Alan Angus Rawley - January 22, 1963 - March 24, 2024

Departed: 03/24/2024 (Brewer)
Obituary Preview: Alan “Al” Rawley was born on January 11, 1963 at a Bangor Hospital. It was at that same hospital where he passed away on March 24, 2024. He has now joined his parents and brother in heaven where we’re told they are fishing together.
Alan spent his early years living with his parents, Elton and Aileen Rawley, in Marlboro, Maine. When they moved to Bangor, he found an expansion of the support he had known in the Ellsworth area and in its schools. There was Penobscot Valley Industries and Ralph Leek Elders Amicus program to give Alan activities and friendship to fill his days and provide for his health and safety for 40 years.
After his mother’s death, he relied on MERT Enterprises to provide housing. Since 1998, he has known many housemates and care givers with whom he has shared his life. We will forever be grateful for the care and support he was given throughout the years. Swimming in Hampden and bowling in Bangor were particular favorite activities. He delighted in visits to Pine Tree Camp where his parents campaigned for its support with annual television programs. Getaways to Camp CaPella allowed him two days of camping activities with all of his friends.
In addition to his parents, Alan was predeceased by his brother, Russ Van Arsdale. He is survived by his sister-in-law, M. Jane Van Arsdale.
Friends are welcome to call from 10 to 11 AM on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings Smith, 55 South Main Street. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately after with Dr. Bruce Young officiating.
In honor of Alan Rawley, a longtime resident of MERT Enterprises, his family has committed to fund the yearly tuition for his friends to attend one two-day session at Camp CaPella, a non-profit camp for our disabled public, in Dedham, ME. The donation will be put in a fund to be invested and utilized, exclusively for Alan’s extended family at MERT. Jane Van Arsdale has made this commitment to Camp CaPella for MERT due to the wonderful care Mary Rush and staff provided her family member since 1998. Gifts in Alan’s memory may be made to Camp CaPella,P.O. Box 552, Holden, ME. 04429, knowing that Alan will be there in spirit. https://my.gather.app/remember/alan-rawley

Phyllis "Deedee" Ann Jordan, 82, a woman whose heart overflowed with love, kindness, and a contagious sense of humor, left us on January 26, 2024, to continue spreading laughter in the presence of her Heavenly Father. Born on November 2, 1941, in New London, CT, to devout Christian parents Robert and Avis Jordan, Phyllis lived a life dedicated to her faith and bringing joy to those around her.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Phyllis had a passion for helping others. She embarked on three medical missions trips to Haiti, Honduras, and Senegal, dedicating her time and skills to serve those in need.
While Phyllis's sense of humor brought laughter to countless lives, it was her unwavering faith that truly touched hearts. Garth Anthony DeBeck - January 04, 1962 - July 25, 2023

Departed: 07/25/2023 (Brewer)
Obituary Preview: Garth “Garby” A. DeBeck, 61, passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2023. He was born January 4, 1962, the youngest of six children to Gordon A. DeBeck Sr. and Gloria L. DeBeck Thompson. He grew up in Eddington, throughout his life he never strayed far from his childhood home.
Garth’s love of wood-working began at a very young age and continued throughout his life. As a child he built many cabins and treehouses to enjoy with his friends. This led to him becoming an incredibly skilled carpenter. He began working for boat companies building custom boats and his love of boats followed him to the end. Garth especially loved finish carpentry and his skills were incomparable. He never wanted to hear “That’s good enough”, he would tear it apart and start over. Perfection was the only acceptable result. Garth loved spending time in his garage working on his next project. Many people over the years were lucky enough to be blessed by a custom piece of work from him. He would add a unique touch to each piece that he would jokingly refer to as “patina”.
On August 24, 2013, Garth married the love of his life, Denise, after many years together. He was very proud of the life and home they built in Clifton and spoke of it often.
Garby lived life on his terms and it was filled with so much love, laughter and friendship. He made many friends throughout the years and touched many lives. All of which he had a story for. There wasn’t anywhere he went that he didn’t make a new friend. It was said many times that if he could write down all of his stories, it would make for one hell of a book.
He is survived by his loving wife Denise (Cohen) DeBeck; children, Angela Young and husband Chris and their son Kaden, Jennifer Dill and husband Marc and their sons Zachary and Isaac, Nicole Springer and husband Wes and their daughters Travia and Kaydence, sons, Thomas and Bradley DeBeck; brothers, Gordon DeBeck Jr. and wife Cindy, Gregg DeBeck Sr. and wife Terry, Garrett DeBeck and wife Juli-Ann; sister, Garnette Thompson and husband Randy; a brother by choice, Joe Savoy and wife Karen and their family; nieces and nephews, Gina Richardson and husband Tim and their son Phillip and his family, Gordon DeBeck III and wife Carrie and their daughter Haley and her family, Gregg DeBeck Jr. and wife Patty, Adam Thompson and his children Whitney, Waylon and Gunner, Nicole Blais and husband Mike and their children Evan and Brady Andrews; as well as special friend Kyle Senter, who he loved dearly. Bryce Cody-John Basso - August 02, 2005 - April 14, 2023

Departed: 04/14/2023 (Brewer)
Obituary Preview: ORRINGTON AND EDDINGTON - Bryce Cody-John Basso, 17, died April 14, 2023, in Acadia National Park while doing one of the things he loved the most, adventuring and spending time with his friends. He was born on August 2, 2005, in Bangor, the son of Amy Atherton and Brad Basso, and their spouses Jeremy Atherton and Heather Basso. Bryce was also the best big brother to his little buddy, Emmett Atherton.
Bryce graduated from Center Drive in Orrington Class of 2020. While he was there, he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams. It was also at CDS, that his love of music blossomed, under the guidance of his beloved music and drama teacher, Pauline Miller. This was a passion that carried on throughout his life. He played numerous instruments and spent countless hours teaching himself new songs. Bryce also participated in chorus, drama and was the CDS Student of the month multiple times.
Bryce was also a member of the class of 2024 at Brewer High School, where he was enrolled in the automotive engineering program offered through UTC and was truly excelling. Bryce’s freshman year was spent at John Bapst High School, where he and his friends found themselves experiencing their first year of high school dictated by Covid protocols, remote learning and split in-person learning. While there, he was a member of the band, Varsity Football, Freshman Basketball and JV Baseball teams. Once at Brewer, he earned his varsity letter in Football during his sophomore year. He had the opportunity to play alongside a crew of his friends that had been his teammates since he started with the Brewer Youth Program in 3rd grade. Some of his favorite days were spent on the field with his football family. Bryce decided this past winter to try his hand at wrestling. BHS didn’t have their own school team so he had the chance to join up with the incredible crew at Bucksport High School. They took him under their wings, taught him the ropes, and truly embraced him as one of their own. In a very short time, he created lasting bonds with that very special group of coaches and athletes. Bryce was also a member of the JV Baseball team at Brewer. Originally coming up through the ranks of the Orrington Little League program, he spent countless hours on the field, being coached by his dad, and numerous other important members of his extended family. He experienced much success on the diamond, including his undefeated championship season with his Kindred Spirits team, and traveling all around New England to play with his Grizzlies travel team. Ultimately, Bryce had decided this spring, to pursue his passion for MMA, and found himself a home at Titan Athletics in Brewer. He truly thrived in that environment, coming home every night showing off a newly acquired bump, bruise, or black eye…or boasting about finally getting the choke on one of his sparring partners.
In the summer, Bryce worked alongside Jeremy on the coast worming, and would spend weekends on the golf course with Brad. In his downtime, he enjoyed drawing, painting, and playing video games, but, by all accounts, Bryce was an adventure junky; truly fearless. He loved getting his adrenaline pumping any way he could. The kid never met a tree he didn’t want to climb. He loved dirt biking, 4-wheeling, snowboarding and skateboarding. He lived for a dare and would take on almost any challenge that was thrown his way. He was fiercely loyal and protective of his “gang” of friends. He was so blessed to be surrounded by a true family of close friends and was a light to every single life he touched.
Bryce is survived by his mother, Amy Atherton, her husband, Jeremy, and their son Emmett, of Orrington; father, Brad Basso and his wife, Heather, of Eddington; “Nana” Linda Basso, of Winterport; Uncle Scott Basso and his wife, Marie, and their children, Brianna, Brady, Kathy, Danny and Josie, of Winterport; Uncle Mike Basso and his wife, Brandy and their son, Alex, of North Carolina; Aunt Ann Marie Colonna and her children, David and Angela, of New York; Gram, Cheryl “Shirl” Clement, of Milford; Aunt Tracy Morin, her husband Kevin, and their children Brittany, Taylor and Cassie, of Limington; “Nana and Ga” Denise Morrill and her husband, Jim, of Orrington; “Grampy Ken and Mimi” Ken McGraw and his wife, Robin, of Holden; “Bampi” Tom Atherton, of Bucksport; and aunt, “Oom” Naomi McGraw and her daughters, Destiny and Morgan McGraw-Low, of Brooks. He was predeceased by his grandfather, John Basso; great-grandmother, Rose Basso; cousins, Cody Basso and Brandon Basso, and Cheyenne “Chey” Morrill; Great Grammy, Charlotte Atherton Eastman; Great Grampy, John Meenan Jr.; Great Grammy Jean McGraw; and Great Grammy, Ethelyn “Effie” Morrill.
