Obituary Preview: Funeral services for Francis Eugene "Gene" Peak, 85, of Laddonia, will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Laddonia Christian Church, with Pastor Bill Maupin officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Laddonia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, March 18, 2024, at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Laddonia.
Mr. Peak passed away at 4:06 P.M., Thursday, March 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Gene was born on January 8, 1939, in Laddonia, the son of Gene and Grace Freyer Peak.
He married Loretta Faye Hawkins on March 31, 1968, in Laddonia and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons; Phillip (Deanna) Peak of Wellsville and Paul (Desiree) Peak of Wellsville, one daughter; Shari Love of St. Charles, eleven grandchildren; Jacob (Sydney) Peak, Lucas Peak, Kaleb Peak, Christopher (Savannah) Brookman, Emily (Austin) Boes, Erin Peak (Josh Christian), Danielle Love, Micaella Love (Jacob Johnson), Alexis Hummel, Bethany Regot, and Morgan Regot, and nine great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather; Fred Johnsten, one brother; Charles Peak, and one stepsister and brother-in-law; Don & Deloris Waller.
Mr. Peak was a lifetime area resident, a member of the Laddonia Christian Church, the Martinsburg American Legion Post 552, and the Young Farmers. Gene was a lifelong farmer, who enjoyed hunting and traveling. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Peak, Lucas Peak, Kaleb Peak, Morgan Regot, Christopher Brookman, and Jay Freyer.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Cauthorn, Marty Freyer, John Freyer, and Jason Howald.

She was born on March 21, 1935 in St. Charles the daughter of Herbert and Molly Mueller Hemman.
Dorothy married Richard Lee “Dick” Fendrick on September 19, 1953 in Mexico and he preceded her in death on May 6, 1998.
Survivors include two sons; Steve (Shirley) Fendrick and Richard (Wilma) Fendrick all of Laddonia, daughter-in-Law; Karen Fendrick of Laddonia, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one son David Fendrick and one brother Milton Hemman.
Dorothy was a Lutheran by faith and a member of the West Quiver Homemakers Club. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and especially spending time with her family.

Gene Allen Trower was born June 8, 1955. He gave up his spirit at 11:05 AM on October 19, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father John Allen Trower, daughter Justine Lynn Trower and wife Debbye. He is survived by his parents Dan and June Erdel from Laddonia, MO, sisters Peggy (Jimmy) Davidson from Paris, MO and Beth (Philip) Whelan from Monroe City, MO. He was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren: Kimber (Wes) Nation with Grace Nation; Tammie (Kyle) Nordhus with Jaxson and Olivia Nordhus; Valerie (Ryan) Trower with Jayden Holland and Harrison Stegall; John Travis (Julia) Trower with Shania, John, Solomon and Justine Trower.
Gene was a lifelong farmer, certified aquatic and herbicide applicator. He also sold real estate, drove a school bus and delivered mail for a short time years ago. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, floating, playing cards, and socializing with friends. Gene was not scared to dream big! He took calculated risks, provided for his family, and loved everyone.
Pallbearers will be Billy Stanford, Randall Johnson, Eddie Pease, Bobby Lewis, John Trower, and Jayden Holland.

Mrs. Hopke passed away at 9:43 PM Thursday, August 3, 2023 at her home in Laddonia.
She was born May 12, 1922 the daughter of William Gus Nolan Sr. and Mary Louise Putney Nolan.
Wilma married N. Burton Hopke on December 28, 1947 in Laddonia and he preceded her in death on December 12, 2014.
Survivors include two sons; Dennis (Diane) Hopke of Linn, and Daryl (Debbie) Hopke of Vandalia, one daughter; Debbie Hopke of Laddonia, four grandchildren; Suzanne (James) Barber of Jefferson City, Scott (Rebecca) Hopke of Kansas City, Erica (Tyler) Fennewald of O'Fallon, and Allison (Tyson) Lowrance of Matthews, NC and nine great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephew, and friends.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; William Gus Jr., Wyatt, and Grant Nolan, one sister; Bertha Eunice Butts, two half brothers; Leonard and Marvin Cox, one half sister; Fern Keith.
Wilma was a lifetime area resident and cosmetologist for many years owning and operating Wilma's Beauty Salon in Laddonia. She was a very active member of the Laddonia Christian Church, a member of Eastern Star, and a faithful supporter of the Laddonia Athletic Association where all of her children played ball. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends who especially enjoyed her fried chicken, coconut cream pie, raisin cream pie and burnt caramel cake but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends at card parties and senior dances.
Pallbearers will be Scott Hopke, James Barber, Kaden Barber, Rodney Nolan, Austin Burnett, Greg Stuart, Clay Stuart, and Jake Stuart.

Jim was born on April 22, 1927 in Illinois the son of James Albert Pound, Sr. and Effie Caroline Wiser Pound. He married Donna Sue Howell Pound on September 7, 1947. She preceded him in death on June 8, 1987. Jim married Kay Orf Pound on September 4, 1988 - she survives.

Jim was a Christian by faith. He was a member of the American Legion Post 510. Continuing his fathers legacy, he continued farming in Illinois after his father's death. Jim and Donna Sue established Missouri farming in Laddonia in 1958. He enjoyed spending time working with his haflinger horses. He was an avid sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Rams and Missouri Tigers football and basketball teams. Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Hunn, Lincoln Smith, Jarrett Smith, Matt Pound, Wayne Glasgow and Janssen Wood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, two brothers; Edmond and Robert Britton, two sisters; Dorothy Evans and Alice Jo Isgrig, two nephews; Eddie and Steven Britton, and one great great nephew; Skylar Embree Seymour.
Ms. Britton was a lifetime area resident. She was a member of the Laddonia Presbyterian Church, where she loved being a part of the Quilting Club. Judy enjoyed spending her time drawing and doing art projects. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her loved ones.

Survivors include one son; James Worthington of Mexico and one daughter; Sherry (Howard) Young of Auxvasse, three brothers; Charles (Jill) Lynn of Martinsburg, Warren “Pete” (Linda) Lynn of Centralia, and Bobby Lynn of Calwood; two sisters; Jody Todd of Benton City and Juanita (Tom) Cope of Laddonia, seven grandchildren; Elizabeth and Alan Young, Jesse, Kelsey, Kyliegh, Ashliegh, and Jamison Worthington, and three great grandchildren; Hayden, Macey and Edna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one Brother; Darril Lynn, and one sister; Shirley Jean Kuda.
Charlotte was a Baptist by faith and worked at Continental Bag as a seamstress for over 50 years. She could be found spending her free time playing bingo and going to garage sales. Most of all, Charlotte loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include; one daughter; April (Sandy) Sansing of St. Charles, two brothers; Roy (Nancy) Cox of Bowling Green and Steven (Georgeann) Cox of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Connie, one brother; Norman Afton Cox Jr., one sister; Mary Lou Cox, and father and mother in law Herchel and Frances Maiden.
Mr. Cox was a lifetime area resident and a member of the Farber Presbyterian Church. He worked as an electrician at NARCO for 27 years and at Bodine in Troy for 16 years. David loved spending his time hunting, fishing, woodworking, reading, gardening and most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family.

Jackie went home to her heavenly father on April 25, 2023. She is survived by her daughter, Gena (Kauble) Cartee; her grandchildren, Dominique, Matthew, and Jacob Cartee; seven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Peggy Jo Perkins and Barbie Olds; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Kauble; her siblings, David Tapley, Wanda Barr, and Millie Shaw, and several dear nephews.
Jackie was born on Dec 4th, 1934, to the parents of Enoch and Geneva Tapley in New London, Missouri. After spending her childhood in the Hannibal area, she left the home and began working. Shortly after, she met and married the love of her life, Gene, in 1954. The couple welcomed their beloved daughter, Gena, into their lives in 1962.
Jackie was one of the kindest people you would ever meet. She loved children and was passionate about education, as well as sharing her love for Jesus. She made a career as a kindergarten teacher and a librarian/secretary at Community R-6 Schools. After retiring, Jackie worked part-time at the Audrain County Historical Society for another 30 years.
Outside of work, she spent most of her time in the Laddonia Christian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir director, and church leader for nearly 70 years. She enjoyed baking, gardening, shopping, and spending time outdoors.
Above all, her greatest joy in life was her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend. Jackie’s legacy of love and kindness will be carried in our hearts forever.
Pallbearers will be Mike Shaw, Terri Shaw, Jamie Shaw, Glen Barr, Dale Perkins Jr., Brian Olds, Matt Cartee, and Jacob Cartee.

She was born on August 17, 1934, in Hannibal, the daughter of Thomas Bernard and Ruth Juanita Palmer Kendrick.
Janet married Paul Everett Hudson on November 25, 1954 in Vandalia and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1990.
Survivors include two sons; Tom (Lisa) Hudson of Laddonia and Dan (Laura) Hudson of Mexico, one daughter; Paula (Marty) Aulbur of Martinsburg, eight grandchildren; Travis Aulbur, Trisha Isgrig, Tracy Shepard, Brandon, Justin, Trenton, Devin, Dylan Hudson and twelve great grandchildren, along with several other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Mrs. Hudson was a lifetime area resident and member of the St. John Catholic Church in Laddonia. Throughout the years, Janet worked at PK's Market, Martinsburg Post Office, Shelter Insurance, and City Clerk of Laddonia. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Most of all, Janet enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Travis Aulbur, Brandon Hudson, Justin Hudson, Trenton Hudson, Devin Hudson, and Dylan Hudson.

She was united in marriage to James Hammett Pollock and he preceded her in death on August 8, 1984.
Survivors include two sons; Mike (Pam) Pollock of Laddonia and Jim Pollock of Laddonia, one brother; Jim Green of Arkansas, two grandsons; Ryan and Corey Pollock, and two great grandchildren; Wade and Nevaeh Pollock, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by one sister; Carol Pasley, one brother Mickey Green and one daughter in law; Ann Pollock.
Donna was a member of St. John Catholic Church and enjoyed spending her time doing Crafts and fishing.

She was married to Stanley Russell "Jack" Garnett on May 9, 1985 in Santa Ana,CA and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2008.
Survivors include two sons; Bob (Mary) Davidson of Foley, and Richard (Cheryl) Davidson of Castro Valley, CA, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son; Raymond Davidson, one brother; Bill Collins, and two sisters; Lois Vetter and Lyn Eaver.
Mrs. Garnett was a member of the Laddonia Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending her time reading, baking, doing arts & crafts, and connecting with friends via social media. Most of all, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mr. Troesser passed away on December 14, 2022 outside of Mexico due to injures sustained from a car accident.
He was born August 30, 1938 in Laddonia the son of Peter and Rose Deimeke Troesser.
Harold married Shirley Ann Garnett on October 1, 1960 in New London and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2010.
Survivors include one son; Anthony (Isaias) Troesser of Lemay, one brother; Joe (Pat) Troesser of Laddonia, two sisters; Florence Oakes and Irene Hard both of Mexico, one sister in law Frances Troesser of Laddonia, and special companion Joyce Dudley of Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, and one brother Lawrence Troesser.
Mr. Troesser was a lifetime area resident and Catholic by faith. Harold and Shirley lived many years in Quincy, IL where he was a machinist for Quincy compressor. While in Quincy he was a member of the machinist union, North Side Boat Club, Rocky Point Boat Club, and the Moose lodge. Harold greatly enjoyed fishing but most of all he enjoyed socializing with his friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son: Allan Crowl, one daughter; Linda Habelitz, one sister; Lois Brazil, one stepson; Larry Meek, and one stepdaughter; Shirley Spence.
Mrs. Meek was raised in Laddonia and Independence, Missouri and graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence in the class of 1950. She retired after 30 years as a Cartographer for the Federal Government in aerospace defense. Doris was a member of the American Mapping Service Chapter 312 and she enjoyed spending her time quilting.

Mrs. Brooks was born on January 2, 1941, in Mexico, the daughter of Abner William “Jack” and Maurine (Ely) Elliott.
Karen married Donn Brooks on July 31, 1960, in Wellsville and he survives on the family farm.
Other survivors include three sons; Dana (Michelle) Brooks of Laddonia, Daniel (Amy) Brooks of Martinsburg, and Keane (Kristi) Brooks of Laddonia, two daughters; Kim Dungan of Laddonia and Kelli (Kevin) Smith of Mexico, sixteen grandchildren; Kaitlyn (Dustin) Riecke, Cameron (Emmi) Brooks, Conner Brooks, Lee Dungan, Amanda (Jordon) Beshears, Aaron (Sarah) Brooks, Danielle Brooks (Drew Gill), Deann Brooks (Blaze Escamilla), Porter Goodman, Rylee Smith, Alexis (Gabe) Burnett, Hunter (Kali) Smith, Kaden Brooks, Kylie Brooks, Farrah Brooks, and Augusta Brooks, and seventeen great-grandchildren (with more on the way).
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son; Del Brooks, brother; Jack Elliott, and sister; Jean Baysinger.
Karen was a lifelong resident of the Laddonia area where she spent countless hours raising six children as well as partnering with her husband (Donn) as they grew their successful farming operation. In addition to her duties on the farm, Karen retired from the United States Department of Labor after many years of dedicated service. Karen also served multiple terms as a member of the Community R-6 School Board. She enjoyed cooking, and most of all, Karen enjoyed spending time with her family which included her dogs, Heidi, and most recently, Baylee.
A private family service will be held at a later date with interment in the Laddonia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Brooks, Lee Dungan, Cameron Brooks, Conner Brooks, Porter Goodman, and Kaden Brooks.

Myrna Joy Brummitt - June 19, 1954 - November 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Joy Brummitt danced into the arms of Jesus on November 25, 2022 at the age of 68 years. Though she will be sorely missed, we know she is celebrating with her mom, dad, sister Gay Lee, and niece Abigail JoAnne among others.
Joy was born in Lexington, Mo., on June 19, 1954 to James Thomas (J.T.) Brummitt and JoAnne (Street) Brummitt. The Santa Fe railroad family ended up in LaPlata, Mo. where Joy lived as “one of those little Brummitt girls.” It was LaPlata where she grew up, graduated high school and formed many life-long friends.
Joy loved children and spent most her working years in daycares and church nurseries. Because Joy was so petite and because she would always listen, children were drawn to “Joy-Joy” or “Miss Joy.” Even when she retired, she was a “volunteer grandmother” at the Williams Family Center, Mexico, Mo. Joy’s pride and joy were her 42 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Joy was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she especially enjoyed the annual Cameo Tea Party so she could dress up and wear a fancy hat.
Joy is survived by two sisters, Merrilee Wells, of Parsons, Kansas and Glee Hanson, of Laddonia; brother-in-law Monte Hanson who cared for Joy like one of his own, and all those nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Joy’s Celebration of Life will be held at Thursday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. and will be held at the Mexico Church of the Nazarene where she had been an active member also since moving to Farber in 2011.

She was preceded in death by her father Larry Jolley, Aunt Carol Harrison, and father in law; Donnie Martin.
Shelia was a Christian by Faith, who enjoyed spending her time gardening, walking with friends, working on her home with her husband, and playing with her dogs. Most of all she enjoyed being a Mimi and playing with her grandchildren, Sawyer and Julian.

Gene passed away on September 6th, 2022 in his home with family by his side. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Kauble; his daughter, Gena (Kauble) Cartee; his grandchildren- Dominique, Matthew, and Jacob Cartee; and seven great-grandchildren.
Gene was born in Laddonia, Missouri on August 14, 1931 to the parents of Ira and Marie Kauble. He was the youngest of three, with an older brother, Howard and an older sister, Dorothy.
After spending his childhood in Laddonia, Gene joined the U.S. Army at 17 years old. He served all four years of his service in Germany as a medical assistant during World War II. He returned home to Laddonia, after his service, where he lived the rest of his days. He married Jackie, the love of his life, in 1954. The couple welcomed their daughter, Gena, into their lives in 1962.
Gene was a hard working man. He made a career as a professional truck driver, driving for Slater & Fowles, Wettereau Inc., and Pete Oliver, before becoming an independent driver. He traveled to 49/50 states over the course of his life and career. Gene proudly continued carrying loads for local farmers until last year at the age of 90.
Despite his love for the road, Gene’s greatest pride and achievement was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. When he wasn’t trucking, Gene enjoyed time outdoors and tinkered around with all sorts of odd jobs. He loved doing anything that involved working with his hands. Gene was known far and wide for his orneriness and fun-loving spirit. One could always depend on him for a joke and a good laugh. He was dearly loved and cherished by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Gene was a lifelong member of both the Laddonia Christian Church and the American Legion, Post 510. The family humbly requests that any memorial donations might be made to either of the above organizations.

Survivors include two sons; Reggie (Tracey) Jensen of St. Charles and Glenn (Christina) Jensen, JR of Laddonia, four daughters; Amanda Jensen (Larry Myers) of Laddonia, Laura (Kevin) Obermark of Tomahawk, WI, Shannon (Russell) Boone of Montgomery City, and Sarah (Robert) Palmer of Mexico, one brother; Neil Matlock, SR of Ballwin, two sisters; Nancy (Larry) Creek of Laddonia and Tammy (Tom) Barnhouse of Lonedale, 16 grandchildren; Alyssa, Hayden, Glenn III, Matthew, David, and Nicholas Jensen, Joshua Theiss, Andrew and Samantha Thomasson, Brandon and Allyson Boone, Ravin, Melania, and Raith Palmer, Daniel Fischer, Ely and Cameron Myers, and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Doloris and her husband; Glenn.
Mrs. Jensen was a Lutheran by Faith, who spent 45 years as a school bus driver, with 33 of those years being with the Community R-6 School district. She enjoyed spending her time quilting, growing flowers, and doing puzzles. Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Lori was born July 19, 1970 in Mexico Mo., the daughter of Phillip and Linda (Shouse) Christopher. She grew up on the family’s farm outside of Laddonia, Mo., and graduated Community R-6 high school.
Lori earned a degree in anthropology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She worked for the Rural Policy Research Institute and later as a surgical technician.
Lori will be remembered for her singular sense of humor and her gift for using it to bring joy to those around her. She had a special connection to the friends she made throughout childhood, college and her workplaces.
Lori believed in life-long learning, which was made clear by her skills in playing Jeopardy! She was first pick when her friends organized a trivia team.
Lori’s heart led her to creative pastimes. She loved music. She played guitar, banjo, piano and mandolin. She was a passionate pet lover of Bender, Jo-Jo, Flower, and Gary Johnson.
Lori loved her family above all else, involving herself in the upbringing of her beloved niece and nephew and dedicating herself to care taking of her parents.
She was preceded in death by her father, Phillip; mother, Linda; brother, Aaron Brent; sister, Amy Lynn Crowe.
Lori is survived by her nephew Dagan Aaron Crowe of Fulton and niece Elsa Lynn Crowe of Moscow Mills, two uncles, John (Janet) Shouse of Franklin, TN, and Jim Shouse of Mexico, and one aunt Mary Ann Kjellerson of Blue Springs, along with several cousins. Pallbearers will be Dagan Crowe, John Shouse, Richard Frazier, Steve Schulte, Steve Fairchild and Scott Vomund
