April Ann Vitulli-Rankin - April 08, 1968 - April 07, 2024

Departed: 04/07/2024 (Barnegat)
Obituary Preview: April Ann Vitulli-Rankin, 55, of Manahawkin, NJ, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family in her home in Absecon, NJ. She fought a courageous battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. In this case, it sadly affected her ability to do the one thing she loved to do; speak and communicate with everyone around her. Because of the complexities of April’s medical condition and her love of the medical community, her brain was donated to Harvard University brain tissue resource center, where it will be fully researched. Within a year, we will know a definitive diagnosis and her brain will be used to potentially help others with a similar condition.
April's brain will be used to assist the medical community, which is what she would have wanted.
April is predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Stackhouse, and her sisters Heather and Carrie Stackhouse.
She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Jody Rankin, her adored children Karen Vitulli (s. Russell Kunkelman), Dr. Katie Pagan (s. Michael Pagan), Joseph Vitulli Jr., (s. Mackenzie Vitulli) and Robecca Rankin. Her five grandchildren, Sage 13, Elliot 12, Gino 3, Gabriella 2, and Corinne 1. Her father, Norman Stackhouse (p. Cathie Betty). Her brother, Scott Stackhouse (s. Jennifer Stackhouse). Beloved niece, Melissa Horner. And so many friends from the multiple roles she was able to play in her short, but full life.
April was born in Toms River and lived most of her life in Stafford Twp. She was the first of four children born to Norman and Dorothy Stackhouse. She graduated from Southern Regional High School in 1986. April was, as a child, how she was as an adult, sweet, caring, adventurous, mischievous, and always fun. She was the life of any and every party and she could plan one; that was even better! She loved the traditions of family and celebration and was the best host for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
She was in the medical field most of her adult life as a home health aide and a medical assistant. Through many promotions, April became a medical assistant instructor which was her dream job. She loved to learn and was thrilled to teach her knowledge to another generation.
But more than her love for the body’s systems and talking about the colonoscopies she helped with that day at the kitchen table, she absolutely adored her family. She was in love with her husband of 18 years, Jody Rankin, and dreamed of a life after retirement full of travel and having the grandkids over to swim. April loved being a mother. It was her reason for being. She had her first child, Karen, at age 19, followed by Katie, and then Joey. Mom inherited Becky as a bonus child in 2006. Medicine was her passion, but her children if you asked anyone, were her true life's work. She was the room mom, Girl Scout Leader for 15 years, dance mom, theater mom, karate mom, pageant mom, and T-ball mom. Any time she could help or be near her children, she was there. This list could go on forever, but she just loved being with family. She took all her children, along with their friends, on day trips, concerts, and other various activities. You name it, she was down for it!
She loved to travel. In her life, April had been to Europe three times. She also travelled to St. Maarten countless times, the Bahamas, Canada, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Disney World, Disneyland, and Rocking Horse Ranch to name a few. She planned to go to so many other places with her family and friends.
April could make a friend wherever she went and was a friend to so many. People always knew her wherever we went. She was a bright light, a mom and friend to everyone. It was no coincidence that this beautiful woman with a spirit as large as life waited until precisely three hours before her birthday to pass away on the eve of a complete solar eclipse.
To honor this wonderful person, we invite you to Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home 335 S Main St, Barnegat Township, NJ 08005, Saturday, April 27 from 2:00-4:00 pm for April’s Celebration of Life services. Dinner to follow at Lefty’s Tavern. In Lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Women’s Opportunity Center, an agency which helps single moms get back on their feet after divorce/domestic violence. Address- 8008 Rt 130 N. Delran, NJ 08075. Building A, Suite 216. Please note- this is her daughters place of work. Please make donations “in honor of April” If you are looking to donate to the Harvard Brain Bank, please see their website as follows: https://hbtrc.mclean.harvard.edu

It was said that Paul was allowed go to the school house at 4 years old before he started so he could use the school supplies to draw. It should come as no surprise that the vast majority of his pictures were of boats and the bay. He went on to attend high school in the old Barnegat high school building which until recently was located on Route 9. At the age of 16, Paul left school and began working with his father as a carpenter. He got his boat captain’s license at 18 but shortly after decided to join the Navy. After three years, he returned home and began work building the first of six boats designed for commercial work on the local bay waters and sneak box boats designed for duck hunting. Not long after beginning his boat building, Paul turned to a career as a Commercial Fisherman working those same waters of the Barnegat Bay. After working the bay for 10 years, Paul continued with his love of the water, and took up the position of Captain of different commercial fishing vessels. Both the Fleet King and White Star sailed daily and Paul had many faithful repeat customers from all over with whom he became extremely friendly. His first retirement came after 20 years of navigating the waters in and out of the Barnegat Inlet. Unable to sit still for too long, Paul took up employment with the Ocean Township MUA Department for an additional six years until retiring for good.
As a lifelong resident of Waretown, he was a treasure trove of information surrounding the towns character and history as well as its development. In addition to his love of the water, Paul also enjoyed a love of the surrounding woods. He enjoyed hunting and fishing the local areas, cutting firewood without fail, carving decoys and most certainly meeting friends at local establishments for morning coffee. He was a life member of Waretown Vol. Fire Department and a member of the Waretown Historical Society.

Obituary Preview: Toms River- Margaret (Mooney) Vill, 64 of Toms River NJ lost her heroic battle against her unrelenting illness on March 31, 2023. She had the love and support of her husband, Mike Vill and her family throughout her long battle. Margaret was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 28, 1959. But Margaret was a Jersey Girl at heart as she was only 6 weeks old when we moved to New Jersey. Margaret’s home was always open to family and friends. Margaret loved to plan parties and was so honored when she was asked to host. She loved being in her kitchen, just cooking away. No catering for Margaret, everything was fresh and made from scratch. One of her greatest joys was having her many nieces and nephews over for dinner and letting them pick the menu. Margaret’s heart was as big as the whole outdoors. She was always willing to help anyone in need, any time day or night. She loved supporting her nieces and nephews in all their endeavors. She loved attending their plays, concerts, soccer games, basketball games, football games, lacrosse games, baseball games, cheering competitions and any other activities they were involved. She loved being asked to babysit her nieces and nephews. And we most certainly took advantage of that love. This kept her very busy as both the Vill and Mooney family are very large. She has 17 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews on the Vill side of the family and 18 nieces and nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews on the Mooney side of the family. Margaret will always be remembered by those who have survived her, as a loving wife to Michael (Mike) Vill, loving daughter to Mary (Betty) Mooney Jacobs, loving sister to Jan Oberdick, John (Jack) Mooney, Michael Mooney, Kate Lake, Nancy Goodman, James Mooney, Joseph Mooney, Robert Mooney and Mary Alexander and their spouses or significant others, Jim, Kim, Debby, Jim, Fran, Jeanne, Beckie, Madeline and Marc and of course her 39 nieces and nephews and her 49 grand nieces and nephews.
