She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar N. "Jr." Glenn; and son-in-law, Dan Metcalf. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Bessemer City. Eva enjoyed reading and had many books. She also never met a stranger and would talk to anybody and everybody. Survivors include her son, the Rev. Jeff Glenn and wife Kim of Ansonville; daughter, Ms. Dale Glenn of Bessemer City; sister, Betty Hullender; grandchildren: Kristin Glenn Faulkner and husband Jason, Traci Flowers Tedder and husband Jonathan, Carey Glenn Marsh and husband Dustin, Meredith Glenn; great-grandchildren, Olivia Marsh, Westin Marsh, Emma Tedder, James Faulkner, and Joshua Faulkner; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jeanette Hoyle, Paul and Denise Spencer, and Joyce White. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Steve Fain and Rev. Jeff Glenn officiating. Obituary Preview: Terry William “Farmer” Withers, age 67 of Lincolnton, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Atrium Health Lincoln.  He was born June 25, 1954, in Gaston County to the late William “Bill” Jenkins Withers and Helen Marie Ingle Withers.  Terry was a member of Riverview Baptist Church and loved Gospel Music.  He also enjoyed playing Rhythm and Bass music.  Terry liked going to weekly yardsales and loved fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Mitchell Withers; his miniature beagle, Sambo; children, Brandon Withers (Angel) and Schronda Withers (George Carlton); stepchildren, Bryon Dean Baker (Kelly) and Barbie Willis (Mike); sister, Karen Goins (Rocky); mother-in-law, Hazel Mitchell; grandchildren, Kyle Withers (Rosa), Demry Carlton, and Tallie Carlton; step-grandchildren, Andrew Willis (Kaylynne), Carolina Baker, and Josie Dean Baker; and nephew, Rocky Goins, Jr.

Obituary Preview: Sue Hendricks Beam, 95, of Dameron Rd., died April 20, 2022, in Commerce, GA. She was born September 27, 1926, in Gaston County to the late Furman S. and Julia Wilson Hendricks.
Mrs. Beam was a homemaker and dedicated member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church since 1955. She taught the Women’s Sunday School class for 45 years and served as assistant Treasurer of the church.  Sue was also a member of the WMU, and a proud graduate of Cherryville High School class of 1943. She was known as the family caregiver.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Beam; and brother, Clayton S. Hendricks.
Survivors include her daughter, Lib Rumfelt and husband, Randy of Nicholson, GA; grandsons, Wesley Rumfelt (Cathy) of Athens, GA, and Will Rumfelt of Decatur, GA; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Ollie Rumfelt.

William Keith Turpie, Sr. - June 24, 1923 - April 09, 2022

Obituary Preview: William “Keith” Turpie, Sr., age 98 of Cherryville, NC, formerly of Columbus, OH, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.   He was born June 24, 1923 in Franklin County, Ohio to the late Stubert Turpie, Sr. and Leona Morgan Turpie.  Keith was a graduate of Bexley High School in Bexley, OH.  He was a proud member of the Welsh Society of Central Ohio.  He was a WWII Army Veteran.  Keith was passionate about Target Shooting Competition.  He was awarded the 1953 Wimbledon Cup Marksmanship Trophy during the National Rifle and Pistol Matches.  Keith loved a good game of checkers.  He enjoyed challenging everyone he met which typically always led to him beating his competitor.  He recently became fascinated with Curling from the Olympics and at age 98, took on the adventure to learn Curling.  He loved reading and made it his mission to never stop learning.  He was alive up until the very end and enjoyed living every day to the fullest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his companion of 30 years, Celianna Taylor.
Survivors include his son, Keith Turpie, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH; daughter, Sheryl Brown of Cherryville, NC; granddaughters, Melinda Muñoz (Cullen Cox) of Alpharetta, GA, Laura Winchester (Chuck) of Cherryville, NC, and Bridget Turpie of Columbus, OH; great grandchildren, Gavin Davis and Mikayla Davis, both of Cherryville, NC; brother, Stubert “Mick” Turpie, Jr. (Marjorie) of Mercersburg, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born February 25, 1961, son to the late Ronald Lee and Selena Elizabeth Leonhardt Alexander.  Clay was member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.  He was a 1979 Graduate of Cherryville High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball.  He then graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Gardner Webb where he had continued his sports career with football and baseball.  Clay went on to teach and coach at North Gaston High School and W.C. Friday Junior High in the late 80’s.  He was retired from Lowe’s Home Improvement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Kent Alexander.
He is survived by his loving wife, Myra Neill Alexander; sister, Leanne Alexander Brady and husband, David of Pinehurst; nephews, Alexander and Anderson Brady; and his beloved furbaby, Bandit.

Obituary Preview: John Stephen Wright, age 77 of Cherryville, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at his residence.  He was born July 14, 1944 in Gaston County to the late Robert and Ruth Martin Wright.  John worked many years in management with the textile industry and then retired from Freightliner.  He attended Shady Grove Baptist Church.  John was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and riding horses.  He was a lifelong member of the Lincolnton Sportsman Club and a lifetime member of the NRA.  John enjoyed his family and friends.  He could often be found at Homefolks at “The Liar’s Table,” enjoying the company of his dearest friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mack, Renee, and Bob; and his lifelong friend, Ron Hamm, who once told John “I’m going ahead of you and finding us a good fishing hole.”
Survivors include his loving wife, Tonya Flinn Wright; children, Johnna Stamey (Bill), Stacie Wright, Candie Wright (Tammi), and Trent Wright (Tawana); grandchildren, Whitney Walker (Tyler), Stephen Wright (Allie), and Wesley Wright (Chloe); brother-in-law, Tim Flinn (Janice); nephews and niece, Sammy Cadieu, Rachel Flinn and Eli Flinn; and his beloved furbabies, Darby, Jax, and Bert.

James Edward Mason - August 30, 1944 - March 24, 2022

Obituary Preview: James Edward Mason, age 77, passed away peacefully after a brief illness with his family by his side on March 24, 2022. Born August 30,1944 in Gaston County to the late William Everette and Pearl Mae Neal Mason, James grew up in Jenkin Heights, where he began his life-long love of being on a ballfield. James graduated from Tryon High School, where he was MVP of the baseball team, and soon after served in the U.S. Army. James was employed by Norwesco and after retiring began working on small engines. He played softball with several teams through the years and continued to coach for many more years after hanging up his cleats.
James was known for his sense of humor and kindness. He was an avid sports fan including a fanatical love of the Tennessee Lady Vols. James was an obsessive sports memorabilia collector and possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of sports statistics, trivia, and oldies music. He loved spending time with his family and most of all being Pawpaw to Elliott. He and his wife also enjoyed camping for many years at Daniel Boone Campground.
Left to cherish his memory; high-school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Lenita Hastings Mason, daughters; Gwen Mason, Linda Twardos and husband Joseph and Grandson, apple of his eye and greatest blessing, Elliott James Twardos. Brothers-in-law; Calvin Hastings and wife Terresa, Donald Hastings and Frank Plichta. Daughter’s In-laws and special caregiver Charlene Blackburn and husband Brian. Brother Charles Mason and wife Ann, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters; Diane Mason and Annie Mae Jackson; brothers William “Bud” Mason and Robert Wayne Mason and his beloved four-legged companion Chico.

Obituary Preview: Tammy Ann Towery Womack, age 47, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at her residence.  She was born July 5, 1974 in Lincoln County to the late Larry Farrell and Gail Ann Neill Towery.  Tammy was a member of Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church.  She was a 1992 Graduate of West Lincoln High School.  Tammy enjoyed tanning and going to the beach.  She loved 80’s music and especially Def Leppard.  She was fun-loving and made everyone laugh.  She could always be found in flip-flops with a Sundrop.  Tammy was one-of-a-kind and could light up any room she entered.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Cameron Ray Jeter.

Fred was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  He enjoyed farming and loved animals.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved working the land.

Survivors include her children, Jeffrey Scott Hayes and Allison of Cherryville, Jerry Coleman Hayes and Kathy Morelock of Atlanta, and Ashley Hayes Goodson and Kevin of Newton; grandchildren, A.J. Barbara was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting. She loved sharing her home with her sister Kathy and her dog Oscar along with many outdoor pets. She was quick to laugh and cherished spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Terry Thalas Smith; brothers, Jake Slaughter and Cramer “Buddy” Slaughter; sisters, Jane Carpenter and Evon McKinney.
Barbara was a loving mother of two boys and is survived by those sons, Jimmy J. Smith and wife Wendy, and James R. Smith; sisters, Carolyn Lail and Kathy Smith; grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Mitchell Smith and wife Logan, and Terry Holmes; and great-granddaughter, Evelynn Smith.

Mrs. Barrett was a well loved and respected member of the Waco Community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Barrett, Sr.

She taught early education at both First United Methodist Church, and First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J. C. Dellinger; brother, Gene Bookout; brother-in-law, Bill Price.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen D. West and husband, Retired Lt. Col.
