Obituary Preview: Lorraine Lynn Burgess, 72 passed away on April 23, 2022. Lorraine was born into a loving home surrounded by family and lifelong friends. Lorraine exuded charisma, athleticism and was outrageously funny from a young age. These qualities held true throughout her life. From her grad school years through high school she gained lifelong friends and her one true love. After high school, she went on to work for Merril Lynch where she had an incredibly successful career of 42 years. During this time she was an avid bowler, horseback rider, and loyal college friend.
Lorraine was predeceased by her mother and father, Irene and Edwin Fox, and her brother Gregory Fox.
She is survived by her devoted husband, James Burgess; her four siblings and their spouses; nine nieces and four nephews; three great -nieces and five great-nephews. Lorraine was loved and cherished by everyone she met. Her ability to lead with patience, humility, and discipline proved to influence not only her family but everyone in her life, making her truly extraordinary.  Lorraine will be eternally loved and missed. Lorraine Burgess's services will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 4:00 - 8:00pm at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home.

Jimmy was born James W. Geller in Brooklyn to the late Joseph and Sylvia Geller.  He was raised in Tottenville, Staten Island where he lived his entire life.  Everyone knew him and called him Jimmy, not James.  He was a teamster with Local 282 and was currently working with Island Ready Mix.
He is pre-deceased by his parents Joseph and Sylvia; his brothers, Michael and Daniel; and nephew, Joseph.
Jimmy is the beloved father of Jennifer; loving brother of Arthur; brother-in-law of Renee; beloved uncle of Scott, Brittany, and Robert; and great uncle of Mea, Julian, Maximus, and Arthur.

She is survived by her husband, Gino, two sons, Sal and Vinny, daughters-in-law, Kim and Faith, and five grandchildren.
Arguably the world's best cook, her meatballs, penne vodka, and baked clams, among other dishes, will be severely missed.  When she wasn't in the kitchen, she loved to ride her bike and hustle her grandkids in poker.  She didn't like diamonds and fancy clothes, she preferred power tools and was the family handyman.
Mary will be remembered for her loving, warm, and crazy personality.  She got her first tattoo at seventy-five years old and wanted a dirtbike for Christmas.  Mary was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all.

Mary loved children and was a Brownie Leader and a babysitter when her children were young. She loved Macy's, yard sales, doing crafts and sewing, and making pillows and blankets.  She especially loved helping people.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Staten Island Chapter #687.
Mary was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Vernon, and, her daughter Debbie.  She is survived by her children, Donna and Denise; and her grandchildren, James, Stephen, Carolyn, Lauren, Christopher, and Lisa.

Obituary Preview: Navy veteran, Mason, native Staten Islander, 96 Samuel Thomas Weening passed away on April 9, 2022 and was 96 years old. A native Staten Islander, Sam Weening was born on January 15, 1926 at the old Richmond Memorial Hospital in Prince's Bay. He was the second of three children born to Fannie (Laird) and Samuel Weening of Tottenville. Sam attended PS1 and graduated from Tottenville High School in 1944. After graduating from THS, Sam attended Dartmouth College before enlisting in the US Navy. While in the Navy during World War II, Sam served on the destroyer USS Cony (DD 508) in the South Pacific. Sam returned to the US in early 1946 and enrolled in Wagner College on Staten Island. After graduating Wagner with a BS in Education in 1950, Sam went on to receive a master's degree in Education at Wagner College before being called up from the Navy Reserves to see active duty during the Korean War. After the end of the Korean War, he returned to Staten Island and married Elleneva Kamp who was also from Tottenville, and the two were married in June 1954. Being a Mason was especially important to Sam who was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, having been a member of Great Kills Lodge # 912 where he became Master of the Lodge and was a past Richmond County District Deputy Grand Master. Sam was deeply religious and attended St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Eltingville for many years where he was active in the Church's Vestry and choir, until he became disabled.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his wife of 55 years, Elleneva, who passed away in 2009. He was also predeceased by his brother Charles Weening and his sister Anne Pistek. Sam is survived by his son Robert and his wife Susan, his daughter Christine Belinfante and 5 grandchildren, Reuben, Rebecca, Matthew, Peter and Rachel Oliva, his sister-in-law Harriet Lee Weening and several nephews, nieces and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, located at 7447 Amboy Road Staten Island, New York 10307 on Tuesday April 12th, 2022 from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm. A Funeral mass will take place at St Albans Episcopal Church located at 76 Saint Albans Place Staten Island, New York 10312 at 10 am.  Private Cremation. Emily Dorothy Cummings, 95, of Huguenot, died peacefully at home after a prolonged illness.
Born in Englewood, New Jersey, to Agnes and Marek (Mark) Kratky, emigrants from Czechoslovakia. As a young child, she moved with her family to Staten Island, NY where her parents started a small farm. Her father also was a professional offshore fisherman and named his fishing boat the “Emily K”.
After high school, Emily worked as a secretary for Equitable Life in New York City. Back home in Staten Island, she met and married Stephen Edward Cummings, and the newlyweds built a small bungalow in Prince’s Bay. As their family grew, the couple built two bigger homes, first one next to their bungalow, and then later, one in Huguenot, where Emily lived until her death.
A lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph/St. Thomas Parish in Pleasant Plains, Mrs. Cummings along with her husband Stephen Sr, was instrumental in the fund-raising campaign for the construction of the elementary school for Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church in Huguenot during the 1950s.  Her husband, Stephen Sr, assisted with the construction of the elementary school for St. Joseph/St. Thomas Parish during the 1960s, where later she volunteered as administrator for St. Joseph-St. Thomas School for over 25 years.
Emily was predeceased by her husband Stephen, and her third child, William. She is survived by four sons – Stephen (Jr), Michael, James, John, and a devoted daughter, Emily (Jr).  Emily was a proud and caring mother, known as “Gigi” to her 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services include viewing at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home in Tottenville on Monday, March 28th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 29th at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains.

He retired from Carborundum. After retirement, he developed a passion for leatherwork and knife making.
As a young man, Andrew joined the military as a Marine. He served his country in Vietnam. Earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart among the many other honors. He served his country with his heart... He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was a retired NYPD Detective and a retired Investigator for the NYS Attorney Generals' Office.
Michael was a family guy. He did everything he could do for his family, especially for his wife, his daughters, and his two grandchildren.  He coached both of his daughter's soccer and softball teams while they were growing up.  He especially loved spending time with his family and with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his walks with his dogs in the park.   From when he was a child, he participated in the Good Friday procession in Brooklyn, carrying the Virgin Mary. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and loved music, especially The Beatles.  He also loved Halloween and threw big Halloween parties- he loved classic horror.  He loved his nightly macaroni every single night!
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Debra; loving daughters, Nancy and Victoria; loving brother and sister, Raymond and Theresa; cherished grandchildren, Michael and Mallory; and dear nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Johnny Holley,74, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2022.  He was surrounded by his amazing wife and children.  Johnny was born in Alabama, then came to Staten Island in 1955 with his family.  They spent most of their lives working hard and building their own businesses which included Holley Excavators, Windy Hollow Stables, Barclay Deli, Triple J Paving, Big City Paving, Yesterdays Restaurant, and Johns Sand Bar, just to name a few.  He did all this while working as an Operating Engineer for the Department of Sanitation.
Johnny will be remembered as a loving family man who would do anything for his family and friends.  Johnny enjoyed vacationing in  Marco Island, and also going to Atlantic City, Disney, and his cruise trips.
Johnny was pre-deceased by his brother Larry.  He is survived by his wife, Nataline; his daughters, Kristin, and her husband Mike, Margaret, and her husband Carl; his son James; and six grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Anthony St Pierre, 93 passed away in his home in Prince's Bay on Thursday, March 3. Anthony is survived by his 4 children Rosellen, William, Thomas, and Susan, 8 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Anthony was born in Brooklyn New York. He joined the Marines at 17 and served in the Pacific during World War Two. Anthony worked as an auto mechanic with Roger's Pontiac in Brooklyn for 28 years and followed that up with 26 years at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Anthony and Eileen were married in 1953 and were together until her passing in 2016. The family moved to Staten Island in 1964 where they were active parishioners at St. Joseph St. Thomas and played an important role in the development of the parish and the associated grammar school.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, from 7 pm to 9 pm at Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home in Tottenville.

Gordon W. Ekstrand - September 29, 1922 - March 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: Gordon W. Ekstrand, Army veteran of WWII and Long-life resident of Tottenville.
Gordon W. Ekstrand was born in Tottenville and graduated from Tottenville High School in 1940. He worked for Chase Manhattan Bank before serving in the U.S.Army from 1942 to 1946. He served in Europe with the 3rd Army under General George Patton as a Technician fourth grade. After his discharge, he worked for General Cable Corp in Perth Amboy, New Jersey for 18 years. He married his wife Mildred Ekstrand on June 12, 1954, at Bethel United Methodist Church and together operated Ekstrand’s Florist in Tottenville for 25 years before retiring in 1988.
He was a commander of Beauvais-Hudson Post no. 126, American Legion, and active in the honor guard. In 2007, he was named Legioneer of the year for Staten Island. He was also a member of the Huguenot Lodge of Mason’s, Tottenville Chapter AARP, Mt. Loretto Friendship Club. He was also past president of the South Shore Flag Day Parade Association and served on Troop 46 Boy Scout Committee. He was proud to watch his two sons go through scouting and become Eagle Scouts.
He was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church and served on many committees which included The Trustees, Administrative, and Memorial Committees. In May of 1991, he, his wife, and 100 veterans of the 16th Armored Division and their wives traveled through Vienna to Plzen, Czechoslovakia. While they were there for three days, President Havel and the U.S. Ambassador, Shirley Temple Black, and the people of the city gave them a parade and a celebration for liberating them during World War II.
Gordon is predeceased by his wife Mildred Ekstrand who passed in February of 2020. Gordon is survived by his two sons Ralph and Harry, his brother Richard; his five grandchildren Ralph, Lynn, Karl, Erik, and Amanda; and his great-grandchild Aurora; as well as nephews and cousins.

Phil is survived by his wife of 17 years, Erin Carollo. He is also survived by daughter Sophia Carollo, son Giovanni Carollo, father Giovanni Carollo, mother Pietra Carollo, sister MariaConcetta Cipriano, brother-in-law Anthony Cipriano, sister-in-law Jennifer Lioce, brother-in-law Chris Lioce, nephew Salvatore Cipriano, nephew John Cipriano, niece Cristina Cipriano, nephew Christopher Lioce, niece Jessica Lioce, great-nephew Antonino Cipriano, great-newphew Michael Cipriano, great-niece MariaLina Cipriano and great-niece Valentina Cipriano. Services are being handled by Bedell Pizzo Funeral Home, 7447  Amboy Road, New York 10307 (718)984-0913. Visitation is Friday, March 4, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Funeral is Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery. No man could have been prouder of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; they were his entire world. Butch was a talented writer, as was his wife, who was a published author. His final written word was the epitaph on his wife's headstone which simply stated; “My children are my legacy, my words, their gift”.

Camillo DiClerico - June 10, 1943 - February 16, 2022

Obituary Preview: Camillo Louis DiClerico, 78, died on February 16, 2022, following a brief battle with cancer.
Camillo was a native Staten Islander, born on June 10, 1943 to Louis and Mary DiClerico. He grew up in New Brighton with his cousins and large extended family nearby.
Camillo, affectionately called Butch, attended McKee Technical High School, and graduated from Curtis High School. He studied pre-engineering part-time at Staten Island Community College. He was a police officer for two years before serving in the United States Navy aboard USS INGRAHAM (DD-694) as a Petty Officer Third Class (Signalman) during Vietnam. After returning from active duty, Camillo returned to his job as a police officer, and was part of the Navy Reserves until being honorably discharged in 1971.
Camillo served on the New York Police Department from 1965-1984. He began as an officer in the 62nd Precinct in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, and then joined Highway Patrol (HESSI). In 1983 he was honored by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, the City of New York, and the Detective Crime Clinic of Metropolitan New Jersey, New York and Connecticut for heroic action in the line of duty. In 1984 he received The New York City Police Department Combat Cross from Mayor Ed Koch.
Camillo married Janet DiStefano of Arrochar in 1971. They had a loving marriage, and raised 3 children together in their home of over 40 years in Prince's Bay. He was a devoted husband, which was especially apparent during his wife's two separate battles with cancer. He was a dedicated father who treasured time with his family and valued holidays, traditions, and family dinners. Summer was his favorite time of year. He loved the sunshine and backyard barbecues.
Camillo was known for his sense of humor and storytelling, often sharing tales of his time "on the job". He was full of life advice that often came in the form of amusing sayings, many of which were passed down from his father. Camillo loved learning, and in the last few years, enjoyed watching YouTube tutorials on a wide range of topics. He was inventive, creative and very handy, taking on countless home projects over the years. He was proud of his home, and his roots as a native Staten Islander.
Camillo is survived by his children: Christopher DiClerico, Valerie DiClerico, Lisa DiClerico, and his son-in-law Alex Schindler. He is predeceased by his wife Janet, and his sister Angela Raia (nee DiClerico).
A visitation will be held at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home on Monday, February 21, 2022  from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
