Obituary Preview: Wayne Fisher, 89, of Marshall, passed away March 28, 2024, at Clinton Gardens in Clinton. Born December 14, 1934, in Putnam County, he was the son of Daniel Warren Fisher and Floy Richards Fisher. He married Mary Jo Hinshaw on October 10, 1959; she survives.
Wayne was a 1955 graduate of Marshall High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Marshall Baptist Church. Wayne retired from Newport Army Ammunition Plant after 37 years. He then worked for Parke Seeds in Marshall.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Fisher of Marshall; 2 sons, Dallas Wayne Fisher (Sherry) of Brazil, Indiana, Duane Lee Fisher (Trish) of Gibson City, Illinois; 2 granddaughters, Makayla Rose Fisher of Aurora, Colorado, and Delanie Kendall Fisher of Gibson City, Illinois. Also surviving is a sister, Audrey Market of Rockville, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, John, Mike, and Jerry Fisher; 3 sisters, Jean Thompson, Louise Shoaf, and Phyllis Cooper; half-brother, George Fisher and half-sister, Lucille Huggard.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, 111 East High Street, Rockville, with Reverend Bill Dawson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery east of Marshall.
Wayne’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Union Hospital, Hospice of the Wabash Valley and Clinton Gardens.

She was born March 9, 1976, in Clinton, Indiana, the daughter of Richard Shorter and Denise Kelley-Jones. Terese married Tom Jones on January 12, 2002. They renewed their vows on January 12, 2019.
She was a 1994 graduate of Rockville High School, Terese graduated from Purdue with a degree in Special Education (specifically for Extremely Handicapped EH). She began teaching in and around Terre Haute, Indiana working with special needs children. While still teaching, she obtained her master’s degree in education from Indiana State. She has worked tirelessly to help improve the lives of her students so they may lead meaningful and productive lives in society despite their challenges. Terese taught Special Education at Farrington Grove Elementary School in the Vigo County School Corporation. She retired in 2020.
Terese is survived by her husband Tom Jones of Rosedale; 2 sons, Erin Jones of Terre Haute, and Chance Jones (Mya) of Carbon; daughter, Britany Ann Jones of Defiance, Ohio; father, Richard Shorter (Kim) of Rockville; and mother, Denise Kelley-Jones (Paul) of Pendleton, Indiana. Also surviving are her brother, Dean Shorter of West Terre Haute; grandmothers, Mary A. Runyan of Blanford, and Alene Jones of Pendleton; and nephew, Liam Shorter of West Terre Haute.
Terese is preceded in death by grandfathers, William R. Shorter, and Jack Jones, and grandparents, Mike and Rita Kelley.
Funeral Services will be on Monday, April 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, 111 East High Street, Rockville, Indiana. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in New Discovery Cemetery.

Obituary Preview: Elwyn “Kelly” Price, 86, of Rockville, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. Born November 30, 1937, in Science Hill, Kentucky, he was the son of Kelly Elton Price and Effie Jewell Measel Price.
Kelly graduated from Rockville High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army in the 370th Engineers Company. He retired from a long career in Sales of Agriculture Equipment and Real Estate. He was a 50-year member of Parke Lodge #8 F&AM in Rockville, Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute and Scottish Rite in Terre Haute.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 40+ years, Edith “Edy” Jean Johnson Price. She passed away October 15, 2022. He is also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pat Shew.
Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Price of Lafayette, Indiana; 3 sons, Jim Price of Lafayette, Tim Price of Rockville, and Jeremy Price (Paula) of Rockville. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Jake Podgurski (Nikki), Ashlee Zink (Justin), Levi Price (Tori), Jonathan Handley, Jacob Handley, Jared Handley (Sierra), Kayleb Price, Joah Handley, Evan Price, and Kyle Price; and several great-grandchildren. Kelly is also survived by 1 brother, Edward Price (Liz); 2 sisters, Phyllis Tomaw and Melessia Eldridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been chosen with no services at this time. Inurnment will be in Memory Garden Cemetery at a later date.

She is survived by two daughters, Violet Baker (Jesse) of Indianapolis, and Joan Widdifield (William) of Indianapolis; 8 grandchildren, Craig Staggs (Astrid), Matthew Baker (Crystal), Jesseica Baker, Laura Sollars (Naterra), Victoria Logan (Dale), Christina Gullett (Arie), Constance Baker (Brad), and Brittany Baker (Shannon); 16 Great-grandchildren; and 3 Great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Bill Blackburn (Sharon); 5 sisters, Pat Gossett, Carol Sexton, Betty Yocum (Mike), Janet Boatman (Kenny), and Mary Salsbury; and sister-in-law, Freda Blackburn.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Owen Staggs; daughter, Judith Ann Staggs; 4 brothers, Ernie Blackburn, Cecil “Zeke” Blackburn, Jim Blackburn (Loretta), and Roy Blackburn; sister, Marilynn Blackburn; and 3 brothers-in-law, Alvin Gossett, Kenny Sexton, and Edward Salsbury.

Dianne is survived by her husband Gary Wayne Sowers. They were married on August 21, 1965, in Pleasant Hill, California. She is also survived by 2 children, Gary Wayne Sowers II (Melinda) of Coatesville and Heidi Sowers House, of Coatesville; 2 brothers Charles Edward Sutton of Benton, Tennessee and Gregory James Sutton of Hillsdale, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Dianne was a 1965 graduate of College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, California. She was a member of Roachdale Christian Church, Women’s Christian Fellowship and volunteered at Gleaners Food Bank in Bainbridge. Dianne was an avid homemaker. She loved going to church and attending events at the church. She also loved working on the farm with her husband and gardening.
Dianne is preceded in death by her parents and beloved aunts and uncles.

James graduated from Rosedale High School in 1966. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army and 18 years in the Army National Guard both with the Rockville and Brazil units. He was a member of Rockville American Legion Post #48.
He worked several years for the Parke County Highway Department and a short time for Rahn Construction. He also worked at Lee’s Grocery in Rockville. James enjoyed fishing with Tommy Truax.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Evans of Rockville; a daughter Madeline Evans of Lodi; and 2 granddaughters, Kerstyn Edington of Tangier, and Crystal Cardwell of Lodi. Also surviving are a brother, Harold “Harry” Evans of Mecca; 2 sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Coleman of Greene Township, and S. Jane Seay of Rockville; several nieces, and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Joseph “Sonny” Evans.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 21, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, 111 E. High Street, Rockville. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m.

Obituary Preview: Michael E. Young, 76, of Rockville, passed away December 8, 2023, at his residence. Born August 4, 1947, in Mecca, Indiana, he was the son of Archie and Leona Birch Young. He married Pat A. Cornwell, who survives him, on October 1, 1966, in Terre Haute.
Mike graduated from Rockville High School in 1965 and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 1972. He was the Chief Deputy for the Parke County Sheriff’s Department from 1969 to 1977 and served as a Parke County Commissioner from 1984 to 1988. Mike was a Shift Captain at Newport Chemical Depot for 34 years, retiring in 2008.
Mike was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockville. He was the Charter President of the Parke-Vermillion F.O.P. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and former member of Parke Lodge #8, F&AM, and Scottish Rite.
Mike was known for his fabulous wit. He had a great love for cars, racing, and motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Young of Rockville; 3 children, Michael Todd Young (Paula) of Clinton, Cammila J. Cody (Jim) of Rocky Fork, and James Matthew Young (Sue) of Terre Haute; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Richard Young (Peggy) of Greenfield, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Alex Young; and sister, Joetta Bennett.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville, with Father Joby Puthussery officiating.

James graduated from Alamo High School in 1949. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a heavy equipment operator. James was a lifetime member of Paul Taylor VFW Post #1752 and attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He retired from the Town of Rockville in 1991. He worked full time and farmed. After retiring he painted houses and barns in the Alamo area. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
James is survived by 2 sons, Keith Fischer (Diane) of Rockville, Henry Fischer of Marshall; 4 daughters, Laura Fischer of Rockville, Ruth Fischer of Rockville, Freda (Kirk) Overmyer of Bloomingdale, and Rita Fischer (John Eldridge) of Center Point; 8 grandchildren, Andrea Tislow (Charlie) of Rockville, Alan Doan (Christine) of Rosedale, Brian Doan (Laura) of Waynetown, April Mason of Marshall, Robin Tuberosa of South Carolina, Cree Overmyer of Bloomingdale, and JW Overmyer of Bloomingdale.
Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sister, Martha Griggs of Crawfordsville; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Fischer of Alamo, and Carolyn Fischer of Crawfordsville; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; daughter-in-law, Nancy Fischer; 3 brothers, Paul, John, and Dale Fischer; sister, Alice Fischer, sister-in-law, Pat Fischer; and brother-in-law Virgil Griggs.

Phillip graduated from Turkey Run High School in 1972. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Parke Lodge #8, F&AM in Rockville, and previously served on the Marshall Volunteer Fire Department.
Phillip was a machinist, owning and operating Las Tech in Marshall for several years. He also previously worked as a Reserve Deputy for the Parke County Sheriff’s Department and the Town of Montezuma.
He is survived by his wife, Melody Wallace of Rockville; 4 children, Shaundelorah Wallace (Chelsea) of Marshall, Hope Wadsworth (Rob) of Florida, Travis Wallace (Jessica) of Montezuma, and Valarie Wallace of Rockville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Frank, and Dick Wallace; and 2 sisters, Helen Swaim and Pat Delp.

Smith and Catherine L. Hall Smith. Eleanor married Harold Asbury on April 2, 1950, in Coloma, Indiana. Harold died September 13, 2003.
Eleanor was a 1941 graduate of Montezuma High School. She was a member and formerly Recording Clerk of the Marshall Federated Church, member of the Coloma Friends Meeting, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Eleanor and her sisters answered the call for war workers during WWII, at this time she worked as a payroll clerk for Detroit Diesel Allisons in Indianapolis. Eleanor was an auction clerk for 49 years and co-owner and agent of the former Asbury Real Estate of Marshall.
She is survived by her son, Charles Asbury; daughter, Susan Asbury Holley; and daughter-in-law, Kimberly L. Asbury, all of Marshall; 4 grandchildren, Michael Wray Woody (Nikki) of Bloomingdale, Eleanor V. Holley of Chicago, Rachel A. Asbury (Josh Bundy) of Marshall, and Samuel L. Asbury of Marshall. Also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren and a sister, Doris Smith Crockett of Garland, Texas.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, John L. Asbury; 2 brothers, Howard Dee Smith, and Donald L. Smith; and 2 sisters, Esther Smith Kerns and Mary Louise Smith Allee.

Bishop of Rockville, and Michael “Boog” Thomas of Rockville. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Mickey Thomas (Mary) of Florida, Jeff Thomas (Dawn) of Montezuma, Richie Thomas of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents.

Don was a 1963 graduate of Turkey Run High School. He was a member of I.U.O.E. #841 and retired as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He owned and operated Wirth’s Caramel Corn from 1979 to 2019, when his grandson took over the business.
Don was a member of Kingman Lodge #314 F&AM. He enjoyed driving around Parke County, bird watching, following local sports, and being spoiled by his grandchildren.
Don is survived by 2 daughters, Darla Wirth of Bloomingdale, and Shelli Toycen (Nate) of Bloomingdale; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Connie Taylor of Rockville. He is also survived by his sister, Darlene Flaurr (John) of Clinton, and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma; son, Roger D. Wirth; 2 sisters, Deborah Riley, and Delores Norman; and 3 brothers, Larry, Morris, and Dennis Wirth.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, homemaker, and crafter. Waneta worked alongside her husband in the family business for many years. She also served in her church, Rockville First Baptist Church, in a variety of teaching, missions, and ministry areas and served in her community. She actively supported Samaritan's Purse, the Parke-Vermillion Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and cancer patients in hospitals with her homemade quilts, hats, lap robes and other handmade items donated to these organizations.
She lived the last four years in the Franklin, TN area.
Waneta was born in Adams Township (Parke County) to David and Maude (Collings) Martin on September 13, 1931. She married Wilbur “Bill” Overpeck on July 2, 1950.
Waneta is survived by two sisters, Rosetta Stover of Noblesville, IN and Judy Lafary, of Riverton, IL. She is survived by four children; Cindy Moore of Franklin, TN, Ashley (Melanie) of Rockville, IN, Doug (Regina) of Queen Creek, AZ, and Gary (Claudia) of Clinton, IN, additionally 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She loved each one and was thrilled to spend time with all of them! Waneta also had a large extended family and many dear friends and church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, a son, Randall Overpeck, a brother; Merle Martin, and three sisters, Lela Green, Lorene Wirth, and Mary Louise Churchill.
Services will be on Saturday, July 29,2023 at Rockville First Baptist Church, 1250 US Hwy 41 in Rockville, IN. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM with a memorial service, beginning at 2 PM to celebrate this special woman who meant so much to so many.

Services will be provided at Marshall Federated Church by the staff of Barnes and Rice Funeral Home, with visitation from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, and the funeral at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, pastors Brian Holt and John Cornell presiding. A graveside ceremony officiated by Olivia Kessinger will immediately follow the funeral at Poplar Grove Cemetery.
Brother Don was born at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to the late Donald Sr. and Mary Coons Perry on April 21, 1950. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Patty Turner Perry; three daughters: Charity (Jasen) DeHority, Anna (Andy) Tome and Bethany (Andy) Bruner; eight grandchildren: Devon (Kayla), Natalie, and Audrey Tome, Josiah, Mary, and Nathan Solomon, and Benjamin and Samuel Bruner; and four sisters: Mary Walton, Janet Henry, Cindy Simpson and Toni Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Bill Perry and Connie Selig.
Brother Don served the Lord as a pastor for over over 40 years, leading many souls to saving faith in Jesus Christ after himself being saved at the age of 19 in 1969. He was ordained by Bible Baptist Church in Owen County in 1971 and pastored Mount Hebron Church in Cloverdale for 12 years beginning in 1974. The bulk of Brother Don's ministry was spent leading Marshall Federated Church for 31 years until his retirement in 2017. He also preached part-time at Number 11 Mission Church and Parkeville Christian Church, and served as chaplain to Union Hospital Clinton, Union Hospital Terre Haute, the Parke County Jail and the Rockville Correctional Facility.
Brother Don's joyful preaching mixed folksy anecdotes and aphorisms with deep theological knowledge and wisdom. He led music with his guitar in church, area nursing homes, and Christmastime visits to elementary schools. He baptized hundreds of people, and officiated hundreds of weddings and funerals during his career.
Brother Don was named Parke County Man of the Year in 2013. Union Hospital Clinton named its chapel after him in 2019 in recognition of his years of service as chaplain.
During his years as a full-time pastor, Brother Don at times held other jobs to support his family, most notably for Allison Transmission. He also furthered his education as an adult, receiving an associate degree from IUPUI, a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and a master’s degree from Moody Bible Institute.
During his life, Brother Don was known to greet people with a hug and the question "Have I told you lately that I love you?" In nearly every instance, the answer was yes.

Marylin was a true Parke County Socialite. She dearly loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, painting, and singing karaoke.
She is survived by her son Roger L. Allen of Marshall; 3 grandsons, Bradley Cole Allen (Kate) of Bloomingdale, Jason Roberts of Rockville, and Joseph Roberts (Laura) of Marshall. Also surviving are 4 great-grandchildren: Everett James Allen and Charlotte Jean Allen of Bloomingdale; and Barrett Roberts and Eli Roberts of Marshall.
