Koda Oliver - May 29, 2012 - March 01, 2024

Departed: 03/01/2024 (Middlefield)
Obituary Preview: Koda Oliver, 11 years 10 months old, of Hiram, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Friday March 1st, 2024.
Koda was the best dog ever, it breaks our hearts that he is no longer with us. Koda never met a stranger, he absolutely loved people. The pure excitement when people came to visit was so special. He always had to grab a toy and meet you at the door. One of the best things he ever did was, he broke the stigma that all Pits are agressive and dangerous. Everyone who was scared of him changed the opinion quickly because he was nothing but an adorable loving little man that gave kisses out freely. He also wanted his arms and hands rubbed all the time and he would keep pawing at you til you rubbed them. He had a lot of favorite things to do. He was the best snuggler, he always had to be covered up with his fuzzy blanket, the best kisser, loved swimming, going on adventures, playing outside, sniffing all around, barking at the chipmunks in the wood piles, rolling around on the grass to scratch his back, playing in the creek, playing with his toys; he was a master at destroying them and pulling out the squeekerrs and stuffing.
He loved Christmas too because he got to unwrap presents. He was the best helper weather it was digging in the dirt piles, laying in dug trenches, picking up sticks, to smelling everything he could, bringing his toys inside or just sitting in the kitchen while we cooked or laid on the couch with his head on the arm rest watching us cook waiting patiently for a snack or a sample of what was cooking. Doing the zoomies, he would come flying in the house, run upstairs and jumps on the bed and spins himself around and around with an occasional play bark while doing this. Hence we called him crazy boy when he was acting crazy. Kicking the blankets from one end of the couch to the other was another crazy boy trait. He was a little comedian, he made you laugh all the time. His personality was something else. He was goofy, silly, a little winner at times, he mastered the ability to talk back just like a 2 yr old kid. He was also a shadow puppet because he wanted to be with you all the time doing whatever you were doing. He is deeply missed by his human dad Quenton Oliver and human mom Alison Oliver and many others. Koda you will forever be in our hearts baby boy.

Obituary Preview: Gracie VanVoorhis, 12 years old of Troy Twp, OH, crossed the Rainbow Bridge Friday, March 1st, 2024.
She was a force to be reckoned with and barked at everyone in our neighborhood though everyone knew she was a big chicken.  She was extremely protective of what she thought was hers-(our house and the entire neighborhood) but if you gave her treats, she would love you for a lifetime.  She came into our lives unexpectedly and left the same way.  Gracie will deeply be missed by all who knew her.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It serves as a way to share the news of a loved one's passing with friends, family, and community.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the deceased, providing closure for those who are grieving, and serving as a historical record of a person's life. They also help to notify others of the passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary or provide guidance on how to write one.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the basic facts such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary, on the other hand, provides more detailed information about the person's life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The process for submitting an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. You can usually find guidelines on their website or by contacting them directly. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for any associated fees.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the obituary. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it is becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your life story is told in your own words.

What if I don't have any family members or friends to write an obituary?

In cases where there is no one to write an obituary, a funeral home or social worker may be able to assist. Alternatively, some organizations offer services to write obituaries for those who do not have anyone to do so.

How long after a person's passing should an obituary be published?

The timing of publishing an obituary varies depending on cultural and personal preferences. Typically, it is published within a few days to a week after the person's passing.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes, including quotes or lyrics that were meaningful to the deceased can add a personal touch to the obituary and help celebrate their life.

What if I want to keep the funeral private?

If you prefer to keep the funeral private, you can still publish an obituary without including details about the service. Instead, you might mention that a private ceremony will be held or that donations can be made in lieu of flowers.

Can I update or correct an obituary after it has been published?

In most cases, it is possible to make corrections or updates to an obituary after it has been published. Contact the publication or platform directly to request changes.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive issues surrounding the person's death or life, it's essential to approach these topics with tact and respect. Consider consulting with family members or friends before deciding what information to include.

Can I include charitable donations information in an obituary?

Yes, many people choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a cause they cared about.

What if I want to publish multiple obituaries in different locations?

If you want to publish multiple obituaries in different locations, you'll need to submit them separately to each publication or platform. Be prepared for varying costs and requirements.

Can I create an online memorial instead of publishing an obituary?

Yes, online memorials are becoming increasingly popular as a way to honor loved ones. These platforms often allow for more flexibility and creativity than traditional print obituaries.

How long will an online obituary remain available?

The duration for which an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform. Some may keep them archived indefinitely, while others may remove them after a certain period.

Can I republish an old obituary at a later date?

In some cases, it may be possible to republish an old obituary at a later date, such as on the anniversary of the person's passing. Check with the original publication or platform for their policies on republication.

What if I'm unsure about what information to include in an obituary?

If you're struggling with what information to include in an obituary, consider seeking guidance from a funeral home, crematorium, or trusted friend or family member.

Can I use humor in an obituary?

Yes, using humor in an obituary can be a wonderful way to celebrate the person's life and personality. Just be sure to strike the right balance between humor and respect.

How do I ensure that an obituary is accurate and respectful?

To ensure accuracy and respectfulness in an obituary, fact-check all information carefully and consider having multiple people review it before publication.
