Vira "Polly" Collom - December 13, 1926 - April 13, 2022

Departed: 04/13/2022 (Hobbs)
Obituary Preview: Vira (Polly) Collom passed from this life into eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 13, 2022.  She was born on December 13, 1926 in Peacock, Texas to George Walker and Flora Pearl (Tarrance) Dickson.  She married Ervin C. Collom on February 13, 1944, and they moved to Eunice, New Mexico in 1948.  They were married 47 years and raised four kids: Nell, Ronnie, Sharol, and Vaughn.  After devoting many years to family, she later became employed as a sales clerk with the Hobbs Dunlaps Department Store in 1977, where she worked for 21 years. One of Polly's favorite interests was music.  For many years, she played her favorite CD's every morning and credited that to her cheerful disposition.  She was also an avid reader of mysteries, and she was especially proud of receiving the honor of Library Patron of the Year. Polly enjoyed preparing delicious holiday meals for her family who raved about the dressing and homemade pies. She served as a role model to her girls and presented herself as "prim and proper." She cherished her shopping trips with her daughters and the giggles they had when they often bought the same top...in a different color.  Polly enjoyed a good laugh and loved the picture Vaughn sent her with the "John Wayne" toilet paper which she kept on display. She had a special relationship with her sons-in-law Don and the late Bill Turner.  Polly was a loving grandmother and affectionately known as "Mom" by all. Polly treasured the life-long close relationship with her sister Georgia who also lived in Eunice her entire life.  On Sunday morning, you would find them sitting together on their favorite pew at First Baptist Church. Polly lived in Eunice for 60 years before transitioning to an assisted living facility, but Eunice remained "home."
Survivors include two daughters: Nell Turner of Eunice, NM, Sharol Slate and husband Don of Cisco, TX; Son, Vaughn Collom and wife Teri of Ft. Worth, TX. Grandchildren: Scott Turner of Wolfforth, TX, Rance Turner of Lubbock, TX, Sean Cooper of Shawnee, KS, Ryan Cooper of San Marcos, CA, Damon Slate of Ft. Worth, TX, and Derek Slate of Rochester Hills, MI, Holly Collom of Ft. Worth, TX and Brandy Hukins of CA; 12 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband Ervin, son Ronnie, sister Georgia Hahn, and son-in-law Bill Turner.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Eunice.
