Linda D. Parker - February 13, 1945 - April 04, 2024

Departed: 04/04/2024 (Twining)
Obituary Preview: Linda Dale (York) Parker, age 79, passed away unexpectedly in Bay City, MI on April 4, 2024. She was born on February 13, 1945 in Lynchburg, Virginia to Dewey and Sadie (Starling) York. Linda grew up in Ortonville, MI. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1963 where she was crowned homecoming queen her senior year. On December 17, 1964, she married the love of her life, soulmate, and best friend, Jim Parker. She was crazy about him.
Linda was a stay-at-home mom and wife. She and Jim raised 8 children together. After her youngest children were old enough, she entered the workforce as a paraprofessional at Arenac Eastern for 10 years. After retiring from the school system, Linda and Jim, along with their daughter Jill, owned and operated B's Family Restaurant in Au Gres for 5 1/2 years. Linda's pies and cookies were her specialty. Everybody loved them. They sold faster than she could bake them.
Linda was a caretaker by nature. She cared for people her entire life. While raising her children, she always provided unconditional love and support. She was selfless beyond measure. Her husband, children, and grand children were her whole world. She lived for them.
You could often find Linda in her kitchen cooking or baking for her loved ones. This was a passion of hers and everything she made was prepared with love. There is nobody who could bake or cook better than Linda. Linda and Jim did everything together. One of their favorite past times was to look for prized treasures at garage sales.
Linda always had a hug for everyone. She welcomed everyone into her home with open arms. She touched the lives of so many people in deep meaningful ways. From the words of many, "She was like a second mom to me" or "Her home was my home away from home." This is a tribute to how loving, comforting, and nurturing she was.
Linda was a strong woman who had spunk and sass. This was one of the reasons she was such a joy to be around. She had a great sense of humor and could fill any room with laughter. Linda had nicknames for everyone. If she knew you and liked you, it was certain that she had a nickname for you. The world was a better a place with Linda in it. Linda is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Jim; children, Jimmy (Kellie) Parker, Denise (Bill) Wilson, Judy ( Ken) Glupker, Peggy (Tim) Nelson, Jenny, Melinda (Rich) Pemberton, Jack (Terah) Parker, Jill (Daren) Gordon; brothers John and Jeff, 33 grandchildren, and 8 great grand children. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Sharon and Ron, and grandson Brian Parker. Per Linda's wishes, cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.  Condolences and memories can be shared at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com

Obituary Preview: Ron was born November 30, 1950 to the late Edgar and Wilmetta (Hilliker) Shaffer. He went to be with his lord and savior on July 25, 2023. Ron’s mother introduced him to the love of his life, Ona (Murringer) Shaffer. They married on September 13, 1975 and together raised three children. Ron served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.  When he returned to the states he worked for Forwards and then Consumer’s Energy. Ron was a very hard-working man whether it be in his job or at home making life better for his family. Ron and Ona loved to do home improvement projects together and passing these skills to their children. He also loved to garden, craft, read and play with his grandchildren, even if it meant hours on the floor playing Polly Pockets. Ron also loved to travel with his family. On one vacation he was dub’d Jolly Ron and we were his happy campers. He took his family on several epic vacations including Disney, the upper peninsula, exploring all of the western states while also seeing family and finally the vacation of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand. Ron loved people and he loved to learn everything about other cultures. One of his known phrases was, “I’m just here to learn.” He was a very kind and loving man. He had a great sense of humor. He loved to say silly things like, “I haven’t had this much fun since the hogs ate my baby sister” or promising his teen children leather goods for Christmas, “a belt in the mouth and a boot in the butt”. This was something that he never delivered on. He was also very sentimental buying sweet holiday cards for his wife and children for EVERY occasion. He played Santa for the foster children in Iosco County. He was also often recognized as Santa by random children he met in his travels. When asked if he was Santa, he would reply simply with, “shh, I’m on vacation” he loved the way it made kids smile.
Ron was an amazing, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend. He taught us all so much about everything we needed to know to live a full and happy life and he is terribly missed already. Ronald is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Ona. His children Brandy, Jeremy, and Margie. His grandchildren Dale (Emily Lee) Schmidt, Anna (Hampton Steelman) Schmidt, Vivian (Brandon) Shaffer- Hill, and Haley (Joe Ayotte) Shaffer. One great grandchild on the way. His brother Ervin (Caroline) Shaffer. Sisters Brinda (Robert) Devault, Joann Gingerich, and Roxanna (Mike) Horrie. Sisters in law June Greve, Gloria Foust and Maryann Moore. Many nieces, nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers Albert and Lon. Brothers in law Glen Haas, Daniel Gingerich, Ferd Greve, and James Wheeler. Sisters in law Christine Shaffer, Connie Devault and Susan Russell. Nephew Nicholas Shaffer and niece Mabel Payne

What is the purpose of an obituary?

The primary purpose of an obituary is to share the news of a person's passing with others, allowing them to pay their respects, offer condolences, and celebrate the person's life. Obituaries also serve as a way to provide information about funeral services, memorial donations, and other details related to the deceased.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, an obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, although it can also be written by a funeral home or obituary writer. The writer should have personal knowledge of the deceased and be able to provide accurate and meaningful information about their life.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorial donations, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs. Online obituaries can be longer and more detailed than those published in newspapers.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, typically including only the most basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed and personalized tribute to the deceased, often including a biography and other relevant information.
