister, Nylene, July 6, 1938, and a little brother, Hurley Lee, November 4 th 1942. Being the oldest, she became an instant leader and had very little trouble bossing the younger two around. Hard times and depression in Arkansas brought many of the Henley family members to the small desert town of Las Vegas, Nevada where Beth’s dad, Jim, found work in the
limestone and sandstone pits out by Sloane and Jean Nevada. As a young girl, Beth and her family spent part of the time on the family farm in Arkansas and part of the time in the Las Vegas desert, living like nomads in tents in the early days. The family traveled back and forth between Las Vegas and the Mansfield family farm until most of the family members had
moved to Las Vegas. Beth had a great love for music and began playing the piano for church before she could even read music. During high school Beth was a member of the Las Vegas High School band and worked at the Las Vegas Review Journal after school setting type for a reporter. She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1953. She attended Pasadena Nazarene College, for a short time, but did not graduate. She came home to Las Vegas and
began working at City Hall and for a local back. In January of 1956, Lela Elizabeth “Beth” Henley married Edwin Wallace “Bud” Wheeler at the Church of the Nazarene on 14 th and Ogden in Las Vegas where they had met. They were soon joined by Edwin Wallace Wheeler Jr. October 7 th , 1956, followed by Katherine Nylene Wheeler in November 1957; Carol Elizabeth Wheeler arrived in December 1958, and James
Allen Wheeler brought up the rear in December of 1960. Carrying the legacy of faith planted in them from their own parents, Bud and Beth Wheeler established a home where God came first, where love and forgiveness thrived, and where all were welcome. As Bud built up Desert TV and Appliance, Beth built a home filled with music, laughter, order, honesty,
discipline, encouragement, security, friendship, trust, and love. She was an amazing cook, a talented musician, an excellent seamstress, an incredible hostess, and a loyal, kind, and compassionate friend. She cooked for summer youth camps and church banquets, led Bible studies, taught Sunday school classes, was the church pianist, led the teen group, directed the choir, took meals to sick or grieving families, invited strangers into her home and made them friends, visited elderly folks, and sang and played the piano at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. She emulated these gifts of hospitality, music, and service on a daily
basis and passed them on to her children and grandchildren. Beth led a life of service and sacrifice her whole life teaching her children to love Jesus and love others. She managed her time well, so that she always had the time to help a friend, or a stranger, in need. She was never one to shrink away from the
hard stuff. Bud and Beth were married for almost 62 years, and were wonderful examples of love, commitment, service, loyalty, and faith. Beth was strong and stubborn, determined and fierce. She had a great love for God, her family, her church, her music, her friends, and a strong sense of duty to all. She fought the good fight and finished the race. Beth passed quietly into Heaven late in the evening Saturday, May 27 th , 2023. She no longer sees “a poor reflection as in a mirror,” but can now
see Jesus face to face. She was indeed a Proverbs 31 woman. She has earned her reward, and we can say with peace and certainty that she is where she has always lived her life to be,
with Jesus. Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Wallace “Bud” Wheeler, her parents, Jim and Lounetta Henley, her brother, Hurley, and his wife Donna, her brothers-in-law, “Bink” Binkley, and Frank MacDonald. She is survived by her sister, Nylene Binkley/MacDonald, her children, Ed (Charla) Wheeler, Kathy (Gene) Iwami, Carol Wheeler, and James (June) Wheeler, her grandchildren, Chaconne (David) Blastock, Eddie (Robin) Wheeler, Katrina Wheeler, Andrew (Ali) Wheeler, and Jordan (Trina) Iwami. She is also survived by her 10 delightful great- grandchildren, Macy, Judah, Ellie, Asher, Naomi, Mercy, Espyn,
Ean, Audrienne, and Isaac (baby Eden is coming soon). Services will be held July 22 nd , 2023 in Ontario, OR at Ontario Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 AM. Condolences may be posted to this website. Donations may be made in Beth’s honor to Love Inc., P.O. Box 87, Ontario, OR 97914, or Extra Mile Student Center, P.O. Box 652, Grandview, WA 98930
