Sylvia C Pitselos - September 29, 1918 - September 20, 2023

Departed: 09/20/2023 (Brooklyn)
Obituary Preview: Sissy’s Passing M
Y DEAR SWEET MOTHER, SYLVIA (CHRYSULA CHIRGOTIS) PITSELOS, has left us on 9/20/2023. Sis will have been 105 years old on September 29. But now she will return to Brooklyn, her loving family, and her husband, George, for interment.
I remember Mom as always smiling, generous, and loving. She treated everyone as a sister or brother. Sylvia believed she will be reunited with her wonderful and caring parents, lifelong sibling companions, and other relatives. Sissy considered her nieces, nephews, and neighbors’ children her own. Always ready to lend a loving, comforting, and helping hand. Chrisoula will be warmed by being reunited with them.
As I look at her now, she seems she is beautiful, as much as the first time I saw beauty in women. It is her spirit shining through her soon-to-be interred body. I am blessed to have her to care for; she protected and loved me as much as anyone could.
I was fortunate to have had her for so long. I will never stop loving and missing her. There will always be a missing spirit in my life.
At this occurrence, my thoughts also turn to all those that we have already lost. I am comforted by the belief that we, the living, will have all of them to welcome us upon our own departure.
Mom is survived by her son John and loving nephews and nieces.
You are all welcome to spend a little time in her remembrance on your own. If you wish, you are all invited to the proceedings, with my thanks and Mom’s appreciation. Johnny

Michael Rinkovsky - November 28, 1942 - August 07, 2023

Departed: 08/07/2023 (Brooklyn)
Obituary Preview: Michael Rinkovsky, of Huguenot, fell asleep in the Lord on August 7, 2023. He was born in Czechoslovakia during World War 2. He completed several vocational and technical certifications and also served in the Czechoslovak Air Force where he trained in highly specialized operations including tactical air control and defense.
In 1968, he immigrated to the United States and embraced the ideals of his newly adopted country. He quickly assimilated into American culture but continued to preserve and celebrate the traditions and customs he brought over with him from his native land. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, NYC for well over 50 years.
He began his career in banking in 1972 and through many mergers and spin-offs over the years, worked for various banks. He finally retired after 35 years of continuous service, ironically, from the very company he started at.
After a life of hard work, retirement treated him well. At home, he spent most of his time outdoors maintaining his vegetable garden, fruit trees, and meticulous lawn and as soon as the town church bell would ring at 12 noon, he would go inside, open up one warm and one cold beer so he could enjoy the rest of the day his way. He enjoyed visits back to Slovakia to spend time with family and vacations at his second home in Florida where he played golf and spent long days at the beach. Wherever he was, he was the life of the party, entertaining family and friends with stories and songs, and sharing the lessons he learned from his life, his travels and from others.
His incredible work ethic and grit fueled his greatest gift which was his desire and ability to take care of his family. Charity for him began at home, and he learned through the confluence of faith and work, that his dedication to his family would pay dividends perpetually.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Tina, loving daughter Monica, and his three greatest loves…grandchildren, Alexandra, Justin, and Ava. He was predeceased by son, Lado. Also survived by sisters, Maria Kmecova, Helena Hlinkova, brother Jan, as well as many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, and lifelong friends.
Blessed Repose…Vicnaja Jemu Pamjat. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with Parastas at 7:00 PM on Friday, August 11, 2023 at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. 28 Eltingville Blvd. Staten Island, New York 10312 Divine Liturgy 9:15 AM on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church 246 East 15th St New York, NY 10003. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify people of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a sense of closure for loved ones.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the obituary is written by a family member, close friend, or funeral home staff. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service, charitable donations in lieu of flowers, and any other relevant information.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, usually including only the basic facts such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that provides additional information about the person's life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?
