Departed: 03/31/2024 (Naples)
Obituary Preview: Doris A. Jones, Fairport, 1931-2024, passed peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024.
Doris will be missed by many, especially her children and grandchildren. She spent much of her life compassionately caring for others as a RN. First as a nursing student at Highland Hospital and Trudeau TB Sanatorium in Saranac Lake, then Monroe Community Hospital and Fairport Baptist Home. Doris often recalled people she had cared for and much to the entertainment of her family and confusion of doctors who attended her later in life, she often reported her patient’s illnesses, ailments, and surgeries as her own. In response, her family doctor of many years wrote her a prescription for all the ice cream she wanted which she presented frequently.
Doris loved animals too. Beginning on the farm in Clyde NY where she grew up and throughout her life from pet chickens to dogs, all found a place in Doris’ heart. She especially loved cardinals who she would watch at the feeder for hours. Spring was always Doris’ favorite time of year, and we would mark the end of each winter with Doris repeating a favorite poem, “Spring is sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the birdies (or flowers, and now Doris) is”.
Predeceased by her husband Carl Jones. She is survived by her children, Peter Jones (Brighton NY), Karen Jones (Hillsborough NC) and Susan (Ed) Jones (Fairport NY), grandchildren Lyra, Owen and Eli (Karen), Phil and Darrian (Susan). She is also survived by her stepson Bert (Priscilla) Jones (Pittsford NY).
Doris will be remembered privately by her family.
Remembering Doris’ frequent trips to lunch at the Perinton Community Center, please consider a donation in her memory to Senior Options For Independence (SOFI Transportation), 4646 Nine Mile Point Road, Fairport, NY 14450.

Jill H. Hotelling - August 03, 1945 - March 14, 2024

Departed: 03/14/2024 (Naples)
Obituary Preview: Jill H. Hotelling, 78, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 14 2024.
Jill was born to Muriel Snyder and Ivan Huckleberry in Watertown, NY on August 3, 1945. She was raised by her grandmother and grandfather, Helen and Albert Hatch, whom she called Mommy and Daddy. She started school in the Bloomfield elementary school but moved to Victor in second grade and attended Victor Central School. She met Lanny when they were in junior high and dated on and off throughout the school years, marrying February 22, 1964.
Jill worked for many years as a community relations representative at the McDonalds’ restaurants in Shortsville, Canandaigua and Perinton. Jill enjoyed working with the communities and with her customers, especially the “regulars” who she considered friends. She retired in 2007 and continued working part-time as a substitute teacher’s aide and bus monitor in the Naples and Whitman school districts due to her love of children.
Over the years, Jill was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Stars in Victor where she was Matron in 1983, and the Rotary Club in Shortsville, NY where she received the Paul Harris award. Jill volunteered as an emergency medical technician for the Naples Ambulance Corp. She was a member of Trinity Federated Church of Naples where she volunteered as the financial secretary for many years. She recently joined the Naples Rotary Club.
Jill’s faith and family were the biggest parts of her life. Jill and Lanny have so many memories as their lives were devoted to one another, and all notes to each other would be signed “RILY”... Remember I Love You. She loved going to Topsail each year with Lanny and some of the family. She said her favorite part of the trip was digging her feet into the sand while the ocean crept up and covered her toes. Her daughters were fortunate to travel to Las Vegas many times for a “mother/daughters’ trip”, creating so many memories and funny stories. Jill spent countless hours with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her Bebe. You could often find her at sporting event or concert of a grandchild. Bebe and Wesley loved to watch the trains in Fairport and just being together. Bella and Bebe baked and cooked together and shared a love of Frankie Vallie and Elvis Presley. Lexa loved to sit and have tea parties or coffee with Bebe, sharing stories and opinions on society. Noel would spend time learning the family ancestry with her and looking at old photographs. Chelsea spent a lot of childhood at Bebe’s house, enjoying the spoils of being the first grandchild, butterfly hunting and fishing, and would always answer when Bebe called her, not so much for anyone else. Calin would always give the biggest hugs to her and was so happy he finally got to vacation at Topsail with her. Leigha convinced Bebe to take her cat when she moved out of state, so she called Bebe for virtual coffee on messenger every morning, seeking her wise words or talking about Pumpkin. At holidays, Bebe held all the babies and chatted in the kitchen while meals were prepared. It is only fitting that two babies were born at the moment she went to heaven. In her quiet times, she enjoyed feeding and watching the birds at her home and was a voracious reader.
Jill made the decision back in 2012 to donate her body to the medical school and made sure the paperwork was filled out, complete and easy to locate. She was always prepared and very organized.
Jill is survived by her devoted husband of over 60 years, Lanny; her daughters Lanine (John) Hotelling-Casella and Andrea (Jack) Leach; her grandchildren: John, Melissa, Chelsea, Leigha, Calin, Noel, Lexa and Annabella; great-grandchildren: Ellie, Penny, Wesley, Shane, Cody, Brynn and Knox; her brother,Stanton; her brother-in- law, Joel (Pam) Hotelling & a sister-in-law, Tami Brennan; and many cousins, nieces, & nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Federated Church, Naples, NY at 1pm on May 19, 2024.

Joan Z. Hoeffel - July 01, 1934 - December 10, 2023

Departed: 12/10/2023 (Naples)
Obituary Preview: For most of her 89 years, Joan Fay Zabadal Hoeffel was in motion, bringing joy and meaning to hard lives, beautifying the world with flowers, tending to her family with singular devotion.Born in Syracuse on July 1, 1934, Joan graduated from The Convent School as valedictorian and insisted the girls not be lined up by grade point average. This selflessness characterized her whole life. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and became a nurse. Before long, she was set up on a blind date with Donald James Hoeffel. He was smart and fun, and they married on April 30, 1960.Joan was a kind, thoughtful and unusually indulgent mother. She read nightly to her children, John and Jancy, instilling a lifelong love of books. She invented elaborate birthday celebrations and clever rhyming treasure hunts. Breakfasts were skillfully designed to avert the horror of soggy cereal, lunches were often the much envied “all kinds of crackers,” sandwiches went to school with little love notes. She volunteered with Twig, sang with Sweet Adelines, took up the banjo and skied in giant swooping turns. When the kids grew older, she became a pioneer among women by launching a new career. Joan used her fertile creativity and limitless energy to bring joy into the lives of disabled people as the program director at the Rochester Area Multiple Sclerosis Society. At the same time, she cared lovingly for her mother who had MS. Restless for a new challenge, she earned a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Syracuse University. During an internship at Xerox, she so impressed her supervisors that they created a job for her, helping people with disabilities return to work.Joan and Don retired to Naples, N.Y., where Joan was a lector at St. Januarius Catholic Church and volunteered at the Bristol Valley Theater, Hospeace House and the Open Closet. Relying on Joan’s encyclopedic knowledge of flowers, they started Hunts Hollow Perennial Gardens, a “gardener’s garden” with hundreds of varieties. When Don developed dementia, Joan cared for him by herself for five trying but rewarding years. She was gratified that he died with her at home. For the next four years, Joan lived the quiet life she craved: polishing off a book every few days, doting on her beloved toy poodle, Schnookie, savoring an evening glass of wine and visiting with close friends. She died on December 10, at home with her children. She is survived by John and Jancy, her son-in-law Steve Singer, and her grandchildren Ben and Sam Singer.
