Stanley Melvin McVey - June 24, 1936 - April 22, 2024

Departed: 04/22/2024 (Oscoda)
Obituary Preview: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Melvin “Mac” McVey, on April 22nd, 2024, in Layton, Utah.
Mac was born on June 24, 1936, in Berkeley, California and was the second of three sons. He grew up in the farming community of Dinuba and developed his strong work ethic working in the grape vineyards and processing plants of the San Joaquin Valley.
After high school graduation, Mac joined the Air Force and met his sweetheart, Karin, when on tour in Germany. They were married on December 9, 1958, and enjoyed life together until she passed into the hands of her Savior in 2019. Mac was devoted to Karin then and is devoted to her now.
During his final years, Mac lived with his son, Stan, and daughter-in-law, Kim, in West Point, Utah during the winter season and returned to his home in Oscoda, Michigan to reduce the fish population in the summer months.
Mac loved to fish and would never pass up an opportunity to cast a line. He also enjoyed bowling, golf (most of the time), tinkering around the garage, and was an accomplished woodworker. When he could no longer physically enjoy these pastimes, his passion turned to giving. He gave more than just money; he gave his time, his mind, his love, and his spirit whenever he saw a need. He gave freely, never saying anything, never expecting anything, never wanting anything in return. The joy the recipient had was his joy as well; it would be safe to say his delight far exceeded that of the receiver. He was a living example of his beloved savior, Jesus Christ, and lived His words in Matthew 10:8 “…freely ye have received, freely give”. People familiar with Mac will also be aware of his strong political views, which will not be delved into here, and know that at times he could be, shall we say, rather enthusiastic about those views. This is some of what made him Mac.
In addition to his deep love of his family, he had a comparable love for his country. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. His tours of duty took him around the world, including Germany, Iceland, Morocco, Thailand, and Korea. He had several occupations while in the USAF, but the ones he talked about most were his time in Security Service and Command Post Controller. After retirement he continued to serve as a Real Property Specialist for Civil Service, finally retiring from formal work at Wurtsmith AFB, MI. Mac had a way of making people feel accepted and appreciated, and they loved him for it. He made friends everywhere he went and was remembered by people he only met briefly. Because of the man he was, he will be missed dearly by those he called friends and family. We can only accept his passing with the knowledge that this life is just a trial period and death is not the end. God has called him home to be with Him, Karin, and family. The rules of Heaven are unknown to us but certainly, if it were permitted, Mac would come to us and say “It’s ok. I’m good”!
Mac was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karin, who he loved and missed dearly, his mother Lucile Simpson, father Ira McVey, and brothers Wayne and Joe.
He is survived by the family he treasured beyond description; son Stan (Kim), his daughter Michele Buonodono (Joe), grandsons Mike McVey (Kelsea) and Tony Buonodono, and granddaughters Heather Kruitbosch (Tad), Emily Garcia (Michael), and Hannah Howell (Jacob). He was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren who he loved unconditionally: Brinnlee, Adyson, Brigham, Emmitt, Quinn, Sophia, Sam, Ella, Gideon, Sawyer, and Vienna. These people, in addition to his cherished Karin, were the passion of his existence.
We will celebrate Mac’s life at Buresh Funeral Home, 212 W. River Road in Oscoda, Michigan on May 3rd, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11 AM with Funeral Services to follow at 1 PM.

Jay "Martin" East - November 12, 1963 - April 04, 2024

Departed: 04/04/2024 (Oscoda)
Obituary Preview: Beloved brother, uncle, and son, Jay “Martin” East, passed away suddenly of a heart atttack on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 60. Born to Ron and Jean Marie Miscisin, he spent most of his formative years in Flint, Michigan, part of his high school years in Ubly, Michigan, and much of his adult life in Northern California and Maui, Hawaii. His final years were spent in Oscoda, Michigan. He leaves behind nine siblings Evelyn, Mary, David, Therese, John, Michelle, Karen, Matthew and Michael as well as seventeen nieces and nephews.  Martin was born with a sunny disposition and a nurturing spirit. His thoughtful communication style emphasized kindness, compassion, and presence. He showed patience and genuine interest when listening to others in conversation, and wanted to feel the same from them. He was always there for his first born niece with sage advice and guidance during her teenage years when it felt like no one else was listening. His encouragement for his siblings to pursue various career ambitions was always full-hearted and enthusiastic. He was a key caretaker of our Mother in her last years and was with her the night she passed.  Like his father, Martin enjoyed daily walks and paid attention to his health, often recommending foods and nutritional supplements to his family and friends. In his teens and 20’s he was an avid body builder and protective of his siblings. He enjoyed cycling and began competing at the age of 14. That year, he excelled in numerous races in his hometown of Flint and went on to win the 880-yard bicycle race during the CANUSA games in Hamilton Canada.  His love and wonder of nature was lifelong. He was often exhilarated by the colors of the trees in the fall, an adventurous hiking trail or a fascinating rock formation. Throughout his life, he would pause on his evening walks to watch the sun set.  Martin's intrigue with the mysteries of the universe, including UFOs, reflected his rich curiosity. His broader quest for knowledge extended beyond the mundane realities of everyday life. He made a hobby of searching for knowledge in a vast array of fields from biology and life extension to computer science and logic—as well as the struggles of everyday life. He had a complex way of thinking that would sometimes pose challenges even to himself.  We are grateful for the cherished memories we shared with Martin, from family camping trips to heartfelt moments among siblings. A particularly poignant memory is the time Martin and his brother Matthew witnessed a spectacular double rainbow while driving. As they both reached out of the window to experience rainbow in the space between their eyes and hands, they looked at each other and simultaneously exclaimed, "We are the gold at the end of the rainbow!"

Kris Alan Hofacer - April 19, 1958 - March 01, 2024

Departed: 03/01/2024 (Oscoda)
Obituary Preview: Kris Alan Hofacer was born on April 19, 1958 to Giles, Sr. and Lola Hofacer. Kris resided in Oscoda with Sereina, his lifetime soulmate of 37 years until his passing on March 1, 2024.
Kris had the greatest sense of humor and could make almost anyone laugh, even in the toughest of times. For those that really knew him, well, they will tell you that he may have been gruff on the outside, however, deep within his being he was a Teddy Bear. He did not mind helping another - and he gave in silence. It was personal to him - this giving back. He had a sense of Justice that many were not aware of. He felt compassion for those that struggled in life. Maybe because he had a strong understanding of what it meant to struggle - a lifetime of understanding the challenges life can set before another. And for those who knew him the best, they respected and accepted him for the Courage he showed during his most difficult and challenging times.
Kris had the most beautiful smiling blue eyes and he had an uncanny sense for fashion. There were many sides to Kris - he could converse about any topic be it music to politics, in fact, he made it onto CSPAN and was able to present his viewpoint on the topic of discussion. He was not afraid to take on tough topics - he felt that “freedom of speech” is a necessity for people to understand the World in general and to use this knowledge to evolve and learn. Kris was very well rounded - he was a general contractor and built a good reputation as an excellent drywaller, painter, etc. He was a great cook - his favorite was grilling for family and friends, enjoying cook outs, and playing games - bocce ball was his favorite yard game and if there was a swing of any sort around, he would be on it in a flash, just like a kid - and he would swing sometimes for minutes on end - it was another place where he found contentment. Christmas with family was his favorite Holiday - he would never miss it. It brought him solace. He loved just gathering and being together. Kris’ favorite realm was when he was in nature. He loved walking in the woods and along the shorelines of the Great Lakes; he enjoyed hunting, however fishing and boating were two of his favorite activities, whether it was on VanEtten Lake, the AuSable River, or any waterway for that matter. These outdoor activities always brought Kris peace of mind. He loved teaching his daughter, nephews, grandchildren and so many others how to fish and many other life skills. Throughout the years there were many stories shared about each one's special time with him and how they loved him and cherished those adventures with him that will always remain a part of his Legacy. He loved music and understood so many different genres - (Steely Dan a major favorite.) He could hear a song and know who the artist was in less than a minute. And he had a voice that if he had wanted to, he could have been a Star. His voice had a tone that was not only soothing but also mesmerizing - the comforting voice of an “Old Soul.” Kris loved his family and friends - which was evident by his outreach by telephone to just touch base. He was a good Partner, Dad (Step), Son, Brother, Uncle,
etc. and was loved by many. To say Kris will be missed, is an understatement. He truly had a good heart, and for those who journeyed with him - well, they witnessed the Courage of a true “Warrior,” one who survived many battles throughout his life and as he grew older and wiser, took the time to share his learnings with others. He was a unique, intelligent individual with Wisdom beyond his years.
Kris was preceded in death by his Parents Giles,Sr. and Lola; his Brother Giles, Jr.; Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and so many More.
He is survived by Sereina his lifetime Soulmate; his Daughter Kristin; his Brother Keith (Jan), Sister Rene; Sister Robina (Phil), Brother Hugh (Wanda); Sister-In-Law LeeAnn (Giles,Jr passed); his Mother-In- Law Bev; his Granddaughter Zaynah; Granddaughter Samantha; Grandchildren (Great); Nephews (Great), Nieces (great), his three Step Children and so many More.
The family will be having a private Celebration Of Life at a later time. For those wishing to send a card to the family, please send your condolences to The Hofacer Family, CO/ Rene, P. O. Box 446, East Tawas, MI 48730.
