Gertrude Eleanor Metz embraced death on Saturday, March 9, 2024. She was 97 years "young" and resided in Cheektowaga, New York. Her husband and love of her life, Albert Metz, preceded her in death in 1986. Gertrude leaves behind her five children, Christine (Paul) Kowalewski, Gerianne (Robert) Dobmeier, Gregory (Mary) Metz, Barbara (Daniel) Schmitt, and Janice (Daniel) Schwartzott, as well as 13 grandchildren and 23 Great-Grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Joan Reichert.

Gertrude was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother who lived her 97 years filled with love and laughter. Her childhood stories told the beginnings of the seeds planted by her parents, Eleanor and Maxwell Teichert, of faith, love, and joy she learned and spread to her family, as well as the many lives she touched throughout her life journey. Gertrude enjoyed sewing, cooking, and crafts and was well-known for her excellent skills, always using them for the good of others. Her kind, compassionate, and light-hearted spirit touched the lives of many.

Richard G. Balbuzoski Sr. - June 21, 1942 - December 26, 2023

Departed: 12/26/2023 (Cheektowaga)
Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Balbuzoski, affectionately known as Dick, on December 26th, 2023. Born on June 21st, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, Richard’s life was one marked by unwavering dedication, love, and an adventurous spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Richard leaves behind a legacy of love as a devoted husband to Frances (nee Lis) for over 60 remarkable years. He was a steadfast presence for his children, Cindy (Bob), Debbie (Joe), Lynda (Mark), Rick, and John (Raven). His legacy continues to shine through his grandchildren, Melissa (Patrick), Rebecca (Brandon), Christopher (Lauren), Casey (Brandon), Sarah, Katie (Matt), Jake, and Jonathan, and his beloved great-grandchild, Brooklyn.
Richard’s work with the Buffalo Sewer Authority for three decades was not just a job, but a source of great stories and pride. Richard was an entrepreneur - he owned his own business for over 40 years. His love for vehicles and adventure was evident through his collection over the years, from Lincolns to the red Volkswagen bug, many boats, RVs, and a motorcycle. He had cherished times spent at the Cleveland Hill Volunteer Fire Department and at the George F Lamm American Legion Post 622. As a member of the Winnebago club, Richard and Frances' travels in their adored RV were not just journeys, but chapters in a story of love and adventure.
Richard was an outdoorsman at heart; he loved nature through fishing, boating, and camping; the outdoors were his playground. His cottage at Rushford Lake was a place of happiness and family memories. Many summers were spent there with loved ones on his treasured pontoon boat. Richard had a passion for woodworking, carving many beautiful creations that will be cherished forever.
Those wishing to honor his memory are invited to Barron-Miller Funeral Home located at 3025 William St, Cheektowaga, NY 14227 for visitations on Friday, December 29th, 2023 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Infant of Prague Parish, 921 Cleveland Dr, Cheektowaga on Saturday December 30th at 10am. Immediately following the service, there will be a ceremony at Saint Stanislaus Roman Catholic Cemetery, 700 Pine Ridge Rd Cheektowaga. There will be no reception to follow. Per the family wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
As we say farewell to Richard, our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, we find comfort in knowing that his strength, love, and memories will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Richard, your presence will be profoundly missed, but your spirit will forever be cherished.

Should an obituary be crafted in a specific writing style?

While obituaries generally follow a factual and respectful tone, the writing style can vary. Some families prefer a formal style, while others may choose a more personal and anecdotal approach that reflects the personality of the deceased.

What should be done if there's a mistake in an obituary?

If an error is discovered, contact the publication as soon as possible to correct the online version and determine the procedure for issuing errata or a correction in the next available print edition if necessary.

Can an obituary be used to ask for donations to a specific cause?

Yes, it is common for obituaries to suggest memorial donations to a specific cause or charity in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased's legacy and support a valued organization.

How can an obituary serve as an important record for future generations?

An obituary serves as a historical record, documenting the person's life, family connections, and accomplishments. It can be an invaluable source of information for genealogists and family historians in the future.

Is it necessary to have a funeral service to publish an obituary?

No, a funeral service is not required to publish an obituary. Obituaries can be published regardless of the type of memorial arrangements made, including if the family opts for a private service or no service at all.
