Dick was a member of the Snake Creek Fire Company for 50 years and Fire Chief for over 30 years. He was also member of the Hallstead Lions Club, American Legion Post 357, Hallstead and VFW Post 154, Montrose. He was a member of several bowling leagues and bowled several nights a week for many years.

Survivors include daughter, Dawn (Mark) Walworth of Hallstead, PA; Grandchildren: Eric, Kevin (Megan), Jason and Sarah (Brian) and 6 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Linette Robinson, Montrose, PA. Kenneth William “Zip” Laurie, of Endwell, NY, 73, died Wednesday morning at the Bridgewater Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Binghamton New York after a long battle with cancer. He was born on April 2, 1950, in Binghamton, NY, to the late Kenneth G Laurie and Elizabeth M. (Tiffany) Laurie.

He was a graduate of Mountain View High School, Kingsley, PA. He received an A.B. in Geography from Syracuse University and an M.A. in Geography from Western Illinois University. He was a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography, University of Illinois, specializing in landform evolution in northeastern PA completing his field research in the mountains around Noxen, PA. He was an Assistant Professor of Geography and Geology at Eastern Illinois University and later an Assistant Professor of Geography and Planning at East Carolina University. He joined the Carpenter’s Union in 1967, and then served as the Project Manager for the former Kenneth G. Laurie Inc., a general contracting operation in New York’s Southern Tier working in IBM and numerous government and school facilities. For many years he owned and operated an Environmental Consulting company and later became a Sewage Enforcement Officer for townships throughout Northeastern PA and the Council of Governments in New Milford, PA

Over the years, “Zip” enjoyed family hunting trips to the Poconos and Noxen, PA, as well as a recent hunting trip to Idaho. He enjoyed playing golf and was also an avid supporter of Syracuse University Athletics and was a season ticket holder for men’s football and basketball. Go Cuse! Most of all he was an academic and read everything he could get his hands on. He loved storytelling and having conversations about history, politics and current events. He talked regularly of going back to a university to study a multitude of disciplines.

Alma was employed as a dietary aide and cook for 30 years by the Montrose General Hospital and then the Endless Mountains Health Systems. An avid reader, Alma also enjoyed card and board games, playing bingo, spending time with her family, and traveling. Over the years, she liked baking raspberry, apple, and cherry pies and banana bread which visiting family members often shared with their friends and colleagues to their delight. She was on the membership roll of the First Presbyterian Church in Montrose.

Survivors include her daughter Cheryl Wellman, son David James Blaisure and daughter Karen R. Levi’s parents, Mark and Karen Harris, had the honor of watching him grow into the loving husband and proud father that he became. His brother, Sam, had the pleasure of growing up with him enjoying many hobbies together such as quading, hunting, and a love for guns and knives. He truly was a wonderful son and brother.

Levi married Hannah Smoker on April 27, 2014. They had over 9 wonderful years of marriage. In that 9 years they built a beautiful family together which includes Avah, Harper, Coleson, Easton and Trace. Levi adored his family and loved spending time with them. Whether it was making s’mores around a fire pit or sitting on the couch holding one of his new born babies, Levi will always be remembered for his caring love towards them.

Levi has many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. His brother’s family (Sam and Callin Harris) include Logan and Oliver. Hannah’s sister’s family (Jessie and Jamie Holbert) include Abigail, Benjamin, Jackson, Emily, and Annalise. Levi’s paternal grandparents include Herb and Carolyn Harris and maternal grandmother Pearl Hunsberger. His maternal grandfather, Edward Hunsberger, predeceased him.

Levi graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA with an engineering degree and pursued a career in the field. He worked at Lockheed Martin in Owego NY, as the Manufacturing Project Manager. While Levi will be greatly missed, we find peace and comfort in God’s promise that we will see him again. Levi was a born-again believer, saved at a young age, who loved God and led his family to follow His word. Herbert L. Gaylord, 95, of Springville, PA passed away, Sunday, March 3, 2024. Born November 10, 1928, in Meshoppen, PA, the son of the late Harold and Lillian (Remaley) Gaylord. He was predeceased by Sarah Johnson Gaylord, his wife of 52 years in 2018.

Herbert was employed as an Inspector by the former Bendix Aviation Corp in South Montrose.

He served his country in the United States Army.

Herbert's decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1964 effected the rest of his life. As a longtime member of Springville Baptist, he served in numerous capacities including 25+ years as custodian. For more than 5 years he enjoyed serving with his late wife counseling the 1st and 2nd graders at Elk Lake Elementary School, telling them of Jesus’ love and pointing them to Him. He served on the board of the Susquehanna County Chapter of Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Herbert was the last of his immediate family. His survivors include his son Mark (Marjorie) Gaylord of Springville, PA, his daughter Amy (Gregory) Kapp of Stroudsburg, PA; 7 grandchildren; Mariah (Matt), Micah, Martin, Marianna, Michael, Brian and Jeffrey; great granddaughters; Felicity and Nyla; nieces and nephews. Obituary Preview: Rev. Harold Carr Craige, 85, of Montrose, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his family. Born October 20, 1938, in Meshoppen, PA, the son of Thomas Houston and Ruth Inez Palmer Craige II.

Harold was born in Meshoppen, PA where he grew up with his late brother Thomas Houston Craige III. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and graduated from Elk Lake High School where his mother Ruth taught in a one-room schoolhouse. He left Susquehanna County to attend Pennsylvania State University, graduating in 1960 in Psychology and furthered his education at Boston University, graduating in 1963 with a Masters in Divinity.

Rev. Craige was ordained to the ministry in 1963 and served within the Scranton Wyoming Conference in various churches for several years. It was at the Court Street United Methodist Church in Scranton, Pa where he met his wife of 57 years, Gloria.

Harold and Gloria spent the rest of their married lives taking care of others. They operated several personal care homes for those who needed special care including the Welsh Women's Home on Capouse Avenue, which later was a Personal Care Home, and The Methodist Home on Green Ridge Street, in West Scranton, PA.

Harold, who sometimes would forget to run his lofty ideas past his wife, Gloria, decided to return to Susquehanna County and purchase the former Auburn Rush Poor Asylum in 1988.

They operated their personal care home, Grandmother’s House, there for over 20 years where they continued to raise their family. Harold served in the Unitarian Universalist Church in Brooklyn, PA, for over 17 years after moving to Susquehanna County.

For those that knew Harold, you knew once he set his mind to something, it became his passion. Whether it was reading, puzzles, genealogy, amateur heavy equipment operator or even making homemade goat cheese. He loved sharing his interests with his friends and family. You could be sure he would share his latest findings or factoid when you would call or visit. Harold was a collector of memories - he kept every trinket, greeting card, picture, sermon, and planner. He found great joy in being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Later in life, Harold poured his free time into being the Secretary of Meshoppen High Alumni and a member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He spent many hours at the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library doing genealogy research.

Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Gloria Casparro Craige; four daughters; Carisa (Charles) Keller of Woodbridge, VA, Darinda (Dean) Cesario of West Grove, PA, Miranda (Lawrence) McElroy of Wilmington, DE, and Noelle Craige of Perkasie, PA; six sons, Nathanael Craige of Campbell, NY, Aaron (Requel) Craige of Montrose, PA, Justin (Christal) Craige of Pasadena, MD, Brandon Craige of Newark, DE, Michael Craige, Joshua Craige; sister-in-law, Shirley Craige of Snow Hill, MD; 15 grandchildren, 1 great grand-daughter; along with many nieces, nephew, and cousins. She was a member of Springville United Methodist Church.

Barbara loved her church family and filled many roles there; teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, serving on the Board of Trustees, helping with community breakfasts, and being the Financial Secretary for over 65 years.  She also served with the Republican Women, was a member of the former C-Club, and served as the Springville Township Judge of Elections. Barbara also loved knitting, was an avid reader, and enjoyed working on puzzles. She also enjoyed camping and spending her winters in her Florida “dollhouse.”

Barbara was the last of her immediate family. Her survivors include two daughters, Lisa (Bill) Searles of Westport, MA, and Karen Ricci (Rob Hunter) of Springville, PA; two Sons, Reid A. (Andrea Ganino) Squier of Somerville, MA, and Neil S. (Lori) Squier of Angola, NY; 10 Grandchildren; Alan (Kelly), Andrew (Susan), Ariel (George), Angel (Owen), Nathan, Evan (Bre), Brian (Joanna), Ben (Lindsey), Christopher (Morgan) and Kyra (Mike) , 1 great-grandchild, Callahan, and many nieces and nephews.

F. DeWitt Reynolds went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Allied Hospice, Scranton, PA following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. DeWitt was born in Montrose, PA on September 11, 1936, the son of Clyde and Alice (DeWitt) Reynolds.

DeWitt grew up in New Milford and graduated from Hallstead High School. After high school he served two-years in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he worked for Crowley's in Binghamton, NY. In 1960, he started his long-time career with the Prudential Insurance Company for 36 years. DeWitt obtained several insurance designations throughout his career, CLU, LUTCF and was District Manager in Troy, NY and Binghamton, NY retiring in 1996.

In his younger days he was a member of the Boy Scouts. DeWitt had a love for learning and was always adding to his qualifications. He also had a passion for golf and spent each winter in his home in Sebring, Florida. DeWitt was a member of Tall Pines Golf Club.

DeWitt's family includes his beloved wife of 35 years, Joanne Newton Reynolds. His children are his daughter, Maribeth (John) Low of Wilmington, DE; two sons, Dr. David D. (Katherine) Reynolds of Honesdale, PA, and Daniel L. (Lisa) Reynolds of Ulster, PA; step-daughter, Debbie Jo (Steven Potter) Fulmer of Towanda, PA; step-son, Daniel S. (Chantel) Fulmer of Sugar Run, PA; 6 grandchildren; Ethan, Evan, Bethany (Cody), Gustin, India and Daniel; 7 step-grandchildren; Joshua (Ashlee), Danielle (Nick), Megan (Justin), Jordan (Danielle), Justin (Erica), Hunter and Samuel; 4 step-great grandsons; sister, Mary Alice Daniels of Rotonda West, FL; brother, William (Martha) Reynolds of Kirklwood, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

Glendora came to know Jesus as her personal Savior at the age of 12. After graduating from Rush High School in 1950, she graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY in 1953. She married the love of her life, Reverend Bernard A. Graham on June 26, 1954. Reverend Graham went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2011.

The Lord blessed Glendora and Bernard with 3 children: David Graham (Birchardville, PA), Doreen Bowles (Newfield, NY), and Wendy Graham-Cranmer (Little Meadows, PA); 8 grandchildren: Brendon Graham (Mary), Molly Graham (Nick), Nathan Bowles (Jamie), Natalie Vorhis (Edward), Jamie Sechrist (Ricardo), Alexander, Whitney, and Gabrielle Cranmer; and 9 Great-Grandchildren: David and Isaiah Graham, Brandon and Brian Graham, Clara Graham, Lily and Isabella Vorhis, Rowan Bowles and MacKenzie Brown. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Donna Johnson and brother, Denny (Janis) Bunnell.

She is predeceased by her grandson, Brian Graham and her sister, Shirley Bennett.

Glendora answered the call of the Lord with her husband pastoring two churches in the Elk Lake and East Bridgewater Communities. There she taught Sunday School, Junior Church, and was always mentoring others. She also loved to cook huge meals, entertain guests at her home and watching “her” birds while sitting on the patio.

One of her favorite verses from Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy steps.” With her faith in Jesus, every moment of joy in her life was telling and leading others to him.

Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother has completed her assignment here on earth and is now rejoicing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior. Clifford fulfilled the role of a father and grandfather figure in her families’ lives very well. Her husband, Burleigh M. Kelley, predeceased her in 2004.

A graduate of Meshoppen High School, Marlene worked at Mulligans and cleaned for several businesses and homes. However, her main focus was her family and their home.

She was an active member of Retta Community Church; where she was a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of the Sunday School, sang in the choir, and loved playing the piano. She also served on many positions on the church board.

Marlene enjoyed working for the former Watson Dayton’s Auction Service. She had a passion for antiques and maintained a booth for almost 20 years at the Apple Wagon Antique Mall. She also enjoyed baking, crocheting, and entering her garden flowers in the Wyoming County Fair.

Marlene is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Dale) Severcool and Jenice (Rowland Denny) Tewksbury of Carlisle, PA, and sons Paul M. Kelley of Montrose, PA, and Aric E. (Molly) Kelley of Mansfield CT; grandchildren: Jeremy, Sheena, Addie, Amanda, Bryant, Brandon, Carter, Grace, Evelyn, Seamus, and Meghan; great-grandchildren: Lily, Lila, Camden, Layla and Jacoby; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She enjoyed playing cards, puzzle books, Pennsylvania Polka, and watching the traffic, birds, wild life and nature from her chair in the kitchen.

She is predeceased by her husband, Christopher, son William, and grandchildren Elizabeth and Christopher Haefner. She is survived by her son Dennis Coleman, daughter and son-in-law MaryAnn and Robert Haefner, grandchildren Joseph and Michael; and grandaughter and husband Megan and Ben Naylor and great grandchildren Kimberlyn and Avian; and a sister-in-law Eleanor Coleman, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to the family, several caregivers and friends held a special spot in her heart: Nancy Alderson, Kylee Eckert, Sister Betty Brown and Kathy Gage. The family would like to thank Dr. Khalil at EMHS, Interim HealthCare staff: Sarah, Lynne, and Yvette for years of care, the entire staff at Meadowview Nursing Home for these past few months of care and the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
