Departed: 03/31/2024 (Peoria)
Obituary Preview: On March 31, 2024, Kathleen Snider peacefully shuffled off this mortal stage, compassionately passing to join her husband, soulmate, and eternal dance partner, Norman Snider, who predeceased her by ten years. Friends, family, and dogs of all sizes will dearly miss Kathleen. Her dry wit (almost as dry as her martini), keen mind (as her bridge partners can attest), and stellar dance moves (proudly on display with the Desert Dancers) brought joy to all who encountered Kathleen. While working in the LAPD Parole Office, Kathleen met her soulmate, fellow parole officer Norman Snider. Kathleen and Norman married in 1969 and worked together until they retired from LAPD Parole. Retirement took Kathleen and Norman first to Orcas Island, Washington, before they found their forever home in Westbrook Village in 1998. Catherine May Alexander - February 10, 1937 - March 30, 2024

Departed: 03/30/2024 (Peoria)
Obituary Preview: Our dear sweet mother Catherine May Alexander was taken to heaven by her angels on Holy Saturday, March 30, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family, friends and caregivers. Catherine was born on February 10, 1937, in the Upper Peninsula Village of Baraga, Michigan, along the shores of Lake Superior's Keweenaw Bay. Catherine’s paternal grandparents were immigrants from Slovenia and maternal grandparents from Finland. They came to the Copper Country for mining, farming and commercial fishing. Her idyllic childhood was spent ice skating, playing the piano and saxophone, playing in Grandpa’s yard, taking boat rides on the bay and picking wild blueberries in the surrounding woods. Most of all she loved the family parties with the lively piano music, singing and dancing, and of course, the traditional beaver barbeques.
After graduating from Baraga High School, she attended Northern Michigan University and the College of St. Scholastica and later moved to the City of Detroit to work at the Chrysler Corporation. During this time, she met her Scotch-Irish husband Tom after a blind date set up by her cousins, followed by a courtship and 67 years marriage. The couple made their home in Roselle, Illinois; Ferndale, Michigan; and in 1978 they moved with their five children to the warm sunny desert of Arizona and settled in the City of Peoria. They also spent many holidays, especially Christmases, at the family house in the Prescott Valley Country Club.
Beginning in 1958, Catherine started her family and over the next two decades she gave birth to seven beautiful children, five girls and two boys. She was a devoted and nurturing mother who loved to sing and read to all her babies. She believed that motherhood was divine and her most important and fulfilling responsibility. She encouraged her children to participate in creative activities such as music and art. She was a regular attendee at all of their activities including dance, orchestra, and band performances, plus baseball, soccer and softball games. Later, when she became a grandmother and great grandmother, she provided the same support and encouragement for the next generation of talented athletes and musicians.
She was adamant about keeping up a birthday party tradition for each family member because in her words “every child needs to know their life is special.” She was known for cooking homemade chicken stew which no one could ever duplicate and giving encouraging advice like "There is always a better day." She loved attending church on Fridays and Sundays and her prayers for the family were needed and appreciated. She enjoyed watching pro and college football, basketball and baseball games, watercolor painting, gardening, traveling to Michigan, Florida, the Virgin Islands, Scotland, and her favorite destination, Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii. The highlight of her travels was her trip to Croatia and Slovenia, the Osterman motherland, where she visited her cousin Drasco and his wife Branca Ostermann. She also loved music and her favorite singers were Elvis, Sammy Davis Jr., Josh Groban, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, and Rod Stewart. Her favorite color was aqua blue--reminiscent of serene and tranquil blue-green coastal waves she enjoyed.
Catherine was the last surviving member of her generation from the legendary Osterman family. She was preceded in death by her dearly loved parents John and Lempi Osterman, her close siblings Jack Osterman and former wife Virginia, Russ and Louise Osterman, Bill Osterman and former wife Jean, Mary and Al Blemberg, Patricia and Jack Zarek, and Dorothy Louise and Bob Kissel (survived by his widow Pat); her supportive father and mother in-law Thomas Oren and Zita Cecelia Alexander (and her second husband William Kelly); her brother and sister in-laws Ronald Alexander, Mike Sawasky and Donna Alexander; her beloved babies Deborah Marie who sadly passed at two and half years old and Thomas Mark at four days old; and later in life her precious granddaughter Heather Leigh at the age of sixteen.
She is survived by her best friend and husband Thomas Alexander and his siblings Larry, Judy and Will Derry, Lois Sawasky, and Jim Alexander; her loving children Patricia and Jerry Soria, Cynthia Alexander, Christine and Wayne Thurston, Brian and Sarah Alexander, Kimberly and Dean Carter, her blessed 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremains services will be held on Saturday, April 20th, at Best Funeral Home in Peoria, Arizona, from 9am to 10am, and a funeral mass at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City West, Arizona, from 11am to 12 noon (all faiths welcome to both services). If you wish to make memorial donations, please give to her favorite charity at FoodForThePoor.org.

When her children were older she joined the Bank of Bethesda as a New Accounts clerk. With her characteristic dedication and acumen, she swiftly climbed the ranks, achieving the position of Vice President, a role she later reprised at Sandy Spring Bank.
After her daughter’s wedding Judy purchased I Do, I Do Wedding Gowns, a consignment wedding shop in Rockville, Maryland, which she grew from a shop in her basement to a beautiful bridal shop in downtown Rockville. She took great joy in helping countless brides find their dream gowns. Judy was very proud of the fact that for many years I Do, I Do Wedding Gowns was named one of Washington’s Best Bargains by Washingtonian Magazine. She also took pride in the fact that annually the shop was also featured prominently in the Washingtonian’s bridal issue. Judy sold the company when health issues necessitated her retirement.
In accordance with her wishes, Judy's life will be commemorated in a private ceremony where immediate family will gather to honor her memory.
Judy's journey through life was remarkable, and the impact she had on those around her will endure. She leaves behind a beautiful tapestry of memories and a family that will continue to honor her memory.
Rest in peace, Mom. Your love, laughter, and wisdom will forever be with us.
