Larry R. Mosser - October 28, 1945 - March 05, 2024

Departed: 03/05/2024 (Nesquehoning)
Obituary Preview: Larry R. Mosser, 78, of the Lake Hauto section of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 5th at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem PA.  He was the husband of Diane (Snowich) Mosser.  Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Herman and Marian (Yenser) Mosser and moved to Lehighton at an early age. He attended Lehighton High School and was a proud graduate of Penn State University. He worked for Bethlehem Steel for over 30 years in market research before sharing his expertise through 17 years of consulting in the steel industry. He was fortunate to travel extensively with his job and loved to see the world. His passion for trying new restaurants and dining created cherished memories with family and friends alike. Yet, amidst his professional achievements, Larry’s heart belonged to his beloved, Diane. His greatest success was his 55-year marriage to her, the love of his life. Rarely were they ever apart. They raised three beautiful children together and he dedicated his life to them. He was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren who he always spoke about with so much pride and joy. He was the first to share any of their successes with the entire family. His favorite pastimes were going to their school and sporting events or spending time with them on his boat at Lake Hauto. A passionate supporter of Penn State football, his Saturdays in the Fall were dedicated to rooting for the Nittany Lions, whether from Beaver Stadium or his living room. Larry’s wisdom, sensitivity, and warmth endeared him to all who knew him. His sage advice and comforting hugs were always at the ready. Though he may have passed on, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.  Larry was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lehighton.

This woman lived as the Matriarch for her family. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother anyone could have ever imagined! Throughout her time, Jennie’s passion for baking and her selfless nature allowed her to share the most delicious, memorable Italian recipes with all. Any opportunity for her to have her family and friends gather was a joy. Every holiday and “The Shower of Roses” were her favorite times. Jennie was a lifelong football fan. She absolutely loved watching her children play and continued screaming in the stands for generations. She found her calling in caretaking and housekeeping throughout her life. She was a woman of servitude. Jennie’s connection with the Lord was profound. She rejoiced in prayer and sang in the choir. Singing country music and old Connie Francis songs, Jennie sang like an angel and could be heard down the street. A simple woman, Jennie enjoyed cooking for fundraisers with the ladies at the New Columbus Fire Co. and would give her time to the community. Her favorite thing to pass each day was sitting on her porch and watching nature and talking with friends. Jennie was known for her love for butterflies. This child of God’s love will keep her immortally within our hearts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information for those who want to pay their respects. They help to notify others of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and provide an opportunity for loved ones to share stories and memories.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, charitable donations, and any other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Traditional newspaper obituaries are often limited to 200-300 words, while online obituaries can be longer and more detailed.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and funeral homes allow you to upload photos or videos to accompany the obituary. This can help to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may accept submissions online or via email, while others may require a phone call or in-person visit.

What is the cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the newspaper or platform. Some publications offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge by the word or line. Online obituary platforms may offer package deals or subscription-based services.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's possible to make corrections or updates to an obituary after it's been published. However, this may depend on the publication or platform's policies and procedures.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary can vary depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online obituaries are often published immediately, while print newspapers may take several days or weeks.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, many people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to ensure their story is told accurately and honestly. This can also help to alleviate the burden on loved ones during a difficult time.

What is a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement that reports the death of a person, usually including their name, age, and date of death. It's often used in conjunction with a full obituary or as a standalone notice.

What is the difference between an obituary and a eulogy?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death and provides biographical information, while a eulogy is a speech or written tribute that celebrates the person's life and shares personal anecdotes.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous stories or anecdotes can help to capture the personality and spirit of the deceased.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there's sensitive information about the deceased that you're unsure about sharing publicly, consider consulting with family members or close friends before publishing the obituary.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the deceased's personality or interests.

What if I need to correct errors in an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication or platform where the obituary was published and request corrections. They may require proof of error before making changes.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers or websites that specialize in genealogy research. Many libraries also maintain archives of local newspapers that can be accessed for research purposes.

Can I republish an old obituary online?

Check with the original publication or copyright holder to obtain permission before republishing an old obituary online. You may need to obtain permission from family members as well.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary?

Drafting an obituary can be a challenging task. Consider seeking help from a funeral home director, grief counselor, or professional writer who specializes in crafting meaningful tributes.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers as a way to honor their loved one's legacy.

How do I share an online obituary on social media?

Most online obituary platforms provide shareable links or buttons that allow you to easily post on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.

What if I'm not comfortable writing about someone's cause of death?

You're not obligated to disclose sensitive information about the cause of death. Focus on celebrating the person's life and accomplishments instead.
