Obituary Preview: Mrs. Betty Jean Harris Yow, daughter of the late Randall Rollins Harris and Jimmie Mae Love Harris, was born in Birmingham, Alabama on June 11, 1946. She was the fourth of seven children. Betty accepted Christ into her life and united with the Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. O.V. Mosley. She served her church faithfully, taking great joy in doing whatever was asked of her. She was a retired nurse and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Betty was married for 58 years to Preston Yow, Sr. Four children were born to this union. Obituary Preview: Cynthia Augusta was born in Fairfield, Alabama on December 19, 1956, to the late Grace Parker and Earl Augusta.  On Monday, March 7, 2022, Cynthia Augusta exchanged her life on earth for God’s promise of a magnificent reward of eternal life in Paradise.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Parker; father, Earl Augusta; siblings, Abraham Parker, and Mardi Jones.
Cynthia confessed Christ at an early age at Lily Star Baptist Church in Fairfield, Alabama under the leadership of Reverend J. S. Myles.  She later became a dedicated member of True Love Church under the leadership of Reverend Eddie J. White where she served faithfully on the Ushers Ministry.  She was educated in the Birmingham Public School System and was a 1975 graduate of Ensley Magnet High School.  She retired from a long career at St. Vincent Hospital.

Obituary Preview: Bennie L. Parker Elliott was known by many near and far. She was born August 13, 1936, to loving parents, the late Ben Lamar and the late Mildred Johnson in Autauga County, Alabama. Bennie had an active spiritual life beginning at an early age when she confessed Christ. In later years after relocating to Birmingham, Alabama, she joined Sixth Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John W. Goodgame. Bennie had many awesome talents. However, God granted her with a great and anointed voice. She used her bold vocals to praise and sing gospel over the years. There were countless instances where she was requested to lend her vocals throughout the City of Birmingham as well as many surrounding areas. Her soulful vocals allowed her to sing acapella, as well as, with accompanied musical instruments. Bennie was kind-hearted and greeted others with a bright and beautiful smile. While attending school within the community where she grew up, she was always excited about the relationship, friends and activities that brought her joy and happiness. During Bennie’s early years of marriage to William H. Parker, Sr., she was the proud mother of four beautiful children. After uniting with R. C. Elliott, the love of her life, she became his right-hand partner in their living and their faith. Collectively, they made a home and family together in excess of 44 years. She and her late husband devoted themselves to parenthood as they shared in the joy of their unified family; consisting of her four children and six bonus children. On Monday, February 28, 2022, this devoted mother and grandmother, acquired her wings, just as her predeceased loved ones. Especially her father, Ben Lamar; mother, Mildred Johnson; husband, R. C. Elliott; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Parker and Lucille Shackleford; three sons, Earl Elliott, Victor Elliott and Douglas Elliott; one grandson, Jacquan Hunter; one great grandchild, Kwame Parker and special aunt, Annie Kirkland, had done before her. Gathered to comfort each other in grief, celebrate the life and forever cherish the memories of our beloved, Bennie, is her three daughters, Marion (Lawrence) Gordon, Lillie Robinson, both of Birmingham, AL and Barbara Elliott of Fort Wayne, IN; three sons, William H. Obituary Preview: James Lewis Kellogg, affectionately known as "Jim Dandy", was born September 4, 1939, to the late Ms. Geneva Thompson in Cobb County, Georgia. At an early age, he confessed his life to Christ and later moved to Birmingham, AL. where he joined the United States Army at the age of 29. He received many medals of honor to include Good Conduct, Marksman of Rifle (N-14), Sharpshooter (Pistol 45), and Army of Occupational (Berlin). While serving he received his GED. After service, he worked at Stockholm Valves and Fittings for 10 years. James later moved to his beloved Ackworth, Georgia , where he worked at Qualico Casting for many years. He had an extreme love for his family, cars, dancing, and music with one of his favorite hits, "Got to Give it Up", by Marvin Gaye. He was a beloved member at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Acworth, Georgia, under the leadership of Pastor Frank Johnson, where he was their favorite doorkeeper. All who knew him, loved him. He fulfilled   his mission on Earth on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the VA Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Jim Dandy made his transition and united with his predeceased loved ones: his wife of 33 years, Lois Jean Kellogg; his mother, Geneva Kellogg; Terry Thompson; his grandsons, Monterio and Mondrelle Kellogg; and his brother, Roy Marchman. Obituary Preview: Mr. Marcus L. Ingram was born April 14, 1924 in Blue Mt. Mississippi to the late Mr. Herman Leroy Ingram and Mrs. Fannie O. Gray Ingram. His parents raised him along with his siblings in Parrish, AL. He later moved to Birmingham, AL.
Professing his faith and accepting Christ at an early age, he joined the church and became a devoted and faithful servant of God. After relocating to Birmingham, AL, he joined Wilson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member of the choir.
Marcus united in marriage to Estella J. Ingram in 1947 and the Lord blessed them with eight children in that union, four sons and four daughters. He was a man who cherished his family and always provided for them. Being a very industrious person, he worked as a coal miner in Walker County, AL. He retired from U. S. Pipe and Foundry, a place where he exhibited hard work dedication resulting in instilling “good work ethics” in his children.
In 1997, he married his present wife, and friend, Berneice and served her as a devoted spouse until he departed life. They shared many wonderful traditions and built family memories together as a blended family. Marcus was a fun-loving man who served as husband to his wife, father, granddaddy, great-granddaddy, and great-great granddaddy, and uncle to his generations of children. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, being outdoors, fishing, baseball, golf, football, cheering for ‘Alabama’ of course….”Roll Tide”, and watching those old TV westerns;  Matt Dillion, The Rifleman, and Bonanza!
Lovingly referred to by many as ‘Mr. Ingram’, he had many supportive friends along the way, and he considered his friendships, ‘Great Friends until the End.” In his younger years, baseball was his choice sport and many considered him a passionate baseball player. On Father’s Day, about five years ago, he received a memorable recognition at Regions Field for his baseball skills and previous historical baseball affiliated associates. God blessed him with an endearing life filled with love, family, adventures, and friends. We all loved him and we will miss him dearly.
On December 29, 2021, Mr. Marcus Ingram departed his earthly life and entered into eternal peace. His parents and many family members preceded him in death, including his son, Jackie R. Ingram, and daughter, Agnes J. Carr.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Berneice B. Ingram; six children- Linda (Earnest) Roland of Sumter, SC; Margaret (Ray) Stewart of Birmingham, AL; Hodges (Cora) Ingram of  Madison, AL;  Gerald (Annette) Ingram of Huntsville, AL;  Nancy (Roosevelt) Smith of Birmingham, AL; and Marcus Travis Ingram of Nashville, TN.  27grandchildren- Reginald, Rodrick, and Adrienne Carr; Ebony, Nitasya, and Erica Roland; Brian and Lea Ingram; Richard Rembert, Erron Ingram; Angelica West,  (Memorial -Jackie “JJ” Ingram (deceased), Jamal and Whitney Ingram; Stan McCrary, Demetrics Hughes, Alexis Ingram, and Jamia Lewis; Mynina Lewis; Tiffany Plummer, (Memorial – Darryontae Plummer (deceased), Derek, Ephraim, and Darryl Hill, Kyler and Kyrin Ingram, Brayden Brooks, several great-and great-great grandchildren; His only surviving sister, Dorothy Sargent of Dayton, Ohio.  Special recognition to nephews and nieces- Dwight, John, and Felix Ingram of  Walker County, AL, Darryl Ward, Hazetta Brooks, Vanessa Andebrhan, and Carmen (Sargent) Jones of Dayton OH, Laquita and Jermaine Featherstone of Detroit MI; UAB Highland Nurses, and Eastview Rehab Healthcare Center; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Michael DeWayne Boykin transitioned peacefully Friday, September 3, 2021, South Haven Health and Rehabilitation, LLC. He was born November 24, 1958, in Fairfield, Alabama, to the late Delores Boykin Johnson. He is preceded in death by only beloved sister, Vickie Renae’ Johnson Young, with whom he was very close.
Michael’s affinity for cooking was quite evident at an early age. Those skills were well known throughout the community, especially as his passion moved to the forefront at Captain D’s Restaurant – using his “secret” ingredient, his hush puppies were irresistible, with lines wrapped around the corner to place an order. Michael graduated from Fairfield High School, in Fairfield, Alabama, class of 1976. In addition to cooking, Michael loved to dance, travel and more importantly, spend time with family and friends. On any given day, you would find Michael laughing and joking and his personality was infectious.
He was known for his gentle and kind spirit always willing to lend a helping hand. In fact, before his granfather, grandmother, cousin, mother, and sister passed away, Michael was an attentive and loving caregiver to each family member. He was always consistent in his support for his family and those he loved.
Michael had an energetic vigor for life and truly enjoyed it to the fullest; he lived intentionally and abundantly.

Edwards; one great nephew Ace R. Young; his dear friend and confidant Valerie Robinson and loving cousins, Terrie Boykin Outlin and her husband Anthony, who affectionally cared for him until the very end. Michael’s two uncles Harold Boykin, Sr. and Lonnie Ray, Boykin Sr. and two aunts Gloria E. Boykin and Brenda O. Boykin are also left to mourn his passing, as well as a host of cousins and friends.

Obituary Preview: “When someone you love becomes a Memory, that Memory becomes a Treasure” Today We Remember Henry Lee “Buttercup” Hawkins Jr, the only son born to Henry Sr and Ruby Sanders Hawkins in Flat Creek, Alabama, on January 3, 1960. Buttercup was a rambunctious, curly haired little boy who played and ran the dirt roads of Flat Creek and everyone in the mining camp town knew him. He later grew into a man who was well- known throughout Walker and Jefferson County. While a young boy, he joined Rising Star Baptist Church and years later he joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Adamsville, and served as a Deacon under Rev. James Dimbo. “Cup” attended Walker County Schools and was a phenomenal athlete; he played Basketball and Football; he was the first Black Quarterback to step onto the field for Dora High School, from where he later graduated. After graduation, he worked at Standard, Barbers, Allied and Industrial but like many young men in the late ‘70’s, “Cup” began working in the Coal Mining Industry and worked for Drummond Coal Company for 15 years. Approximately 4 months ago, Buttercup began to have failing health issues, hospital stays and was in a rehabilitation facility where on August 11, he succumbed to his illness and transitioned to an eternal life of peace, free of sickness and pain, to reunite with his Dad Henry, Mom Ruby, Sister Janet and Nephew Alexander. His Memory remains in the hearts of his Daughter Jazmine Hawkins, Seattle, Washington; 3 Sons: Adrian “Asa” Woods (Candace), Gardendale; Joshua Hawkins, Birmingham and Khalif Green, Huntsville. 2 Sisters: Cynthia Sambe, St Louis and Sharon Franklin (Henry), Birmingham. 2 Grandchildren, Adrian and Kennedi Woods. A special Nephew and Niece, Edmund Hawkins and Nicole Bridges. 4 other nephews: Alonzo Matthews, Jeremiah Hawkins, Harold Moore and Raymond Moore. 3 other nieces: Shante Matthews,  Kimberly and Krystal Moore 4 great nephews, 3 great-great nephews, 6 great nieces, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends. Washington Business College and in 1972 she graduated receiving her Associates Degree in Business Administration. After completing college, Evora met the love of her life, the late Mr. Bernard Price. The two became one and joined in holy matrimony on July 11, 1973, unto this union two beautiful baby girls were born, Chiquita and Bernita. Evora attended Metropolitan C.M.E Church and later moved her church membership to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Dr. W.M. Norwood, where she was a very active member. Also, she worked in the Birmingham City School system for 29 years until her retirement. Evora was a loving, caring, and meek person. She was an amazing cook and fed the neighborhood. She was known for baking, especially her delicious red velvet cakes. Evora transitioned from this earthly life on August 11, 2021.   Evora was preceded in death by her late husband; Bernard Price, parents; George Woods Jr. and Pearlie L. Woods, and brother; Jarvis Woods. Evora leaves to cherish her memories: loving daughters; Chiquita Price and Bernita (Rodney Jr.) Price-Franklin all of Birmingham, AL.
