He was the 4th of 5 children and grew up around Strool, SD. He briefly attended high school in Sorum, SD before its closure. Fritz enlisted in the US Navy 3 days before his 18th birthday in 1945. He started active duty just over a month later, May 5th, 1945, and served as a welder, repairing ships in the Philippines. After his service in the Navy, Fritz worked a variety of jobs before entering the oilfield. Fritz met the love of his life, Ruby Grace Pederson, of Reader, ND and they were married on September 2nd, 1952, in Lemmon, SD. Like so many in the oilfield, they resided in numerous places moving with the jobs to be had. He also enjoyed working on old cars, and always seemed to have many people (young and old) looking to him for advice and help with their vehicles. Allan Wang - October 28, 1931 - January 22, 2022

Departed: 01/22/2022 (Baker)
Obituary Preview: Interment with military honors and graveside service for Allan Wang, 90, of Baker will be later this summer at St. John’s Cemetery. Dad (Allan) passed away peacefully in his recliner on the evening of January 22, 2022, at 90 years of age. We sincerely thank the staffs at Superior Care and the FMC nursing home for keeping him safe and comfortable these last four years following his hip injury. Born October 28, 1931, he grew up during the Great Depression and WWII. He was the youngest of six siblings (Vic, Alma, Edna, Lee Roy “Doc,” and Dulane “Pete”) who grew up south of Ollie, Montana in the original homestead shack. He attended school in Ollie, until the high school closed his sophomore year, and graduated from Baker High School. He loved playing basketball and baseball, including on Ollie’s community baseball team that travelled to other area towns to play. Allan attended MSU and some graduate school at SDSU. He proudly served in the US Army from 1953-1956. Allan was an MSU extension agent in Thompson Falls, Montana, where he met Ruth Harlow who was his secretary – highly qualified and accomplished in her own right. They married in 1958, moved to Ollie, and started a life-long partnership in farming, ranching, and other ventures that lasted until Mom’s death in May of 2016. They were excellent stockmen and had great compassion for the land and for animals.I (Dean) was born in 1967. Moving from Ollie to Baker in 1969, they built and ran the pellet mill, “Wang Feeds,” for 20 years. Discussing the virtues of cottonseed cake was one of Dad’s favorite topics. They lived at the same address their entire lives, finally building a garage in recent years. They weren’t much on hunting or recreating but they took me skiing, hunting, and fishing a few times, and never missed one of my activities or sporting events. To their credit, they never once asked me, “What the hell are you thinking?!” when I walked away from a football scholarship to rodeo. They weren’t rodeo folks but whole heartedly supported me, often hauling horses for us. Dad flew us to a few rodeos. He loved that. Thank you to the rodeo folks who took the time to visit with him. He so enjoyed those friendships, even Schall. One of Dad’s greatest loves was flying, having gotten his pilot’s license in the mid-1970s, and flying airplanes and helicopters for 40 years. I hope that he and Jack Bethel are currently talking shop. He loved golf. He’d play early in the mornings when it was cool and still. He and many other volunteers built the current club house at the golf course. He often scolded me for getting too close with the hand push rototiller to the young bushes that now line the west side of Fairway #1. As a disgruntled teenager, I didn’t care if they all died. He loved playing cards - poker, whist, solo, pinochle, and more.Mom and Dad ventured into the banking business in 1988 - difficult times indeed. Their ultimate passion was the grand kids, Lauren, Paul, Jacob, and Katie. They loved them very much, and tried never to miss an activity, even when they shouldn’t have been traveling. Neither of them could see or hear at that point but there they’d be, sitting in the bleachers, at some remote eastern Montana location. G Pa always had the skating rink cleaned off. They were very civic minded, and always stressed to their family to be kind and polite. Dad was very staunch in his opinion that funerals are a huge inconvenience for those attending and putting them on. He would rather that you spend time with your loved ones than attend his funeral. Per his wishes, we will have a graveside service sometime this summer. Should you choose, please contribute to the worthy cause of your choice. We love you, Dad. Godspeed. Allan is survived by son, Dean (Karen) Wang; grandchildren, Lauren (Kade) Huber, Paul Wang, Jacob Wang, and Katie Wang; great granddaughter, Hadlee Huber; brother-in-law, Art (Mary) Harlow; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Wang; and numerous nieces and nephews. Allan was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Harlow) Wang; sisters Alma (Berg) Thoemke, Edna (Berg) Plummer; and brothers, Victor Berg, Lee Roy Wang and Dulane Wang.

Gary "G.L." Perry - October 21, 1936 - December 06, 2021

Departed: 12/06/2021 (Baker)
Obituary Preview: Funeral Service for Gary “GL” Perry, 85, of, Marmarth, ND will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at Stevenson Funeral Home Baker. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Marmarth, ND. For those unable to attend service will be live streamed at stevensonfuneralhome.com.
Family receiving friends will be 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Stevenson Funeral Home Baker.
Gary passed away December 6, 2021 at his home in Marmarth, ND.
Gary Lee Perry was born Oct. 21, 1936 in Baker, MT the youngest of 8 children born to J.C and Iva (Ellenbaune) Perry. He grew up on the family homestead on Cabin Creek. He attended school in Wills Creek, Ollie and graduated from Baker High School. After graduating, Gary worked as a roughneck and later began driving gravel trucks and working winters as a depot agent for the railroad.
On September 3, 1961 he married Patricia Childers and later bought his own truck. GL and Patti had 2 daughters. He was a loving father but often commented that “he’d take all the 2 a.m. feedings but he was moving, by himself, to Alaska when the girls became teenagers!” In spite of the joking, G.L. was always there supplying love, guidance and support his family in all of their endeavors.
Gary worked the majority of his life in road construction, excavation, and had the innate ability to successfully tackle projects no one else could. Having worked on every interstate construction project in the state of MT as well as secondary highways, byways, and railroad spurs, his seafoam green Peterbilt was known far and wide.
Gary’s creative engineering allowed him to design and manufacture a vast array of specialty tools and equipment, often at a moment’s notice, and frequently to Patti’s dismay. The tensile strength of steel, and Patti’s approval were the only two factors limiting his ingenuity, as the Laws of physics couldn’t.
G.L.’s generous spirit and compassionate heart were some of his defining qualities. He never allowed someone in need to go unaided, long time friend or total stranger. Gary’s time, skills and resources were quickly and freely offered. He was a lifetime member of both the Marmarth Fire Department and Ambulance service, volunteering his time and abilities frequently to them and many other organizations.
Gary is survived by two sisters, Joyce Summers (AZ) and Betty Ure (MT); daughters, Hailey (Wally) Dschaak and Heidi Perry; 8 Grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; dozens of nieces and nephews, and numerous “adopted” family members that Gary welcomed into his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patti; brothers, Lyle and Jimmy; sisters, Bernice Bruce, Dorothy Bummer, and Pat Oldstykke.

Dale passed away Friday, September 24, 2021 at his home in Baker.
As Dale would always say; “Just hit the high spots.” Justin Dale Boggs was born on September 6, 1956 to Donald and Darlene (Elmore) Boggs. Dale was raised on a ranch south of Ekalaka. He learned quickly the value of hard work and respect from his dad and hero Donald. Ma Boggs didn’t raise no dummy either. Darlene made sure her kids were always loved. With all of his siblings and friends, Dale attended Hawks Home School up until the 7th grade.
The family later moved into town where Dale attended Carter County High School and graduated in 1974. He loved athletics and the kinship of playing amongst his friends. Dale was humble, but confident. No one was going to outwork him and he was sure to never take a play off.
His passion and skills led him to Rocky Mountain College to play football and baseball for the Battlin Bears. This is where Dale blossomed to become the social lite we all know today. When Dale wasn’t studying, he was chasing a familiar girl from Baker; Connie Johnson. After graduating with a business degree in 1978, Dale and Connie were married on August 26, 1978 at Camp Needmore.
After moving to Baker, this union brought three children; Misti, Shye, and Jade. While raising a family, Dale was also starting his insurance career. He loved road trips and delivering policies to his customers. Dale was very proud of his business, but more proud to see his son Jade take it over. Dale enjoyed music, dancing, telling jokes, and playing the jukebox. He loved his children, especially his grandchildren, and he always attended their events and family gatherings. Dale knew how to make people laugh and lighten the mood. I’m sure many will miss his Christmas Cards; The Boggs Bunch. To “make a short story, long”, the memories of Dale will live on.

She told many times riding her favorite pony Stubby to school when the weather allowed. Randi started rodeoing at age eight, often competing against the ladies and did well. She participated in Little Britches and youth rodeos, her events were barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and breakaway roping, winning many trophies and buckles. She continued her love of rodeo during high school and after she was married. When she moved to Baker to attend high school where she graduated, she met Doug. They were married on March 14, 1970 in Baker in the Community Church. She was a member of Baker Community Church for 47 years until the UCC became too liberal and Doug and her decided they had to leave. Randi and Doug made their home in Baker where later their son Damon was born at the hospital in Baker. She wasn’t much of a cook at first but learned well after experimenting on her family. Randi learned to bake Kuchen and Cinnamon Rolls from her mother-in-law, she was very good at this and she shared with her neighbors as well. Later grandchildren, Brooke and Hailey would love coming to the farm for Grandma’s goodies. Randi and her family enjoyed camping, fishing and rodeos. Randi and Doug also team roped together and enjoyed just riding horses. Randi also judged youth rodeos and in the 4-H programs, helping kids with their horses. She and Doug were very active in the Spartans Sports Boosters when Damon was in school. Later Randi worked part time at the Veterinary clinic and the Baker Livestock Auction for many years and was a substitute teacher at Baker High School for several years. Her love of horse racing began when she worked for a race horse trainer who came to Baker with his horses. She and Doug went on to run their own race horses and they did very well. After Damon graduated from high school, she and Doug moved to the farm where they made their home. When Doug’s Dad retired from the farm, she began another career of being a farmer, one that she would love forever. Randi also had a love for animals, she had many barn cats and farm dogs over the years. People often would say they wanted to come back as one of Randi’s animals. She and Doug farmed side by side for many years until she was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2020 when they made the decision to lease the farm. With the arrival of twin granddaughters in September of 2008, Brooke and Hailey, they brought so much enjoyment to her life. At an early age she instilled her love of horses into them and they loved the farm too. Randi loved making her homemade pizza and the girls were eager to help when they were here. Randi and Doug loved going to the Black Hills camping and going to the NFR and other rodeos. They also volunteered at the State High School rodeo held in Baker for many years. Obituary Preview: Family receiving friends for Dave Crawford, 70, will be Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker.
A Private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11:00 am. If you would like to view this service please go to Stevenson Funeral Home web site and select Dave's name. It will start ten minutes before the service.
Dave passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT.
David Jesse Crawford was born on September 18, 1950, in Miles City, MT to Clyde and Rosella Crawford. He was the oldest of six children. David grew up on the family farm Northeast of Baker. He attended the O’Donnell country school from first grade through eight grade. He attended Baker High School for awhile and went on to get his GED later in life. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith as a baby. On December 21, 1969, David married the love of his life Anna Marie Rost. To this union two sons were born, Clyde William and Lando Jesse. At the age of 17 David may have fabricated his age to start off his working career roughnecking. When his rig stacked, he then went to work for Cate’s Welding business before starting his own welding business in 1974. In 1978 he built his welding shop. During a slow time for the welding business in 1992 David achieved one of his two goals in life and attended gunsmithing school in Denver Colorado. He graduated in the top 10% of his class. David came back to Baker and during the day he welded and did his gunsmithing business in the evenings. He then went Lamar Colorado and taught at the gunsmithing school during 1994 and 1995. Between his gunsmithing school and teaching he made friends from all over the world (Norway, Sweden, Cyprus, Australia, and Canada). In 2002 David fulfilled his second life goal of going to Africa. He was able to journey to South Africa 10 times and was looking forward to making that trip again with his grandson. In 2004 David and Clyde ventured together and started Crawford’s Construction, Inc. David worked alongside his son until he retired in 2012. In 2011 he became a very PROUD grandpa when Cayson David Crawford was born. Grandpa spoiled Cayson – but he also passed down lots of knowledge along the way. In 2014 David found his little paradise when the family purchased The Bird Ranch. He spent the last seven years putting his heart, soul, and many many hours into developing the place he was happiest at. One of David’s passions was hunting. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and SCI. His love of hunting passed down to his son and grandson. Cayson loved the hours hunting, trapping, and fishing with grandpa (and we know these were some of grandpa’s favorite times). His passions for hunting/gunsmithing also formed some very special friends from various parts of the world. From Norway (Kåre and Øyvind (AKA Irvin) and families) to South Africa (Will and Family). David was such a “quality time” kind of person, fiercely loyal. If there was a Dave Crawford lesson it was about quality – anything worth doing was worth doing right. He let his word, loyalty, work ethic, risk taking, and focus on quality define him and his successes in business, welding, gunsmithing, forging, and anything he chose to do. He was a jack of all trades. Whether it was wood, pipe, iron, etc… he could take a piece or pile of material and turn it into a work of art. David loved his family above all things. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 51 years Anna Crawford , Baker, MT: his sons Clyde (Tina) Crawford and grandson Cayson David, Baker, MT; Lando Crawford, Dickinson, ND; his mother Rosella (Rose) Crawford, Baker, MT; his siblings Judy Trusty, Lewiston, ID; Deb Ranum, Baker, MT; Rosella (Rick) Fisher, Glendive, MT; Sharon (Johnny) Thielen, Baker, MT; mother-in-law Nellie Rost, Marmarth, ND; brothers-in- law/sisters-in-law Kay (Sonny) Hanson, Marmarth, ND; Roddy (Maxine) Rost, Willard, MT; Trish Rost, Baker, MT; Casey (Jean) Rost, Baker, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father Clyde Leo Crawford, his brother Steve Crawford, his father-in-law Murril (Tubby) Rost, and his brothers-in-law Billy Rost, Scott Rost, David Ranum.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice of a person's death, often published in a newspaper or online. It typically includes a brief account of the deceased's life, their achievements, and information about the upcoming funeral or memorial services.

Why is an obituary important?

An obituary serves as an important record of a person's life and passing. It notifies friends, family, and the community of the individual's death and provides essential details for those wishing to pay their respects. It can also serve as a historical document for future generations.

Who writes an obituary?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, or the funeral home handling the services. Some people even choose to write their own obituaries in advance.

What information is included in an obituary?

A typical obituary often includes the deceased's full name, age, date of birth, date of death, a brief summary of their life, list of surviving family members, time and place of the funeral or memorial services, and any charity the family wishes donations to be made to in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

There is no set length for an obituary, but they typically range from a few sentences to several paragraphs. The length may depend on the publication's space limitations and the life details the family wishes to include.

Can an obituary include personal messages?

Yes, it is common for obituaries to contain personal messages, anecdotes, or expressions of love and remembrance from the family. However, they should still maintain a respectful and professional tone.

Where are obituaries published?

Obituaries are usually published in local newspapers, on funeral home websites, and on dedicated online obituary platforms. Some families also share obituaries through social media.

Is there a standard format for writing an obituary?

While there is no one-size-fits-all format for obituaries, many follow a general structure: starting with announcing the death, followed by biographical sketch, list of family members, service information, and any preferred charities for donations.

How quickly should an obituary be published after someone dies?

The timing for publishing an obituary can depend on various factors such as the date of the funeral services and the newspaper's deadlines. Typically, an obituary is published several days before the services to allow people to make arrangements to attend.

Are obituaries public record?

Once published, obituaries become part of the public domain, however, the contents themselves are not considered public records like death certificates. Obituaries are voluntarily written and submitted by the family or representatives.

What should I do if I notice a factual error in an obituary?

If you notice a factual error, contact the newspaper or website that published the obituary as soon as possible. They can assist with publishing a correction or update.

Is there a difference between an obituary and a death notice?

Yes. A death notice is a shorter statement announcing someone's passing, often with minimal detail and is typically paid for by the family. An obituary is lengthier, more detailed, and can include a tribute to the person's life.

How are obituaries verified?

Obituaries submitted to newspapers or online platforms are typically verified with a death certificate or through confirmation with a funeral home. This process helps prevent false reporting of deaths.

Can obituaries be written for anyone?

Yes, obituaries are written for individuals from all walks of life and are not reserved for public figures or celebrities. They honor the life of the deceased, regardless of social status.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

What if I don't know all the details of the deceased's life?

If you're unsure of all the facts, it's best to consult with other family members, friends, or colleagues who may have additional information. It's important to only include accurate and verifiable information.

While there are no strict legal rules for writing obituaries, it's important to respect privacy and avoid defamatory or contentious statements. Always ensure the information provided is accurate and presented with dignity.

How can I make an obituary more personal?

To personalize an obituary, include specific anecdotes, personal attributes, hobbies, or accomplishments that highlight the unique aspects of the deceased's life. Personal messages from the family can also add a heartfelt touch.

What should be avoided when writing an obituary?

Avoid including overly sensitive personal information, such as the cause of death, that may be distressing to family members or readers. It's also important to avoid language that could be perceived as insensitive or offensive.

Can I update an obituary after it has been published?

Once an obituary is published, particularly in print, it cannot be changed. However, online obituaries often offer the flexibility to edit or update the information. Contact the website or publication for their specific policies.

What can I do to ensure an obituary honors my loved one's wishes?

Discussing obituary preferences with your loved ones ahead of time can ensure their wishes are respected. If they have left specific instructions or written their own obituary, follow their guidelines as closely as possible.

How can family members be involved in writing the obituary?
