William Lucas Mazyck - August 19, 1964 - March 19, 2020

Departed: 03/19/2020 (Indian Harbour Beach)
Obituary Preview: Lucas died at 11:58 a.m. on March 19, 2020 surrounded by family and friends.
William Lucas Mazyck, Jr., known as Lucas was born on the Presidio in San Francisco, California on August 19, 1964 to Colonel (Ret.) William Lucas Mazyck, Sr. and Geraldine North Mazyck. As a child of a military officer, he moved almost every three years, spending time in Augsburg, Germany; San Francisco, California; Ft. Richie, Maryland; Indian Harbour Beach, Florida; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Ft. Lee, Virginia; Munich, Germany; before returning to Indian Harbour Beach, Florida in 1983. Through his middle and high school years, he participated in sports, concert band, jazz band and Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Life Scout before moving to Germany. When he moved to Munich, Germany, he joined the high school football team. He graduated from Munich American High School in 1982.
He received his Associate’s degree from Brevard Community College. He worked in Brevard County for many years with Jim Foster in landscaping and then with Greg Spillers as a house painter. He developed a respiratory illness in the late nineties and subsequently was classified as disabled. From that point, he was unable to work and spent much of his time at home.
More than anything, Lucas was the sounding board for many family members, friends and even friends of the family. He had the most amazing ability to really listen, offer sound advice and make sure that people knew that they were heard. He enjoyed music immensely and like his wide community of friends, his taste in music covered all genres. He was generally shy and reserved until he really was familiar with people. Once he developed a relationship with someone, he loved to share a good laugh and had a laugh that sounded like pure joy. He often enjoyed game night and gaming with his friends, even his friends who lived out of state. He was also referred to as a “baby whisperer” and was able to calm most babies in a matter of minutes. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and especially by those whom he regularly called just to say hello and share a laugh.
He is survived by his parents Colonel (Ret.) William L. Mazyck and Geraldine North Mazyck, his four siblings, Karen Thomas, Gregory Mazyck, Brigitte Earl and Kimberly Mazyck, his nieces and nephews: Patrice Serena DeCuir (Miles); Alexander Mazyck Thomas (Michelle); Katherine Rose Owens; Marcus Gregory Mazyck; Aaron Patrick Lucas Mazyck; Lillian Owens and Alexander Mazyck Thomas, Jr. He also is survived by his dear aunts Mary Smalls, Carolyn Rouse, Francina Rouse, Amanda Mazyck and Ann Mazyck and a list of endless cousins and friends whom he cherished.

Frank Samuel Kapral - February 15, 1929 - March 17, 2020

Departed: 03/17/2020 (Indian Harbour Beach)
Obituary Preview: Captain Frank S. Kapral (USCG, Retired), 91, of East Lyme, Connecticut passed away at his son’s home in Palm Bay, Florida in the early hours of March 17, 2020, after a long struggle with dementia and other health issues. He was in the company of his wife of 68 years, Doris, and family at the time of his passing.
He was a well-known member of the Southeastern Connecticut community, having served for 26 years as an instructor, coach, assistant athletic director and business manager of athletics at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
Born February 15, 1929 in Courtdale, Pennsylvania, Frank was the youngest of five children. He excelled in athletics at Luzerne High School, where he graduated in 1946, and went on to wrestle and play football for Wyoming Seminary for an additional two years after high school.
Following graduation from Wyoming Seminary, Frank attended Michigan State University where he was a standout football player and wrestler from 1948 to 1952. He was a National AAU 191-pound champion in wrestling and earned All-American recognition as a first-string offensive guard on the 1951 undefeated Michigan State football team, which ranked second in the nation. Later that year, Frank was selected to play in the Blue-Gray Football Classic, where he captained the Blue Team and earned a position on the All-Time Blue Team for his outstanding performance. His accomplishments did not end on the field. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and won the Potsy Ross Award for Outstanding Student/Athlete during his tenure at Michigan State.
In 1952, Frank was drafted by the Green Bay Packers and played for them briefly before being called to active duty as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War period. Following his military service, he began a career as a teacher and coach at two Michigan high schools and Dartmouth College. In 1958, Frank arrived at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he became the head wrestling coach and an assistant football coach under Professional Football Hall of Fame Member, Otto Graham.
While coaching at the Academy, he helped lead the 1963 Coast Guard Academy football team to an undefeated season and a trip to the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Florida. He later served as head coach of the Coast Guard Academy football team for two seasons.
Frank served as varsity wrestling coach at the Coast Guard Academy for seven seasons, posting a 56-14-4 record and producing a number of New England champions. He founded the Coast Guard Invitational Wrestling Tournament, which grew from six to eighteen schools under his leadership and included some of the finest wrestling talent in the country. He was also appointed to the NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee for the New England States in 1962 and served as Commissioner of the Southeastern Connecticut Interscholastic Wrestling Officials’ Association for over a decade.
Frank’s focus on coaching did not end on at the college level. He took his programs to the community of southeastern Connecticut, founding the Coast Guard Academy’s Small Fry Wrestling Program for boys between the ages of four and eighteen in the 1960s through which hundreds of young people across New England learned the sport. Due to significant community interest and strong participation in these wrestling programs, many area high schools ultimately adopted wrestling into their varsity athletic programs. He was also an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and coached Pee Wee Football for the Town of East Lyme for five seasons. He taught religious education at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New London and was the first lay-person to serve in that capacity at the time.
Frank served on the Permanent Commissioned Teaching Staff and earned his Master of Arts degree in Physical Education. When his coaching days were behind him, heremained a fixture at the Academy, serving as the Business Manager of Athletics until his retirement in 1984, by which time he had risen to the rank of Captain. Following retirement, he stayed active in the community and served as a substitute teacher; was an active member and daily communicant at St Mathias Catholic Church, volunteered at the Bayview Nursing Home and delivered meals with the Meals on Wheels program for twenty five years.
Frank’s career accomplishments were many. He was inducted into the Luzerne County Athletic Hall of Fame, the Wyoming Seminary Athletic Hall of Fame (1976), and the Coast Guard Athletic Hall of Fame (1979). He was named “Man of the Year” for New England College Wrestling in 1988. He authored two widely used textbooks published by Prentice Hall, Coach’s Illustrated Guide to Championship Wrestling (1964) and Coach’s Illustrated Guide to Championship Football (1967). After his retirement he was named a Professor Emeritus at the Coast Guard Academy.
Frank’s ultimate accomplishment, however, was his family. He and his wife Doris met in high school and married in 1951. Together, they raised six children and lived more than 60 years in southeastern Connecticut.
As Frank was known to say, “to be successful in the game of life, you must develop three kinds of bones: a funny bone, a wish bone, and a backbone. A funny bone – so you don’t take yourself so seriously that you can’t enjoy a laugh at your own expense. A wishbone – for your dreams and ambitions, and a backbone – for the perseverance and strength to rise each day and go to work to make your dreams and ambitions come true.” Frank had all three types of bones, and he is and will always be a source of inspiration and joy to his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, his sister, Mary Kokinda of Courtdale, Pennsylvania and his six children: Linda Kapral Papp of Fairfax Station, Virginia, and her husband Admiral Robert Papp (USCG Retired); Lisa Moukawsher of Ladera Ranch, California; Regina Turgeon of Norwich, Connecticut and her husband Michael; Renee Pendleton of Winter Garden, Florida, and her husband Commander Fred Pendleton (USCG, Retired); Lieutenant Colonel Gregory Kapral (USA, Retired) and his wife Mary, of Palm Bay, Florida; and Kerri LeBeau of East Lyme, Connecticut and her husband Greg. They have 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Frank is predeceased by his parents, George and Helen Kapral, brothers, George, John, and Michael Kapral, and one son-in-law, Commander E. James Moukawsher (USCG).
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 21st at the historic St Joseph Catholic Church in Palm Bay, Florida. The Rite of Committal and burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.

Sandra Pullig Terry - March 26, 1959 - March 12, 2020

Departed: 03/12/2020 (Indian Harbour Beach)
Obituary Preview: Sandra Pullig Terry, known as Sandy by those close to her, was a beloved mother of three, small business owner, and retired engineer. She is survived by her three children, Jared, Amanda, and Ethan Terry and their significant others. Born and raised in Louisiana, Sandy moved to Melbourne, Florida at the beginning of her first career, being among the first women in the engineering field to work for Harris. She was known for her enthusiastic and strong work ethic. Her greatest satisfaction came by pulling together very different people to form strong teams that worked well together. People wanted to work with Sandy as she made work enjoyable and fun. Very few shared the drive and determination that Sandy had for her work. She excelled at her job, moving up the ranks and managing teams, taking pride in the successes of those around her, while simultaneously raising her three children.
Sandy loved making people feel welcome and went out of her way to invite her friends and family into her household. She played host to many overnight visits, and having friends over to share in her company brought her great joy. She loved hosting large yearly Thanksgiving gatherings for her family and close friends alike, and during the holiday season, everyone looked forward to her traditional family recipes. Sandy always looked out for people and she fiercely supported those she was close to. If she thought you were down or hurting, she would not hesitate to reach out in ways that may have seemed extreme to an average person.
Upon her retirement, she decided to open Painting with a Twist in downtown Melbourne with her long time friend Margo Descovich. Aside from working tirelessly for her kids and business, Sandy loved hiking, traveling, walking on the beach, and reading a good book. She was the most generous and caring person in any room she walked into. She had spunk and charisma and a smile on her face, even through her three year battle with breast cancer. Sandy fought hard and gained three extra years, Christmases, and birthdays, giving her more time with her family and friends, which we are all grateful for. She was kind, generous, and caring beyond words. She will leave a hole in hearts that knew and loved her.
The children will hold an open house remembrance at Sandy’s condo on the beach for anyone who would like to pay their respects or offer condolences on Sunday, March 22 from 12-3pm. Drop by whenever you can, and please keep in mind parking is limited. Carpooling is recommended. As many of you know, Sandy hated the camera and her kids would love to see any photos you may have and hear the stories behind them.
