Annunziata "Nancy" DiNenna - March 25, 1935 - January 26, 2022

Departed: 01/26/2022 (Bridgeport)
Obituary Preview: Obituary for Annunziata ‘Nancy’ Di Nenna (1935-2022)
Our beloved mother, Annunziata ‘Nancy’ Di Nenna passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at her home in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania.
She was born on March 25, 1935 to Vincenzo and Anna Di Leo in Montella, province of Avellino, Italy.
She was the beloved wife and steadfast supporter of 52 years to our late father, Mario Stanislao Di Nenna, who died in 2006.
After marrying in 1954, our parents emigrated to Argentina looking for a better future. They settled in Buenos Aires, built a home and raised four children. In spite of 20 years of hard work, they faced many hardships which led to their decision to emigrate once again, with the determination to ensure a better future for the four of us.  It meant another hard separation for our parents. While our father came to look for new opportunities in Philadelphia, our mother remained with us in Buenos Aires.  By the late 1970’S, the entire family resettled in Bridgeport.
In the U.S., our parents continued to work hard so that our family could flourish and to realize their hopes of better lives for all of us. Our father spent his last years in the house that our parents built together on Holstein Street, a project that they worked on for more than ten years brick by brick. It was the family gathering place to enjoy “Mami’s” cooking, her beautiful garden, and “Papi’s” love of retelling of family stories.
In addition to securing a good future for each of us, they left us a rich legacy of the values of family, faith, charity, education, friendship, and hard work which we cherish and continue to build on in our own lives. We were blessed to have them as our parents.
Besides her parents and husband, Annunziata was predeceased by her siblings Libera, Eugenio, and Ernesto. She is survived by her adoring children Luis (Carol), John (Lisa), Ana, and Vincent, and her grandchildren Mario, Nancy, and Albert, great grand-children Giovanni and Isabella, and nieces and nephews.
We are very grateful to the many relatives and friends for their outpouring of love and support which has given us much solace. We also thank Magdalena Palma who lovingly helped us care for our mother over the past four years.
Relatives and friends are invited to Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, PA 19405, on Wednesday, February 2, where a viewing will start at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It is usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They can help to notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a sense of closure for those who are grieving.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by the family of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. In some cases, a friend or colleague may also write an obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service, as well as any charitable donations or condolences.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos of the deceased. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the obituary and celebrate the person's life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

You can usually submit an obituary to a newspaper through their website or by contacting their obituary department directly. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for the publication.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise that allows you to reflect on your life and legacy. However, it's essential to keep in mind that your loved ones may still need to make changes or additions after your passing.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the basic details such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed and personalized tribute that celebrates the person's life and achievements.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the deceased. If they had a great sense of humor, it's perfectly okay to include a lighthearted anecdote or quote that captures their essence.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive issues or complicated relationships involved, it's essential to approach the writing of the obituary with tact and sensitivity. Consider seeking guidance from a trusted friend, family member, or professional counselor.

Can I include quotes or poems in an obituary?

Yes! Quotes, poems, or lyrics that resonate with the deceased's personality or spirit can add depth and meaning to the obituary. Just be sure to obtain any necessary permissions or credits.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?

DON'T WORRY! Many funeral homes and online obituary platforms offer writing services or guidance to help you craft a beautiful and meaningful tribute. You can also ask a trusted friend or family member for assistance.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Online obituaries are often published immediately, while print newspapers may take several days or weeks.

Can I make changes to an already-published obituary?

In most cases, yes. If you need to make corrections or additions to an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform directly. They will guide you through their process for making updates.

Is it possible to write an anonymous obituary?

In general, no. Obituaries are meant to be public tributes that celebrate the life of the deceased. Anonymous submissions are not typically accepted by publications or online platforms.

Can I include information about charitable donations in an obituary?

Absolutely! Many families choose to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a cause close to their heart.

How do I ensure accuracy in an obituary?

To ensure accuracy, fact-check all information carefully before submitting the obituary. Verify dates, names, and spellings with multiple sources whenever possible.

Can I include personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Yes! Personal anecdotes and stories can bring warmth and personality to an obituary. They help to paint a vivid picture of the deceased's life and character.

What if I'm dealing with a complex family situation?

If you're navigating a complicated family dynamic while writing an obituary, consider seeking guidance from a trusted mediator or counselor. They can help you navigate sensitive issues with compassion and understanding.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has been deceased for many years?

Yes! While it's more common to write an obituary shortly after someone's passing, there's no time limit on paying tribute to their life. You can still write a meaningful and celebratory obituary even if many years have passed since their death.

How do I handle feedback or criticism about an obituary?

If you receive feedback or criticism about an obituary, try to remain open-minded and gracious. Remember that everyone has different opinions and perspectives. Take constructive feedback into consideration, but ultimately prioritize your own vision and intentions for the tribute.

Can I republish an existing obituary on another platform?

In most cases, yes. If you've already published an obituary in one location (e.g., newspaper), you can usually republish it on another platform (e.g., online memorial website) with permission from the original publisher.
