Margaret Roselee Dyson White - September 24, 1948 - April 16, 2024

Departed: 04/16/2024 (Mechanicsville)
Obituary Preview: Margaret Roselee (Dyson) White, 75, of Lexington Park, MD, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Adventist White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring, MD. Margaret was born on September 24, 1948, in Hermanville, MD to the late Mary Lillian (Washington) Dyson and John William Dyson. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church until her passing. She always spoke of how the Lord blessed her and kept her through ups and downs and various trials and tribulations in her life.
Margaret graduated from Great Mills High School in 1968.  Upon her high school graduation, she moved to San Diego, California to obtain her nursing degree. She returned to Maryland upon its receipt and was a nurse’s aide for several years at the former Amber House Nursing Home in Lexington Park as well as a housekeeper for several naval military families and a homemaker.
Margaret always had a beautiful smile, a quick, sharp wit, along with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. She was feisty and fun. She enjoyed sharing a laugh and giving advice to all those in her presence. She was a collector of salt and pepper shakers and white milk glass, as well as having a profound taste for clothes, shoes, hats, jewelry and purses. She enjoyed playing card games such as spades and rummy, playing board and electronic games, especially Scrabble. She enjoyed watching old black and white westerns on TV, especially Clint Eastwood movies. She watched her “stories” faithfully; The Young and The Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful, daily. She also enjoyed television game shows including Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Let’s Make A Deal and The Price Is Right. She taught Milicent her hobbies of crocheting, antiquing, and baking.
Margaret never knew a stranger; she made friends instantly. She possessed a kind heart, a giving and generous spirit to anyone in need. She would drive people to the bank, to the store and to their doctors’ appointments in her car “Champagne”. She was always willing to help others regardless of their affiliation with her. She rarely ever said “No” to anyone. She was the “neighborhood grandma”. You would find all the kids at her apartment getting something to eat, drink or just to chat and hang out with “Ms. Margaret”. There they would find a compassionate heart with a listening ear, stern but good advice. She always had candy and gum on hand to give away, too. Margaret instilled a deep love of education and hard work in her daughter along with all the children that came through her door. Her kindness, faithfulness, and generosity, lives on in everyone who knew her. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her grandparents, Wilson & Mary “Mamie” Washington, and Joseph & Ann Dyson; her former husband, Melvin Theodore White and her siblings, Mamie Rebecca (Dyson) Butler, Mary Louise (Dyson) Houseman and Joseph Edward “Popeye” Dyson.

Family and friends will unite on Thursday, April 25, 2024 for visitation at 10 a.m.; service at 11 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, 46370 Pegg Lane, Lexington Park, MD 20653.  Interment to follow at First Missionary Baptist Church cemetery, 21075 Hermanville Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653.

Departed: 03/04/2024 (Mechanicsville)
Obituary Preview: “I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7-8
William Edgar Young, Jr. was called to his heavenly home on Monday, March 4, 2024. He was born in St. Mary’s County, Maryland to the late William Edgar, Sr., and Virginia E. Young on December 31, 1938.
On April 23, 1960, William married Dorothy Cecelia Curtis. Together, they shared a loving marriage of 63 years and raised seven children: Patrick (Betty), Deborah Thompson (Alvin), Harold (Paulette), Christopher (Lela), David (Patricia), Vanessa (deceased) and Pamela Tolliver (Earl).
He was educated in St. Mary’s County Public Schools and a graduate of Banneker High School. After graduation, William entered employment with the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) and worked his way up starting as a security officer and ending his career as a supervisor. After over 30 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1997.
He possessed a strong work ethic and had no tolerance for slumber or laziness. Shortly after retirement, he began work installing and delivering sheds. This job played to his skill as a master carpenter having built his personal residence many years prior. After this, he worked odd jobs and assisted others when needed.
William was a devoted Christian and an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, Maryland where he served as an usher and assisted with other church functions. He was generous and supported the United Way, A Day of Caring of St. Mary’s, and served as a member of the Knights of St. John. He was always ready to lend a hand, and strongly believed in helping others when there was a need.
William cherished his family as a loving and devoted patriarch, always proud and encouraging his children/grandchildren to soar to great heights and to accomplish more than he did. He loved socializing with family at gatherings and family celebrations.
Dad was very keen on keeping busy, not being idle when there was work or chores to complete and was quick to admonish his children if he saw them lacking. He took immense pride in making sure his house was well maintained and his lawn well-manicured.
Dad had a gift for fixing things and had a knack for repairing cars in his spare time. Other pastimes included being a BIG Washington Commanders (formerly Washington Redskins) fan and he also followed Major League Baseball (MLB). He enjoyed TV favorites: Family Feud with Steve Harvey and his weekly 60 Minutes program. As for music, he loved Little Richard. On many summer days sitting on the porch, we could hear his tunes blasting in the air.
William is survived by his wife, six children, fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, two sons-in-law and four daughters-in-law. Other survivors include his sisters, Helen Chase (George deceased) of Bryantown, MD; Laura Woodland (Joseph) of Charlotte Hall, MD; Mary Young of Waldorf, MD; brother, Paul Young (Nancy) of Mitchellville, MD; a host of caring cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Vanessa Elaine, and grandson, Keith Young.
While we will miss him, he will be forever in our hearts.
Family and friends will unite on Monday, March 18, 2024 for visitation at 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 28297 Old Village Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659.  Interment to follow at Queen of Peace cemetery, 38888 Dr. Johnson Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659.

Charles Merle Cutchember - August 23, 1954 - February 22, 2024

Departed: 02/22/2024 (Mechanicsville)
Obituary Preview: Charles Merle Cutchember, better known as “Merle,” passed from this earthly life into eternal rest while at home with his family by his side on February 22, 2024. Merle was born on August 23, 1954, to Roy Ignatius and Australia Ufame Riche Cutchember in Valley Lee, MD. Merle was a twin, with Muriel, better known as “Kathy,” being his twin sister. Merle was educated at St. Peter Claver School and by the St. Mary’s County Public Schools after which he received career training while enrolled in the Job Corps.
Merle was a hard-working man who held his long-time position at The Pentagon in Arlington, VA and his most recent job at Inova Hospital with Crothall Healthcare, Inc.  When Merle was not at work, he enjoyed his hobbies, which included completing paint jobs for family and friends, as well as wiping down his car daily! He also loved and enjoyed being a member of the Knights of St. Jerome and did with excellence whatever he was tasked to do.
St. Peter Claver Church was another home to Merle. He was an active church member. Almost every Sunday, Merle drove Yvonne to Mass from Waldorf for Yvonne to sing in the choir and for him to get in his favorite pew to worship God. During Parish activities, Merle could be seen doing the background or preparatory work that required setting up or heavy lifting.
On Sundays after church, Merle enjoyed eating fluffy pancakes at Cracker Barrel. On the weekends at home, Merle would play a serious game of “dueces” with his mother-in-law, Virginia, and family.
“Die-hard fan” is how most would describe Merle’s relationship with the Baltimore Ravens; he was actually hoping that they made it to the 2024 Superbowl.  Merle was also a die-hard fan of his family, especially his wife, Yvonne, and the children. Merle and Yvonne were involved in a 40-year courtship and were married by Rev. Scott Woods on June 29, 2013. Their courtship never ended during their marriage. Merle showed also extraordinary love for the children in the family, and they reciprocated. He was given the name “Poppy” by his great grandchildren and he gave some of them pet names as well: Sarae - “rabbit,” Samaree – “my little nurse,” and Messiah – my god-son.”
Merle was a quiet, humble, God-fearing man, who was willing to do anything to support his family, friends, the Knights and St. Peter Claver. He never fussed. He never complained. If you really got to know Merle, you would get to know his famous response: “Sure-ya-right” and his famous, welcoming smile. He had a small frame, but it housed a gigantic heart. For this, he will be sorely missed.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Australia Cutchember; his maternal grandparents, Elenor Riche and Charlie Riche; 3 brothers, Charles “B” Cutchember, Joseph Gaskin, and Frankie Cutchember; and 1 sister, Yvonne Cutchember.
Merle leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Yvonne C. Cutchember; 3 children, Latasha S. Harris (Monteria Harris Jr.), Lance W. Rothwell, and Ethelyn “Louise” Briscoe; 9 grandchildren: Kayla, Mariah, Laila, Vernicia, Robert Jr., Montell, Tiairia, Destiny, and Mason; 5 great-grandchildren, Sarae, Samaree, Messiah, KhiAire, and Dontrey; 4 brothers, Roy “Chipper” Cutchember Jr., Orlando Cutchember, James “Jimmy” Cutchember, and Gerald Lawrence; 3 sisters, Mary Lou Bryan (Julian), Muriel “Kathy” Cutchember, and Jacqueline “Jackie” Berry (Joe), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, March 8, 2024 for visitation at 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 16922 St. Peter Claver Road, St. Inigoes, MD 20684. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Mary Cecelia Price - February 22, 1931 - February 10, 2024

Departed: 02/10/2024 (Mechanicsville)
Obituary Preview: Mary Cecelia Price, 92 of Great Mills, MD, departed this life on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Hospice of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD. Mary, affectionately known by many as “Granny”, was born February 22, 1931, to the late Claude Sylvester Price and Bertha May Gordon.  Mary was a lifelong resident of Lexington Park, MD and received her education at the Jarboesville School, in Hermanville, MD. She was employed for years by the Aud and Spark families as a domestic caregiver.
She enjoyed caring for her family and became “Granny” to everyone she met. There weren’t too many people that knew her real name. In her spare time, you could find her on the telephone with one of her sisters or her niece, Denise Campbell; that was until her soap operas came on, or “Soul Poppers” as she called them. She did not want any interruptions while watching the Young and the Restless, or the Bold and the Beautiful. In the evenings, she enjoyed the Maury Show, Steve Wilkos, and Family Feud. Everyone that came around knew how good-looking Steve Harvey was.
Granny was a fun, loving, wise woman, with a witty sense humor. She was often quiet, but once she became comfortable with you and started talking, one would soon realize she had a slick tongue and you never knew what to expect out of her mouth. By the end of the conversation there would be lots of laughter and most importantly, a life lesson. If she told you anything whether she was right or wrong, Granny was always to be right, because she followed up with her favorite question, “Ain’t I right”; who could tell her that she was wrong after that. Granny loved music and could be spotted anywhere snapping her fingers, patting her feet, or bobbing her head. She told so many stories of the way she loved to dance back in her day.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her sons, Joseph Price (Agnes -deceased) and Tyrone Price; sisters, Mary Morgan, and Elizabeth Barnes; brothers, Brent Price, Charles Price, and Sylvester Bennett, and a special niece, Elaine Barnes, whom she loved like a daughter.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Sylvia Lovette (Rodney Lovette, Sr.-deceased); granddaughters, Myeka Price, Tania Aldridge, Latoya Reed, and Marteea Barnes; eight great-grandchildren, Tyreana, Jamiah, Diamond, Knari, Gabriella, Khamdyn, Zamiyah, and Kinsley; sisters, Mary Frances Perrin, Evelyn Harris, Alice Chase, and sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Price, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. She was loved dearly by so many and will be deeply missed.
Family and friends will unite on Monday, February 26, 2024 for visitation at 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Face Catholic Church, 20408 Point Lookout Road, Great Mills, MD 20634.  Interment to follow at the church cemetery.

SAMUEL J. YOUNG - April 02, 1929 - February 06, 2024

Departed: 02/06/2024 (Mechanicsville)
Obituary Preview: Samuel J. Young was born into a family of Irish immigrants in 1929 in Irish Harlem in Manhattan. He contracted spinal meningitis as a toddler and was later diagnosed deaf from the sickness. Sam had an older sister, Mary Caracciolo, and younger brother, Tom Young. Their mother died unexpectedly at the age of 33 from blood poisoning, leading his father to send them back to Ireland to be cared for by their aunt and uncle. The siblings returned back to New York 3 years later and were sent to orphanages since their new stepmother did not want to care for them. All three children made it on their own. Sam attended St. Josephs school for the deaf, and his father died when he was 17 years old.
Sam grew up a lover of baseball—especially the New York Yankees. He would often laugh at his walk-on tryouts for the Yankees where he struck out ten times. In his boy hood, he was honored to meet Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth.
Sam had difficulty finding work as a deaf man. He traveled often and eventually met his wonderful wife, Dorothy, in Houma Louisiana. They were married in 1953 and had three children - Mary, Sam and Tim.
Sam was among many deaf who worked as linotype operator in the 1960s. Since these machines were so loud, the deaf were able to tolerate the noise over hearing individuals. This was a good paying profession.
In the late 1970s and early 80s Sam received gospel tracts from his other deaf co-workers. The Lord was preparing his heart. In the mid 1980s he and his wife went to a service to see deaf evangelist Reggie Rempel. Both Sam and Dorothy trusted in Christ during this time. Sam was overjoyed that both his brother Tom and sister Mary both trusted Christ as Savior around this same time as well. Sam and Dorothy faithfully attended deaf services at Independent Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Most recently, Sam attended Calvary Baptist Church with his son Sammy.
Sam is remembered for displaying friendliness and love to all he met. He truly knew how to make others feel special. He had a great sense of humor, which was one of his favorite ways to communicate with others. He had his own way to ensure the hearing could understand his signs. He loved it when people would go out of their way to sign to him -- or try to sign to him.
Sam leaves he and Dorothy’s three children, Mary (Gary) James, Samual Young Jr., and Tim (Brenda) Young, as well as his 9 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Sam Young loved displaying his love for Christ. He boldly displayed his faith with hats and clothing that said he loved Jesus. He loved to show his love for his Savior. All the family knew this love for Christ was evident. He had a story-book life, and not one of us would be surprised if the first words he may have ever heard since becoming deaf were “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 for visitation from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m.; service to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, 38576 Brett Way, Mechanicsville, MD. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Rd, Waldorf, MD 20601.
