Obituary Preview: JoAnne Gilmore, age 75, of Boulder City, passed away April 3, 2022 at her home surrounded by her two beloved daughters, two loyal dogs and her friends, Monte and Jeannine, who helped care give her final year.  She was born on August 9, 1946 in White Plains, NY, to Carl Light and Rita Anabell Capparella Light.  In her younger years, she moved to Southern California, where she met and married Russell James Gilmore on May 10, 1969.  Russell preceded her in death May 23, 2016.  They had moved to Boulder City in 1984 from Reno, NV, previously from Riverside, CA.
JoAnne was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and Nana.  She showed her love in a quiet manner, with open ears ready to listen, give caring advice or a shoulder to cry on. She gave generously without ever expecting anything in return, and never wanted to burden anyone with her sorrows and worries.  She was a kind and soft-spoken woman, who loved doing for others, and always made holidays and birthdays extra special occasions for her loved ones.
Besides spending time with her family, she enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, shopping, gardening, decorating for the holidays and home improvement. She took extreme pride in her beautiful home and spent countless hours doing home improvement projects, and tending her garden, over the almost 30 years she and Russ lived there.  Many neighbors and passersby would often comment about how much they loved the home, and it looked like a "photo from a magazine".  Her creativity always kept her busy.
All of her pets were precious to her; past and present. Friends and family would often joke that if they were reincarnated, they would like to come back as one of her pets. Over her lifetime she had many; horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits, birds, tortoises and fish. Many of her pets were rescues, and you could find her almost daily at the dog park.
She is survived by her two daughters Tiffany (Robert) Martin of Henderson, NV, Krista (Kyle Hammond) Gilmore of Boulder City, NV; three grandchildren Owen, Connor and Lucy.  She is also survived by her two dogs, Chance and Nellie. Departed: 03/27/2022 (Boulder City)
Obituary Preview: Christo (Rico) Georgieff Stojanoff, 87, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away of heart  failure on March 27, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kalinka and Georgi. Christo left behind his wife Christine of  58 years, his sons George and Michael, and his grandchildren Bianca and Ruby.
Born in Letnitsa, Bulgaria, he spent his youth in Russe before moving to Sofia where he attended high  school and earned a Masters degree in Power Engineering from the University of Sofia. His happiest  childhood memories were summers on the family farm in Doyrentsi with grandparents, uncles, aunts  and cousins.
Christo lived through the Communist change in Bulgaria and chose the local mountain climbing club  instead of joining the Communist party as a leader in training. The mountain climbing club brought  him to Dresden, Germany where he enrolled as a Ph.D. student and met his wife Christine. Caught up  in the turmoil of the Cold War, Christo emigrated to the West in 1961 by crossing the Iron Curtain in  Berlin days after it was announced. Christo became a naturalized American in 1962 and moved to New  York City to work for Riverside Research Institute while taking night classes at Columbia University to earn his Ph.D. In 1967 he earned a Humboldt Fellowship which allowed him to complete his Ph.D. in  Plasma Physics at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Christo was a prolific and innovative scientist becoming an expert in a wide range of fields including  plasma physics, thermodynamics, spectroscopy, solar energy, holography and chemistry. He ran the  thermodynamics laboratory for the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Germany (RWTH) during the 1970s, the solar institute  for Desert Research Institute, Nevada (UNLV) in the 1980s and his own High Temperature  Thermodynamics Institute at RWTH during the 1990s. He graduated more than 25 Ph.D.'s, published  numerous peer reviewed scientific papers and had a continuous flow of active research projects over  his 40 year scientific career. Christo described himself as an experimental physicist and colleagues  called him a "one man department."
When the Iron Curtain fell in 1989, Christo was finally able to reunite with his mother Kalinka who he  had not seen in 30 years. The change allowed Christo to reconnect with his homeland and recover  several family properties. Christo loved Bulgaria, its people, cuisine and traditions. In retirement,  Christo and Christine spent 17 happy years living and traveling between Nevada, Germany and  Bulgaria. Their summers in the small Black Sea coastal town of Sinemorets were especially happy. In  2017, Christo organized a summer long trip through Bulgaria for the whole family which we will never forget.
Christo was an intellectual power house, scientist, engineer, student of history, story teller, counselor,  teacher and wonderful husband and father who never shied away from challenges or setbacks. He had a dynamic mind with a life lived all across the world to prove it. He re-invented himself several times  and was always forward looking in life.
Christo will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 8th at 10:00 am at Grace Community Church, 1150  Wyoming Street, Boulder City, Nevada.

John Frederick Wilson - March 16, 1932 - February 28, 2022

Departed: 02/28/2022 (Boulder City)
Obituary Preview: John F. ‘Jack’ Wilson, 89
Jack Wilson, 89, died peacefully February 28, 2022, with his wife Gale and family by his side at home in Boulder City, NV.
There will be a brief internment ceremony for Jack that is yet to be scheduled.
Jack was born March 16, 1932, in Akron, OH to Dawson and Effie Wilson.  As with many of his generation, he grew up with his father away fighting in the World War II – Lt. Col. Dawson Wilson spent a lot of time in the African theater. His mother, Effie, was left at home raising Jack and his kid sister, Perry.  Jack had an active mind and used it throughout his life.  His high school years were spent at Western Reserve Academy to add another perspective to his early years.  While at Western Reserve Academy Jack met Sue Calvin at a formal dance.  They became friends and started dating.
After Western Reserve he received a full scholarship to Yale University to study electrical engineering.  His studies resulted in a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  At the urging of his advisors, he begin his career with a job at Hughes Aircraft in 1956.
In 1954, while at Yale, Jack married Sue Calvin and together they raised 5 children until their divorce in 1976.
Hughes Aircraft brought Jack to the west coast in 1956.  Jack’s initial assignment at Hughes Aircraft placed him in charge of developing technology needed for the Lockheed F-104 to target and lock on to an opposing aircraft.  Jack loved the challenge this presented: identifying the target, delivering a weapon to that target and in a way that destroys the target.  He envisioned this successful project as his doctorate research and thesis.
Jack held several positions of distinction at different large companies while honing his business skills in the years after Hughes.  In 1971 he, Sue and the kids were in Frederick, Maryland.  He was made president of Frederick Electronics- a subsidiary of Plantronics Inc.  His experience to date got him acquainted to a host of quality talent including Marv, Dan, Luke, Chuck.  Jack knew talent and recruited all these people to make the Frederick subsidiary one of the top earners in the field of international communications.
Fate played a huge part in Jack’s life and fate introduced him to Joanne Spurrier Smith.  They grew close and eventually married.  Jack, Joanne and Joanne’s son Terry embarked on a new series of adventures (travelling, scuba diving and flying) until her untimely death in 2001.  These adventures led Jack to become a pilot.  In scuba diving and flying Jack overcame his fears of water and heights – always challenging himself to grow and change.
In the mid 80’s, Jack’s next move in the corporate world was to accept a vice president position at ITT World Communications in New York. For several years he oversaw a special project in London.  Jack’s years of success enabled him to retire in Nevada in 1997.
It was during retirement that Jack became involved with the Power Squadron at Lake Mead. He taught classes in boat piloting and safety.  Jack claimed teaching was a true joy for him.  In addition, to his time on the water and teaching about being on the water Jack relished hiking desert trails.  It became a daily passion as he hiked up the mountains behind his home.
Jack dealt with Joanne’s passing in 2001 by adopting a true positive outlook about life.  The positive outlook made him focus on the good things in his life and move forward to enjoy the positive things that life had to offer.  It was a game changer for Jack.
Jack met Gale Westphall in 2006 and they became good friends and eventually married in 2007.  The two adopted a rescued Jack Russell terrier and named him Dusty.  Jack and Dusty were great pals.  Dusty, and his exploits, helped bring new life to the Wilson home.  In these years talking to Jack meant talking about his football program.  He loved crosswords, maps, and football. Some things to know about Jack:
His gift for rewriting lyrics to songs. He holds 3 patents.  At least one of them was a radical change (forward) in routing phone calls. He could train cats. He’s a member of the Million Mile Club multiple times. He never knew a fear he didn't conquer, a challenge he couldn't meet or a puzzle he couldn't master. * He was always quick with a helping hand, a caring heart, or a side-splitting quip. Jack was at home when discovering.
Jack is survived by his wife, Gale; sister, Perry Somerville; his 6 children and their spouses, John and Karen Wilson; Kim and Craig Rhodes; Elesa and Wayne Miller; Doug and Cindy Jay Wilson; Amy and Leonard Maughan; Terry and Karla Spurrier; stepchildren Marnie and Greg Thiel; and 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
