75, of Camby, passed away on January 14, 2023, at The Waters in Martinsville. Frank was born on May 9, 1947 in Miami, Florida to the late Carl Goodwin and Marie Pell.

Frank grew up in Tennessee, where he served in the Tennessee National Guard and later earned a Doctorate in Theology from the Gospel School of the Bible. He led a life of faith and service as a minister for over 51 years. He started pastoring at Gretna First Baptist in Nebraska, then to Berean Baptist in Old Fort, TN, New Life Baptist in Franklin, IN, Friendswood Baptist in Camby, IN, Way of the Cross Baptist in Camby, IN and most recently was a member of the Holy Trinity Reformed Church in Camby, IN. He married the love of his life, Brenda Fay (Hayes) Goodwin on July 31, 1968, and were married over 54 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, especially building furniture and little toys for children. He will be remembered as a good and faithful servant, who was quick to make friends, by using his quick wit along with a dry sense of humor, often used during stressful times to put others at ease.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Fay (Hayes) Goodwin, daughter Carman (Mike) Bishop, siblings Tom Goodwin, Linda Smith, Brenda Hughes, Carlene Dodson, half sisters Clara Lee Wolfe, Elsie Bramlett, Elizabeth Thurman, grandchildren Nathan Smallwood, Mark Smallwood, Elizabeth Smallwood, Matthew Smallwood, James Smallwood, and great grandchildren Paul William Smallwood, Isabelle Smallwood, Joseph Smallwood, Madeline Smallwood, Maisie Smallwood and one more on the way, Rachel Marie Smallwood.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Frank’s life on Tuesday, January 17th from 4-6pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with services starting at 6pm in the funeral home, with Pastor James Brown, Jr. officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 19th at 2pm in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Cleveland, Tennessee, officiated by his good friend, Pastor A.C. Cooper, with whom he served at New Salem Baptist Church.

93, of Mooresville, passed away on January 8, 2023, at Meadow Lakes in Mooresville. Leslie was born on April 11, 1929 at home in Mooresville, Indiana to the late Paul Jay Shrake and Hazel (Pascoe) Shrake.

Leslie was a machinist and consultant for Best Lock and owner of Indy Lock for many years. Grounded in his faith, he and his wife Mary were long time members of Grace Church in Mooresville and later attended the Mooresville Church of God. He enjoyed hunting small and big game alike. He also enjoyed woodworking, tending to his yard and landscaping. He will be remembered as a Christian man who was strong in his faith and for his strong work ethic.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Cure) Shrake, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

He is survived by his daughters Cyndi Beleele, Debi Shrake, grandchildren Lisa Fredrick, Jason Crouch, Mike Walden, Andrea Walden, Jennifer Walden, C. J. Vidal, Caleigh Vidal, 4 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Leslie’s life on Saturday, Jan. 14th at 11am at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Wesley Simpson Harris, III - December 07, 1946 - January 08, 2023

Obituary Preview: Wesley Simpson Harris, III, Martinsville, passed away January 8, 2023, after a lengthy battle with kidney failure. Mr. Harris was born December 7, 1946, in Vincennes, Indiana, to the late Wesley Simpson Harris, Jr. and Edith (Foreman) Harris. He married Erika (Keil) Harris on December 19, 1970, and she survives.

Wesley attended school in Bicknell until the family moved to Indianapolis during his senior year of high school, and he graduated from Howe High School. He proudly served in the United States Army. A longtime member of the Local Union 440, Wesley was a master plumber/pipefitter for close to 50 years. He was a well-respected tradesman who trained and groomed many pipefitters. He retired in 2006 from BMW Constructors. Wesley never met a stranger, and his quick, dry wit was a beloved trait that created lasting friendships. He was an accomplished woodworker and made many gifts for friends and family, including butterfly houses, cutting boards, and furniture. He was a member of the American Legion Post #230 in Martinsville and the French Club in Bicknell. Always proud of his roots and his heritage, Wes was the family man who made sure reunions occurred and that family members stayed connected. He will be fondly remembered by his loved ones and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Sue Vahl.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Erika Harris; sister, Joyce (Steve Harris) Harris; nieces, Kelly Rose, and Becky Bellamy; great niece, Riley Rose.

His life became fuller with the arrival of his grandchildren, and he enjoyed being a fun-loving, active grandpa. Larry will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and quiet generosity.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his loving dog, Molly.

She always displayed her southern hospitality to those around her. She enjoyed shopping at the “GW Boutique” (Goodwill), loved flowers, angels, and most of all her best friend & pup, Gizzy.

Frederick H. Cordes - April 21, 1947 - January 02, 2023

Obituary Preview: Frederick H. Cordes, 75, longtime Mooresville resident, passed away peacefully at home January 2, 2023. Fred was born April 21, 1947, in Indianapolis, to the late Henry F. and Mildred (Gadberry) Cordes. He married Alice (Butler) Cordes on June 27, 1970, and she survives.

Fred graduated from Plainfield High School in 1965 and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Vincennes University, and armed with an incredible work ethic, he was employed as a journeyman electrician for the Allison Division of General Motors for over 41 years, retiring in 2007. Always interested in being a strong provider for his family, it was not uncommon for Fred to work 80 hours a week.

His community was also important to Fred. He was a 50+ year member of the First Christian Church, where he served as deacon, trustee, and taught junior high Sunday School. He was a volunteer firefighter for Monroe Township, served on the Morgan County Civil Defense, and the Johnson County EMS Association. He was also on the Mooresville Fire Department and was instrumental in bringing emergency management service to the Brown Township Fire Department. Fred was an avid Ham Radio operator. His handle was KD9ZR, and he always looked forward to connecting with other operators in other countries. During his retirement years, Fred was an active volunteer with Churches in Mission and always looked forward to his morning discussion group at Camby McDonalds. Fred was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed trains; he had an impressive Lionel train layout at one time. Above all, he was a family man who delighted in keeping up with his daughters, bonus daughters, and grandchildren. Fred will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dottie Trout; nephews, Trevor Trout, Richard Trout, and Ryan Reach.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Alice Cordes; daughters, Heather (Patrick) Hunter and Jennifer Cordes; bonus daughters, Christine (Dennis) Fletcher and Amanda (Lisa Childers) Butler; grandchildren, Andrew (Catherine) Fletcher, Sarah Hunter, Matthew Hunter, and Abigail Hunter; sister-in-law, Anne Reach; nephew, Christopher (Elyssa) Reach; niece, Donna (Gary) Smith; his beloved cat, Peyton.

She was always willing to lend an ear to her children, grandchildren, and friends. She had a sweet tooth and would often ask her children for a hot fudge sundae from Dairy Queen, hold the ice cream! Bob grew up in Indianapolis and was a graduate of Roncalli High School, where he excelled as a football player. He went on to attend Ball State University and played football at the college. Football remained a passion for Bob throughout his life. A talented carpenter, Bob was the owner of Midtown Roofing, Inc. for a number of years. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and training hunting dogs. His memory will be cherished by a loving family and many friends.

Survivors include two sons, Benjamin and Caleb Woods; his mother, Janet Woods; the mother of his two sons, Janice Woods; brothers, Tom Woods and James Woods; sisters, Rhonda Woods and Mariann Fisher.

Debbie graduated from Northwest High School. A licensed real estate agent, she has been employed with Carpenter Realtors in Mooresville for 25 years. Debbie was a member of New Life Community Wesleyan Church, where she served as the secretary of the church’s board and as the senior adult ministries director. Debbie was strong in her faith and a proud member of her church. She enjoyed bowling on the Happy Handicappers league and loved to play euchre. Family was tops for Debbie and was described as the glue that held everything together for her loved ones. Debbie will be fondly remembered for her loving and kind manner and her ability to always put others first.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, April Gibson and a brother, David Lakin.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Jeffrey Graham; mother, Norma Eileen Lakin; sons, Conley (Patty) Long and Andrew Graham; two grandchildren, Kahra (Curtis) Rainwater) and Mason Long; great grandchild, Kayli Rainwater.

Nina grew up in her grandparent's home with her mom and siblings. She always had great memories of their home. Nina worked for Indiana Bell for a short time and also worked as a nurse’s aide in her younger years. She attended Corinth Baptist Church in Plano, Indiana as a child and young teen and Eternal Life Baptist Church after moving to  Mooresville. Nina loved singing in her Ladies Gospel Group and playing Piano. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, and canning. Her true passion was being at home with her children while they were growing up. Nina loved to crochet and quilt. All of her beautiful quilts were hand sewn with love.

Nina is survived by her daughter; Sherri (Monty) Stierwalt, grandchildren; Chyenne, Tracy, Cassandra, Shelby, and Taylor and great-grandchildren; Austin, Madisyn, Zachary, Kyleigh, Keeghen, Karter, Kinley, Marlee, Barrett and Elliott.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband; William L. Cash, Son’s Merle “Gene” Cash, and Gregory L. Cash, along with her siblings; Bobby Dale and Betty Lou.

84, of Martinsville, passed away on December 24, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. Mary Jane was born on June 26, 1938, in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Lester Sievers and Mary Ann (Hess) Sievers.

Mary Jane entered the Daughters of Charity on September 1958 at Marillac Provincial House, St. Louis, MO where she trained as a nurse specializing in hospital work and more specifically maternity nursing. She served as a nurse for 15 years at various hospitals in St. Louis, San Francisco, Evansville, Nashville and Chicago. Mary Jane was a graduate of Marillac College St. Louis 1963 with a BSN Nursing and Philosophy degree. She also received professional training at St. Mary’s School of Nursing Evansville, IN.

Mary Jane went on to further pursue her nursing career and spent time as an instructor for the LPN/ Associate Nursing Program and earned a Masters of Nursing degree in Women’s health from IU. She worked as a OBGYN nurse practitioner for many years, retiring in 2002.

Mary Jane loved being active, spending time outdoors, gardening, hiking, biking, fishing, and playing euchre. She loved animals, building birdhouses, and traveling the world, throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and to parts unknown. Mary Jane touched many lives and had many friends both far and near. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her siblings as well as her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a kind, compassionate soul who always wanted to help others. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed trying to “pull your leg” any chance she could. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Donald, Tony, Lester Jr. “Bud”, Irvan, Gilbert, George, and a sister Betty.

She is survived by her brothers, Larry, Joe, Steve, sister Hilda, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Hank was born at home March 22, 1941, in Munising, Michigan, in the upper peninsula of Michigan, to the late Henry A. and Beatrice Anna (Nickle) Raymond.

He graduated from Purdue University in 1964 and again in 1974 with a master’s degree in Audiology. He worked as an audiologist at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis for 35 years.

He proudly and honorably served in the United States Marine Corp for three years, 13 months of which were spent in Vietnam. He later joined and retired from the United States Army Reserves, attaining the rank of Major during his time of service.

Hank served as a Cub Scout leader, a Boy Scout leader, and coached his son in Little League baseball.

Hank had a deep love for family and was happiest on the many family vacations that he took with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. He especially treasured the many memories of the western trips, the first Walt Disney World trip, and most recently, “Steven’s trip”.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret (Lewis) Raymond; son, Michael Henry (Tami) Raymond; grandchildren, Matthew (Nikki) Raymond, Rebekah Raymond, Steven Raymond, David Raymond, Margaret Ann Raymond, and Thomas Raymond; great grandchildren, Abram and Oliver Raymond. He is also survived by sisters, Bonnie Sims and Karen Raymond; brothers-in-law, Kenn (Mary) Coy, Karl (Jeanette) Coy, and Mark Fowler; numerous nieces and nephews. Upon returning from service, he worked for the Speedway Police Department and retired from General Motors after 20 years of service in 2006. He was a member of Souls Harbor Church in Plainfield, American Legion Post #103, the V.F.W Post #1111 in Mooresville, Speedway Masonic Lodge #500, and the Murat Shrine.

Dennis lived life to its fullest, on his terms, often being mistaken as a Clint Eastwood look alike. Although stubborn at times, he had a deep love of family and enjoyed spending time with them as well as riding his Harley Davidson Tri Glide with his beloved wife Shirley, taking road trips across the country. He will be missed by his loving family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Peggy Broadstreet and a son Dennis Pitcher, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley (Nichols) Pitcher; children Kim (Lafe) Swinney, Karen Smith, Scott (Bernadette) Pitcher, Denise Smeltzer; grandchildren Logan Smith, Andrew Schrader, Jacklyn Engle, Cody Swaniger, Matthew Smeltzer, Sara (Mason) Altman, Aaron Pitcher, Brant Pitcher, Ki Swinney, Thomas Swinney and 8 great grandchildren.

He married Patricia Kay (Shover) Gregory on August 28, 1960, and she survives.

Mr. Gregory attended Walnut Grove Elementary School and Mooresville High School with the class of 1955. As a young man, he was involved in FFA, 4H, and played basketball in high school. He was a dairy farmer his entire working life until his retirement in 2015.  He and Pat were involved with Clay Township Farm Bureau for many years.  Mr. Gregory was a member, deacon, and deacon emeritus at the Brooklyn Christian Church his entire life, a church that his great great grandfather helped build. He was also an avid IU Basketball and Bob Knight fan. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in caring for his property. John will be fondly remembered by his loving family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Ralph Eugene Gregory; one sister, Rose Mary Gregory Tumey.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Patricia Kay Gregory; children, John Robert Gregory, Jr., Katholeen Kiley Gregory Jackson (Roger) and Jeremy Ryan Gregory (Melissa); sister, Beverly Ann Gregory Heacox; grandchildren, Gregory Stephen Long, Casey Ryan Long (Jocelyn), Jadon Rose Jackson Tinkle (Cody), Abbigail Breanne Gregory, Paige Amanda Gregory, and Jeren Ryan Gregory.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald Walters; sister Michelle Walters; sisters in law Dana Walters, and Janet Walters.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Melody (Emmitt) Walters; sons Zachary (Ashley) Emmitt, Anthony Walters; grandchildren Hailee, Savannah, Abby, Gaven, Brantley, Raelyn; mother Irene Walters; brothers Mike (Chris) Walters, Gary Walters, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ron’s wishes were that he be cremated, and scattered privately on his family hunting property, where he loved to be. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Thursday, December 22nd at 4pm, at the Amo Conservation Bird Dog Club, 3802 South County Road 550 West, Coatesville, IN 46121, with tributes and memories being shared starting at 5pm.
