Obituary Preview: Rebecca “Becky” Lynn Russell, 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 23, with her family by her side. The daughter of the late J. Herbert and Mary M. (Marquette) Thompson, Becky grew up in Calcutta attending Calcutta School, East Junior High, and was very proud to tell everyone that she was in the FIRST graduating class of Beaver Local, the class of 1959.

In 1960, she married the love of her life, James H. Russell. They lived in Wellsville for the first 20 years of their 62-year marriage. Becky was a member of The Wellsville Firemen’s Ladies’ Auxiliary, The Friendship Eight card club, which she continued to be a part of, and in later years joined the “Country” card club. In 1980, Becky and Jim moved back to Calcutta not far from her childhood home.

Throughout the years, Becky worked in her family owned businesses. She started by making popsicles at Vernon Dell Dairy, where she was also a secretary. She worked alongside Jim as owner/manager of Russell’s Mini Marts. She also was a server at Adrian’s Banquet Center, as well as serving breakfast for Calcutta Rotary for many years at Adrian’s. The job she loved the most was her role as Gram to her 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Becky was a lifelong member of Calcutta United Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a trustee, an elder, and the treasurer and was a member of the choir and Women’s Missionary Association. In recent years, she attended Northside Church.

Becky spent many years bowling in the Christian Women’s League. She was a charter member of TOPS 1341. She also enjoyed, at one time, knitting afghans for her family and friends.

Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 2022; her parents, Herb and Mary, her stepmothers, Virginia and Jacqueline Thompson, parents-in-law, Ral and Mary Russell, and nephew Brian Russell.

She is survived by her daughters: Mary Virginia “Ginny” (Scott) Chamberlain and Betsy Lynn (Andy) Kithas, and her son, Rodney James (Melissa) Russell; as well as grandchildren: Brittany Russell Miller (Tim Walsh), Rachel Chamberlain (Toby) Mattern, Ashley Russell (RJ) Smith, Lauren Kithas, Matthew Chamberlain (Bianca Brown), Jimmy Russell, and Tyler Kithas (Tricia Panos); and great-grandchildren: Landon and Easton Miller, Whitnee Jones, and Brandon and Kali Smith; Becky’s siblings: Dorothy “Dottie ” Pike, Jerry (Freda) Thompson and Candy (Mike) Solterbeck, and brother-in-law, Jerry (Helen) Russell; and her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and her special friends Soni and Jamie Livolsi and Denny Miller.

The family would like to thank the Heritage Valley of Beaver Interventional Radiology team and Buckeye Hospice and Palliative Care for their loving care.

Visitation will be held at The Martin Chapel of Care Funeral & Cremation Specialists in Calcutta on Sunday, April 28 from 12:00-6:00 and one hour prior to the service celebrating Becky’s life on Monday, April 29 at 11:00 with Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Church officiating.

Obituary Preview: Scott P. Beadle,66, affectionately known as Grizz, passed away on May 1, 2024 at his home in West Point. He was born on December 5, 1957, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Patrick and Sally (McCauley) Beadle. He graduated from East Liverpool High School with the Class of 1976. Grizz lived a fulfilling life and touched the hearts of many during his time on earth.

Grizz dedicated eight years of his life to serving his country as a Flight Line Diesel Mechanic in the U.S. Air Force, starting in 1978 until his retirement in 1986. His commitment and skills were admired by his colleagues and superiors alike.

Outside of his military service, Grizz found joy in being an Eagle Scout Leader, mentoring and guiding young scouts on their journey. His leadership and passion for scouting left a lasting impact on those he interacted with.

Grizz is survived by his loving children: Scott Beadle II, of Wellsville, Jordan (Courtney) Beadle, of Boardman, Brandon "Boo" (Jessica) Beadle, of Rochester, James Dillon (Rebecca) Beadle, of Boardman, and Kristen (Scott) Whaling, of Rochester. He also leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren whom he loved with his entire heart: Hailey, Alyssa, Helayna, Alexia, Lainey, Avery, Abbey, Kaleb, Madelyn, D.J., and Olivia. He is also survived by his sister, Susan English, of West Point, and his two dogs, whom he loved, Leo and Nash. Grizz also leaves behind his best friend, Steven Joy, and the mother of his children, Eva Binder.

Along with his parents, Grizz was preceded in death by his two sisters: Luanne Beadle and Lisa Rudibaugh.

With a kind heart and unwavering dedication to his family, Grizz will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love and wisdom he shared with all who had the privilege to know him. A private family service will be held by the family.

Bill attended Hammondsville High School and built a long and dedicated career in Maintenance at Penn Power. His hard work and commitment were well respected by his colleagues and friends.

Bill married his soulmate, Cecilia “Punk” Pigott Farnsworth, on March 3, 1966, and they spent the next 58 years building a family and making special memories together.

Bill had a passion for hunting. He spent as much time in the woods as possible, always looking for that big deer. He was a lifetime member of the Tri-State Coon Club. He was also a lifetime member of Moose Lodge #122 in East Liverpool. He also enjoyed golfing with his uncle and friends.

Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Barb Farnsworth.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife Punk. He also leaves behind two loving children: Bill (Hillary) Farnsworth of Statesville, NC, and Tina (T.J.) Alonzo of Tampa, FL; three cherished granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Bill is also survived by two sisters, Ellen Potts and Sue Lightfoot; three brothers, Roger (Barb) Blackburn, Ted Blackburn, and Jerry (Rosie) Blackburn; and his uncle, George (Darlene) Board. He also leaves behind many special friends.

Private services will be held by the family. Bill will be laid to rest in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Obituary Preview: Zella A. Black passed away at Mercy Health in Boardman on May 7, 2024 following a short illness. She was 91.

Born in Chester, W.Va. Aug. 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ethel Mae (Brewer) Robinson. She was a graduate of Chester High School in 1951.

Zella met the love of her life when her brother brought his best friend home on leave from the Army. He was a farm boy from Iowa and would later become her best friend and husband Arnold. They were married on Dec. 7, 1952.

Zella was a member of the Chester Church of the Nazarene, where she and Arnold held offices and were builders of the parsonage and church community. Zella organized and held dinners with celebrations at the church. Later they became members of the East Liverpool Church of the Nazarene.

Zella received her life experience degree in love and passion as she raised her three children. Eddie was her “favorite”. He was a special needs child that lived with her for 55 years. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics and family picnics. She enjoyed visiting area nursing homes sharing her stories and making new friends. She lived near Crossroads Assisted Living where she became very close to Steve, Snook and the boys. She adopted them as her second family. Eventually she became a resident at Crossroads and found an entire community to expand her family. They won her heart and spoiled her. Zella is now in her new heavenly home with her husband and son.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Black and her son Eddie. She was also preceded by three brothers Virgil, Donald and Cecil Lee Robinson and four sisters Belva Morris, Grace, Mabel and Edna Robinson and a granddaughter, Jennifer Roach.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Gregg) Householder, Debbie (Randy) Wilson, both of East Liverpool. There are two grandchildren, Missy Davis and Dan Wilson. There are seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Preston and Izabella Ward, Michael and Ryan Davis, Brody and Cooper Wilson. There are two great-great-grandchildren, David Mellinger IV and Jaxson Ward.

Pastor Bob Sylvies will conduct services at the chapel in Columbiana County Memorial Park on Friday, May 17 at 2 p.m.
