Obituary Preview: Marguerite “Mag” F. Green, 96, of Forreston, IL passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Parkview Nursing Home in Freeport.

Mag was born on April 17, 1927 in Forreston the daughter of Henry and Luella (VanRaden) Kampen. She attended three years at Forreston Grade School, five years at Cedar Bluff Country School and finished at Forreston High School graduating in 1945. Mag then attended Brown's Business College in Freeport. After school she married Paul Simler on May 23, 1947. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1987. Mag married William Green on January 1, 1990. He preceded her in death also. She was the first lady bus driver and first lady rural mail carrier in Forreston. Mag was a lifelong member of Forreston Reformed Church, a member of Young People’s Club and a Sunday School Teacher at her church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, crocheting and volunteering. Mag’s pie received blue ribbons at Old Settlers Days in Lanark.

Mag is survived by her two sons, Douglas Simler of Machesney Park, Derf (Andrea) Simler of Kankakee; one daughter, Holly Jacobs of Rockford, dear friend Jay Jacobs of Lanark; five grandchildren, Dan Bennett, Chris Bennett, Justin (Theresa) Jacobs, Josh Jacobs, Abigail Jacobs; four great-grandchildren, Kennedy Jacobs, Kyle, Dain and Hannah Bennett; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald; three sisters, Lillian, Burness, Phyllis and one daughter- in- law, Barb Simler.

Visitation will be 10:00am until time of Funeral Service at 11:00am on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Forreston Reformed Church with Reverend Doctor Lyle Zumdahl, officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery in Forreston, IL.

Obituary Preview: We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Keith “Andy” Anderson, 83 years old. Andy passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on May 4, 2023 after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Forreston, Illinois.

Andy was born May 10, 1939 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Kenneth and Velma (Butterbaugh) Anderson. He served in the US Army from 1957 to 1961 and was stationed at Camp Lariboisiere in Fontainebleau, France where he trained to be a diesel mechanic. While in Fontainebleau, Andy met Eileen Powell and they married on October 8, 1960.

After returning home from France, Andy worked for Mack Truck of Rockford for several years which sparked his desire to become a trucking Owner Operator. Andy later worked 22 years for Rowley Interstate. His regular route was from Dubuque, Iowa to New York City. In 1986, he received his own authority to operate in multiple states under the name of his company, Anderson Transportation, Inc. Throughout his career, Andy logged over 2.5 million miles, mostly in his beloved 1969 Peterbilt, “Miss Eileen”. In 1993, he retired from over-the-road driving to manage his company which expanded to a fleet of 30 trucks. More recently, Andy started another family business in 2006, The Depot-Mobil Gas Station of Forreston where he was extremely proud to contribute to the community. Andy’s reputation can be summed up by his belief, “I’ve always believed that if you really like doing something, you will put the extra effort into doing it well”.

He is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Velma Anderson and sister Gloria Schniepp. He is survived by his wife Eileen, son Wayne (Carol) Anderson, daughter Tracey Anderson and Grandchildren Kaitlyn (Brad) Barker and Andrew Anderson Birkholz along with his faithful dog, Daisy.

The family wishes to thank FHN Hospice, Mike, Cindy, Steph, and Dawn for the compassionate care they provided Andy.

Visitation will be held from 4pm to 7pm Friday, May 12, 2023, at Burke-Tubbs, Forreston. Funeral will be 11am Saturday, May 13, 2023 at First United Methodist Church Forreston.

Andy will be truly missed.

On October 20, 1984 he married Penny Kessler in Adeline, IL. Lyle was a member of Adeline Zion Evangelical Church. Coaching in Forreston was really important to Lyle, especially middle school football, which he coached from 2000-2016. He was also involved with the Forreston Athletic Program for 16 years. Lyle enjoyed playing golf and slow pitch softball. His greatest enjoyment in life was the time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Penny of Forreston; parents Dale and Leona Wilken of German Valley, IL; two sons Josh (Allyson) Wilken of German Valley, IL and Lucas (Stephanie) Wilken of Forreston, IL; daughter Rebekah (Corey Wagner ) Wilken of Tiffin, IA; brother Keith (Jan Reuber) of German Valley, IL; sister Beverly Wilken of German Valley, IL; five grandchildren Leon, Bryant, Isaiah, Addison, and Brooklyn; father and mother-in-law Stuart and Patricia Kessler of Mt. Morris, IL; two brother-in-law’s Dennis (Kerry) Kessler and Scott (Sherri Samsel) Kessler; and two nieces and two nephews.

He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his granddaughter Maya.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday May 9, 2023 at Adeline Zion Evangelical Church with Rev. Larry Jameson officiating. A visitation will be held Monday May 8, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Forreston. Burial will be in Adeline Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Forreston Athletic Boosters.

Leona married Edwin L. Beyer on January 18, 1975 in Freeport. Mr. Beyer passed away August 3, 2010. She and her husband, farmed around the Forreston area for many years. Leona was a member of German Valley United Methodist Church. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking. Surviving are her son, Kenneth (Charlotte) Beyer of Libertyville; stepson, Carlton (Vickie) Beyer of Shannon; two stepdaughters, Rebecca (Randy) Beyer and Bonnie Stanger both of Freeport; and one granddaughter, Lucille Beyer. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and stepdaughter, Rose Gray. Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday April 10, 2023 at German Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Gavin Brandt will officiate. Visitation 9:30am until the time of service at the church. Due to family health concerns, the family asks that masks be worn. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
