Michael Aubrey Southward - November 10, 1966 - April 24, 2024

Departed: 04/24/2024 (Richmond)
Obituary Preview: Southward, Michael Aubrey, 57, of Richmond, VA passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
As a long-time Richmonder, Michael graduated from Highland Springs High School before entering basic training for the United States Army (3 years), and serving in the United States Air National Guard. While serving, Michael serviced and maintained the military’s airplanes. Michael parlayed this service into an Aeronautical Studies degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. After college, Michael had a 29-year career with Verizon, maintaining phone service for the people of the Fan.
Michael was a cinematic storyteller with a 10,000-watt smile, when he talked people listened. And when people talked, he listened. Michael was a golfer, a skier, a fan of UVA sports & the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was an adventurer, an outdoorsman, a runner, a man of action who took advantage of the day and all it had to offer. He was lover of karaoke, both on- and off-stage, never missing an opportunity to belt out ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ or any other 80’s rock he grew up on. He was a multi-hyphenate, he was a Swiss Army knife, he was what he needed to be for whomever he was with. He was a charismatic, fun-loving soul. He will be missed.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, George Alexander Southward; a stillborn son, Gavin Chamberlain, and Solii, his most cherished border collie. He is survived by his wife, Melanie Katherine Hause-Southward; his step-son, Alex Koss (Jenn); his mother, Johannah “Sunni” Southward; sister, Michelle B. Watkins (Tracy); brothers, Danny A. Southward (Marsha) and Chris Enroughty (Kim); nieces and nephews, Cody (Theresa), Gracyn, Erin (Codey), Elise, Jordan, Matthew (Courtney), Michael and Cole. His many beloved cousins and his extended family by marriage will miss the value he added to their lives on every occasion.
Michael was everything to his family and friends, and they were everything to him. Thoughtful, caring, protective, he found joy in welcoming all into his home or around his firepit for a beer and a laugh. He found spiritual clarity after witnessing the baptizing of his wife and was strengthening his relationship with his creator. Life for those who knew him has changed forever and the pain of loss will be carried with those survived by. In the darkness of loss we take solace in the lightness of a peaceful and unburdened soul.
A Celebration of Life will be held, 2:00 P.M. April 30th at Bliley’s Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue.
As Michael loved all of the colors of nature, the family asks that you wear colors of sunsets and bring your favorite unframed photo for display.

Cindy’s zest for life knew no bounds. Beloved for her generous spirit, love of family, and mischievous sense of humor; it’s not surprising her last day among us brought a rare solar eclipse. With her bright smile and blue-eyed twinkle, Cindy lit up every room she entered.
In addition to her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Siegfied Liebert III. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Michael Ernest Crowder, their son, Charles Peyton Crowder (Elizabeth), her devoted sister Lucinda Liebert Day (Bill), brother, Charles Alan Liebert (Laura), her children, Pascal Dorset Brooks IV and Mary McCaslin Gee (Patrick), and six beloved grandchildren; Livi, Phillip, Anne Henri, PD, William, and Mack; and uncle Dr. H. A lifelong creative, Cindy learned the finer points of needlework from her grandmother (“Granzie”), inspiring her passion for needlepoint. She shared this love with her customers at Jermies in Richmond and Village Needlepoint in White Stone. From her father, she inherited a talent for gardening and cooking, a gift she passed to her son Chase. She cultivated Carter’s Creek Oysters, coaxed orchid blooms, baked braided loaves, and cherished long mornings spent “sipping and stitching” with her sister Lucy, by the fire in White Stone.
A longtime member of the Tuckahoe Woman’s Club, Cindy was also a tireless parent-volunteer, chairing St. Christopher’s Fall Festival in 2002. When the school newspaper identified her as “Cindy Crawford,” the typo brought her endless delight.
