Pastor Debra Ann Clay - January 25, 1953 - December 01, 2019

Departed: 12/01/2019 (Denver)
Obituary Preview: On January 25, 1953 in Denver Colorado there arose a daughter in Zion. Debra Ann Jordan the second of six children, born to Bishop Lee Augustus and District Missionary Odessa Marie Jordan.
She was a born soldier for Christ. Early in life she began having dreams and visions and it was clear that she was a chosen vessel of God. At the age of 12 she became the director of the Campbell’s Memorial Church of God in Christ Youth choir. She held many positions at Campbell’s Memorial as many children of Pastor’s do, but the one nearest and dearest to her heart was when she became the Director and Minister of Music of the Campbell’s Memorial adult choir. Debra received many awards and was known for the masterful way in which she directed the choir. She held positions as the District, Jurisdictional and Regional Minister of Music and received an offer from Dr. Mattie Moss Clark to assist her with the International Church of God in Christ Choir. It was Debra’s desire to direct the heavenly choir and we believe that’s exactly what she’s doing right now, and boy are they in for a long rehearsal. This part of her journey would span over 30 years and would lead to collaborations with Thomas Whitfield, Timothy Wright, James Moore and a recording opportunity with John P. Kee.
Debra Clay took a job as the buyer of Janet Lee’s Boutique. She thrived in this position both Spiritually and professionally. People would come to the boutique to shop and get comforting words. She was so great at her job that she was quickly promoted to Manager. Debra used her impeccable taste to elevate the inventory of the boutique and make it a place to get trend setting outfits.
Debra was the matriarch of the family. She would encourage large family trips. The family traveled together to Disney World, Riviera Maya, Mexico and Jamaica twice. On these family trips she would encourage the family to eat together, take excursions together and just be together.
Debra Clay received her Missionary license and served as the Local, District, and was later appointed as the Jurisdictional Missionary Circle President by Supervisor Bertha Washington.
On April 16, 1995 her heart was stolen by Jordan Michal Rogers, the love of her life. Jordan was born two months premature and his Buddy, as she was affectionately called by him, prayed him to health and would later play basketball with her big strong grandson.
After receiving her International Evangelist License in 2002, she traveled extensively with the commitment to reaching others in prophecy, evangelism, preaching, and teaching God’s word. Her favorite scripture, Habakkuk 2:2 “Write the vision, and make it plain upon table, that he my run that readeth it.” She shared a platform with countless mighty women of God including Karen Clark Sheard and Ruby Holland Hutchins. Evangelist Clay loved to invite everyone to experience her power packed revivals, often taking groups of 10 or more people and on many occasions incurring the cost herself. During these Spirit filled missions, she always made time to shop for shoes, clothes and of course go out for coffee. She loved to laugh with her daughters and grandson. They would sit at the table and laugh about Buddy fussing at Chelli and Deion during the service that night.
In 2010, Evangelist Clay was appointed to the position of District Missionary of the AGAPE District. In December 2012, she was appointed as Pastor of St. John Church of God in Christ and installed in January 2013 by Bishop Roosevelt Dunn. She was a leader with vision that lived an exemplary life; lead by example and encouraged others to live up to their full potential in Christ. Beginning with five members, St. John has grown in leaps and bounds and depending and trusting in God for further growth in the years to come. Pastor Clay is known throughout the world for recognizing the values in people; developing leadership and stirring up the gifts in people from all stations in life, without regard to status, to carry out God’s divine will and His purpose for their lives. Her relationship with God is alive and engaged; personal, yet very public. Pastor Clay did not have “office hours”, whenever she was called, she was there. She would go to the hospital, court, nursing home, jail, anywhere she was called to be she went even when she was not feeling her best and often at the last minute and even in the wee hours of the morning. She was everyone’s mother, grandmother, psychologist, counselor, comforter, pastor and the ONE who was called to get a prayer through!
Pastor Clay was preceded in death by her Father, Bishop Lee A. Jordan, Mother, District Missionary Odessa M. Jordan, Brothers, Chester (Willett) Jordan and Ronald Jordan. She leaves to cherish her amazing legacy her husband of 50 years, Deacon Clifton Clay, her devoted beautiful daughters; Missionary Traci Rogers, Missionary Chelli Clay, and Missionary Deion Clay, her one Son-in-Love, Elder Michael Rogers; two grandsons, Minister Jordan Rogers, who was the love of her life, and grandson Steven Unga Jr., daughter Elita (Pastor Bryan) Hester, 3 Sisters, Rita Williams, Vernetta (Melvin) Reed, Terri (Danny) Winston, and Sister-in-Love Mother Debra (James) Efferson, her special niece Ronnika (Lynn) Pittman, Godchildren, Annette (Minister Sebastain) Davis, Aleshia (Elder Otis) Davis, Marquita Parrow, Marcus Jumper, Londyn Jackson, Tammy Carter, and David Johnson, Her Surrogate Sisters, Leona Masters, Sharon Scott, Tina Carter, and Ida Smith, her prayer partner Trudy Shephard, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her St. John’s Church family. Pastor Clay never met a stranger, the reach of her love, and span of her light is unmeasurable.

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Life Story

And yes…, he took plenty of pictures of his children growing up and kept newspaper articles on their achievements.
As he increased his expertise in photographer, he became the Imperial Director of Photography for the Shriners. He owned his business on Colfax for seven years and he had his own dark room to print all his photos. Walter has quite a collection of photo albums capturing family, community events and celebrities.
