Obituary Preview: Betty Jo Maness Laws went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. She was born on February 15, 1935, in Rose Hill, Virginia to the late Clyde and Hattie Lee Maness. In 1965, Betty Jo graduated from Pineville school of nursing. She worked at the Pineville Community Hospital for 45 years, twenty-seven years in intensive care. Betty Jo met her husband at West Pineville Baptist church where they were members for several years. They bought a home in East Jellico and moved their membership to East Jellico Baptist Church where they were faithful members. Betty Jo was active in WMU and bible school.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Johnny Laws; the light of her life, her daughter, Vickie Lynn Bennett; siblings Kyle, Clara, Billy, Jess, Landon, Leamon, Ben, David, Dana, Jewell, and Patricia.
Survivors include her sister, Carolyn (Ronnie) Gilbert; grandson Gary Wayne Bennett; son-in-law Wayne Bennett; sisters-in-law Jean Maness and Erika Maness. A host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home at 12 noon with Rev. Paul Anglin and Rev. Bill Helton; burial will follow in Pineville Memorial Cemetery, Pineville, KY with family and friends as pallbearers; Gary Carnes, Mark Hoskins, Carl Turner, Jesse Howard, and Bobbie Thompson as honorary pallbearers.

In his over 44 years of service to Durham Funeral Home (Brooks-Durham) and to the families of Bell and the surrounding counties, Arthur touched the lives of countless individuals. He used his service in the funeral industry as a form of personal ministry to those in a time of need, providing emotional and spiritual guidance (and a good laugh). The same compassion he held for families at the funeral home persisted in his love of his community. He gave untold hours of his life helping those in need, visited with those unable to leave their homes, and pastored churches along the way. The Bible speaks of a servant’s heart, and Arthur filled that role perfectly.
