Obituary Preview: Raymond “Ert” Konkoleski, 87, of Adena, Ohio died on Sunday March 13, 2022.
He was born on September 16, 1934, and was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna (Talik) Konkoleski, a brother, Herman, and three sisters, Helen Bednarski, Jenny Kobus, and Victoria Hatcher.
He is survived by his wife, Lois (Raymer), his son R.J. and his wife Laura (Glenn), and grandchildren Catherine and Ray, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ray loved baseball. He compiled a career record of 66 wins and 57 losses and a 3.48 ERA in his 258-game pitching career with the Jacksonville Beach Sea Birds, Spartanburg Peaches, Fayetteville Highlanders, Mobile Bears, and Reading Indians.  His love for the sport lasted his entire life as he coached youth ball in Adena teaching the fundamentals of the game and working with young aspiring pitchers well into his 80’s.
Ray was a coal miner for Hanna and Consol Coal. He served in the United States Army, was a fireman with the Adena Volunteer Fire Company, a member of St. Casimir’s Catholic Church, longtime financial secretary for UMWA Local #1360. He was a member of the Adena Lions Club, the VFW, and the Adena American Legion.
Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who never met a stranger and had a kind word for everyone.
Visitation will be held Friday March 18, 2022, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Borkoski Funeral Home, 60 South Bridge Street, Adena. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church with Monsignor John Kolesar as celebrant. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery, Harrisville.

Helen is survived by her niece Deborah Pavlov of Centerville, Ohio.

Catherine Rose Beck - October 03, 1936 - January 26, 2022

Obituary Preview: Catherine Rose Beck, 85, of Pleasant Grove, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday January 26, 2022, at The Meadows of Cadiz.
Catherine was born in Dillonvale, Ohio on October 3, 1936, the only daughter of the late Wilbur and Catherine (Gasda) Woods.
In addition to her parents, Catherine is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Kent Beck, and her brothers Richard Woods and Dr. John Woods.  Catherine is survived by her brother; Dr. Joseph (Dianne) Woods, sister-in-law Barbara Woods, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Catherine lived a full and gracious life. She had a long and successful career at Peoples National Bank and was a former officer at the bank.  She thought of her colleagues at the bank as friends and enjoyed knowing them for so many years.  When not working, Catherine was a loving daughter who selflessly cared for her own mother for most of her life.  She did it tirelessly without complaint and only with love.  She was a lifelong Catholic and a dedicated member of St. Casimir Catholic Church.  Catherine spent many hours volunteering at St. Casimir’s and would always do for others before doing for herself.  Whether she was collecting the books after church on Sundays or even helping to clean the church, she was always willing to help.  She was also a member of the Catholic Women’s Club (CWC) at St. Casimir Catholic Church.  In her free time, Catherine enjoyed reading, gardening, antiquing and refinishing.  She was an avid reader with an extensive book collection.  Her gardens that she planted in her younger years were abundant with every kind of vegetable and beautiful flowers.  Also, one of her greatest loves was for animals.  Catherine was a lifelong animal lover.  She never met a stray animal that she didn’t take in as her own.  She rescued and saved numerous stray cats and dogs in her lifetime and championed every cause that she was able to that supported the welfare and protection of all animals.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 8, 2022, at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Hanna Avenue, Adena, with Msgr. John Kolesar as celebrant.
All of those who knew Catherine are invited and encouraged to attend to celebrate her life.  A private viewing will be held before the Tuesday Mass from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for family and close friends only at Borkoski Funeral Home, 60 South Bridge Street, Adena, OH 43901. Interment will be private at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Carol Sue Hill - October 06, 1944 - October 07, 2021

Obituary Preview: Carol Sue (Thompson) Hill, 77, Adena, Ohio, traded her earthly body on October 7, 2021, and went to walk among the angels after a heroic 8-year battle with cancer.
Born October 6, 1944, in Adena, Ohio, she was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Lila Thompson, brothers William (Doris) Durbin and Robert Thompson, and sister, Luella (Raymond) Bailey, and most recently by her husband, Terry Hill.  Left behind to cherish her memory are her sister, Mary Lou (Larry) Bartrug, daughters Tammy Theriot (Scott Nifong) and Diana Hill (Tee) Thompson, and sons Dwain (Krysta) Hill and Randy (Iris) Cologie, and Mark (Misty) Touville; sister in law Betty Thompson,  grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was a 1962 graduate of Adena High School and a member of Post 525 American Legion Auxiliary where she had been past president, treasurer, and poppy day chair.  She was a member of the Adena United Methodist Church, but more importantly, a woman of faith.
Carol Sue was a daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to all she met, but more importantly she was a Mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, team mother, band mother, class mother and “like-a-mother” to other’s kids - - and ALL these kids were proud to call her mom.   In her career with the Jefferson County Library System, her work with the summer reading program at Adena Library touched the lives of many local children.
She was small but mighty, battling Lymphoma like a heavyweight. She would tell you “if you get the choice to sit it out or dance, just dance.” The family would like to thank Dr. Porsche Beetham and Dr. Mohammad Rahman and their staffs, the Teramana Cancer Center, and Valley Hospice, as well as friends and family members who have been by our side or kept us close in prayer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband George Brokaw on 7/6/1985; four sisters: Mary Carter, June Holt, Isabelle Singer, Carrie Josefczyk; granddaughter Gina Veronesi; great-granddaughter Joey Rose.
Wilda is survived by three daughters: Georgia (Bill) Veronesi, Judy (William) Beuth, Janice (Don) Bernosky; a son George (Chris) Brokaw Jr. eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Wilda was a lifetime member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisville, Ohio serving as an elder, Sunday School teacher and belonged to Womans Missionary Society.  She was a homemaker, taking care of her family and extended family. She was a resident of Adena for 82 years, moving here in 1939.
Friends will be received Friday July 16, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church of Harrisville, with Rev. Barry Hall officiating.  Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
