She is preceded in death by parents Guy and Virginia Bishop, her husband John P. Weldon, and sister Sue Dean.
Louise grew up in Marietta, GA. As a child she loved music, fishing with her dad, and terrorizing her sister with snakes and lizards. She was involved in Girls Auxiliary through the Southern Baptist Church where she earned the highest honor as a young teen and was crowned “Mission Queen” at the annual Coronation. She was first chair saxophonist in the esteemed Marietta High School marching band. After graduating in 1966, she was one of the first students at Kennesaw Junior College (now KSU) while also working to save money to attend Wheaton College outside of Chicago where she transferred for her final years and graduated with a BA in Sociology.
Louise had many interests, talents, and creative passions. She had a heart of service and loved helping people. One of her first jobs was with Cobb County Child and Family Services. Throughout her career in social services, Louise served the blind community, worked for the Welfare Department, and was a caregiver for people with intellectual and physical disabilities. Louise and John served as group home parents for adults with disabilities when Rainbow was a baby providing her an opportunity to work from home.
Louise was a natural born leader and had a deep spiritual and intuitive nature. In the 70’s she started exploring Metaphysics and studied A Course in Miracles as well as the work of biblical scholar, Dr. Rocco Errico. This exploration helped to bridge her Baptist upbringing with her current spiritual beliefs. She truly desired to live a life modeled after Jesus serving “the least of these.” In the 80’s Louise and John and her sister Sue discovered the Science of Mind teachings and attended what is now the Spiritual Living Center of Atlanta. Here, Louise became a Licensed Spiritual Practitioner and trained as a Minister with Dr. Kennedy Shultz. Louise established the Jr. Church program at ACRS (now SLCA) and served as the Youth Director for 15 years. During that time, she met her co-author Anne Mather and wrote children’s books called The Cat at the Door Series including two books, a journal and workbook. Louise then worked as a Child Abuse Prevention Specialist and Trainer through Good Touch, Bad Touch in Cartersville, GA which she saw as her most impactful work.
Louise was a spiritual seeker and studied a variety of healing modalities and energy work. She was a licensed Hypnotherapist, Karuna and Usui Reiki Master, and studied and then trained many others in various energy healing disciplines. When her daughter graduated college and moved to Chicago, she and John moved back to Cartersville. In 2005, her beloved husband of almost 30 years died of Cancer. Louise then focused on her energy healing work and ran a cooperative healing arts center for a few years.
Louise had a very close relationship with her siblings Guy and Sue. She loved to travel and some of her favorite memories are of the vacations they would take to Florida and North Carolina each year. This tradition continued after the kids were grown, occasionally just the three siblings. Time was filled with Guy’s amazing cooking and playing Canasta, Risk, Scrabble and other games while laughing, reminiscing and creating new memories. A most memorable trip was her venture to Scotland with Sue, Guy and Craig.
The birth of her grandchild, Cadence Louise Marsh-Prelesnik, in 2015 beckoned Louise back to Chicago. In 2019 they all moved to Lexington, KY where Rev. Rainbow was called to serve at the Ahava Center for Spiritual Living.
Louise impacted many people’s lives through her humor, wisdom, creativity, and healing energy. She will be remembered for the trail of love she left in each community she touched. Her legacy lives on now through her daughter, Rev. Rainbow Weldon and granddaughter, Cadence Louise as well as all of those lives, she has touched.
There will be a celebration of life held on Saturday, April 6 at 4pm at Ahava Center for Spiritual Living, 168 Burt Rd. Lexington, KY 40503 with a reception to follow. The service will also be livestreamed on Ahava Center's YouTube channel and Rainbow Weldon's Facebook page. The family requests donations to honor Louise's life be made to Ahava Center for Spiritual Living, Louise Weldon Memorial Fund. www.ahavacenter.net/give
