Allegra Jean Gleeson - October 08, 1928 - April 11, 2021

Departed: 04/11/2021 (Brookfield)
Obituary Preview: Passed away on April 11, 2021 at the age of 92 surrounded by her loving family. Allegra will be dearly missed by her two children Eileen (Jim Fischer) and Brien (Michelle); grandchildren Amber, Andrew, Madeleine (William Calawerts) and Connor; as well as her sister, Sharon Kuhn. She is also survived by her Uncle, Robert Zeigler; sister-in-law, Margaret Fink; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Roy and Margaret Fink; brother, Barry Fink; brother-in-law, Ronald Kuhn; nephew, Eric Fink as well as her ex-husband J. Clark Gleeson.
Allegra was born in 1928 in York, PA to Roy and Margaret (née Zeigler) Fink.  She and her two siblings (Barry and Sharon) had a nearly idyllic childhood surrounded by her beloved grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  She attended William Penn Senior High School and after graduation became a dental assistant, but her free time was spent going dancing, especially when the big bands came to town.
In 1951 she married J. Clark Gleeson, Jr. and they eventually had a daughter (Eileen) and a son (Brien) who were her pride and joy.  The couple lived all over the country, ending up in Chicago where the marriage ended after 20 years.  At this point Allegra became a single mother working hard to raise her 2 kids and making a career for herself in various support positions mostly in the health care industry.  In 1975 she moved back to York to care for her mother and immediately got a position with the Women’s Healthcare Group that turned out to be her dream job.  She found the work so meaningful and satisfying that she stayed for 25 years.
After her retirement, she devoted her time to Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church (her lifelong faith community) and the Salvation Army, where she organized numerous activities and fundraising events and served several terms as the president of the Women’s Auxiliary.
Throughout her life, Allegra’s passion was collecting and refinishing antiques and she took enormous pride in creating a home where all of her treasures came together in a warm and beautiful space.  In 2014, when she moved to Wisconsin to be nearer her family, she was able to create a new home for her antiques in a senior apartment complex.  Once again she took an active role in the community, starting a book club, helping with rummage sales, making soup for their monthly community meals and organizing several concerts for her neighbors.
This past year the pandemic and her declining health led her to move in with her daughter where she created one last special space, packing her bedroom (or as she liked to call it, her antique gift shop) with her cherished belongings.  It was here where she passed quietly in her sleep surrounded by her loving family.
A Funeral Service for Allegra will take place at a later date.

Dianne Lynn Henke - October 15, 1948 - April 02, 2021

Departed: 04/02/2021 (Brookfield)
Obituary Preview: Dianne Lynn (Stark) Henke (72) born October 15, 1948 returned to stardust on April 2, 2021 following a life full of reinvention and acceptance, especially true of her final five years living with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).
Dianne grew up in Menasha, Wisconsin as the oldest of 10 children. She was educated at St. Mary’s School and continued her education at St. Norbert College, where she graduated with a teaching degree.
For the past 38 years, she and her husband, Brian Henke, consciously raised three children in a household abounding with love, acceptance, passion, and humor. In early motherhood, Dianne began a lifelong commitment to helping others. She devoted herself to community betterment and served on several inner-city task forces focused on crime, drugs and housing. Following a 2001 Mission Trip to Guatemala, she co-founded the non-profit, Global Partners: Running Waters, which focuses on bringing potable water to communities in Latin America. Concurrently, she actively promoted peace and justice in Latin America through lobbying and organizing groups to travel to close the School of the Americas (SOA).
From protesting and lobbying, she transitioned to the more private, yet profoundly revolutionary, acts of biodynamic gardening and beekeeping. As she explored each new aspect of herself, her love for the cosmos and for the diverse peoples it holds deepened.
In 2015, ALS started to unfurl a slow, yet continuous series of losses in physical ability; everyday became a new normal. Just as she had throughout her life, Dianne accepted each iteration of herself. And like always, she insisted on living each new day on her own terms. She was a fiercely independent acceptor. She fed herself until it became impossible. She maintained her extreme vitamin regime until it became impossible to swallow—then she chewed them. She refused to communicate through blinks when she could still use her voice. She accepted, but never gave up what wasn’t taken by the disease. While there is no elegance in ALS, she maintained dignity, grace, and unwavering positivity.
Dianne’s spirit is alive each time we make an authentic connection with someone different than us, every time we choose to live more consciously, every time we hug a tree.
She is survived by her husband Brian, her three children and spouses Elizabeth (Tito), Gordon (Jacki), JoLynn (Justen), three grandchildren (Andreu, Pau, Diana) and grand-dogs (Biscuit and Ripley), her nine Stark brothers and sisters and their families: Margaret and Mike Mullen (Wade and Matthew) James Stark Patricia and Dave McWaters (Stacey and Chelle) Linda and Scott Morey (Ryan and Kelly) Sandra and Brian Hale (Louis) Giles and Amy (Heidi, Molly and John) Francis Stark Robert and Sally Stark (Haley and Megan) Ann and Tim Rausch (Maddie, Johnnie, Erin, Eric, and TJ) plus the whole of humanity which she loved as family, and a universe full of hope. Details for a celebration of life in July 2021 will be shared later at Becker Ritter Funeral Home. Memorial donations would be appreciated to Global Partners: Running Waters. Marcia Mae Rothman - March 12, 1946 - March 31, 2021

Departed: 03/31/2021 (Brookfield)
Obituary Preview: Marcia Mae Rothman (age 75) of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin passed away on March 31, 2021, in Wauwatosa. Marcia met her husband of 50 years, Philip B. Rothman, while they were students at Wausau Senior High School in Wausau, Wisconsin. Marcia captured Phil’s heart immediately. He walked her to the bus stop, held her books in one arm, and dropped his other arm casually next to hers “just in case” she wanted to hold his hand (she did). They arranged a double date with friends and Phil told Marcia he’d pick her up that night. Marcia wondered how he’d find her since she hadn’t given him her address but that was okay – Phil had already driven by her house at least fifteen times. Marcia knew that Phil was the one for her. Later, when another girl went to get in the front seat of his car, Marcia vaulted over the seat and sat next to Phil first. From then on it was always Phil and Marcia. After graduating in 1964, they went to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where Marcia earned her Bachelors of Science in Sociology in 1968.
Marcia and Phil were married on April 10, 1970, in Wausau. Just days after their honeymoon, on April 28, 1970, Phil left for a tour of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. Marcia worked as the teen program director at the Wausau YWCA. Phil came home in 1971 and he and Marcia moved to Milwaukee. Marcia worked at Nicolet High School until their son Eric was born in 1973. Their daughter Anna followed in 1974. Marcia was an amazing mother. A description of the love and support she showed her children would take pages to write. In the mid 1980’s Marcia returned to work full-time at the Wauwatosa Public Library, where she worked until she retired in 2014.
Marcia loved reading, baking, home decorating, plays at “The Rep,” dinner and game nights with friends and family gatherings. When her children were young she and Phil planned many cross-country road trips. Later, she and Phil continued exploring the country at a more leisurely pace with Marcia’s sister Susan and her husband John.
Marcia is survived by her husband Philip, her son Eric (Sheryl) of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, her daughter Anna (Scott) of Rescue, California, her grandchildren Sophia, Elizabeth, Wesley and Cecilia, her siblings Janice (Dick) Doede, Philip (Ginger) McCullough, Susan (John) Brothers and numerous other members of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Simeon and Vera McCullough, and her infant sister, Mary Ellen.
Marcia’s funeral service will be held at Elmbrook Church, 777 S Barker Rd, in Brookfield on Friday April 9, 2021. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, 14875 W. Greenfield Ave in New Berlin.

Obituary Preview: Carrol Dixen, 83, found peace on March 13, 2021 surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born in Ladysmith, Wisconsin on December 14, 1937 to Eugene and Adeline Patrin (Stillman). Carrol grew up in the St. Paul area, spending many days as her Dad’s helper in the family businesses, including cutting and selling Christmas trees.
With the encouragement of her mom, Carrol accepted the paperboy’s invitation to prom. Love soon followed. Duane and Carrol were married at St. Paul’s Church, St. Paul, Minnesota on June 20, 1959. Together they created a life of love and laughter, as they moved across the nation to follow Duane’s career. With each move Carrol made their house a true home, with little touches of her art throughout.
Carrol made sure their three daughters were guided through childhood with love and a good amount of advice from a realist. There were many adventures to the beach, with school activities, amusement parks, and finding treasures around town. The neighborhood kids always knew that Mrs. Dixen’s house was the place to be.
Carrol was always happy to spoil her four grandkids just a little, and a bit of sage advice was always included with the treats. She made sure they always had socks, and most Christmas gifts included at least one pair. Carrol started working young and took on many jobs through the years including as a theater usher at the Lyceum Theater and sign maker at a Schuneman’s Department Store in St. Paul;  crossing guard for the Rockaway, NJ School District; and cashier at Grasch Foods in Brookfield, WI. She worked at the JC Penney Catalog store for many years until her retirement in 2002 Carrol was never afraid of trying to fix anything that needed it, from broken toys to the muffler on the big red car. She always said that once you know how something works you can figure out how to fix it. She was particularly good with rehabilitating and reupholstering furniture
Carrol was most at home in the garden and had many flower and vegetable beds. Her gardens were always expanding and she was always happy to share her plants with friends.
Carrol was preceded in death by her husband Duane (2016); sisters Betty Beldon, Fran (Bob) Urbanski, Marylou Wood and Shirley (Bob) Carpenter; and brother James (Eileen) Patrin.
She is survived by daughters Marguerite Dixen of Chicago, Dianne (Jeff) Dixen Bedard of Brookfield, and Christine Martens (Michael)of Wausau; grandchildren Greta Martens of Madison, Carl Martens of Stevens Point, Eric Bedard and Zachary Bedard of Brookfield; special friends Beth and Jules Christiansen; brother Eugene (Debbie) Patrin, brother-in-law Robert Carpenter and sister-in-law Eileen Patrin.
No funeral arrangements are pending. In Lieu of flowers please direct donations to Boerner Botanical Gardens in Milwaukee or socks to your local shelter.
