He began working for his uncles at 11 years old at their horse barns, but it didn't take too many years for him to convince his uncles that he could ride. He started exercising the thoroughbreds, and eventually became an excellent rider, and worked for various trainers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, Iowa, Arkansas, and finally in Phoenix, Arizona.
Earl Gideon was baptized at the age of 11. He went to church most of his life, until he got older and got in with the wrong crowd. God kept shaking him and drawing him, and in December, he came back to the Lord, and attended White Eagle Tabernacle with his parents until he went to Arizona to work for Jack McCartney. Even though he still struggled with many temptations, he had a desire to do the right things, and choose the right path. God knew his heart and released him from his struggle.
He is survived by many friends and loved ones. These include his parents, Steve and Laura Martin, his two brothers, Marrion and JB, and three sisters, Dinah, Taletha, and Atarah, of Hot Springs; his grandfather, Earl Martin, of Hot Springs, grandparents John and Gayle Armstrong, of Hardy, Arkansas; aunts and uncles and cousins, and many, many friends in many places.

Jack Ryan McClaran - September 28, 2001 - April 06, 2023

Departed: 04/06/2023 (Hot Springs)
Obituary Preview: Jack Ryan McClaran was born on Thursday, September 28, 2001. He was welcomed into Heaven on Thursday, April 6, 2023.
Jack was greeted ecstatically by his Mimi (Luhenri Keener), and his Pops (Robert Lane McClaran), his best dog Charlie, and his great grandparents; Mama D and Papa D (Edna Mae and J. Earl Duncan), Gramma Max and Grandpa Richard (Maxine and Richard Jones), and finally he got to meet his Boppa (Louis Esposito).
Those left to celebrate his life are; his mother, Dana Lea Keener, his sister, Abigail J. McClaran; the love of his life, Makayla Buck; his father and bonus mother, Brian and Kendra McClaran; his Pappa and bonus grandmother, Bobby Joe and Corita Keener; and his grandmother and bonus grandfather, Renee and Lucian King; his aunts and uncles; Diana and Gregg Hobby; Cindy and Rick Marchbanks; and David McClaran. A host of cousins, family and friends are also included in celebrating his life.
It is very difficult to describe the life of someone whose light would shine as brightly as Jack's. Everywhere he went he brought his brand of sometimes irreverent, usually dark, yet always hilarious sense of humor. He always left either smiling or baffled faces in his wake. He was always quick to help anyone around him who needed him. Sometimes he was quick to help even when it wasn't needed.
Jack was many things. He was an avid collector of anything related to Star Wars, Scooby Doo, an interest he shared with his mother, and other memorabilia. He turned his interests into a tiny business that he ran out of his bedroom. He was kind, compassionate, and fair. He always defended the underdog. Perhaps due to those attributes, he wanted to be a police officer. He always said he wanted to prove to the world that there are still excellent police officers in the world. He wanted to be that excellent officer.
Jack was smart. His quick wit and intelligent, shocking quips will be greatly missed. He had a great love for his boys- the "J Crew," Jackson Werner and Jet Turner. But nothing matched his love and adoration for Makayla Buck. The pair were in the process of planning their bright future together.
Jack has many friends but the group he spent most of his time with was his Magic Springs family. Jack was employed with the park for five seasons. There he "ran the front gate and guest services like a boss," according to him. He loved that job as it allowed him to share his wit with guests from all over whether they wanted it or not.
Jack's life here was brought to a screeching halt much too soon. To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement. Yet the years he was here were full of love and laughter. And for him, that is what life was all about.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 12, from 5-8 p.m. at Caruth-Hale Life Celebration Center, 2529 Airport Road, in Hot Springs. The celebration of his life will be Thursday, April 13, at 2 p.m.

Woodrow Dean Jackson - September 28, 1966 - January 13, 2023

Departed: 01/13/2023 (Hot Springs)
Obituary Preview: The love of our lives, Woodrow “Dean” Jackson, 56, of Hot Springs, AR passed away suddenly on January 13, 2023 of a heart attack. He was a bigger than life personality who didn’t “do anything small” and never met a stranger. He was so passionate about everyone and everything in his life, giving 100% and expecting everyone else to do the same. He had the brightest smile and wanted to include everyone he met as family. If you were blessed enough to know him well, you’d know he’d literally give you the shirt off his back if you wanted or needed it, always a sleeveless one, and most likely a business shirt in Dean Jackson Plumbing blue. Dean wasn’t afraid to tell anyone that he loved them, and he genuinely did. Dean’s life philosophy was “Right is right.” When he saw an injustice, he would be the first to try to “make it right”, even if he was a little too passionate about it sometimes. He was the best husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend anyone could imagine. All who knew him attest to him being a great man with a big, generous heart.
He left to mourn his passing his first crush and soulmate of 38 years, Shelley, his adored girls, Brittany, Bethany, and Brianna, bonus daughters Crystal Litton, Camila Eda de Andrade, and Latisha Pilgrim, and his precious grandchildren Kali Beth Conrad, Theodore Jackson, and Remington and Moses Thornton, as well as a multitude of family and friends. His beloved siblings, sister Revia (Stan) Simon and their children David (Shayla) Hudspeth, Aquia (Johnny) Vasseau, Jason Fultz, and Trevor and Alex Simon, brother George Walston, and his children Jeffery (Sarah) Lynch, and Mary Rachel, Annelise, and Hank Walston, sister Amy Garrett (Gary) and their children Garett and Autumn, brother Bradley Jackson, and his late brother James’ daughter Precious Hope (Bobby) Riley will miss him greatly. Shelley’s mom Marty Warwick and sister Tiffany (Randall) Kish and their children Brandi and Randall Jr. will continue to be a source of love and support for the family. He had a host of great nieces and nephews whom he also treasured as well as his bonus brothers and sisters Joseph Killian (Leona), Jacob Killian (Nicole), Farrah Alvarado (Carlos), Shelly Lira (Manuel). And the greatest friends a man could ask for.
He joined in heaven his father Woody Jackson, mother Wilma Killian, bonus father Rick Killian, brother James Walston Jr. stepdad James Walston Sr., brother-in-law David Hudspeth and fathers-in-law Danny Denton and James Warwick. Dean sought after Jesus and it was his wish for everyone to join him in heaven. He was active in church fellowships, youth groups, and mission trips. Music and singing were how he worshipped God best.
Dean graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1985 where he gave 100% on the football field to his coaches and teammates. Dean loved sports and played them all. He was a linebacker, number 56 for the Hot Springs Trojans where he made lifetime friends. Right out of high school Dean worked with Waldo Sheets at Sheets Plumbing, who changed his life and modeled how to run his own business. Dean Jackson Plumbing was created and loved by Dean. He taught many the value of hard work and his motto “Gotta make it work”. Dean loved the business, and the people and awesome connections he made along the way.
In his adult years, he loved playing softball, sharing this passion with his dad, as well as their ability to become lifelong friends with their teammates, whom they loved dearly. They were often unbeatable, at least in spirit. He even tried golf, which didn’t go as well, but everyone had fun! Dean passed this passion and heart for the game to his precious daughters, grandkids, nephews, and nieces. He was so passionate about his kids’ games that many remember him often being “asked” to leave the premises at, least temporarily.
If you ever came to visit Dean you would see his passion for hunting on every wall, including seven “deer friends” in the living room at the moment. It was his “Dean” time where he worshipped God and His creation. Deer camp was his home away from home and he loved his deer camp buddies intensely.
Our celebration of Dean’s life with family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 2pm at the new Caruth-Hale Life Center 2529 Airport Rd, Hot Springs followed by a burial at Crestview Cemetery on 70E. Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2023 from 5-7pm.
Pallbearers are David Hudspeth, Johnny Vasseau, Jeffrey Lynch, Hank Walston, Kevin Vincent, and Larry Vincent. Honorary pallbearers are George Walston, Jerry Gibbs, Mike Dixon, Clett Thomas, Elmo Milller, Waldo Sheets, Shad Sheets, Gary Clarkson, and Ms. Terry Brock.
Please think of your favorite memory or story of Dean to share with the family, and to speak of him at the funeral if you wouldn’t mind sharing it with everyone who comes to honor his memory. It means so much to the family and has already helped us to start to heal.

Dennis Scott Gillenwater - December 13, 1956 - November 17, 2022

Departed: 11/17/2022 (Hot Springs)
Obituary Preview: Dennis Scott Gillenwater, 65, passed away late Thursday, November 17, 2022 at National Park Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Dennis, affectionately known by many as “Coach” was born December 13, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of William and Patsy (Green) Gillenwater.
Raised in Cleveland, Dennis graduated from Baptist Christian Upper School in 1975 and Cedarville College in 1979. Tired of shoveling snow Dennis took his classic Camaro south to Forrest City, Arkansas. There he was a teacher, coach, and later principal at Calvary Christian School where he met and then married Alva Mae Pounders. Together they had two children, Tricia (Chris) Steed and Donald “Scott” (Veronica) Gillenwater.
Dennis continued his studies at Arkansas State University where he received his Masters of Business Administration. Dennis remained loyal to his roots in his support of the Cleveland Indians, Browns, Cavaliers, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Regardless of their poor performances Dennis never lost faith in his teams or his enthusiasm for the game. More importantly than his passion for sports and classic cars, which he could readily identify from age two, Dennis loved connecting with people and sharing his love for Christ. Following the passing of his wife Alva from breast cancer in 1991, Dennis and his children remained in Arkansas until 1999.
After twenty plus years of humidity and mosquitoes, snow no longer seemed a punishment. Returning to the north with his children, Erie, Pennsylvania became their new home where Dennis served as an administrator and teacher at Bethel Christian School. He once again enjoyed the beauty of all four seasons, especially summers on the lake with his parents, sister, nieces and nephews.
Dennis remained single for 18 years so he could fully devote himself to raising his two children. In 2009 he received a coupon for EHarmony where he connected with the second love of his life, Chris. This union brought more children into Dennis’ life, Katie Lawrence, Courtney (Rusty) Hunter, Matthew Lawrence, Jason Walters and Quincy (Kristal) Lawrence. They were married for a year and eight months before he had a massive heart attack that left him with a traumatic brain injury. For the next eleven and a half years they added many grandchildren to their family. His grandkids Taylor, Riley, Laney, Canaan, Asa, Gracey, Brynley, Marlee, Emma, Quinn, Della, Alva, Bentley, and baby Gillenwater (who he was ready to meet in January) were his pride and joy.
He continued to travel and lead a very full life in spite of the struggles with his health. He was the definition of a good man and a powerful example of a Godly husband, father and Papa. He wore many hats during his life and was known by many different names: Husband- “Babe”, Father- “Dad”, Grandfather- “Papa”, favorite son- “Chief”, Brother- “Denny”, “Uncle Dennis”, “Coach”, teacher and friend.
If there is one thing Dennis would want you to know it is that he is in Heaven with his best friend, Jesus. If there is one thing we would want you to know it is that Dennis was loved and adored. We will miss him until the day we join him in Heaven.
Please join us for a celebration of Dennis’ life at Caruth-Hale Life Celebration Center on Airport Rd., at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 on Monday, November 21, 2022.
Pallbearers will be Kyler Davidson, Keaton Davidson, Tanner Winfree, Johnny Fox, Ean Fox, Marcus Southerland, Canaan Hunter, Asa Wilks and Bentley Walters.
