Patricia Mae Schroder - April 05, 1949 - March 25, 2024

Departed: 03/25/2024 (Austin)
Obituary Preview: Patricia Mae Schroder, beloved wife and mother, passed away on March 25, 2024 at age 74, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on April 5, 1949 in Quincy, Illinois to Earl Dolbeare Jr. and Nada Nichols Dolbeare. Pattie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Schroder, her son Kevin Schroder, and her sisters Betty Snavely and Judy Blentlinger. She is survived by her loving children, sons Jeffery Schroder and Dean Calhoun, daughter-in-law Cheri Cabiya, brother Gary Dolbeare, nieces Becky Wier and Melissa Pool, and grandson Cory Berger, as well as numerous devoted family and friends.
As a mother, Pattie was nothing short of remarkable. She raised three young boys with unwavering love and devotion, guiding them through life's challenges and celebrating their triumphs. She was the only true mother her daughter-in-law ever knew, who she loved and treated as her own daughter. Her nurturing and caring spirit were evident in every moment she spent with her children, providing comfort and care when they were sick and always putting their needs above her own.
Pattie’s kindness also extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a pillar of strength for her husband, offering steadfast support and love throughout their journey together. In times of immense sorrow, she stood by the side of her parents, Nada and Earl, her husband Roy, and her son Kevin, as they battled terminal illnesses. Her presence brought solace and comfort during their most difficult moments.
Her resilient spirit guided her through life's toughest challenges, and she remained a source of strength for her loved ones despite the hardships she faced. Even in her own grief, she was determined to raise her grandchild with the same love and care she had shown to her own children.
Beyond her immediate family, Pattie touched the lives of countless others. Her kind heart and generous nature knew no bounds. She offered a helping hand and a listening ear to family, friends, and community members alike.
Her passing is an overwhelming and devastating loss for those of us who knew and loved her, and her impact on our community is immeasurable. Words cannot adequately express the void left in our hearts as we try to carry on without her selfless love and devotion. Weekly outings to her favorite restaurants, frequent chats around the kitchen table, daily phone calls – conversations that always ended with “I love you” and “I will see you tomorrow” – are profoundly missed now that “tomorrow” will never come.
May we continue her legacy by setting an example of the caring and compassionate person she taught us to be. Heaven has gained another beautiful soul to join Roy, Kevin, loved ones, and all our beloved fur babies that have passed before us. May she bring comfort to them until we join together as a family once again.
As we mourn the loss of our dear Pattie, let us remember the immeasurable impact she had on our lives. May her memory serve as a reminder of the power of love, selflessness, and compassion. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
Rest in peace, dear Pattie. The family requests that donations in Pattie’s name to the following charity be made in lieu of flowers: Hospice Austin’s Christopher House at: https://www.hospiceaustin.org/get-involved/donate/donation-form/

Allan Forte Jr. - January 20, 1932 - January 25, 2024

Departed: 01/25/2024 (Austin)
Obituary Preview: Obituary
Allan B. Forte, Jr.
Allan was born on January 20, 1932 in Colón, Republic of Panama to Allan and Doris Forte. He passed away in Austin, Texas on January 25, 2024. He is widowed to Vilma L. Bernard who passed away on March 14, 2011. He has four children, Derrick, Michele, Darrell and Corey. Darrell is married to Sari Forte, and they provided Allan and Vilma with three grandchildren, Natalia, Isabella and Julian.
Allan was the essence of a family man. His wife and children were his everything. He started studying God’s word with his wife Vilma with a missionary couple, Richard and Doris Davis, in 1968. Vilma was baptized in 1972, and Allan dedicated his life to Jehovah in 1993. Throughout their marriage, Allan was an ardent supporter of the Truth and supported his wife in raising their children to be true Christians who love and worship Jehovah.
Allan’s greatest gift to his family is what is lamentably so lacking in this world. Simply put, a solid, loving, constant, spiritual man that was a husband and father. He fought the fine fight every day to give his best to his family and friends and was rewarded with family and friends that adored him. His favorite scripture 3 John 4 exudes the essence of his heart. It says, “No greater joy do I have than this: that I should hear that my children go on walking in the truth.” The simplicity and elegance of this scripture explains the man that one called husband, four called father, three called grandfather, hundreds called friend, and millions called brother.
When it came to his spiritual life, Allan was studious in nature. He relished seeking the “deeper things” of the Truth and discussing them. As a coach, he had an affinity for the young ones. He had an innate desire to see them succeed, avoid life’s pitfalls, pursue their goals, and stay the faithful course. With his wife, and later alone, he was a formidable spiritual force.
Allan now remains safely in the most secure location in the universe, Jehovah’s memory. We look forward to seeing him again soon. Until then, we will miss him, and remember him with a smile.
Visitation will be held  from 10:00 am-2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Austin Peel and Son Funeral Home, 607 E. Anderson Ln.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a notice of someone's death, often published in a newspaper or online, that provides details about the person's life, achievements, family members, and the upcoming funeral or memorial services. It is both an announcement and a way to remember and honor the deceased.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as an important historical record and help to inform the community and extended network of the deceased's passing. They also provide closure for the family and friends, commemorating the person's life and signaling the start of the grieving process.

Who typically writes an obituary?

Obituaries are typically written by a family member or close friend of the deceased, or by the funeral home in consultation with the family. In some cases, individuals write their own obituaries in advance as part of their end-of-life planning.

What information should be included?

An obituary should include the full name of the deceased, their age, date of birth and death, a brief account of their life, achievements, and personality, surviving family members, funeral or memorial service details, and any preferred charities for donations.

Is there a difference between an obituary and a death notice?

Yes, a death notice is a simpler, shorter statement announcing someone's passing and the details of the funeral services, usually placed by the family directly in a newspaper, while an obituary is more detailed and includes a biographical sketch.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary widely depending on the publication's space limitations and the level of detail the family wishes to include. It typically ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs.

Are obituaries published both in print and online?

Yes, obituaries can be published in both print newspapers and on digital platforms, such as online newspapers, memorial websites, and social media channels.

Can I write my own obituary before I pass away?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituaries in advance. This can be a way to ensure your life is celebrated in the way you desire, and it can also alleviate stress for your loved ones during a difficult time.

What tone should an obituary have?

While the tone of an obituary can reflect the personality of the deceased, it is typically formal and respectful. It may include poignant or humorous anecdotes, especially if they illustrate the character of the deceased person.

How to begin writing an obituary?

To start writing an obituary, gather important factual information about the deceased, including dates, family details, and career information. Begin with the announcement of death, followed by a brief life summary, details on family, and any service arrangements.

What are common obituary phrases?

Common phrases used in obituaries include "passed away," "survived by," "in lieu of flowers," and "will be dearly missed." Each of these phrases signals respect and love for the deceased.

Can an obituary include photos?

Yes, many obituaries include a photo of the deceased. This is typically a recent, clear headshot, but it can be any picture that the family feels best represents their loved one.

Is it necessary to mention the cause of death?

Mentioning the cause of death in an obituary is not necessary and is entirely at the discretion of the family. Many choose to omit this detail for privacy reasons.

How do I submit an obituary to a local newspaper or website?

To submit an obituary, contact the newspaper or website to inquire about their submission guidelines, costs, and any format requirements. Many publications offer online submission forms for convenience.

Are there cost considerations for publishing an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers charge a fee based on the length of the obituary and whether a photograph is included. Online obituaries can be less expensive or even free on some memorial websites.

What should you not include in an obituary?

Avoid including overly personal details or anything that could be used for identity theft, such as full addresses, social security numbers, or other sensitive personal information.

How does one handle an obituary for a controversial figure?

For controversial figures, it is best to remain factual and respectful, acknowledging the person's impact and noting significant aspects of their life without focusing on controversies or legal issues.

Should an obituary mention charitable donations?

If the deceased or the family has a specific charity they wish to support, it is common to mention this in the obituary, often phrased as, "In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to [Charity Name]."

Can friends and acquaintances submit additional information for an obituary?

While the immediate family typically prepares the final text, they may welcome anecdotes, remembrances, or photos from friends and acquaintances, which can be included if space permits or used during services.

How should surviving family members be listed?

Surviving family members are usually listed in order of closeness to the deceased, such as a spouse, children, siblings, and then extended family. Some obituaries also mention very close friends if appropriate.

What if there are errors in the published obituary?

If an error is found after publication, contact the publication as soon as possible to request a correction. Most newspapers have policies in place for correcting errors in obituaries.
