Marian O. Taranto - August 11, 1946 - January 01, 2023

Departed: 01/01/2023 (Oxford)
Obituary Preview: Marian Olene Taranto (August 11, 1946-January 1, 2023), accomplished artist, devoted wife, loving mother, daughter of God, and friend to many. At her home in Oxford, NY, on the morning of January 1st, 2023,
Marian Olene Taranto suddenly departed her earthly body and was rejoined with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. She was loved by many. Marian Olene (Crow) Taranto was the first daughter to Leo Roy Crow and Marion (Anderson) Crow on August 11, 1946, in Flint, MI. As a child, Marian was a loving sister to her disabled younger brother John Crow. Her dearest childhood memories entailed visiting her grandparents Bessie and Olaf at the “Little House” in Ashland, WI, spending time with her beloved Airedale, Rags, and her cat, Sammy, and taking in the beauty of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. She was a graduate with Honors from Hamady High School in Flint, MI. Upon graduation she studied
Fine Arts at her mother’s alma mater Northland College, WI, and completed her degree with a BFA from Salve Regina College, RI. While visiting San Diego with her best friend Eilene, she met a handsome sailor from Brooklyn, NY named Peter Taranto at a Navy picnic. After much deliberation, they married five days later. In marrying Peter, the love of her life, she would fulfill her twofold dreams of traveling the world and becoming a mother. Together, the couple lived in Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Virginia, Scotland, Italy, and Guam. Marian was blessed with five children that she loved beyond measure: Peter John “P.J.,” Bridgett Olene “Bunny,” Ruth Kathleen “Kate,” Timothy Leo, and Christian Salvatore “Tory.” Marian was a talented painter, in the tradition of her mother and grandmother. Whether it was face painting for children at the Blackhawk Blast or exhibiting her paintings at Queen’s Hall, Dunoon,
Scotland and galleries in Newport, RI, or doing graphic design work for the family business, she was proud to share her talents with others. Marian was a lover of animals, especially Scottish and West Highland terriers of which she had many over the years. Her interests were broad and her knowledge of subjects was deep. She was a lover of American history, historic homes, antiquing, treasure hunting at the Salvation Army and Goodwill, classic movies, British television shows, genealogy, archaeology, collecting jewelry, or just the simple pleasure of driving through the rolling landscape of Upstate New York to admire the autumn colors in all their splendor. She was a member of her local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Moorestown, NJ. She was a gifted whistler, knew the words to countless songs, and possessed a beautiful singing voice. Marian cherished cooking for her family, baking with her daughters at the holidays and exploring new cuisines and recipes. A true Michigander, she was a faithful fan of the “mouth-eaten, flea-bitten” Detroit Lions. She also loved people, loved a good conversation, loved to laugh, and loved staying in touch with her many friends throughout the years and across the world. More than anything though, Marian was a woman of great faith. Marian was a devoted Catholic and loved Jesus Christ our Lord with all her heart, a love she instilled in all of her children. She was a prayer warrior, praying ceaselessly for others, she was a CCD teacher, she participated in many bible studies, and even produced the famous St. Joseph’s Church Haunted House for many years. Her greatest joy in life was being a
devoted wife to her husband Peter and loving mother to her five children. Marian is survived by her husband of 55 years, Peter Taranto, her son Peter John Taranto and his wife Jennifer (Wakeman) Taranto, her daughter Bridgett Olene (Taranto) Pilla and her husband Vincent Frank Pila, her daughter Ruth Kathleen Taranto and her husband William
Joshua Thomas Burnett, her son Timothy Leo Taranto and his wife Allison Blair (Conti) Taranto, and her son Christian Salvatore Taranto. She is survived by 4 grandchildren: Elaine, Shaleigh Amber, Roman, and Teresa “Tess” Rose. Marian is preceded in death by her mother Marian Olene (Anderson) Crow, her father Leo Roy Crow, her brother John Crow, her maternal grandmother Bessie (Cumberland) Anderson, and her maternal grandfather Olaf Anderson. We are heartbroken to have lost someone as truly special as Marian, but we take solace in
knowing that she is laughing and singing and chatting it up with all of the folks who are excited to see her up in Heaven.

Obituary Preview: Michael Cashman, Sr. is at peace after a courageous battle with cancer. He died on October 21, 2022, while in the care of his dearest loved ones and frequently visiting family who were by his side during his final days.
Mike was born at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY, to Edward J. Sr. and Cornelia J. Cashman of Oxford, NY, on May 21, 1954. His family resided on Albany & Chenango Streets in Oxford, NY. He attended school at Oxford Academy, Oxford, NY: graduating in 1972. He joined the United States Navy in 1974 and was an Air Intercept Controller. He was stationed on the USS Harry E. Yarnell (CG-17). While in the Navy, he met his wife, Lillian Allison Cashman. Together, they had four children: Heather, Michael, Philip (PJ), and David. Although their marriage ended 12 years later, their shared adoration for their children remained intact. Later in life, Mike met Theresa Armondi and they had one child, Joshua Cashman. Mike’s deep faith in Christ and Christ alone for his salvation brought peace, joy, and security in the midst of this trial battling cancer. That faith was made evident to his friends and family, that witnessed how he lived out his remaining months. After many appointments, surgeries, setbacks, and struggles, he went home to be where his family could visit him, and he could be at rest. This wouldn’t have been possible without the selfless friendship of Doug, Peggy, and Randy Dungey.
As Mike’s illness took a turn for the worse, Mike’s nephew, Jimmy King, was very helpful with keeping tabs on his Uncle.
The Cashman family is eternally grateful for the loving care Mike received.
He is survived by his cherished children: Heather (PJ) Borrelli of Earlville, NY; Michael (Lindsey) Cashman, Jr. of Palmer, AK; David (Laura) Cashman of Brook Park, OH, and Joshua Cashman (Taylor) of Susquehanna, PA; and his thirteen beloved grandchildren. Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by a family member or close friend of the deceased. Funeral homes or crematories may also offer assistance in writing and publishing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the individual's life story. Generally, it should be concise yet meaningful, ranging from a few sentences to several paragraphs.
