Wes was born on October 3, 1947, in Springfield, the son of Albert H. and Mary Hood Pierceall. He married Colleen Werner on April 10, 1971.
Wes was a graduate of Riverton High School. Wes worked as an executive at Springfield Airport and at Richmond International Airport. He loved fishing, working, and spending time with his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Slagle; infant son, Michael; his parents; and brother, John Pierceall.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Colleen Pierceall of Springfield; two daughters, Tonna Little and Terri Pierceall; special grandsons, Tim Pierceall and Ben Little; special granddaughter, Mallory; special great-granddaughter, Leah; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four siblings, Hardy and Pat Pierceall, Judy Stabler, and Mary Thornton; brother-in-law, Chuck Werner; friend, David Hulett; and several nieces and nephews.
Private family ceremonies will be held.

Linda E. Howard - December 12, 1938 - August 25, 2023

Linda was born December 12, 1938, in Jefferson City, MO, the daughter of Anthony Joseph and Opal V. Walls Lauck. She married John Richard Howard in 1959; he preceded her in death on March 7, 2006.
Linda was employed as an assistant to Governor and Mrs. Edgar at the governor’s mansion. She also owned and operated Fleetwood Restaurant in Springfield and River Ridge in Petersburg with her husband. Linda retired from the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture as a program coordinator for quarter horse racing in 2012. She and her husband were members of Midwest Charity Horse Show, American Morgan Horse Association, and the United States Trotting Association.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Daniel Lauck, and grandson, Brandon Howard.
Linda is survived by her sons, Scott (Patty) Howard of Fairview Heights, Curtis (Kim) Howard of Rochester, and Randy (Jody) Howard of Springfield; 11 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1960 and earned her associate degree from Lincoln Land Community College. Kay then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University. She was employed at St. John’s Hospital for twelve years, Contact Ministries for seven years, and was a preschool teacher for six years. Kay enjoyed traveling, caring for her garden, reading, and collecting handkerchiefs and Irish items. Kay loved spending time with her family, and her most rewarding accomplishment was raising her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Peggy Havenar, Earl Hanselman, Jr., Michael and his wife, Billie Hanselman, Charles Hanselman, and Janet Carls.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Angie Meneghetti and Amie C. Meneghetti, both of Springfield; sons, Anthony Meneghetti of Lafayette, CO, and Nick (wife, Elisha) Meneghetti of Rockford, IL; and several nieces and nephews, including her very special niece, Cindy Miller of Fort Myers, FL.

Hiram was born March 30, 1928, in Springfield, IL, the son of Lyman “Earl” and Florence Barnes Phillips. He married Gaile Callbeck on March 22, 1958, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on February 21, 2020.
Hiram was 3rd generation owner of Phillips Brothers Printer and a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Hiram was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Springfield. He was the longest member of the Island Bay Yacht Club and former board member of Lincoln Memorial Gardens. Hiram was an avid photographer, liked sailing and playing bridge. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Lyman Phillips; and sister, Constance Feldhausen
Hiram is survived by his daughters, Sally (Dave) Jones and Katie (Jack) Marinelli, both of Springfield, IL; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, David Phillips of Springfield; close family friend, Doris Prather; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family visitation and burial with Military Honors will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial service to celebrate Hiram’s life will be 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. Seventh Street in Springfield.

David graduated from Lincoln High School. He was a long time manager with Shop-n-Save on Wabash Ave. and then retired from the North Grand location. David was a member of the Springfield Coin Club. He had a huge heart and was always willing to help out or lend a hand. David was also very humble and had a great laugh. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan and was known as the Disney/Mickey Mouse guy. He gave great advice and loved his dogs, gardening, and was known for his flowers and spinners. David’s greatest joy was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phyllis Craycraft; and his grand dog, Zamboni.
David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Paula Tolbert of Springfield and daughter, Carrie Tolbert of Springfield.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Avenue West, Springfield, IL.

George served his country in the United States Navy and ILARNG. He earned an accounting degree from Sangamon State and worked with the State of IL as a Senior Revenue Auditor. He had a strict morning routine of attending the YMCA for a workout. George enjoyed comics, board games, 3-D printing, creating miniatures, and playing Dungeons & Dragons. George was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Patrick B. (wife, Lahni) O’Ravis of Chatham, IL; two daughters, Jennifer L. “Missy” (husband, Paul) Petersen of Springfield and Rustin A. (husband, Chris) Peak of Springfield; five grandchildren, Alexandra K. Nichols, Tyler A. and Paige N. Woods, Cameron Peak, and Brendon Petersen; three great-grandchildren, Justin and Jaxon Nichols, and Carter Woods; and two siblings, Larry T. O’Ravis of Springfield and Carolyn (husband, Ray) Kunz of Valencia, California.

Shirley was a graduate of New Berlin High School. She worked as a dental technician for many years prior to working as a pharmacy technician for 20 years with Curry’s Family Pharmacy. Shirley was a mom/grandma to many and she kept them all in line. In her younger years, she loved roller skating at Moonlight Gardens. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, dancing and listening to music, and visits to the boat in Peoria and St. Louis. Shirley could often be found at Strike & Spare Lanes participating in the bowling league.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Shawn and Wyatt Nation; her parents; and eight siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Christina (husband, Jerry) Nation of Springfield; grandchildren, Gregory (companion, Ashlyn Lessen) Tucker of Lincoln and Justin Nation of Loami, IL; great-grandchildren, Landyn, Blakely, Taymen, Henley, and Braelyn Tucker; several additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Obituary Preview: Rebecca “Becky” Eileen (Briggs) Page, formerly Rebecca Eileen Matheson, passed away at her residence in Springfield on July 17, 2023. Rebecca was born on September 21, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan. She was the third child and only daughter born to Robert Eugene Briggs and Garnett Eileen (Lefler) Briggs. She grew up in Bath, Michigan; Bad Axe, Michigan; Bay City, Michigan; and Belvidere, Illinois. During her high school years she played the flute in the school band and lived through an F4 tornado which hit Belvidere on April 21, 1967. She graduated from Belvidere High School in June of 1968. On August 23, 1969, she married David L. Matheson and later joined him during his Navy service in Gaetta, Italy.
She and David moved back to Springfield, Illinois following his naval service and had two children, Rachel Matheson Ommen and David W. Matheson. She divorced David L. Matheson and later married Kenneth Page. After her divorce from Ken, she kept that last name for the remainder of her life. She completed her bachelor’s degree in education at UIS, served at Central Baptist Church, taught aerobic classes at Elaine Powers and at Springfield Racquet Ball and Fitness Center. She also went on to fill classrooms at District 186. Becky loved to roller skate and to attend music festivals. She enjoyed horses and loved her dogs and her grand-dogs.
She is survived by her brother, Stephen E. Briggs; sister in law, Susan Clause Briggs; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her daughter, Rachel Matheson Ommen, her son in law, Jon Ommen, and their children, Eli, Sophie, Simeon and Ruby. Additionally, she is survived by her son, David W. Matheson and her daughter–in- law, Tara (Tyler) Matheson.

Judge Richard H. Mills - July 19, 1929 - July 16, 2023

Obituary Preview: Judge Richard H. Mills, 93, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 19, 1929, in Beardstown, IL, to States Attorney Myron E. Mills and Helen Greve Mills.
In 1962, he married Rachel Keagle, who passed away in 2020. He is survived by their sons, Dr. Jon (Nadine) Mills of Ajax, Ontario, and Attorney Daniel Cass Mills of Springfield. Also surviving are three granddaughters, McKensi Rae (Evan) Mills Patterson of Peterborough, Ontario, Chloe Gorsky Mills of Toronto, Ontario, Ivy Briana Mills of Ajax, Ontario, and one great-grandchild, Finn Mills Patterson.
Judge Mills was a United States District Judge for the Central District of IL. He was nominated by President Ronald Reagan and sworn in on August 27, 1985.
From 1976 until 1985, he was a Justice of the Appellate Court of IL (where he authored over 1150 opinions), and before that served 10 years as an Illinois Circuit Judge. Prior to his judicial career, Judge Mills was State’s Attorney of Cass County, served as Legal Advisor to the IL Youth Commission, and was a country lawyer with offices in Virginia, IL, where his grandfather opened a law office in 1870.
Judge Mills sat many times on courts of appeal around the country by designation of the Chief Justice of the U.S. He sat on eight of the thirteen circuits and authored over 177 opinions and dispositions.
He was the author of numerous legal articles published in professional journals, was a member of the IL Supreme Court Rules Committee for 23 years, served as a member of the IL Law Enforcement Commission, and was a member of the Advisory Board of the National Institute of Corrections, U.S. Department of Justice.
Judge Mills received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Illinois College, where he was a varsity debater and orator, his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Mercer University, where he was 4th in his class and on the editorial board of the MERCER LAW REVIEW, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the University of Virginia.
Judge Mills was a distinguished Eagle Scout and served two terms as President of the Abraham Lincoln Council at Springfield. Judge Mills, his two sons, two brothers, four nephews, and two great-nephews were all Eagle Scouts.
He was a Major General in the Illinois State Militia and a retired Colonel in the Army of the United States. His military career spanned 33 years, on active and reserve duty, having served in Combat Engineers, Military Intelligence, Counter Intelligence, and the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. General Mills served on active duty in Korea during the Korean War with the 3rd Infantry Division, where he received the Bronze Star. During his 14 months in Korea, he served as intelligence and counterintelligence under the G-2 of the 3rd Division, Major John S.D. Eisenhower, son of the President.
During his active and reserve service, he graduated from the United States Army Counterintelligence Corps School, the Army Judge Advocate General Schools, the Army Command and General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He held numerous reserve assignments, including Commander of SSS Detachment 5-2, headquartered at Springfield.
In addition to his Bronze Star, his other decorations include two army Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with Battle Star. He also holds both the U.S. and Korean President Unit Citations.
Ceremonies will be private and burial will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

Diana worked for Rochester Schools and finished her career, after 31 years, with the Illinois State Police.

David was born on January 13, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of David Henry Berry, Sr. and Eleanor A. Berry. He married Beverly May Maulding on May 14, 1960, in Springfield. He and Beverly recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary together.
David earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and retired from the State of IL, Department of Transportation after 37 years as a Materials Engineer. He was an 83-year member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and a quartet for many years and tutored math for kids at the church. After Elliott Avenue Baptist Church’s closing, he and Beverly joined First Baptist Church-Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Berry of Springfield; one son, Randall (wife, Ju Chien Hsu) Berry of Evanston, IL; two grandchildren, Mason and Ian Berry; and three siblings, Eleanor Land of Literberry, IL, Nancy Smith of Beardstown, IL, and Thomas (wife, Julie) Berry of Washington.
He had wide interests that included being an amazing artist, designing and building RC airplanes, playing golf (and building golf clubs), reading about modern physics, and watching classic movies.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who took great joy in his grandchildren and watching his son be a great father.
Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Avenue West, Springfield. Tom went to both Springfield High School and Chatham Glenwood High School. In his early years, he was a self-employed builder. Tom then became an insurance agent with John Hancock and retired from sales with Wolters Kluwer in 2014. He was an acoustic guitarist and also played harmonica. Tom enjoyed fishing, brewing beer, gardening, and was quite the storyteller.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen G. Beverly; his wife, Phyllis Beverly; his parents; and brothers, Kevin and Michael Beverly.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Beverly of Glenarm; five children, April Bridges, Thomas (wife, Carmen) Beverly, Heather (husband, Jason) Konzelmann, Dylan Beverly and Lauren (husband, Zack) Zimmermann; eight grandchildren, Nathan Beverly, Katrina Beverly, Keegan Bridges, Summer Bridges, Shelby (husband, Brandon) Lucas, Jayden Beverly, Carly Konzelmann and Audrey Konzelmann; and three siblings, Steven (wife, Connie) Beverly, Elizabeth (husband, Ron) Ott, and Kenny (wife, Maureen) Beverly.

Jackie was a graduate of Springfield High School and attended Western IL University in Macomb. Her passion for children led her to teach third grade prior to the time when she and Clarke started their family. After their children were grown, she taught nursery school, for decades, at the First Congregational Church. Jackie, affectionately known as “Gras” by her grandchildren, enjoyed staying active by exercising and speed walking, which she continued well into her late eighties. For those who knew Jackie, it is not surprising to know that she always timed herself on her early morning speed walks to Washington Park. Jackie was a member of Chapter EO of PEO for 50 years and a member of Grateful Daughters Circle of the King’s Daughters Organization. Jackie was also a member of J.U.G.s (Just Us Girls), a lifelong group of girlfriends that originated during her high school years.
Jackie, along with Clarke, lived independently in their family’s home until just a few months ago. This included her baking cookies for Clarke and friends, and her spunkily driving her cherished, pepper white Mini Cooper around town.
She is survived by her husband, Clarke Woodruff of Springfield; daughter, Beth (husband, Max) Plzak of Vail, CO; son, Bill (wife, Crystal) Woodruff of Folsom, CA; five grandchildren, Eric (wife, Laura) Woodruff of Pleasanton, CA, Evan Woodruff of San Francisco, CA, Ali Plzak of Los Angeles, CA, Alec Plzak of San Diego, CA, and Audrey Plzak of Santa Clara, CA; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Miles Woodruff; and one much loved, twin sister, Marcia Lynn (husband, Chuck) Schramm of Deerfield, IL with whom she spoke almost daily throughout her life.
Jackie will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony.

She worked at First National Bank from 1944 to 1946 and for the State of Illinois between 1946 and 1991, including the Department of Public Health Vital Statistics, Department of Revenue, and Department of Public Aid.
Louise enjoyed the company of family and friends and knitted in her spare time, creating dozens of beautiful afghans. She was a generous soul, donating to many charities and showering all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with cash and gifts on every birthday and holiday. Louise had been a member of Jerome United Methodist Church since the 1960s and remained a member after moving to Green Bay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mary Virginia Dawkins, brothers William “Dub” Russel and James Russel, and son William C. Neat. She is survived by sister-in-law Penny Russel of Springfield, daughter Mary (Nick) Simonelli of Brewster, New York, daughter Kathy (Todd) Gallion of Pulaski, Wisconsin, grandchildren Jennifer, Steven, Adam, and Douglas, and great-grandchildren Alexandra and Gabrielle.

Maureen was born May 29, 1942, in London, England during the Blitz, and her heart never left. She married David George Ratcliffe and he preceded her in death. Maureen later married Ronald “Ron” Earley in 1995 at Historic Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield, IL; he preceded her in death on September 23, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Cosma and Ivy Sweeney Apicella; and son, Jeremy Appicella.
Maureen attended Burlington Grammar School for Girls and the City of London College. She was active in the Girl Guides (equivalent of Girl Scouts) achieving her Queen’s guide and met the Queen when attending a jamboree. After her marriage to David, she lived in England, Wales, Holland and Germany. On her return to England as a widow, she supported her three sons and worked as a social worker. Maureen eventually became a volunteer director and fundraiser for a major health group, where she made a significant impact on volunteering in the UK and talking across the UK about bereavement volunteers. Maureen also set up and organized training for hospital staff and volunteers for two major UK charities. She worked to set up the hospice movement in the UK and was a national trustee for Leukemia Care and Cruse. For her work, Maureen was nominated for an award of an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).
After her marriage to Ron, Maureen came to Springfield and became the executive director of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. “She couldn’t have had a better introduction to America, everyone was so kind and supportive”. Maureen and Ron traveled extensively in the United Kingdom and Europe during their marriage, where they met many new friends. She was a member of PEO, Sunnyside, and a former member of the Sangamo Club.
She adored her grandchildren and played an active part in their lives. Maureen was famous for scones and English tea in each of their classrooms every year. She lived to cook and entertain. Maureen was generous with help and love to her family and her extended family and friends.
Maureen is survived by her children, Christopher (Sara) Ratcliffe of Springfield and their children, Lucy, Elise, and Matilda Ratcliffe, Nicholas (Jill) Ratcliffe of Yorkshire, UK and their children, Emma (Paul Rothwell) Thompson, and Nathanial and Grace Ratcliffe, Amanda Ball of Eastbourne, New Zealand, and Paul (Ann) Earley of Pawnee, IL and their children, Dylan and Jordan Earley; great-grandchildren, Sonny and Teddy; step granddaughter, Ella (James) Swinley-Harmston, and their daughter, Remi; sister, Joan Cheek of London, England; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and beloved cats, Emmy and Mr. Night.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
