Archie was born on September 18, 1946 to Harold and Tincie Freeman. He spent much of his adult life working for Maytag. Once he retired, he spent his time taking care of his home, his yard, his community and and even his cats, from whom he found a never-ending source of amusement. He was a member of Towee Falls Baptist Church. He loved his family and his church.
Preceded in death by parents, Harold and Tincie Freeman, brother and sister-in-law, Arlis and Thelma Freeman and brother-in-law Kenneth Merrell.
Archie is survived by brother and sister-in-law Heartley and Inez Freeman and sisters and brothers-in-law, Darlene and Norman “Bud” Jones, Diane and Walter Merrill, Margie and Curtiss Crowder, sister Rosie Merrell, children Kendall Freeman and Camesia Dean, sons and daughters-in law Shane and Jennifer Shaw, Jeremy and Rebecca Shaw, as well as five grandkids and seven great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Obituary Preview: Charles Dwayne Cardin, 84, of Tellico Plains, Monroe County, Tennessee, passed away on January 7, 2024. Born on June 1, 1939, in Ellenton, Colquitt County, Georgia, Charles, known to his loved ones as Dwayne, led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and accomplishments.
Dwayne was a beloved figure within his family and circles of friends. He had a captivating presence as a phenomenal storyteller and talented singer, enthralling and entertaining his audience, whether they be family, friends, or acquaintances.
Dwayne graduated from Pavo High School in Pavo, Georgia, a member of the eponymous Class of ‘57. Dwayne began his military service soon after in the US Army, serving until 1960. After his honorable discharge, he embarked on a successful career as a businessman, leaving an indelible mark on the resurgence of cotton production in Georgia during the 1970s. Dwayne became one of the largest cotton producers in the state, operating cotton gins in Lenox and Morven, Georgia, as well as a compress warehouse in Cordele. He was also a founding partner of Lowndes Gin Company in Valdosta and served on the board of Albany Oil Mill (Georgia), a cottonseed processor. Dwayne's expertise and passion for the industry led him to become actively involved in organizations such as the Southeastern Ginners Association, Southern Cotton Producers, and The National Cotton Council. He cherished the friendships he formed with fellow cotton growers throughout the United States.
In 1991, Dwayne made a significant change in his life, moving to Tellico Plains, Monroe County, Tennessee, the birthplace of his father, Diamond Cardin, and the ancestral home of the Cardin family since the War of 1812. Together with his wife, Cathy McElveen Turton Cardin, he purchased a picturesque cabin along the beautiful Tellico River. Dwayne and Cathy also built a highly regarded BBQ restaurant called Cardin's Landing in the area.
Later on, Dwayne relocated to Madisonville, where he found success selling and installing ice machines in Tennessee and Texas. After retiring, he returned to a family home in Tellico Plains, where he and Cathy renewed their vows on February 1, 2023. The couple spent their final year together happily in Cathy's home, surrounded by the breathtaking views of the ridges, valleys, and mountains that encompassed Tellico Plains.
Dwayne had a deep-rooted faith and was a member of Center Presbyterian Church. His spiritual journey was an integral part of his life, providing solace and guidance.
Outside of his military service and professional endeavors, Dwayne had a passion for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter throughout his life, finding joy and tranquility in nature. He was a past member of the Rotary Club of Quitman, Quitman, Georgia.
Dwayne is survived by his loving wife, Cathy McElveen Witt Cardin of Tellico Plains; his sister, Jane (Harold) Wyatt of Cedartown, GA; his sister, Joyce (Kirby) Carlton of Moultrie, GA; his son, Ty (Bobbi) Cardin of Charleston, TN; his daughter, Tracy (Vance) Cardin Thomas of Valdosta, GA; his son, JoCarl (Laura) Cardin of Moyock, NC; his daughter, Christy (Jay) Mayr of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Lauren Turton of Knoxville, TN; his daughter, Jennifer (Brandon) Palmer of Americus, GA; his son, William (Summer) Turton of Elko, GA; his daughter, Kari (Joshua) Stringer of Fitzgerald, GA; his daughter, Brooke McKinney of Buford, GA; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In memory of Dwayne's life and to honor his legacy, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Dwayne's warm presence, storytelling, and beautiful voice will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, forever cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Jon Faraone officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Center Cemetery with military honors provided by the U. S. Army, V.F.W. Post 5156 and American Legion Post 106. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M., Sunday, Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Tellico Plains.

It brought her great joy to prepare meals and make sure everyone ate. Carolyn made this world a better place. She was tough through all of life’s challenges and her faith in God remained strong. Survivors, wife of 56 years, Mary Rymer, daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Stacy Cook, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Jenny Rymer, grandchildren and spouses, Alicia and Rodney Wilcox, Trent and Shaniece Cook, Jacob Duckett, Carly and Chris Boots, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters, Nelline and Joseph Decker, Nola and Dale McKenzie, many well loved nephews and nieces as well as beloved cousins.
Funeral 2:00 P.M. Sunday, Towee Baptist Church, Rev. Raymond Phillips and Rev. Steve Dills officiating. Body will lie in state 1 hour prior to the funeral service. Born in Ware, Massachusetts on March 21, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mary Rice. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert Bock as well as her brother, Richard Rice of Massachusetts.
Marjorie is survived by four children and six grandchildren whom she dearly loved; Alicia Marie Bock of Florida, Christopher Allen Bock, wife Debbi, and son Hunter of California; Patrick Jason Bock, wife Francine, and daughter and son, Kressleigh and Kessler of North Carolina; Adrianna Renee Hartman, husband Troy, and daughters Olivia, Mandie and Tiffany of Tennessee. She is also survived by one brother, Bernard Rice, wife Bonita, of Arizona, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie loved her family and friends and always looked forward to her time with them. As a military wife, she travelled and lived in many places across the country over her life. It was hard for her to call one place home, but had many fond memories of Massachusetts, Oregon, California, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She had enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, baking, crafting and her beloved dogs.
