Brenda Baker - November 19, 1945 - April 27, 2021

Obituary Preview: Brenda Robinson Baker took up residence to her new home in Heaven on April 27, 2021. She was born November 19, 1945 in Huntington West Virginia to the late James Creed Robinson and Pauline Robinson of South Charleston SC. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her grandson Jason Ratcliff, a grandaughter Heaven Gordon Brenda worked for many years as a telecommunications operator at PTL Ministries in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Brenda felt the healing touch of the Lord many times and wrote about her experiences in her book, “Light at the End of the Tunnel”. She was also a public speaker whose life inspired many people throughout her lifetime. She will be missed terribly by her friends and family on earth, but we will rejoice that Brenda has a brand new body and is now in the holy presence of Our Father in Heaven. Brenda is survived by her husband, Jimmy Baker of Charleston SC; one son, Jay Ratcliff (Beth) of South Carolina; one daughter, Pauli Gordon of South Carolina; two sisters, Pamela Aultz and Carol Barefield and her husband Rob both of South Charleston; three grandchildren, James Chapman, Breanna Gordon and Ashley Babaa and her husband Aaron; seven great-grandchildren, Abel Taylor, Lillian, Aris, Allison Ratcliff, Bailey, Colton, Carter and Knox Chapman.
A memorial service celebrating Brenda’s life will be held at a later date in South Carolina.

Obituary Preview: Jose De Santos, “Pepe”, 58 of Rock Springs, GA formerly of Rock Hill, SC, peacefully went to be with the Lord and Savior Saturday, April 24, 2021. He was born March 19, 1963 in New York, New York. Father Secundino Garcia Mother Felicia Garcia.
Jose was preceded in death by his sister, Hilda Garcia.
His loving children of four, Tatiana De Los Santos, Elvis De Los Santos and Jeremy De Los Santos will always be grateful for the life lessons he has given them. His love in oldies music and movies will be continued through his children and through memories.
He was loved by his beautiful wife, Ana M Navarro. They were actively involved in ministry. They enjoyed each and everyday going to church and attended schooling to be teachers.
Pepe was a fun-loving man. His bright smile lit up every room which took little effort. He was a social butterfly as he connected with so many people telling them about the Lord. He always made sure to lead by example to his children to be servant to the Lord and making sure to always put others first before themselves.
Pepe enjoyed talking about his favorite sport teams, Miami Dolphins and New York Mets. He collected so many baseball cards, ticket stubs and sports memorabilia which he would spend hours telling the memories behind each delicate item. He always made sure he was first and the last one on the field ensuring to let his children know the importance of being connected not only with the sport but with others.
Jose was an active member of South Side Baptist Church and Harvest Deaf Ministry. He was part of the drama club to which he was to play the part Moses in the Fall. With every given chance, he traveled across the country with his brother and sisters from the church to spread the gospel.
Most important to him was his family, he always made sure to let others know by showing them pictures by phone or social media if not daily, hourly. He will always be remembered as an energetic, devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend and Brother.
A celebration of life service will be held by the family.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and condolences to friends, family members, church family, baseball family and friends for their compassionate and supportive care.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Larry Donahue lll,  her son Larry Donahue, one sister Eva Blakley and one brother Hugh Mauldin lll.
Ellen loved working outside, talking with friends and walking around the neighborhood. She spent over 50 years a a beautician.
She is survived by her son Scott Donahue and his wife Summer. Grandchildren Grey and Neely Donahue. Sister Edie Wilson (John), Maria Stewart and Nicki Williams. Brothers Claude Mauldin (Wanda) and Bubba Mauldin. Nieces Angie Hawkins, Carrie Lincoln, Amy Hutchinson and Christy Ballard. Nephews Tim Mauldin, Jeff Mauldin, TMFM and Johnny Blakley.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 1 PM at Grandview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 11am - 12:30pm  on Wednesday at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home.

Theodore Steven Hoffman, Jr. - July 23, 1956 - April 22, 2021

Obituary Preview: Theodore "Ted" Hoffman, Jr., aka Poppy of Rock Hill, SC, formerly of Bel Air, MD, died April 22, 2021. Born in Maryland, he was the son of the late Theodore S. Hoffman, Sr. and Martha "Molly" Gorman Hoffman.
Ted was in the Freight Forwarding business for 20 years plus. Recently worked at Red Wing Shoes.
His life revolved around his family. He loved his family more than life itself.
He enjoyed having his hair done by his granddaughter, Addison. She would accent it with ribbons, barrettes and color it. He enjoyed playing Barbies, coloring, store, and restaurant with his grand-daughters. He would play anything with his "girls". He was a wonderful, loving Father and Grandfather.
He enjoyed making people laugh. He did stand-up comedy in his earlier days. He loved listening to rock-n-roll. He enjoyed conversations with his longtime friend, Charlie.
Ted leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Karen Godwin Hoffman, daughter Whitney H. Whitesides, son-in-law Quay, and grand-children, Addison, Evey and Hunter. In addition he leaves behind his sisters Lisa H. Rios and Janine H. McMillian along with nephews, nieces and his brother-in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kim Ataei-Kachuei.

Alexander "Zippy" Edwards, Jr. - September 23, 1961 - April 21, 2021

Obituary Preview: Alexander Edwards Jr. “Zippy”, 59 of Rock Hill, SC peacefully went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Atrium Healthcare in Charlotte NC.
He was born on September 23, 1961 in Rock Hill SC son of the late Alexander Edwards Sr and Lois Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Alexander Gaines (Cosell).
Zippy has always been ambitious since he started working at 16. He has always kept busy working jobs from hanging sheetrock with his brother Bernard to becoming a cook at KFC for over 25 years which he retired from due to his health, but he still loved cooking for his family. Zippy loved telling jokes, having fun and making sure his family was taken care of. He was a humble laid-back man, never for trouble, always peaceful. Zippy liked fishing, watching martial arts movies, his favorite actors were Bruce Lee and John Claude Van Damme. His football team was The Dallas Cowboys. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also getting ready to welcome his first Granddaughter, but he shall be with her in spirit.
Most important to him was his family and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
He leaves to be cherished by his survivors his wife of 31 years, GaVonda Murray-Edwards. Sons Johnathon Cousar (Amanda) of Rock Hill SC and Keenen Edwards (Bridgette) of Rock Hill SC. Five sisters Lucille McClure, Dorothy Hutchinson, Jacqulin Watson (Gene) all of Rock Hill SC. Mary Davis of Columbia SC and Janice Dunham (Terry) of Catawba SC. One brother Ronald Bernard Burris (Wendy) of Rock Hill SC and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the physicians at Atrium Health Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute and to all the nurses on 7B floor at Atrium Healthcare.
A special thanks to Cherie Cone and Talicia Spann and to the attendants that set with Zippy during his time of need.
Everyone’s unwavering compassionate supportive care that was provided was greatly appreciative. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

A native of Rock Hill, SC Mr. Duncan was a son of the late Col. Oliver Lynwood Duncan, Sr. and Jean Spanbauer Duncan.  Mr. Duncan was an Army Veteran. He achieved a Master’s Degree from Winthrop University.  He served as a professor at York Technical College and owned/managed his own business Duncan Mobile Home Park.  He was known as a businessman who owned other properties throughout York County.
Surviving are his loving wife of 27 years, Alice Canup Duncan; a son, George Thomas Duncan; two-step children, Brian Lewis and Melissa Helms (Chad), and two grandchildren, Makaylyn Helms and Brennan Helms.

Obituary Preview: Helen (Rembowski) Krawiec, 93, of Rock Hill, SC, formerly of Somers and Rocky Hill, CT entered into eternal rest Monday, April 12, 2021 after battling Parkinson’s disease for over 30 years.  She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond T Krawiec.  Born in Southampton, Long Island, N.Y., she lived in Somers for many years before moving to Rocky Hill and last year moving to Rock Hill, SC.  She was formerly employed as a dental assistant.  She was known for her dry sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara A Zlotnick of Sneads Ferry, NC, son Thomas R Krawiec and wife, Annie of Lake Wylie, SC, granddaughter Jennifer L Galasso and husband, Ian of Gallatin, TN, grandsons Peter T Krawiec of Breckenridge, CO, and Scott A Krawiec of Nashville, TN, her sister Sophie Skinger of Norwich, CT and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Zyiewski and Anna Wantuch; brothers, Wesley Rembowski and Edward Carey and her son-in-law Alexander Zlotnick.

Obituary Preview: Kent Frederick Petersen, 72, of Indian Land, SC and formerly of Reading, PA, peacefully passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 surrounded by his loving children. He was born March 5, 1949 in Kenosha, WI, son of the late Fred and Mary (Bartell) Petersen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lynne Gray.
Throughout his personal life and by way of his lifelong career in the automotive industry, Kent had many opportunities to explore the world, stamping his passport in more than 20 countries across 5 continents and living in several for extended periods, with his favorites being Argentina and Thailand. Kent also toured the U.S. extensively, having a particular fondness for the National Parks, visiting as many as he could while collecting pins and patches along the way.
An avid woodworker early in life, Kent was able to return to his craft in retirement and delighted in making furniture and art for family and friends, whether to commemorate a special event or simply as a reminder to others how important they were to him. A member of the woodworking guild in the Sun City Carolina Lakes community, Kent was highly respected for his talent, knowledge, and creativity.
Wherever he called home, Kent welcomed everyone around him in with his hospitality, forging lifelong bonds with people from all over the world through mutual understanding, respectful arguments, and always a glass of bourbon.
He will be remembered as a loving father, brother and uncle, a dedicated friend, a guiding mentor, and an adoring grandfather.
He is survived by his brothers, Jim (Sue) Petersen and Mark (Char) Petersen, both of the family home of Kenosha, WI; his sons Shaun Petersen of Madison WI, and Scott (Lisa) Petersen of Lebanon, PA; his daughter Katie (Matt) Thomas of Longmont, CO; and his granddaughter Riley Thomas; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was born October 8, 1918 to the late Wade Hampton Gantt and Mary Lee Williams Gantt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roy Hudspeth.
Mrs. Hudspeth was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rock Hill and retired from the textile and printing industries.
She leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by her survivors which include two daughters; Sandra Hudspeth and Crystal Kramer, one sister Elizabeth Covington and three granddaughters; Melanie Frame, Tiffany Kramer and Kerri Kramer.
Graveside service will be held 11:00am Monday April 12, 2021 at Laurel Wood Cemetery conducted by Rev. Irvin Plowden. For those that would like to visit with the family of Mrs. Hudspeth they will gather at the funeral home from 9:30am until 10:15am.

Obituary Preview: As a rank-and-file professional auto mechanic and landscape artist, Melvin Olin Melton born March 13, 1935 died peacefully at home on April 6, 2021 due to “Hardheaded and Shrewd Behavior.” He was “Smarter than the Average bear.” Now the angels can sing “Go Rest High on that Mountain Carolina Blue.”
He joined his beautiful mother Atha Aldridge-Melton to celebrate her Apr 2nd birthday, brother Ray Melton (Viet Nam Veteran), and son Donald Melton (Talented Musician), Side-Kick Kobe (the human dog) Melton and his extended heavenly family at the recent age of 86.
Melvin settled all his affairs by “Whooping Somebody’s Ass.” Or a game of 500 Rummy.
Not really. To know Melvin is to love him as we all do. He gave the “Shirt off his Mighty Strong Back” to everyone.
Melvin was an avid NASCAR fan, wrestling critic, and grill master. He could argue the merits of Richard Petty, Haystacks Calhoun, and The Betty Crocker School of the Air.
Melvin is survived by his son Olin Melton and his wife Dr. Bobbie Melton (both Viet Nam Veterans) of Austin TX, brother Ronnie Melton (Viet Nam Veteran) and his wife Margaret Melton of Monroe NC, sister Marsha Stanley and her husband Bill Stanley of Wingate NC, granddaughters Margie Acosta (Black & Decker operations manager) of Charlotte NC and Kendra Melton (two-time Emmy award winner Rick and Morty TV) of Burbank CA, grandsons DJ Melton and Anthony Melton of Charlotte NC, and loving close family Marvin and Lenora Lane (affectionately adopted son and daughter).
There are notable loving care givers that Melvin added to his life story: Roger Boone, Brandon Hobbs, and Jonathan Vanstone, Dr Mathew Thomas (Primary Dr), and the unsung heroes of the Hospice team (Nurse Denise, Chaplain Nate, and Nursing Aide Anitra).

Jim served in the USAF for 20 years 6 months and 18 days, as he would reply when asked how long he served. He did one year in Greenland and 2 tours of the Philippines and other bases in the US.
Born in Colebrook, NH, Jim was the son of the late Marjorie and Wrennie Barnett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Barbara and Jean, brother Fay. He enjoyed golfing, doing jig saw puzzles, which was a challenge he enjoyed. Jim also loved water sports and the Redskins.
Jim is survived by his wife Marsha. Son Christopher and his wife Christina. Daughter Renee and her husband Steve. One granddaughter Megan.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 2 pm at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home.

Jean was a member of Roddey Baptist Church. She loved to sing in church and in the choir. She also loved to cook big meals for family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Marvin & Ruby McRorie. A sister Patrician Ann Jessee and a son Timothy David Wright.
She is survived by her husband Jerry Edge Wright. Brothers Baxter McRorie and Jimmy McRorie. Sons Andrew Lee Wright and Curtis J. Wright. Daughter Patsy Wright Spargo. Six Grandchildren Katie Spargo, Ethan Spargo, Brandon Spargo, Morgan Spargo, Nathaniel Wright and Jada Wright.
Visitation For Mrs. Wright will be held Tuesday March 30, 2021 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Roddey Baptist Church 2678 S. Anderson Rd, Catawba SC.

Dennis Joe Hopkins - July 22, 1952 - March 22, 2021

Obituary Preview: Dennis Joe Hopkins, 68 of Rock Hill, SC peacefully went to the Lord on Monday, March 22, 2021.  He and his loving wife, Lisa, lived a life that was full of love, fun and adventure.  Dennis had owned his own business in Charlotte and had served the building industry for many years.  Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life and his best days were quail and pheasant hunting in the early morning hours or fishing off the coast of SC.
In addition to his loving wife, Dennis is survived by his mother Lena of Rock Hill, his brother Kenneth Hopkins and wife Juli of Katy, TX; his brother David Hopkins and wife Cathy of Spring, TX and his sister Luanne Hawkins and husband William of York, SC.  He was also loved by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.  He always kept them smiling with his funny stories and life experiences. Dennis was the consummate salesperson that always met people with a smile and a handshake.  After graduating from Rock Hill High School, Dennis began his selling career.  He progressed with several companies until landing his job with Ashe Brick Company in Van Wyck, SC.  He found his calling and launch his lifelong profession.  Over the years Dennis’ success led to him opening his own sales company and eventually evolved from just brick to all types of building materials.  He operated his successful company for more than 40 years.  He was assisted and worked side- by-side with Barbara Taylor for most of his career.  Dennis also loved his hunting dogs that worked the fields with him over the years and although he had many breeds over the years he especially loved his many loyal labs!
Lisa would like to especially thank her sister for her steadfast support and the many nurses and personnel that help Dennis in the later stages of his illness.

Curtis was a veteran of the US Army. He was the owner of Borderline Interiors for many years. He loved to hunt and to teach others the skills of hunting.
Born in Rock Hill and raised in Catawba, he was the son of the late Charles Murphy and Ann Ligon Crosby. He was a member of Woodvale Baptist Church. He loved the Lord devotedly and lead many to the Lord.
In addition to his wife, Curtis is survived by his children, Robert Jeffry Polk, Sabrina (Marty) Brazzill. Grandchildren Jay Jay (Melissa) Wommer, Ashley (Chris) Laney, Breeanna Aaron, Curtis Brazzill and Jonathan Gregory. Great Grandchildren Abigale and Savannah Wommer, Harley Pittman, Blue and Colt Laney.
He is also survived by a sister, Jane Weaver; two brothers. Nelson Crosby (Patsy) and Jerry Crosby (Mike). In addition, he is survived by numerous step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his fur baby Bella.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Charles Crosby, Kathryn Cowhig, Margaret Durham, William Crosby, Shirley Stevens, Robert Crosby and Baxter Crosby.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all of his care givers Jennifer Wilson, Marty Braswell, Curtis Braswell and Billy Crosby. And a special thank you to Marty Brazzill, Curtis Brazzill and Bill Crosby.
A service will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 2 PM at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home. Interment will in Rock Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 – 2 pm at the funeral home.

A service will be held at 5:00 pm Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Bass Cauthen Funeral Home and a visitation will follow the service.
A native of Philadelphia, PA he was a son of the late Sydney A Ficco and Dominica Liberi Ficco.  He served his Country and was a proud Marine Veteran.  He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus where he served in many different roles.  He was a graduate of Saint Thomas Moore High School in Philadelphia, PA, but later in his life he became an official “Southern Gentleman” in Rock Hill, SC .  He loved his time in Rock Hill, but his family knew that every story he told started with “When I lived in Philly…” or “When I was in the Marine Corp”.
Surviving are a daughter, Michele Young (Gary); a son, Mike Ficco (Tina); a brother, William Ficco (Cathy); 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle, Marlee, Tara, Sarah, and Michael Jr.; and 5 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica A Ficco (58 years); a brother, Donald R. Ficco; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Ficco.
Memorials may be made to St Anne's Catholic Church Capital Campaign fund.

A native of Rock Hill, SC he was the son of Terry Dean Ballard and Melissa Roberts Ballard.   He was a 2012 graduate of Rock Hill High School.   He was a past employee of Bass Cauthen Funeral Home and Rock Hill Memorial Gardens and 360 Landscaping.  He will be remembered as a man who loved his two children and his family felt blessed to have him as a part of their lives.  He loved to go fishing. He had an infectious personality and a great sense of humor.   He was a beloved father, son, brother, and uncle and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are his daughter, Aubree Olivia Ballard; a son, Jaxton Cole Ballard; a brother, Nick Ballard and his wife, Erica Ballard; two nieces, Ava Dellinger and Arbor Ballard; a paternal grandfather, David Ballard, Sr. a maternal grandmother, Helen Roberts; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Alice Ballard, his maternal grandfather, William Roberts, Sr.

Mr. Kampa, born in Fayetteville, NC, was son to Clarence B. Kampa and Gwen Kampa. Michael attended UTEP majoring in Liberal Arts, with aspirations of becoming a teacher.  Mr. Kampa served in the US Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class, working on nuclear submarines.  He retired from Freiling, USA, and his greatest passion was being outdoors with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Brenda Willis Kampa, son Brian Reid of El Paso, TX, daughter Stacie Nunes of Columbia SC, sisters Sharon Janssen, Carol Lampkins, and Patti Kampa of Lawton, OK, granddaughters Brittanie Marion of TX and Brittani Nunes of SC, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joe Warren Hopkins - August 17, 1928 - March 15, 2021

Obituary Preview: Joe Warren Hopkins, 92 of Rock Hill, SC peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, March 15, 2021.  He lived with his wife of 70 years, Lena Broadwell Hopkins at their home in Rock Hill after moving back from Dallas, Texas following his retirement as Executive Vice President of a national life insurance company in 1991.
In addition to his loving wife Lena, Joe leaves behind a family; his sons, Dennis Hopkins and wife, Lisa of Rock Hill, SC, Kenneth Hopkins and wife, Julie of Houston, TX, David Hopkins and wife, Cathy of Houston, TX; his daughter, LuAnne Hawkins and husband, William of York, SC; grandchildren, Kystern Magnusen and husband, Greg, Blake Hopkins and wife, Stephanie, Alexandria Coffman and husband, Nathan, Rebecca Smith and husband, William, Tyler Hopkins and wife, Amina, Grant Hopkins and wife, Rebecca, Dillon Luse, Dane Hopkins and Nicole Hopkins; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Adalynn, Emma, Ellison and Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe led a lifetime of never meeting a stranger.  He was an Elder in his church at First Presbyterian in Rock Hill.  Joe also oversaw the construction of the family life center at the church.  In honor of his service to the church, the building was later named the Joe Hopkins Hall as it stands today.
After serving in the Navy aboard a destroyer tender, Joe was honorably discharged and immediately returned to his home in Calhoun Falls, SC where he and Lena met.  Joe had a very entrepreneur spirit and owned a gas station at the age of 16.  He consistently worked 2-3 jobs supporting his family and helping to support his parent’s farm.  He moved to several towns progressing through the ranks in the insurance business and ran the office in Rock Hill until his promotion to regional manager in Dallas in 1972.  Joe advanced through two buyouts to ultimately become the Executive Vice President of Sales.  His career allowed he and Lena to travel the world.   At retirement, Joe and Lena moved back to Rock Hill to his parent’s farm and built their retirement dream home.
A celebration of life service will be held graveside at the Grandview Memorial Cemetery on South Cherry Road in Rock Hill on Friday, March 19 at 3:00 pm.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the of his friends who have provided support, food and most importantly love to Joe over the years and especially in the last few years of their life.

Mr. Robinson was a U.S. Navy veteran a residential contractor, one of the founding members of Eastview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a lifetime member, and Past Master of The Corinthian Masonic Lodge # 416, He was proud to serve as a volunteer fireman and Past Fire Chief with the Newport Fire Dept. Mr. Robinson leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his wife Lucille Robinson of the home,
three sons: Eddie Robinson and his wife Lisa, Joel Robinson and his wife Debbie and Jeff Robinson all of Rock Hill, two sisters Helen Pettit of Conway SC and Becky Robinson of Asheville NC. Six grandchildren: Bill Robinson and his wife Caroline, Haley Bryant, and her husband Justin. Chase Robinson and his wife Sally, Brittany Merchant and her husband Tyler, Katherine Munas and her husband Johnny and Heath Robinson, seven great-grandchildren: Will Robinson, McKennon and Ada Bryant, Neelyn and Calloway Merchant and Eberley and Rorie Munas.
Friends are welcome to attend an open hour’s visitation on Thursday March 11, 2021 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at East View Baptist Church gymnasium. A graveside service will be held at 3:30pm at the church cemetery conducted by Rev. Larry Nunn.
