Sylvia grew up surrounded by her large family and was the 7th born of 10 children. Sylvia attended St. Charles Convent High School in Trinidad and gained many long-term friendships. After completing high school, Sylvia married her childhood friend, John Albert Peters in 1966. Their first child was born, Michelle, and they migrated to New York for a new beginning. A few years later, they were blessed with their son Wendell. Sylvia was a devoted wife and stay-at-home mother, helping to raise her children until they were older. Sylvia had a passion for music and dancing, which made others happy when they saw her dancing and smiling. She loved her Soca music and is known for always saying, “Where’s the music?”. Sylvia always looked at the brighter things in life and never said a bad word about anyone. She enjoyed helping others, without expecting anything in return. She volunteered her time to give out food to those who were less fortunate and other activities throughout many years.
After retiring from Sears and Roebuck, Sylvia devoted her time to traveling to Florida and Trinidad and caring for her grandchildren.
Sylvia was a loving, kind wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle, son Wendell, Sharlene and four grandchildren, Damani, Layla, Najee and Kaitlin. Sylvia has joined her brothers, Selwyn, and Laurie, her sister Monica, and her nephew Sean in heaven.
We know that God is pleased to have one of his kind and generous angels back in his arms, where she belongs. She will be missed by those on earth. Goodbye to a wonderful woman.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Sylvia Peters to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
