Following his beloved mother's guidance to search for the Prem Autar, the God of Love, Nirmal made the decision to become a Disciple of Jesus Christ. He devoted his life to serving others, after his dear Lord and Savior's example, working in India in a variety of organizations, including Church World Service, Clara Swain Hospital, International Christian Leadership, Youth for Christ International, and the Christian Medical College and Brown Memorial Hospital Ludhiana. A partnership with Friends United Meeting brought Nirmal to Richmond, Indiana, where he met his wife, Diana. In 1991, Nirmal and his family moved to Barnesville, Ohio in order to manage the Walton Retirement Home, where he demonstrated profound love and care through his selfless ministry to the elderly and their families. After over twenty years of dedicated and diligent work, he retired to fulfill his lifelong dream of building a house, where he welcomed with warmth and hospitality, and an abundance of lovingly prepared foods, many treasured friends and family members from all around the world. Never one to be idle, Nirmal filled his days with writing his memoirs, tending his garden full of vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees, working on projects in his workshop, relaying his many stories and jokes with a twinkle in his eyes, and immersing himself in the intricacies of poetic verse, which he often quoted spontaneously as befit the occasion. He held dear in his heart not only his own family but numerous "adopted" brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, supporting his many loved ones generously through faithful prayers, loving actions, and words of wisdom, readily bestowed.

It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They can help facilitate communication among loved ones, provide closure, and offer a sense of community during a difficult time.

What is the purpose of an obituary?

The primary purpose of an obituary is to notify others of a person's passing, share details about their life, and provide information about funeral or memorial services. It also serves as a way to celebrate the person's life, achievements, and legacy.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member, close friend, or funeral home staff. In some cases, a professional writer or journalist may be hired to craft the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral or memorial services, charitable donations, and any other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Typically, it ranges from 100 to 500 words. Online obituaries often have more flexibility in terms of length and content.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. Online platforms may offer free or low-cost options, while traditional newspapers may charge by the word or line.

Can I write my own obituary?

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?
