Leon Jackson - July 07, 1948 - February 26, 2023

Departed: 02/26/2023 (Bastrop)
Obituary Preview: Brother Leon Jackson, Jr. was born July 7, 1948 in Galion, Louisiana to the late Theresie Price Jackson and Leon Jackson, Sr. He confessed Christ at any early age and united with the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptish Church in Galion, where he remained a faithful member until he moved to Red Oak, Texas in 1992.
Bro. Leon, affectionately known as “June Bug” by family and friends, graduated from Union High School in Mer Rouge, Louisiana in 1966, where he was a standout baseball player. In 1967, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Alma Joyce Jones, and to this union two children were born, Cynthia Jackson Seay and April Jackson. For years, Bro. Leon managed the Safeway grocery store in Bastrop, Louisiana and later relocated his family to El Dorado, Arkansas where he continued to move up the ranks. In 1983, he became a manager at Collins Foods in Bastrop, one of the first Black grocery store managers in North Louisiana. While in Bonita, Bro. Leon was a member of the Webb Choice #39, Prince Hall Affiliate. In 1992, Bro. Leon moved to Red Oak, Texas and worked several years with the U.S. Postal Service and DART Container.
Bro. Leon was known to be cool as a fan; always well-dressed, with a fresh haircut and a cadre of cars and trucks that he always kept clean. His prized possessions were his vintage 1968 Ford pickup truck and black Toyota Celica sports car. Bro. Leon enjoyed live music, going out for a night on the town, and slamming those dominos at a Friday night fish fry. He knew how to have a good time with his friends. An avid hunter and sports fan, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren watching the Dallas Cowboys and any football, baseball and basketball games.
During his later years, Bro. Leon worshipped with the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Paul E. Walker.
He departed his earthly home on February 26, 2023, with his daughters by his side. He was preceded in death by his father Leon Jackson, Sr. and his mother Theresie Price Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Cynthia Jackson Seay (Warren Sr.) of DeSoto, TX and April Jackson (Shelton McWilson) of Bonita, LA. Three sisters, Irma Crosby of Red Oak, TX, Lois King (Charles) of Bastrop, LA, Rosie Rafter (Lewis) of Little Rock, AR. Two brothers, Edward Jackson (Theresa) of Gary, IN and Leon Jackson Green of Rayville, LA. Five grandchildren: Dyamond Seay Williams (Patrick) of DeSoto, TX., Warren Seay, Jr. of Washington, D.C., Corderius Seay of Dallas, TX., Shemara Jackson of Baton Rouge, LA., and Serenity Jackson of DeSoto, TX. Four great-grandchildren August Williams and Aubri Williams of DeSoto, TX., Amari Moore and Avaya Moore of Baton Rouge, LA.; Best Friend and Brother, Charles (Shirley) Bethea of Bastrop, LA., along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. To God be the Glory for a Life Well-Lived!
