Obituary Preview: Patrick Joseph Brennan, 71, of Springfield, died at 7:04 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Patrick was born to John Patrick Brennan and Bernadine Elvira Sharp on March 27, 1952, in Springfield. He was happily married to his wife, Janet Marie Kremitzki on March 13, 1981. They recently celebrated a wonderful 42 years of marriage this past Spring.

After graduating from Griffin High School in 1970, Patrick attended Springfield College in Illinois and the University of Louisville. He worked at the Illinois State Board of Education as a Record Coordinator, consulting for private businesses and vocational schools for 40 years. Known as "Big Dawg" amongst the staff, Patrick could often be found entertaining the warehouse crew. Patrick was heavily involved in Central Illinois sports, acting as a licensed official for over 25 years. For Patrick, local sports were always a personal hobby, channeling his passion for baseball, softball, and basketball into a connection with the community at large. Officiating on a local level allowed Patrick to work in Cooperstown Dreams Park and develop lifelong friendships with his officiant colleagues.

Patrick made a friend out of every stranger he met, chatting over his favorite glass of bourbon. Along with his wife, Janet, they enjoyed surrounding themselves with fellow wine connoisseurs and travel partners. Patrick was an avid collector of sports memorabilia, becoming the premier owner of championship rings, vintage jerseys, and baseball cards. Unable to turn down a home-improvement project, Patrick often found himself working with family and friends to get the job done. He was a steadfast supporter of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and St. Louis Blues hockey, always watching the game from his favorite spots around Springfield. Proud ‘Papa’ to William, Eden, and Jameson, he was a constant at their many sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Michael Brennan; and sister, Karin Rehs.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Brennan of Springfield; three children, Dugan Brennan of Springfield, Lauren (Sean) Flynn of Springfield, and Nolan Brennan of Charlottesville, VA; three grandchildren, William, Eden, and Jameson; five siblings, Theresa Brennan, Terrance Brennan, Katie (Phil) Daniels, Elizabeth "Ebie" (Tom) Gasperin, and Mary Kim (James) Owens; sister-in-law Martha Brennan and brother-in-law Pete Rehs; a big family of nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Carlton.

The Brennan Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home in Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service followed by words of remembrance by family.

The family will host a Celebration of Life from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Venue 1929, 711 S. 5th St, Springfield.

Obituary Preview: Samuel Nudo, 67, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at his home in Springfield.

Samuel was born on December 26, 1956, son of Alexander Samuel and Wanda Mary Keyeski Nudo.

He attended Blessed Sacrament, followed by Griffin High School, and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in business. For most of his life, he was devoted to his career as an owner and president of his local family business, Nudo Products. In his early life, he acquired his pilot’s license and had a passion for flying planes. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, and traveling with his family. He was a wonderful father with a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Samuel is survived by his children, Alexander (Abby) Nudo, Adam Nudo, and Natalie Nudo; grandchildren, Bianca Nudo and Vincent Nudo; wife, Stephanie Williams; siblings, Gerald Lee Nudo of Chicago, and Thomas (Denise) of Springfield; former spouse, Angela Nudo; sister-in-law, Svetlana Nudo; nieces and nephews, Samantha, Timmy, Tate, Whitney; and many cousins.

Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Paul’s Paradise at Paul’s Tree Farms, 12430 State Route 125, Pleasant Plains, IL.  Remembrances will be shared at 5:00 p.m.

A private family graveside ceremony will be held.

Joe was born on October 4, 1929, in Springfield, the son of Harry Grant and Honora “Noni” (Bowe) Owens. He married Joann Louise Glossop on September 9, 1956, in Springfield; she preceded him in death.

Joe was a 1948 graduate of Virden High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Joe then worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for nearly 40 years. He was a TRN Club life member and enjoyed golfing and traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Tunica with his wife.

Joe was also preceded in death by his daughter, JoEllen “Jody” Roth; his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.

Joe is survived by his son, James (wife, Kim) Owens of Springfield; son-in-law, Tom Roth of Pleasant Plains; two grandchildren, Ryan (wife, Holly) Owens of Columbia, MO, and Jessica (wife, Marisa) Roth of Riverton, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

She worked as a Nurse Practitioner at the Springfield Clinic Women’s Health. She previously worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Memorial Medical Center. Mary Agnes enjoyed quilting, playing the harp, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Mary Grace Parrini; brother-in-law: Edward Wellman Jr.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Albers of Springfield; four children, Sarah Albers of Springfield, Emily (husband, Christopher) Daniels of Carmel, IN, Katherine Albers of Seattle, WA, and James “Alex” Albers of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Aidan Flynn, Ian Carroll, Alexander and Maxwell Daniels; five siblings, George L. Jack E. DeWitt - June 09, 1932 - September 01, 2023

Obituary Preview: Jack E. DeWitt, 91, of Springfield, died at 2:40 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Jack was born June 9, 1932, in Beardstown, IL, the son of Sidney Calvin and Stella Anita Mikesell DeWitt. He married Pauline F. Howe on October 31, 1953, in Beardstown, IL; she preceded him in death on January 20, 2019.

Jack graduated from Beardstown High School in 1950 and earned his bachelor of science in electronics engineering from Indiana Technical College in 1957. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War for four years; enlisting on January 1, 1951 in St. Louis, MO. Jack finished up his nine weeks of boot camp in San Diego and then went to a U.S. Naval facility in Alameda, CA. He stayed there a short time before he moved to the Communications building because of his typing skills. After six months of schooling, Jack was moved to a Telemann Class A School in San Diego. He finished his training and was assigned to the U.S.S. Kenneth Whiting AV-14 where he traveled from San Diego to Bremerton, WA. He later traveled to Pearl Harbor and many stops in Japan and the Philippines.

He was employed with General Dynamics in CA and then later for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation until his retirement in traffic safety where he won many awards. Jack loved spending time with his wife and family, anything space or NASA related, watching sports, and going to Disney.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, David Tolbert; sisters, Joyce, Dorothy, Maxine, and Irene; and brothers, Tom and Sid.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Paula Tolbert of Springfield; son, Sam (Wendy Vitolo) DeWitt of East Hampton, NY; and granddaughter, Carrie Tolbert of Springfield.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Family will host a graveside ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.

Liz was born on January 6, 1960, at St. Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel Robert and Shirley Ann Reid.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Passavant School of Nursing, and St. Francis College. Liz also attended the National Louis University in Chicago, where she earned a professional education license that was endorsed by the Illinois State Board of Education. Liz was employed at Memorial Medical Center, Doctor’s Hospital, and the Springfield School District 186. She loved Florida and spent many holidays in Lauderdale by the Sea with her beloved daughters, Kathleen and Sarah.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Robert Reid. She is survived by her mother, Shirley Ann Reid; brother, John (Denise) Reid; and sisters, Ann (Tony) Libri and Sarah (Brian) Beeman. The core and center of Liz’s life were her beloved daughters, Kathleen Anne (Cody Dozier) Toomey and Sarah Elizabeth (Mike Zemlachenko) Toomey. She loved them to the moon and back!

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial Gathering and Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, September, 7, 2023 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave, Springfield. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Daniel J. Bergbower, celebrant.

Private family burial will take place at a later date.

Carolyn was born November 5, 1934, in Springfield, the daughter of John and Mabel Andrews Guy. She married A. William Rechner in 1953; they later divorced. She married Jack Fisherkeller on January 20, 1990 in Springfield and he preceded her in death in 2017.

Carolyn was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Blessed Sacrament Altar and Rosary Society and the St. Louise de Marillac Society. She was a coordinator and caregiver for St. John’s Third Age Living, volunteered at the Brinkerhoff House, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and Hope School. Carolyn served as the secretary of the Griffin Athletic Booster Club and various youth sport activities. Carolyn was an administrative assistant for the Illinois Secretary of State, retiring in 2000 after 23 years. She was a master bridge enthusiast and also enjoyed gardening, traveling, SHOPPING, decorating, and most of all laughing and giving hugs. Carolyn was a generous, caring and fun-loving person, who never met a stranger, and dearly loved her family…. GO CUBS GO! As a Moscato lover, tip a glass in Carolyn’s honor during cocktail hour.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Charlene Carraro; and brothers, John and Jere Guy.

She is survived by three sons, Keith (Tammy) Rechner of Springfield, Kent Rechner of Maitland, FL, and Kurt (Melani) Rechner of Austin, TX; daughter, Karen (Dan) Kirby of Springfield; bonus children, Stephen Fisherkeller, Thomas (Lyne), Fisherkeller, Robert (Linda) Fisherkeller of Hurst, TX, David (Theresa) Fisherkeller of Clearwater, FL and Joseph Fisherkeller of CA, Ann (Dick) Borders of Decatur, Mary (Tom) Conway and Jane Anders, both of Springfield; 25 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Concordia Lutheran Village, 4101 West Iles Ave, Springfield, IL. A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Jeff Harter and Fr. Jeff Grant co-officiating.

Donald "Don" Zumwalt - July 14, 1942 - August 28, 2023

Obituary Preview: Donald “Don” Zumwalt, 81, of Springfield, died at 12:27 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at his home.

He was born on July 14, 1942, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Richard and Opal Campbell Zumwalt.

Don proudly served in the United States Air Force. In his teenage years, Don started working for Kresge (Kmart), where he would work his entire career, retiring as an assistant store manager. During retirement, Don went on to work as a Bailiff for Sangamon County. He attended St. James Catholic Church in Riverton, and also volunteered his time with the Scout troop #46 of Riverton and Toys for Tots. Don was a proud member of the NRA and his love of shooting guns was passed down to his son, Ron. As an Eagle Scout, Don’s love of the outdoors included camping, boating, and fishing. Don enjoyed his annual trips to the Oshkosh airshow with his brother-in-law, Jim. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, college sports, and listening to his police scanner with his dog by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Olson.

He is survived by his two sons, Ron Zumwalt of Springfield and Dave Zumwalt of Riverton; grandchildren, Kayla and Noah Zumwalt; brother, Richard (wife, Anita) Zumwalt of AZ; brother-in-law, Jim Olson of MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation care was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield with Chaplain Scott Nichols officiating.

James "Jim" R. Morris - January 23, 1936 - August 28, 2023

Obituary Preview: It was hard not to love Jim Morris.

James R. Morris, of Springfield, died at the age of 87 on Monday, August 28, 2023, at 6:35 p.m. at the Bridge Care Suites—peacefully and surrounded by people who loved him.

Jim, as he was better known, was born on January 23, 1936, in Quincy, the youngest son of Charles and Ruth Schullian Morris. He married Mary "Susan" Eck on October 11, 1958, in Springfield. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2017, and together, they shared a lifetime of love and laughter.

Sue and Jim created a loving home that welcomed all—they spent countless evenings with family and friends, seated around a roaring fireplace (and sharing a bowl of Jim’s “secret-recipe” popcorn) or hosting regional clergy members in their dining room.

Jim was a lover of trivia and of wholesome mischief. He loved to sing and tell long-winded jokes, and didn’t mind donning a tutu if a CFC skit called for it. While he was a fierce competitor in sports, he also fiercely advocated for peace and justice in the world. He was an ardent birdwatcher, but he was also a fan of the great indoors, religiously watching his favorite teams play.

Jim had a very rational and scientific approach to life, having the good sense to suffer an otherwise fatal heart attack 10 steps away from an AED device and with medical professionals nearby, which gained him an additional 12 years of life.

Jim was a graduate of St. Francis Grade School and Notre Dame High School, both in his hometown of Quincy, IL. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, and was an exceptional athlete. Jim was selected All-State Football, All-Catholic All-American in football and basketball, and he still holds the College World Series record for highest batting average (.714), a feat achieved at the 1957 CWS while playing for University of Notre Dame.

In his life, Jim always worked to make his world and the world around him—both near and far—a better place. He taught at Cathedral Boys/Griffin High School and in the Springfield Public School System. For 30 years, he worked in data processing for the IL Department of Mental Health. He wrote an annual February letter, sent out to console and encourage everyone who suffered the effects of a long winter. Sue and Jim both served on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Springfield during the five years after its founding, developing a lasting legacy of compassion and service for the community.

Jim was a very active member of the Church of the Little Flower, where he was the Director of Religious Education and served on the RCIA team for more than 25 years.

In 1976, Jim and Sue founded the Koinonia weekend retreat program and served as its international coordinators. Koinonia has served more than 50,000 people in 29 states and 3 foreign countries. In addition, they provided retreats for individuals, couples and groups in a 3-state area for more than 25 years. Together, Jim and Sue organized eight pilgrimages to the Holy Land to promote peace and understanding.

As a couple, Jim and Sue were honored with the Spirit of St. Francis Award by St. Francis College in Joliet as the Outstanding Catholic Layperson(s) of the year in 1991. In 2009, they received the Pax Joliet Award as a couple for their work in peace and justice. Sue was a constant inspiration to Jim: as he put it, she was the most selfless person he ever met.

Jim Morris was a natural performer: in sports, singing, and storytelling. He was also one of the most loving people we've ever known, who believed that universal, unconditional love was the ultimate truth. His belief in an all-loving God showed in his eyes to the end. He will be dearly missed.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Earl, Paul, and Robert Morris.

He is survived by his two sons, Chuck (Rose Frantzen) of Maquoketa, IA and Mike (Mimi) of Sacramento, CA; four daughters, Marie (Tim) Gabrielsen of Tucson, AZ, Cathy (Dominic Ricci) Priest of Wilmette, IL, Theresa (Gerry) Connolly St. Louis, MO, and Sarah (Nick) Allen of Springfield; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and another on the way; two sisters, Marg Andrews and Rose (Tom) Gott of Quincy, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at the Church of the Little Flower, 800 Adlai Stevenson Drive, Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Church of the Little Flower with Rev. Al Kemme, celebrant. Private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Sister Mary Angelita Nickele, OP - August 14, 1922 - August 27, 2023

Obituary Preview: Springfield Dominican Sister M. Angelita Nickele died on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in Chicago in 1922 to Angelo and Angela (Nee Nichele) Nickele and baptized Josephine Mary at Holy Rosary Church there. She made her profession of vows in 1949 at Sacred Heart Convent.

Early in her religious life Sister M. Angelita taught primary and middle grades at schools in Springfield, Evergreen Park, Bradley, and Chicago, IL., and in Duluth, MN., spending many years at St. Joseph, Bradley. After a five-year leave to care for her ailing mother, she returned to ministry as a tutor and librarian at St. Christina School, 1987-1999, and then at St. Edward School, 1999-2004. She retired to Sacred Heart Convent in 2004.

Sister M. Angelita was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, John and Sam Nickele. She is survived by her brother, Albert (Joan) Nickele of Hot Springs, AR., formerly of Chicago; her loving nieces, nephews, cousins, many faithful friends, and her Dominican Sisters.

Visitors are welcome; Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Friday September 1, 2023, Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield, IL 62704. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanna; sister, Karen (Preckwinkle) Lawless, both of Springfield; daughters, Amy Shepherd of Nashville and Sarah (Daton) Kaisner of Springfield; son, James (Emily) Preckwinkle of Springfield; grandchildren, Ian Kaisner, Wesley Preckwinkle, Gracie Kaisner, Elliot Kaisner and Molly Preckwinkle; nephew, Ryan (Colleen) Lawless and their daughters, Sydney and Reese; and numerous cousins.

Steven graduated from Springfield Southeast High School and Sangamon State University. He served in the Illinois National Guard and began his career with AFSCME as a union organizer and legislative director, finishing his career with the Illinois Federation of Teachers as the political director. A few of his most favorite things included music, great food, fine wine, and traveling with family and friends. He was very proud of his grandkids and loved nothing more than spending time with them and his family.

A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will host a Celebration of Life from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, upstairs at Arlington’s.

Movie and game trivia and video games were also activities he enjoyed as well as his job at Ross Dress for Less. He was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest soul, who always had a smile on his face and brought so much joy to all that knew him. Logan cherished his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them whether they were sharing meals, playing games, camping, or just visiting. He always took the time to give you a hug and share a conversation, genuinely interested in what was going on with others. He was the most beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend who will live in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Emily Claire Jeffries.

He is survived by his mom and stepdad, Kimberly and Tom Lawrence; grandparents, William and Nancy Jeffries; brother, Max Jeffries; stepbrother, Beau Lawrence, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Private family ceremonies will be held at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield on September 6th, 2023, followed by a Celebration of Life on September 9, 2023.

Betty worked for Pillsbury Mills for 8 years and then went on to be a private duty nurse’s aide. Very active in her faith, she attended St. Agnes Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; grandson, Timothy Jon Wessing II; and siblings, Evelyn, Adeline, Wanda, Gladys, James, and Jack.

She is survived; sons, Stephen (Dana) Wessing of Yelm, WA, Timothy (Connie) Wessing of Pittsfield, IL, Paul (Kelly) Wessing of Farmersville, IL, Kenneth Wessing, Jr. of Chatham, and James Wessing of Springfield; daughters, Betty Sue (Allen) Roberts of Farmersville and Linda (William) Neal of Riverton; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Springfield Dominican Sister Marianne Nolan, once known as Sister Anne Patrick, died August 12, 2023, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in 1929, in Oak Park, IL, to Patrick and Anne (Nee McDonough) Nolan. She was baptized Marianne at St. Lucy Church, Chicago. She made her profession of vows in 1949 at Sacred Heart Convent.

During the early years of her religious life, Sister Marianne taught primary grades in Northern Illinois including at Cary, Crystal Lake, and Chicago. She was one of the founding teachers at St. Lawrence O’Toole, Matteson, IL and then at St. Kevin, East Alton, IL, where she was principal. In 1970, Sister Marianne completed a masters of religious education at Providence College before returning to Springfield. There, for 13 years, she oversaw the formation of women preparing for vowed religious life. After completing that influential role for the congregation, Sister Marianne entered a new period of ministry, providing religious education and evangelization for children and adults in Arcola, Sauk Village, Sainte Marie, and Decatur. During later years at Holy Family Parish, Decatur, she served as adult education coordinator and provided a ministry of care for those who were ill or confined to their homes in Decatur and Mt. Zion. Sister Marianne moved to Sacred Heart Convent in 2010, where she delighted in keeping up with the latest in theology and spirituality and staying engaged with community events.

Sister Marianne was preceded in death by her infant brother, John; her parents; and her brother, Joseph. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Martha), of Madison, WI; her beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; their families; and her Dominican Sisters.

She was born on August 3, 1934, in Peoria, Illinois. Barb was the daughter of Charles B. and Florence H. (Shade) Ginocchio. She married Robert L. Gard (who survives her) on April 7, 1956, and was blessed to enjoy 67 years with the love of her life.

Barb is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Kunkel of Belvidere, Illinois, and Karen (Randy) Cook of Chatham, Illinois. The lights of her life were her four grandchildren, Tiffany (Jake) Johnkoski of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Dakota (Kaitlyn) Cook of Chatham, Illinois, Hailey Cook of Springfield, Illinois and Brody Cook of Fenton, Missouri. Barb’s grandchildren adored her and fondly called her Gram Cracker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles, and Florence; one brother, Joseph Ginocchio; and her beloved dog, Cindy Ann.

Barb was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority at Bradley University. She retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1989 after 18 years of service, last working as a division manager’s secretary. She often talked about how much she loved her job. Barb was a former member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington, Illinois prior to her move two years ago to be closer to her daughter in Springfield, Illinois.

Barb loved being with her family more than anything, and they gave her immense joy. She was the quintessential homemaker. Barb loved to try new recipes, and she was often found on the internet reading recipes, especially Southern Home recipes. She took considerable pride in taking care of her family and providing the best home cooked meals on the planet. It was quite common for people to ask for her recipe after enjoying a meal or dessert at her house.

A private service was held on August 12th. A Celebration of Life for family and friends (lunch provided) will be held on August 19th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fairview Farms in Bartonville, Illinois.

Memorials may be made in Barb’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Cassie was born October 12, 1962, in Manhattan, KS, the daughter of Neal and Judith Hurd Foland. She grew up in Carbondale, IL. While working at McDonalds she met David Burnett whom she married on June 30, 1984.

As she raised three young children, Cassie got her second degree and worked for many years as a 5th grade teacher at DuBois Elementary School where she made a difference to countless children. If you were ever a student of hers, please know you meant a lot to her.

Cassie spent years giving back to her community and raising money for breast cancer research and treatments. She completed 5 60-mile Susan G Komen walks all over the country and helped organize the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides walk for many years. She spent a decade as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of King’s Daughters where she volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels. She also organized huge annual yard sales that raised thousands of dollars for cancer research.

Cassie and David’s home is filled with plants and surrounded by flowers. She loved tending to and collecting beautiful house plants. She also loved to travel and lived in Beirut, Lebanon for a year where she visited several countries in the Middle East and developed a life-long fondness for Lebanese food. She travelled throughout Europe, Greece, Cyprus, and Japan as well as many places back home from Hawaii to Alaska.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and she and David went to many games over the years. She loved to bake and try new recipes and especially loved cooking for big family gatherings. Above all else she loved spending time with her family, playing games, telling stories, and laughing.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Judy.

Cassie is survived by her husband, David Burnett of Springfield; her children, Sarah (Dan) Schoenig of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Emily) Burnett of Orlando, FL, and Jack (Nicole) Burnett of Flagstaff, AZ; grandchildren, Theo, Danny, and Ellie; father, Neal Foland; siblings, Debbie, Kim, Tad, Tracie, and Cheryl; and many nieces and nephews.

Private family ceremonies will be held at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15th at Panther Creek Country Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Susan G Komen for the Cure, or the Springfield Public School Foundation.
