Richard J. Luisi - June 07, 1953 - April 04, 2022

Departed: 04/04/2022 (Vienna)
Obituary Preview: Richard J. Luisi, 68, of Marietta, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on April 4, 2022, after a long illness.
Rich was born and raised in North Plainfield, New Jersey and was the son of the late Joseph C. Luisi and Nancy Palocee Luisi.  A graduate of North Plainfield High School, he attended Newark State College (now Kean University) for a year while working part time at Electrolux Corporation as a door-to-door sales representative to pay his tuition. He was so successful in direct sales that he decided to leave college and devote himself to building a career with Electrolux. Due to his determination and unfailing optimism, he became the ultimate salesman. Over a period of 18 years, he amassed a customer base of over 35,000 people. During that time, he was the National Sales Champion at Electrolux five times.   His success and natural leadership ability led him into management, where he quickly progressed through the ranks, holding every position in the sales department from salesman to Executive Vice President of Sales, North America, a position he held for twenty years. His career at Electrolux (presently Aerus) spanned more than 50 years. During his tenure, he put together a team that carried out many positive changes in the company, including converting hundreds of retail branches to franchises, and helping to add air and water purification to the product line.   Rich’s accomplishments extended beyond his own personal success to supporting the growth and success of others. His leadership skills earned him the respect of many of those whose lives he touched and mentored over the years. He believed in setting an example of hard work and going the extra mile. He was generous with his praise of others—nothing was more gratifying to him than seeing them achieve their goals.   Traveling the world on Electrolux/Aerus trips and conventions with his wife Janet was one of the many rewards for his hard work. He won trips every year, which took them to well over thirty countries and great destinations in the U.S. He was especially proud of being 100% Italian and loved to visit Italy. Along with travel, Rich loved fishing, golf, baseball, nature, participating in the Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Troop Leader, and working on projects at home. But most of all, Rich was a devoted family man. He would have given anything for more years to spend with them. He is survived by his wife, Janet Groves Luisi; a son David Luisi; a  daughter-in-law, Wen Qin; two brothers Joe and Tom; a nephew, Joseph and fiancé Justine; plus Aunt Linda, Aunt Eileen; many cousins.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, April 9 in Vienna City Cemetery with Rev. Brian Leverett officiating.   A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, April 25 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church Street, Marietta, Georgia. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 am followed by a service at 11:00 and a reception.

Kenneth David West - December 06, 1968 - December 23, 2021

Departed: 12/23/2021 (Vienna)
Obituary Preview: Kenneth David West, age 53, of 1044 Priest Road, Vienna, died Thursday, December 23, 2021, at his residence.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, David was the son of the late Kenneth Lamar West and Laverne Ann Ratterree West. His grandparents were the late James Ralph Ratterree and Bessie Pitts Ratterree. He was preceded in death by Elizabeth Ratterree Black, James Roy Ratterree, Linda Ratterree Evans, and Dorothy Ratterree Mathews.
He thought that being kind to animals was as important as was being kind to others. David was a shock and awe type personality with the horrible jokes and self deprecating humor. They would make you groan and that was what he wanted. They were so bad! He was a lover of old southern rock music, Andy Griffin, and all of the old television favorites of his youth. David lived a very solitary life and that’s something he chose. After his Mom and Aunt Dot passed, he was lost because those 2 ladies were his life’s purpose for many years. He traveled to North Carolina and north Georgia, working hard manual labor wherever he could, and when he had made peace in his life and had found God, he came back to settle in south Georgia. David had many different health issues, some brought on by hard living. Many thought he was older than his 53 years because of his gray hair and beard but in reality, he was proud to have people say he looked just like his Granddaddy, Ralph!  He is now very happy to be home with his Mom and other relatives that preceded him in death. He believed in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and he had spoken many times of his forgiveness of others, and of his love for all. He is truly happy and at peace, and that’s something we all can strive for in our lives. David was a kind and gentle soul and his love for Peanut and Buttercup was such that his final wish was that both dogs be adopted together. That was his number one request should  anything happen to him. He would be very happy to know that came true!
He is survived by his many 1st and 2nd cousins. He leaves good friends, Thomas, Angie, and Trina, plus numerous others, just because he was that kind of guy. He never met a stranger and when he did, they were quickly won over.
No services will be held.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including biographical information, funeral or memorial service details, and often a photo of the deceased. It serves as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the life of the deceased, providing closure for those who are grieving, and serving as a historical record of the person's life. They also help inform others of the passing and provide details about funeral services and memorial contributions.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary usually falls on family members, close friends, or a funeral home director. In some cases, a professional obituary writer may be hired to craft the notice.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased person's name, age, date of birth and death, surviving family members, education and work history, hobbies and interests, and funeral or memorial service details. Optional elements may include a photo, achievements, awards, or personal anecdotes.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise yet informative, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, often limited to basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary, on the other hand, provides more detailed biographical information and may include additional elements like photos or personal stories.

Where are obituaries typically published?

Obituaries are commonly published in local newspapers, online obituary platforms, funeral home websites, and social media. Some families also choose to create a private online memorial or blog to share memories and updates.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Newspaper rates can range from $50 to several hundred dollars, while online platforms may offer free or low-cost options.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it is possible to write your own obituary in advance. This approach can ensure that your life story is told accurately and with your own voice. Many people find it helpful to reflect on their accomplishments and values when writing their own obituary.

What is the purpose of an obituary photo?

An obituary photo serves as a visual representation of the deceased person, helping readers connect with them on a personal level. It can be a recent photo or one from a memorable time in their life.

Can I include humor or personality in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the deceased. Including humorous anecdotes or quirky traits can make the notice more engaging and authentic.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about submission guidelines and deadlines. Be prepared to provide necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I edit or revise an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, revisions can be made before publication. However, once an obituary is printed or posted online, changes may be difficult or impossible to make. It's essential to proofread carefully before submitting the final version.

What if I need to correct errors in an already-published obituary?

If you discover errors in an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform immediately to request corrections. They may issue a revised version or publish a correction notice.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial contributions in an obituary?

Yes! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased person's legacy.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

Treat sensitive information with care and discretion. Consider omitting details that might cause discomfort for surviving family members or friends. Focus on celebrating the person's life rather than revealing potentially hurtful facts.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has been deceased for many years?

Absolutely! Writing an obituary for someone who passed away years ago can still serve as a meaningful tribute and provide closure for those who are grieving. You can publish it online or share it privately with family and friends.

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for a child or young adult?

Yes! When writing an obituary for a child or young adult, focus on celebrating their life, accomplishments, and potential. Be sensitive to the emotional needs of surviving family members and friends.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Incorporating meaningful quotes or song lyrics can add depth and personality to an obituary. Choose phrases that resonate with the deceased person's values, interests, or sense of humor.

Vet information through multiple sources whenever possible. Verify dates, names, and facts to ensure accuracy and avoid mistakes that might cause confusion or distress.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Can I republish an existing obituary at a later date?

In some cases, yes! If you want to re-share an existing obituary on a special anniversary or occasion, check with the original publication or platform for permission. You may need to obtain copyright clearance or follow specific guidelines.

Are there any cultural or religious considerations when writing an obituary?

Absolutely! Be mindful of cultural and religious traditions when crafting an obituary. Research specific customs and conventions related to death announcements within different communities.

How do I preserve an online obituary over time?

Create a digital archive by saving copies of online obituaries to your computer or cloud storage services like Google Drive or Dropbox. You may also consider printing out physical copies for safekeeping.
