But as anyone who knew him knows, Larry’s true passion was music. His love for the art spanned the full gamut. In his younger days he was widely considered one of the most talented local guitarists, and he forever cherished his days rocking in the band Von Laven. As he matured, his appreciation for the classical blossomed. In this later era, he developed his gift of composing and crafting several complex pieces, including melodies honoring his parents. The most moving of which was a heart-felt sonnet entitled The Last Rose, written for his dear mother. He was a master of all aspects of music, if it had pitch and tempo, he was all in.

Linda LeGendre - November 24, 1947 - October 05, 2023

Departed: 10/05/2023 (Red Hook)
Obituary Preview: Linda LeGendre, 75, of Red Hook, NY, died from the cumulative and multiple effects of the radiation she received for throat cancer twenty years ago. She passed away on October 5, 2023 in the loving arms of her friends and family. Though she could no longer swallow in the last months of her life, she endured this indignity with the same grace and stamina that characterized all her relationships and endeavors in the world.
Linda was known for her unique and torrential gift-giving to many, her photography of public and intimate moments, her gifted hands as a Nurse Practitioner and later master gardener, a calm and visionary leader of many community efforts, and a care-taker extraordinaire. She would not leave this world until she completed a gift to her granddaughter, weeded the flower beds, emailed the agenda, and got the three-course meal on the table.
She is survived by her daughter Amii, 54, (Red Hook, NY) and son Paul, 52 (Brooklyn, NY), her sisters Karen, Susan, and Nancy, many extended family members and her five grandchildren: Stellah, 18, Dahlia, 13, Rafa, 12, Ruby, 10, and Sasha, 8. In their own ways and in their bones, the grandchildren hold her legacy of world travel, photography, card playing, deep observation and care for the vulnerable.
Linda was born in Mansfield, MA to Raymond and Evelyn Guillette. Daughter of an optometrist, she became a nurse then Nurse Practitioner, working 30+ years at Family Medicine in South Attleboro, MA. She leaves behind many dear colleagues and patients from those years as well as a reputation for going above and beyond for many patients who considered her a friend and champion of their health.
At age 20, she married Ron LeGendre from the humble beginnings of a blind date. And though their relationship ended after 18 years of marriage, they found devoted friendship later in life as they supported each other through respective cancer treatments and inspired co-parenting.
Though all parenting has reciprocity, Linda truly sought out influence from Amii and Paul as they grew, just as she influenced them till her last day. Linda, Paul and Amii developed in each other a spirit of adventure as they traveled together to Russia, France, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Barbados, and Puerto Rico. From Amii’s career as a professional dancer, Linda developed her own art making and creative practice. From Paul’s work as an international aid worker, she developed a passion for organizational stewardship and activism. Learning and care passed in both directions with her children as it did with her dear friends and extended family. From this same mysterious pool of mutual learning and provocation, she is well-known for The Prompts–relentlessly posing deep questions for all to stew over together, providing a practice of intimacy-making that she was both deeply appreciated for and much teased about. She could always take it.
Her sisters were a constant support and beloved presence in her life. Susan was often geographically far away but held close. Older sister Karen incited Art! Beauty! World change! and was a loving inspiration and source of mutual care. Younger sister Nancy was a presence constantly woven through every chapter of her life in child rearing, mutual love of craftwork, witness to life’s daily travails. Linda will be missed dearly by her sisters.
In 2013, Linda moved to Red Hook NY to be closer to her children and grandchildren. There her interest in gardening blossomed and she became a master gardener; her garden was a wonder and a peaceful place to many, and she shared her knowledge generously. Even in her last days, fragile and wobbly, she could be found weeding or watching the butterflies in her pollinator garden.
Linda was part of a writing group for a decade through a cancer survivors network and found her writing voice through weekly gatherings with this cherished group (more prompts!). She served on the Board of the Tivoli Library and was a part of Red Hook Together. She was active in the Life Long Learning Institute at Bard (LLI) and in the last few years became the Chair of the Curriculum Committee. She was part of a team of LLI members who implemented a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policy for LLI. Some of her last and proudest work was uplifting the mission of the justice team in curriculum and community development.
She will be remembered by her avid walking at a pace few could keep up with, her commitment to care and service, and her boundless love for her family and friends. May we feel the legacy of Linda’s commitment to witnessing so many with such dignity, and to lifting others up so they might feel their deepest capacity for this world. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Christ Church of Red Hook on Saturday October 14 at 2pm, followed by a reception. All who knew her are welcome. [7423 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY] Those wishing to gather with her Massachusetts family and friends can attend a service on November 4 at 2pm, at Murray Unitarian Universalist Church, 505 North Main Street, Attleboro. A reception will follow. The service will be preceded by visitation from 1-2pm, at which time those who wish can offer condolences and share memories of Linda with family members

Mary T Danna - July 08, 1936 - September 20, 2023

Departed: 09/20/2023 (Red Hook)
Obituary Preview: Mary T. Danna, age 87, departed this life on September 20, 2023 and is now with her family and friends who predeceased her. “At rest” would not be how mom would want to be described, but rather, “out catching up with family and friends”. “Mary”, “Mom”, “Gram”, “Auntie M”, and “Mare” are some of the ways she was affectionately addressed by those who knew and loved her.
Mom was a lot of fun and, we believe, the first to introduce the term, “FOMO”. She was a great cook, loved to play games, listened to country music (Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, and Hank Williams), adored her family and friends, and had a deep Catholic faith. Mom’s measures of success were through her children, and her love and understanding persevered to her final days. Friendships that endured over her lifetime speak to her unconditional love and kindness she bestowed on others. Mary Danna graced people’s lives in a special way, and she will be missed. She joins her pre-deceased relatives, including her dearest daughter, Susan; parents- Henry and Mary: her sister and brother in-law Barbara and Rudy Friedel; and many other relations. Mary is also reunited with her former husband, Carl, in-laws, and all her dear friends.
Mary is survived by her five children (and spouses), Stephen (Laura) Danna, Janice (Charlie) Zumpano, Laura (Chris) Munisteri, Peter (Dee) Danna, and Kristen (Sean) Murphy; her ten grandchildren Nicole, Danielle, Lori, Maggie, Christine, Sean, Stephen, Hayley, Callie, and Alex; and her partner of 50 years, Bill Von Blomberg; along with extended family and friends.
Mary was a longtime communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 29th, 2023 at 11AM at St. Christopher’s Church, 7411 South Broadway, Red Hook, NY. Interment will be private.
Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the St. Christopher's Church, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY 12571.
