Obituary Preview: Darleen Barbra Kay, (formerly Robert Knapik) of Bolingbrook passed away March 23, 2024.  Born in Chicago to the  late Walter and Jeanette (nee Inwalski) Knapik on February 15, 1937.  Darleen leaves behind three loving children Robin (Eileen) Knapik, Jay Knapik and Ginger (Jeff) Scott;  four wonderful grandchildren Danny, Alexandria, Ian and Cameron; and two siblings  Katherine (Ben) Jankowski and the late Jerry (Pat) Knapik.

Obituary Preview: Richard Keith Palermo Sr., 72, of Wonder Lake passed away peacefully at his home March 18, 2024.  Born in Chicago October 2, 1951 to the late Eugene and Mary Palermo.  Beloved husband of June (nee Kramer) for 53  years; loving father of Richard K. II (Dawn) Palermo and Victoria M. Palermo; proud grandfather of Rose Palermo; dear brother of Jim Palermo and Barbara Santogrossi; caring uncle of many nieces and nephews.  Richard is preceded in death by his brothers Michael and Timothy.
Richard loved life, whatever he found himself doing to occupy his time he was enjoying it.  He dedicated much of his time taking his family on vacations, they found themselves camping and site seeing all over the United States during their growing up years.  Along with camping, hunting and fishing were a favorite way to pass the time.  Richard also enjoyed watching Nascar, hockey and football; cheering on his favorites, Dale Earnhart and Jr., the Dallas Cowboys and of course the Bears and Blackhawks.  He was a member of the Wonder Lake Hunt Club and the NRA, and dedicated many years working for John Crane in Crystal Lake where in which he retired from.  Richard was a big hearted person who was spunky and fun to be around, he was passionate about music of all kinds but especially liked the oldies, rock and Conway Twitty.

Beloved wife of Warren Spencer; loving mother of Karin (Les) Gocza, Frank Lietsch, Cindy (Les) Capri and Nancy (Dave) Davis; caring grandmother of Mandy (Lisa) Hood, Jamie (Susan) Hood, Greg (Nikki) Lietsch, Frankie (Pam) Lietsch, Robert Lietsch, Sean Lietsch, Pauly (Ali) Lietsch, along with Jennifer, Tiffany and Jaci; proud great grandmother of eight cherished great grandchildren and fond sister of three loving sisters.
Marianne enjoyed spending her time gardening with her granddaughter, sewing and dancing and especially loved baking and preparing to host family holidays. She was also an active and devoted church member. Above all else Marianne cherished time spent with her family and always offering her unconditional love and support. She was a friend to all the lives she touched and will be greatly missed by many.

She was born in Ukraine on February 11, 1941 to Mykola & Maria lhnat iuk. She married Leslie 'Les' Maraldi in August of 1960. She grew up in Chicago as was a long time resident of Woodstock, Illinois. She and her husband, Les, built their home in 1978 and filled it with memories shared by many. There were many big holiday meals where she cooked a spread for dozens & summer pool parties under yellow fringed patio umbrellas. She was a lover of music, theater and gardening. She saw Elvis in concert and brushed shoulders with Mister Rogers. Helen's love of family and zest for life left an impression for all who met her. Everyone was welcome and was touched by her generosity and kindness. When you told Helen, 'I love you' she would respond with 'I love your more.'.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband & brother Anatoli lhnatiuk. She is survived by her children John (Nicole) Joyce, Patricia (Edward) McNamara and Andrew (Donna) Ginocchio; her brothers Stephen lhnatiuk, Walter lhnatiuk, Michael (Norma) lhnatiuk and Larry lhnatiuk, sister Lucille Smentek, grandson Gavin Joyce and many nieces and nephews. Obituary Preview: Herbert (Herb) Tamez III, 48 passed away unexpectedly/peacefully in Elgin Illinois at St. Joseph’s Hospital on February 8, 2024 Born in Harlingen, Texas, June 2, 1975. Herb was a wonderful son, husband and father leaving behind his wife Jessica Tamez, only son Antonio Tamez, mother Toni (Jim) Majczek. Herb is preceded in death by his grandparents Guadalupe and Margarita Leos, aunts Mary Guzman and Elena Cabrera, uncle Sone Guzman, cousins Rick Garcia and Samuel Leos. Survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He is survived by his father Herbert (Lupita) Tamez. Preceded in death by his grandparents Heriberto and Genoveva Tamez, brother Danny Tamez. Survived by Siblings: Adrian, Allan, Kassandra and David Tamez and numerous aunts, uncles and friends.
Herb graduated from Harlingen High School South in 1993. He moved back to Illinois to live with his mom and step-dad where he attended Waubonsee Community College and earned his CNA certificate. He later pursued another career in manufacturing where he was promoted to supervisor at Dana Corporation, Crossville, TN. Herb was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and would not miss a game. He enjoyed fishing, cookouts, exploring and hiking the beautiful trails and waterfalls in TN. Herb will be greatly missed. He was a loving, caring and a very generous man who was taken from us too soon. We will always be reminded of Herb’s smile when we look upon the face of his son Antonio.
Friends and family are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 1313 Buchanan St, Harlingen, Texas at 10:00 AM, April 5, 2024.. Immediately after the service Herb will be laid to rest at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery, 21037 Godwin Rd, Harlingen, Texas. Deep devotion to family, he is survived by his wife Linda Wagner and two siblings MaryAnn Capek and Edward John Mitiu. Also surviving are his two sons Elliot and Wesley Mitiu and stepdaughter Kira (Erik) Netzke, two grandchildren Colt and Ayla Netzke, and sister-in-laws Cindy (Dave) Engstrom and Susan Wagner, and many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many enduring friends and neighbors. During the Vietnam War, he served in the American Air Force. After his years of service, he worked as salesman and manager with several logistic companies. His favorite hobbies included travel, shopping at antique and resale shops, fishing and boating, and making fishing lures.

Thomas was a devoted adoptive father of twins, a charismatic teacher at DePaul University, a successful CEO at TESCO and a humanitarian to his family and friends. He was a lover of life who wanted the best for anyone he called friend and his legacy lives on through the hearts he touched around him. His conscientiousness, mentorship, generosity, and witty quips will never be forgotten.

Obituary Preview: Diane Mary O'Rourke, 92, of McHenry, passed away peacefully September 16, 2023 in Wauconda IL.  Born in Chicago November 6, 1930 to the late Ernest and Ettie Zundel.  Beloved wife of the late Edward O'Rourke; loving mother to Iris (Mark) Dzemske and caring grandmother to her one and only granddaughter, Danielle Dzemske.
Diane was a fighter & a survivor. She survived polio, lived thru the depression & was a breast cancer survivor. Due to the repercussions of the polio she had limited mobility for the past 30 years but it never stopped her, she kept going. She spent a lot of time in her home watching movies and loved doing word searches. She talked on the phone for hours, sometimes the only thing that ended the conversation was the battery went dead on the phone. She loved animals but more than anything she adored her parents. There was not a day that would pass that they were not thought of or mentioned & knowing that she has now been reunited with them brings comfort. In her younger days she was a librarian and helped start up the Nunda Township Library, now known as The River East Library, she was so very proud of that. Diane was a very spiritual person, she had many prayer books that she read from daily. She prayed for everyone, had a good heart, was a sweet lady & she will be missed.

Obituary Preview: Shirley Ann DeSort, 72, of Woodstock passed away August 29. 2023 at her home.  Born December 18, 1950 in Hillsboro Wisconsin to the late Cecil and Lois (nee Griffin) Turner.  Beloved mother of Darla DeSort, Darren DeSort, Dane DeSort and Dustin DeSort; loving grandmother of Maddox, Kallie and Madelynn McRoberts; caring sister of Judy (Michael) Strohl, Linda Turner, the late Baby Turner, the late Peggy Turner, the late Connie Turner and Debbie (Josh) Pratt.  Shirley also leaves behind her loving and former spouse Dennis DeSort.
Shirley was an outgoing and loving person, she easily made strangers into friends and very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She had an especially close relationship with her sister Linda.  Shirley always had a positive attitude and truly cared for all those she knew. She will be most remembered by her laugh; Shirley had the best laugh her friends would say.  Above all else, she cherished the time with her children and grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Matthew Warren, age 49, passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2023 in McHenry, Illinois. Beloved son of Mike and Gloria Warren. Fond brother of John (Niki) Warren, Michelle (Mark) Donnelly, Michael (Kelsey) Warren Jr., Jeremy Warren, and Angela (Anthony Pullano) Warren. Dear grandson of Caroline Bednar. Loving uncle to several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his dog, Buddy, and other extended family members, most notably his grandmother Dorothy Warren, who surely greeted him at Heaven’s gate.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Matthew served in the United States Navy after graduating high school. In his adult years, he lived in various cities across the U.S. before moving to McHenry to be closer to family. Matthew loved the outdoors, the Chicago Cubs, hiking, animals, cars, writing, and the mountains. He was a gentle and kind soul with an infectious smile, uplifting sense of humor, and intelligent mind. He will be missed by many and never forgotten.

Christopher Thompson - June 20, 1971 - August 20, 2023

Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness we announce the death of Chris Thompson. Chris died in the early hours of August 20, 2023 at the age of 52, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Chris was having difficulty breathing and after taking oxygen he became unresponsive and could not be revived by cpr.
Chris lived in Crystal Lake, IL with his wife Melissa after growing up in Wauconda.
Chris married Melissa the greatest wife ever on September 20, 1997 after being together since 1992. They had a daughter Cassandra and two step sons from Chris’s first marriage that he treated as his own Robert and James Saltz.
Chris worked for the IBEW Local 117 for almost 30 years as a Foreman in the low voltage side. Chris enjoyed running jobs and comradery with the guys he worked with. When not working he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, partying, playing games, hanging out together and cooking, he would make the most delicious meals and then ask everyone how they liked it, definitely appreciated “compliments to the chef”. Chris especially enjoyed the time he spent watching and playing with his grandson Xavier. Chris loved having a good time and being the life of the party. Chris is survived by his wife Melissa, daughter Cassandra (Adam) Carr, and step sons Robert (Ashley) Saltz and James (Ashley) Saltz and eight grandkids, brother Kelly Thompson, nephew Brandon Thompson, aunt Shannon Bloznik, cousin Rob (Rebecca) Van Pelt, uncle Tracey Thompson, Father and Mother in law Chuck and Judi Stuck, mother Jackie Smith and aunt Dar Freeman and many friends. Chris’s dad Kelly Thompson preceded him in death in 1994 and his grandmother Annie Thompson in 2016.
An open house to celebrate and have a toast for Chris will be on Sunday – September 24, 2023 from 12-5 at his and Melissa’s home at 9611 Beech Avenue, Crystal Lake. Memorial Service around 3pm.

Janina Majzerowicz - June 08, 1931 - August 18, 2023

Obituary Preview: Janina Maria Majzerowicz, 92, passed away on August 18th, 2023. Janina was born June 8th, 1931 in Pasieka Otfinowska, a small village in Southern Poland, to parents Stefania ?abuz and Piotr Galus. During her childhood, marked by the brutal German and Soviet occupation of Poland, she lived and worked on the family farm and attended school in the nearby city of Tarnów. After a chance encounter at a wedding and a whirlwind courtship, Janina married her husband Bogdan Majzerowicz on July 16, 1953. The couple moved to Tarnów, where Bogdan worked at the family grain mill and Janina settled into life as a homemaker. In 1984, Janina made the life-altering decision to follow her young daughter Margaret to America. Leaving behind all she knew, Janina began a new life in Chicago, where she lovingly helped raise her American grandsons Mark and Michael, providing a crucial link to their Polish heritage. Soon after immigrating, Janina began a new career: working as an at-home caregiver. Over the decades, Janina assisted dozens of elderly individuals, patiently nursing them with uncommon care and love. Throughout her life, Janina was a devout Catholic who took great solace in prayer and the sacraments. She led a life of service to others and made tremendous sacrifices to ensure the welfare of her loved ones both in Poland and in the United States. When she herself fell ill with Alzheimer's in 2013, her daughter Margaret and grandson Mark embodied her legacy of compassion and kindness, nursing Janina at home in Crystal Lake until her passing.
Janina was preceded in death by her sister Stanis?awa Soch, her parents, Stefania and Piotr Galus, and her beloved husband, Bogdan Majzerowicz. Janina is survived by her sister, Zofia Pecak; her children, Margaret Majzerowicz-Pecak and Janusz Majzerowicz; grandchildren Mark and Michael Pecak, Krzysztof Majzerowicz, and Ma?gorzata Smagacz; and great-grandchildren Wojciech and Mateusz Smagacz and Jan Majzerowicz. Janina will be interred at St. Adalbert's Cemetery in Niles, Illinois. Her funeral mass at St. Ladislaus Parish in Chicago will take place on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, at 11:00am.

Obituary Preview: Lynn Bartlett Bonti, known to many by the affectionate moniker Yuckariah J. Springfield, age 71, passed away peacefully on August 11th, 2023.
Lynn was born on July 30th, 1952, in Goldsboro, NC. In her youth she was a talented pianist with a passion for the Carolina coast and devotion to her two younger brothers. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1974. There she met her husband, Paul Bonti, to whom she was married on August 12th, 1972. In December 2022, Lynn and Paul celebrated more than fifty years of marriage with a festive holiday gathering of their boisterous family.
In 1983 Lynn moved to Crystal Lake, IL where she raised her four children and was an active contributor to her community. As a longtime member of the Crystal Lake Jaycees, Lynn participated in numerous service projects and earned state-level recognition for her leadership of the chapter’s Christmas basket project. She worked for many years at Montgomery Ward and finished her working years with Chase Bank in Elgin, IL.
Lynn is remembered by all who knew her for her Southern-tinged sweetness, her readiness to lend caring support to others in need, and most of all for her inexhaustible kindness. She opened her house and her heart to her friends and all her children’s friends, and made a home that emanated light and fellowship. To spend time in Lynn’s home was to know that one was loved.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Paul Bonti; her children Brian (Jennifer), Gregg (Heather), Karyn and Julia; her many grandchildren who she cherished with every fiber of her being: Kalie and Joshua Schock, Benjamin Sherwood, Brogan and Asher Pappalardo, Joseph Faulkner, and Quinn, Autumn, Sophia and Caius Bonti; and her brother Gary (Mary) Bartlett and nephew Will. She was preceded in death by her parents Luther Osborne (aka Oz) & Caroline Bartlett, and her brother Timothy Bartlett.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother (Gigi). She was a devoted friend, a long time member of her church, Zion Lutheran in Marengo. She always put others before herself and made all who came into her world feel welcome, loved and understood. She was known for her kind heart, infectious laugh and her unwavering spirit, which touched the lives of everyone she met.
We all looked to her as the foundation of our family and share many fond memories because of her ability to bring people together and celebrate. She will be greatly missed here on earth, but her legacy will be carried on, and we know that she is at peace and fully healed, celebrating with the lord.
Carole is survived by her husband, Thomas Fashingbauer, her daughter Laura Altamore (Kevin) and son’s, Matthew (Olga), Michael (Elise)and Mark (Deanna); her two step children, Mark and Paul Fashingbauer. Her 14 beloved grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Charles. And former husband Vince Altamore.
