Molly Weiss - December 05, 1923 - April 19, 2024

Departed: 04/19/2024 (Midwest City)
Obituary Preview: Our mother, Molly Grace Weiss, left her earthly bounds on Friday, April 19, 2024. She was surrounded by her four children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren when God called her home. Molly was 100 glorious years old at her passing. She was born on December 5, 1923, in Wilburton, Oklahoma. Molly was the eighth and last child born to George Pleasant and Mary Magdeline Wood. She will be reunited in heaven with her parents, her brother, George and sisters, Lena, Lottie, Nell, Loyce, Mary, Louise, her husband, Frank Anthony Weiss and their daughter, Amy.
Molly was survived by her children, Frank, Sara, George and David, who have been commissioned by the Lord to carry on Mom’s legacy of love and care for others. Her door was always open with a plate of food at the kitchen table and a compassionate ear for the downtrodden and the lonely amongst us. Molly’s sole devotion was her family and, if you weren’t blood, you soon became a member of her clan.
Molly was a homemaker and fulltime mother until her children all left the nest. During WWII, she helped at Tinker Airforce Base repairing planes until someone realized her secretarial skills and moved her into the office. Mom was what she called a “clothes horse.” She loved beautiful clothes and she and her sisters would enjoy dressing to the “nines” and posing for pictures with each other. In her younger years, she and her sisters owned a dress shop named Seven Sister in Wilburton.
Red was Mom’s favorite color and how appropriate that was for she believed in the precious saving blood of Jesus. She loved cardinals because of their bright red plume and the reminder of what her Lord had done on the cross of Calvary. Her home was filled with images of cardinals, on the walls, plates, coffee cups and fuzzy blankets.
Mom lived her final years in the home of our youngest brother, David and his wife, Leslie, who opened their home to the constant stream of visits from friends and family. Our family will always have an overwhelming debt of gratitude for the love and care they showed our mom.
She cherished and was cherished by her sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren along with so many nieces and nephews.
During the past four years, Mom was cared for by the loving friends she made with Frontier Hospice Care. Thank you for what you meant to her and the tender love you expressed.
It is easy to say she touched the lives of more than can be counted and was loved by all. Mom left us all with a powerful witness of God’s grace and love and she will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home at 1820 S. Douglas Blvd. in Midwest City on Friday, April 26 at 5:00 with a viewing to follow. Her body will be laid to rest at Center Point Baptist Church and Cemetery in Wilburton, 2245 NE 1000th Ave., Wilburton, Oklahoma, on Saturday, April 27 at 1:00.

Andrew "Andy" Lawrence Stephenson - June 08, 1936 - April 17, 2024

Departed: 04/17/2024 (Midwest City)
Obituary Preview: Andrew “Andy” Lawrence Stephenson, 87, of Midwest City, Oklahoma died April 17.
His journey to be with the Lord was peaceful after suffering the stages of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for many years.
Andy knew no stranger. The 5-foot-5 Cardin, Oklahoma native was a frank man. To a fault, he was himself, an authenticity many hope to have.
This characteristic only got Andy in trouble occasionally. To his benefit, he had a loving wife who kept him in line when his frankness went a little too far. Andy married Beatrice “Bea” Mildred Coddington of Binger, Oklahoma in 1961. When Bea would say “Andrew,” he would listen. She made him a better man.
Andy, a U.S. Air Force veteran, served his country from April 1956 to April 1960. The airman first-class was forever proud to be an American. In November 1958, Andy was honored with the Air Force’s Outstanding Service Unit Award.
After being discharged, Andy worked as a civilian on Tinker Air Force Base in the commissary. He would later work other civilian roles on base, completing a 34-year career.
Those who knew him, knew Andy could not sit still for long.
He traveled Oklahoma’s roads delivering propane for Lundy’s Propane Gas Co. for more than 10 years. He was a walking Oklahoma map. Andy loved driving and he loved the state of Oklahoma.
But not as much as he loved Hostess Snoballs. Andy loved all things sweet, but Snoballs were on another hierarchy of goodness.
In fact, to Andy, the only thing better than having a Snoball would be spending time with his family. Family was everything. And there was not one thing he wouldn’t do for them.
His favorite thing to tell them was “I love you” – something he hopes they will always remember.
Andy is survived by his wife, Bea, and their three children Dennis Stephenson; Kathy Humphrey; son-in-law Ralph Humphrey; Darren Stephenson and daughter-in-law Mandy Stephenson. He is also survived by his three grandchildren Tayler Humphrey, Haley Jourdan and husband Cameron Jourdan; and Kaeden Stephenson.
Andy is survived by four of his siblings and their spouses: Lillie Peach; Walter and wife, Dixie Stephenson; Jessie and husband Steve Poos; Eva Gardner; sister-in-law Cheryl Stephenson; and sister-in-law Thomye Stephenson.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ethel Stephenson, six sisters: Norma Raylene Barrow; Rosa Lea Delmar; Beatrice Murphy; Alice Graham; Katherine DuBois and Richard “Richie” Timmer, and three brothers: Franklin Stephenson; Robert J. Stephenson; and Billy Stephenson.
Andy’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. April 22 at Barnes & Friederich Funeral Home, 1820 S Douglas Boulevard in Midwest City. Family and friends are invited to attend to share their respects and celebrate Andy’s life.

It was at that time she became a dedicated Christian, studying the Bible, worshipping, and witnessing about her love for the Lord. Helen was very devoted to her faith and took her 5 Children in tow to Church as much as possible, even taking her sister’s daughters with her many times as she could manage. Helen, being a strong, take-charge person, decided to become a nurse to generate income her large family needed, even though the time required to study and obtain her license would sacrifice precious time away from her children. She graduated from Mercy Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1962 and began a 40+ year career with many of those years spent as a nurse specialist in the Intensive Care Unit. After Bonnell was tragically killed in an auto accident, the family of 7 now became 6. But Helen, even though working as a nurse full time, managed to not only be the breadwinner, she was somehow able to maintain all the obligations and duties of a loving Mother, raising her 5 children successfully. In 1976, Helen met and married Homer Mills, and lived happily for many years. Helen moved to Florida after Homers Death to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Mike. Her intention was to live there until her death, however illness took over, and as she required more help, she moved back to Oklahoma and Harrah Nursing Center, where she passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Helen’s favorite past-times were to study the King James, quote scriptures, crocheting, work crossword puzzles, and drink diet-coke. Helen is survived by 5 children and spouses, Loretta Louise Batten, William Simon Wolf and wife Deborah, Michael Wolf and wife Brenda, Charlotte Ann Haddox and husband Michael, and Guymond Wolf. She is survived by 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces and their husbands, Glenda Jean Mansell, husband Leon, and Virginia Wright, and husband Cecil. Also leaving loving memories behind for many other relatives who are important to her but are too many to name.
Helen did not want sadness at her passing, and in her own handwriting, let us be assured she is in Heaven with her Heavenly Father and all those loved ones who have passed before her.
Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm. Services will be April 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home, Midwest City, Oklahoma. Interment at Sunnylane Cemetery, Del City, Oklahoma.

How does an obituary differ from a death notice?

An obituary usually contains a detailed biography and is written by a journalist or family member, while a death notice is a brief announcement of the death, often placed in newspapers by the family and is more straightforward and factual.

What are the key elements to include in an obituary?

An obituary should include the full name of the deceased, age, date of birth and death, a brief overview of their personal life, career, and accomplishments, survivors and predeceased family members' names, and service details such as the time and location of the funeral.

Is it necessary to state the cause of death in an obituary?

It is not mandatory to state the cause of death. The decision to include this information is a personal one and may be influenced by the family’s wishes, cultural norms, or the individual's prominence.

Who typically writes an obituary?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, funeral home staff, or journalists. It often depends on the medium through which the obituary will be published and the family's preferences.

Are obituaries free to publish?

Obituaries often incur a cost, especially when published in traditional newspapers, and the price can vary depending on length and the specific publication. Online memorials and certain community papers may offer free or more affordable options.

Can you include photographs with an obituary?

Yes, photographs are commonly included with obituaries, and they can help readers to connect more personally with the deceased. Newspapers and online platforms may have specific guidelines for photos.

What tone is appropriate for an obituary?

The tone of an obituary should be professional and empathetic. It’s meant to honor the deceased while providing essential details to the public in a respectful manner.

How long after a death is an obituary published?

An obituary is usually published within a few days after death to inform the community of the passing and the details of any services. Timeliness is important, especially for informing those who may wish to attend memorial services.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or website?

To submit an obituary, contact the newspaper or website to find out their process, which can usually be done by phone, email, or through their online submission form. Be prepared to provide the text of the obituary and any photographs, as well as payment if required.

Can an obituary be edited after publication?

Once published, editing an obituary can be difficult, especially in print. Some online platforms may allow for edits. It is best to ensure the obituary is accurate before submission to avoid the need for corrections.

Is it appropriate to mention a charity for donations in lieu of flowers?

Yes, it is common to suggest a charity for donations in the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased’s memory and support causes they cared about.

Can a family choose not to publish an obituary?

Yes, publishing an obituary is a personal choice and not a legal requirement. Some families may prefer to keep the matter private or share the news through other means.

How can you ensure an obituary honors a person's memory effectively?

To honor a person's memory effectively in an obituary, focus on accurately and thoughtfully recounting their life's significant aspects, personality, and the impact they had on others, using anecdotes and heartfelt sentiment where appropriate.

What if the deceased had a complicated or difficult life, how should it be addressed in the obituary?

If the deceased had a complex life, it is up to the family to decide what to include. Emphasizing positive aspects, such as overcoming challenges or personal growth, can be a respectful approach. It’s important to maintain a tone of dignity and respect.

How do online obituaries differ from print?

Online obituaries can be longer, may include more photos or videos, and are easily shared on social media. They also have the potential to reach a wider audience and can be a place for friends and family to share memories through interactive features like comment sections.

What cultural considerations should be taken into account when writing an obituary?

Cultural considerations may influence how an obituary is written, including the detail around family relations, achievements, and service information. Respecting religious or cultural customs and using appropriate language for the audience is essential.

How can someone without writing experience craft a good obituary?

Someone without writing experience can craft a good obituary by using templates or guides, focusing on clarity and simplicity, and potentially seeking the help of friends, family, or professionals for editing and feedback.

What should I do if I find a mistake in an obituary after publication?

If a mistake is found post-publication, contact the newspaper or website immediately to inquire about their correction policy. Corrections are more feasible with online publications.

Can obituaries be pre-written?

Yes, many people choose to pre-write their obituaries, or have them pre-written by a family member, to ensure their life is captured according to their wishes, and to alleviate the burden on loved ones during a difficult time.

Is there a standard length for an obituary?

There is no standard length for an obituary; it should be long enough to appropriately honor the individual and include necessary information but concise enough to be accessible to readers and fit publication constraints.

How do privacy concerns affect the writing and publication of an obituary?

Privacy concerns can impact the information shared in an obituary. Sensitivity should be used when discussing details of the deceased's life, and it is important to consider the feelings and privacy of surviving family members.
