Obituary Preview: Terrance "Terry" Lynn Booth was born on July 12,1951 in Augusta, Kansas to Judson Milford and Wilma Maxine (Lacey) Booth.  Terry's family moved to Casper Wyoming when he was 5 years old and Terry attended the public schools in Casper.  He graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper Wyoming with the class of 1970.  Terry worked at a lumber yard in Casper.  He married Jeannie Jaure in 1970 and they had 1 daughter, Elizabeth Ann.  Terry and Jeannie divorced in 1974.  Then, Terry went to work for ATCO Drilling co, working oilfield in Wyoming, and this job it kept him moving to many different places in Wyoming and Colorado.  Terry and Aleta Chris Booth was united in marriage November 14th, 1980 in Elco Nevada.   Due to the work in the oilfield shutting down, Terry and Chris moved to Manning Ks in 1981.  Terry worked as a feed truck driver for Lane Co. Feeders, Dighton KS for 15 years.  After Chris finished her Physical Therapist Assistant program, Terry and Chris moved to Ashland Ks in 1998.  Terry worked with Russ Hensley Construction as a carpenter for 17 years in Ashland, and then he retired.  Terry's hobbies were coin collecting, camping and fishing. And He loved to go to a good auction to see what treasurers he could buy.  Terry left his earthly home at the Ashland Health Center at the age of 70.   Terry's survivors are, Aleta Chris of the home, daughter Elizabeth (Lisa) McPherson and husband Roger, Casper Wyo.  step-son Conan Taylor and wife Glenda, Winter Garden Florida, step-daughter Sierra Schafer and husband Brian, Las Vegas Nevada, and step-daughter Kelsey Taylor, Dighton Ks, a brother Carl Booth, a sister Pam Muir and husband Louis, 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Dennis Booth of Casper Wyoming.  There will be no funeral services as per his wishes, and after cremation he will be taken to Casper Wyoming to be with his family. The Family has suggested no flowers or plants, but in Terry's name donations may be made to the Ashland EMS.

Peggy Anthony - Unknown - November 02, 2021

Obituary Preview: Peggy Lou (Berryhill) Anthony, the daughter of Vera Martin and Fred Berryhill, was born on August 21, 1934, in Kenna, New Mexico, she attended the Elida schools where she graduated with the class of 1953. Peggy grew up with 5 sisters. Her dad dreamed of having a son to help him work on the ranch, but he got 6 daughters instead. After graduation Peggy worked in the local business to save money, so her and Jack could get married. They were married July 17, 1953. To this union, two children were born. Later a 1 granddaughter and 2 great-grandchildren to love and they adore them all. While Peggy and Jack both were living at Parkview Point, the best part was not having to cook, clean or do the laundry. It’s an “easy” life. Peggy’s advice for youngsters: “Be honest & work hard to win in the end!”

Obituary Preview: Betty Louise (Angelle) Salyer was born October 8, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas . Betty  moved with her family when she was 3 from San Antonio to Galveston Island, Texas.  Betty was the youngest of three children, Duval Angelle was her oldest sibling and Rose Marie Angelle was her older sister. Betty remained in Galveston through her Grade School Years and attended Ball High School in Galveston. After graduation from High School Betty attended Texas State Women’s College (now Texas Women’s University) in Denton, Texas. Betty graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. Betty moved to Ashland, Kansas after graduation, and was the Home Demonstration Agent for Southwest Kansas. Betty met Thomas Salyer on a blind date while attending college in Denton which was a part of the reason for the move to Ashland to work. The relationship blossomed.  Betty and Tom were married on November 23, 1950. Betty and Tom lived in Manhattan Kansas while Tom finished his degree in Agriculture Administration. They started their family on November 16, 1951 with the birth of Ronald Thomas Salyer. After graduation, the family moved back to Ashland and Betty was a proud housewife and homemaker as the family continued to grow with the birth of Charles Paul Salyer on January 15, 1953. Then Renee Marie Salyer was born July 1, 1955 and passed away July 3, 1955 from a underdeveloped lung condition. The next addition was Karen Angel (Salyer) Divine on October 8, 1956. Her 28 year old birthday present. In late 1956 Betty and Tom moved to Dodge City, Kansas as Tom became an insurance agent for Kansas Farm Bureau Insurance. After six months they moved to Spearville, Kansas and the family continued to grow with the birth of Matthew Garth Salyer on December 27, 1960. The final addition was Bradford John Salyer on October 28, 1968. Betty was 40 years and 20 days old at the time.    As a housewife and homemaker Betty was active in her community and could always be counted on to assist anytime she was asked and cooked some of the best fried chicken anyone could ever wrap their lips around as well as serve, coordinate, and clean up for events. Betty was the first to volunteer to be a Den Mother for the cub scouts program as it started in Spearville, Kansas. In addition to these activities Betty spent many evenings and weekends teaching any young woman who asked to make cakes and pies from scratch in her home.    In 1973, she and Tom moved back to Ashland as Tom got back into farming and ranching and Betty continued to raise the last three children. She was mom to many more children than just the five she raised because of her loving world famous hugs, hospitality, delicious snacks and personality.    In 1988 Betty went to work at the Ashland Floral Shop for Renee Duval and after nine months bought the business from Renee when she decided to move to Colorado Springs Colorado. Betty owned the Ashland Floral Shop for 13 years. After Betty sold the Flower Shop she went to work for D and B Pharmacy where she ran the register and continued to pass out hugs on demand, was always ready with a joke and an infectious laugh that would brighten anyone’s day. Betty continued to work for D and B part time until the last few months of her life.    Betty went to be with her mother, brother, sister, husband and the three children who preceded her in death on August 17, 2021. Betty was 92 years, 10 months and nine days old. With the loss of an infant daughter Renee at age 27, the loss of her oldest son Ron at age 61, the loss of her husband Tom at age 64 and the loss of Karen at age 87 plus the loss of her siblings and mother her faith in God never wavered and her love never stopped. She is an inspiration to us all.  Betty is survived by her son's Charles Paul Salyer, Matthew Salyer, and Bradford Salyer.

Obituary Preview: Esther Jean Posusta was born on March 28, 1951 to Frank and Helen (Meitler) Posusta in Lucas, Kansas.  Esther attended grade school at the Bethlehem Lutheran School in Sylvan Grove, Kansas. Esther enjoyed being outside especially with horses during her younger years. Esther graduated high school in 1969 at the Sylvan Unified High.  Esther continued her education at the Beloit Vo-Tech in Business Eduction in 1970, where she met her husband Don White.  Esther and Don were married December 5, 1970 and were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary with a virtual celebration.  Esther and  Don lived in Mankato, Kansas for 4 years before moving to Ashland, Kansas in January of 1975.  Esther was a stay at home Mom until all of her children were in school.  Esther enjoyed working in various positions in Ashland, to include, Clerk at Drug Store and Grocery Store, clerk at the County Treasurer Office, Sheriff Offices dispatcher, teller at Stockgrowers State Bank, Secretary at Godly Play and Cook and Baker for the Ashland School System.  Esther enjoyed playing Bingo, Bunco, Cards, Marbles, and Bean Bag Games with friends and family.  Esther was a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, a member of Couples Club and Woman's Club at the golf course,  Firefighter and Fire Chiefs wife and Rec commission Slow Pitch Softball (catcher).  Esther and Don loved their dancing and were very good. She enjoyed, bowling, gardening and raising flowers.  Esther loved her cats and dogs.  She enjoyed hosting several foreign exchange students.  Esther was preceded in death by daughter, Karen; parents; parents in-laws; and two brother-in-laws.  Esther left her earthly home on December 9, 2020 at the Ashland Long Term Care Unit.  Esther is survived by her husband, Don White of Ashland, Kansas; children, Frank (Danielle) White of Ashland, Kansas, Jennifer (Steve) Ritchey of York, Pennsylvania; son-in-law, Jon (Mindy) Mages of Blackwell, Oklahoma; Grandchildren, Afton (Cacy)  Wyatt, Andrew Mages, Tye White, Brennen White, Sean White, Ethan Ritchey, Logan Ritchey, Christian Brown, Griffin Brown, Lakely Mages; Great Grandson, Colton Wyatt; Sisters, Lorraine (Gary) Charles of Topeka, Kansas, Lois Swisher of Salina, Kansas, Jolene Janssen of Lucas, Kansas, Donna (Jerry) Carver of Holyrood, Kansas; Sister-in-law Caroline (Gene) Stolzenburg; numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. The Family suggest memorial to the Hospice of the Prairie.

Eugene McVicker - Unknown - November 15, 2020

Obituary Preview: Eugene Clark McVicker was born to Floyd W. and Margaret J. McVicker on December 23, 1938.  Over the years he lived in a lot of places while growing up.  One of his favorite places during grade school time was Englewood, Kansas.  His family moved to Protection, Kansas where he attended Protection High School.  He was proud to be a Panther.  He always had stories to tell about his time at PHS. Half through his senior year he took his GED so he could graduate early and joined the Navy.   In the Navy he got to travel to many places like Japan, Guam, Hawaii, and Vietnam.  He trained to be a radar operator.  He was very proud to be serving his country and being a good radarman.  After his first hitch he got out of the Navy, coming back to Ashland, Kansas where he worked at odd jobs and made his home.  It was during this time that he met and married Nina (Diemer) McVicker on December 26, 1964.   He decided that he should volunteer to serve his country during the Vietnam War so he volunteered to re-enlist in the Navy.  This is when he was exposed to Agent Orange which made him very sick over time.  In 1967 he finished his second hitch and became a dad.   Once back home in Ashland, Kansas he began working at the Chevrolet Garage.  In 1970 his daughter Brenda was born during a major blizzard in March.  It was about that same time that he decided to go in to the Army Reserve.   In 1975 he started working for Northern Natural Gas Company which then turned into ENRON.  He started out at the bottom and worked his way up by taking classes and inventing things to help NNG be more productive.  He even got awards for some of his inventions.  When he retired he was the area Supervisor. He has always loved sports.  He seemed to have a natural ability.  He played in HS, in the Navy on his ship, and hometown ball.  He played on some very talented teams.  He loved to play football, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, shooting sports, hunting, and race car building and driving.  He also loved to watch the weekly games on the TV.   He was known for being a great mechanic.  He even won some awards from GM. Later in life he became a business owner.  He co-owned with Nina.  The Red Hill 66 and Red Hills Motel in Ashland, Kansas.  He also brought a little ranch south of town which he called his little place on the prairie.   He was a ember of NACE(National Association of Corrosion Engineers), Kiwanis, Ashland Volunteer Fire Department, Life member VFW, Life member Ashland Gun Club, and a night marshal for the Clark County Sheriff Department.   Eugene went to be with his heavenly father on November 15, 2020 at the age of 82 years.   Eugene is survivors include wife Nina McVicker of the home; daughters, Janit McVicker, Brenda Ketron (John); grandson, David Ketron, all of Ashland and many friends.

Cheryl (Rollins) German - Unknown - November 13, 2020

Obituary Preview: Cheryl Rollins German Cheryl Ann Dowling was born October 22, 1946, in Healdton, Oklahoma, the fifth of five children to Artie Frank and Vera Alma Sims, Dowling. She left this life on November 13, 2020, surrounded by three of her eight miracles in Highlands Ranch, Colorado Cheryl married Jim Rollins on September 2, 1961, in Protection Ks. They adopted and raised three children; Tracy and the twins, Aaron and Karen. They owned and operated Rollins Construction for 22 years before Jim passed away on October 30, 1990. Cheryl was so proud to obtain her GED and graduate with an Associate’s degree from Dodge City Community College in 1991. Other than her children and grandchildren, this was her proudest accomplishment. On February 21, 1998, she married life long family friend Don German. He passed away on December 25, 1998. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marie Byrd, brother Artie Dowling and her two husbands Jim Rollins, and Don German. Cheryl is survived by her son Aaron Rollins of Dodge City and his two children Hayden and Rylie; her daughters Tracy and husband Mark Isenbart of Englewood, their son Marcus, and Karen and husband Brent Carmona and Dodge City, Kansas and their children Addison and Jacob. Two brothers Ray Dowling of Protection Ks, and Lee and wife Lona Dowling of Arnett, Oklahoma. Cheryl also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and friends who hold special places in her heart. The family suggests Memorials to The Shriners Hospital or a Charity of personal choice in care of Wilkinson Funeral home in Ashland.

" Bob " Robert Fellers - Unknown - November 10, 2020

Obituary Preview: Robert (Bob) Austin Fellers was born on April 29, 1935 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Francis (Jack) and Pauline (Cox) Fellers.  Bob and his family moved from Mullinville, Kansas to Ashland, Kansas in 1946, when he was 10 years old.  The family owned the Firestone Store until they purchased the Ford Agency from George McNickle in 1949.  Bob helped his Dad with the business from an early age.  Bob graduated from Ashland High School in 1953.  He excelled academically while playing on the basketball and football teams.  Bob graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1958, with a degree in Business.  Bob served in the Army after graduating from college.   Bob returned to Ashland to manage the Ford/Mercury Agency with his Dad.  Bob married Patricia Ann Peterson December 28, 1958, in Protection, Kansas.  They made their home in Ashland and were blessed with three sons; James Robert, Steven John, and Paul Andrew.   Bob was active in the business community for many years.  During that time many folks came by to visit him because of his genuine caring nature.  Bob endeavored to provide each customer with the best service possible.  Bob was a member of the Jaycees and the Kiwanis Club.  Bob served on the city council for many years.  Bob was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed camping and taking care of his family.  Bob always put his family’s need above his own.   Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Pauline Fellers; cousin, Connie Green.  Bob left his earthly home on November 10, 2020 at the Ashland Senior Living.   Bob is survived by his wife Pat of the home, sons, Jim Fellers of Ashland, Kansas; Steve (Tammy) Fellers of Eldorado, Kansas; and Paul (Laura) Fellers of Lawrence, Kansas; brother, Tom (Phyllis) of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Heath Fellers of Austin, Texas; Hayley (Sam) McVay of Eldorado, Kansas; Alex Givotovsky of Cornwall, Connecticut; Nina Givotovsky of Des Moines, Iowa; three great granddaughters, Ellis, Emery, Eden, other family and friends, Bob will be missed by family and friends.

Bob was born May 4, 1944, at Salina, Kansas, the son of Carl A and Elizabeth "Betty" (Soldan) Bond.  After graduation from Plains High School, he briefly attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University before working various positions, including manager, at Home Lumber & Supply in Meade, Kansas.  Bob moved to Plains where he began work as a grain merchandiser at Plains Equity Exchange.  Bob moved to Ashland, Kansas in 1981 where he met and married Nina Glaser and began a career as a construction contractor.
Bob enjoyed collecting things, including old coins, and was a friend to several neighborhood cats.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Bond; and sister-in-law, Sue Ann "Sam" Bond.
Bob is survived by his children; Brenda Koehn and husband Tim of Dumas, Texas, Brent Bond and wife Gretchen of Clearwater, Kansas; grandchildren; Brittnee Koehn of Pueblo, Colorado, Tanner Koehn of Dumas, Texas, Grace (Bond) Reeves and husband Matt of Wichita, Kansas, Sarah Bond of Clearwater, Kansas; sister; Rita Bayless and husband Dale of Dodge City, Kansas, Marcia Bayless and husband Bob of Giddings, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family graveside inurnment will take place at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Harlene Joan (pronounced Jo Ann) Allison Sawyer Born December 29, 1939 at the family home in Curtis, Oklahoma to Louis and Dorothy Dodge Allison Walked into Heaven October 15, 2020 after a lengthy illness.  Jo was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Pat McLaughlin
and her nephew Doug Weder.
“Jo” is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim of the home,  and her daughters Teresa and husband Terry Arnold of Ashland, Kansas;  Sheryl and husband Jeff Golden of Ashland, Kansas, and Rebecca and husband Brent Merkle of Meade, Kansas.
Jo’s legacy is also carried on by six grandchildren:  Rebecca Arnold Johnson and husband Garret of Cherokee, Ok; Jenny Arnold Hink and husband Dusty of Liberal, KS;  Tyler Cramer and wife Hope of Cheney, KS; Kelly Cramer of Rowe, NM; Zane Golden and wife Tessa of Ashland, KS; and Grace Golden Borth and husband Nick of Meade, KS.
Great grandchildren who will miss Grandma Jo, are Harley Smart, Maggie Smart and Woodrow Johnson of Cherokee, OK.  Gus Hink of Liberal, KS and Ryat Cramer of Cheney KS.
Jo will also be missed by her 7 siblings:  Louis Allison and wife Shirley of Woodward, OK; Barbara Merwin of West Orange, NJ; Bill Allison and wife Jana of Woodward, OK; Marita Weder and husband John of Buffalo, OK:  Beverly Beuke and husband Larry of Woodward, OK;  Vura Moser and husband Bill of Sharon-Mutal, OK; and Sue McLaughlin of Woodward, OK.
Jo will be missed by a large extended family and a host of friends.

Deloras Baker - Unknown - October 04, 2020

Obituary Preview: Deloras O. (Boren) Nester Baker was born January 17, 1930, in Ashland to Earl and Alice (Hopingardner) Boren. She had one younger sister, Marilyn. Deloras attended school in Ashland and Laverne, Oklahoma, graduating from Laverne High School in 1949. Deloras attended college at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. She married Fred Carlos Nester, Jr., on July 27, 1951, at her parents' farm home near Laverne. To this union two daughters, were born Teddi Sue and Robin.  Fred died on May 21st, 1955, in a plane crash near Laverne. Deloras and daughters moved to Alva that summer to let Deloras attend college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. They then moved to Ashland and lived with her parents. Deloras began teaching 6th grade at Ashland Grade School and later taught 5th grade. She taught at the grade school from 1955 to 1968. Deloras and Donald C. Baker were united in marriage at the Ashland Methodist Church on November 6, 1958. They made their home in Ashland and Don was a carpenter. Don passed away January 29, 1995. Deloras taught and was the librarian at the Ashland High School from August 1970 until she retired in May of 1992. During this time, she also attended continuing education classes at St. Mary's of the Plains in Dodge City. Deloras moved to Wichita in 2006, living there until 2016 when she returned to Ashland. Deloras lived at the Ashland Health Center Senior Living Unit until her death. Deloras grew up with a strong sense of family and continued that with her own family. Birthdays meant a gathering of the entire Ashland bunch. Summers were spent camping and fishing at various lakes in the area. Holidays were always spent with family in Ashland and Laverne. She lived two blocks from her parents and one block from her sister and four children. Teddi Sue, Robin, Debra, Geene, Kevan, and Lynda grew up as siblings and best friends. Deloras kept her "six" kids busy with any number of interesting projects. The teacher in her just could not let them sit idle. She had been the 5th grade teacher for each and then was at the high school for the younger five. She had many interests throughout her life; rock collecting, weather predicting, crocheting, knitting, various craft projects, and she was an avid reader. Deloras passed that interest in reading to her daughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and both husbands. Deloras O. (Boren) Nester Baker left her earthly home on October 4, 2020, at the Ashland Health Center Senior Living Unit. Deloras is survived by her daughters, Teddi (Dave) Osborn, Ashland, and Robin (Gary) Steed, Wichita. Five grandchildren: Jim (Dawn) Osborn, Chino Valley, AZ; Jaclyn (Scott) McKeever, Annandale, VA; Ryan (Madison) Steed, Wichita; Kristofer (Angelica) Steed, Lawrence; Jillian (Matt) Fish, Wichita. Seven great grandchildren: Tyler Estrada; Brianna Osborn; Georgina, Ava, and Owen McKeever; Jackson and Charlie Fish. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Highland Cemetery in Ashland. Her nephew, Kevan Proctor, will officiate. Niece Lynda Bekoalok will sing Amazing Grace. Memorials may be made to Ashland Health Center Senior Living Unit.

Bob Harmon - Unknown - September 17, 2020

Obituary Preview: Bobbie Gene Harmon was born to Thomas Wilber Harmon and Myrtle Blanche (Fox) Harmon on July 17, 1935 at Ashland, Kansas.  Bob (aka Papa) attended Ashland Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1953.  Papa helped his father during the summers Custom Wheat Harvesting.  After graduation, he worked for Jim Jenkins, plumbing the Ashland District Hospital.  He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1957 with his brother Richard, Dean McPhail and Ronald Cox.  His mother told him “If they don’t treat you nice, just come back home.”  Upon his discharge, he helped his father harvest that summer and started work at Fellers Motor Company, which he continued until his retirement 36 years later.
Bob was married to Linda Underwood and they divorced in 1975.  He then married Ella Kay (Godfrey) Gillespie on October 7, 1978.
After retirement, Papa enjoyed driving his friends to doctor’s appointments, airports and anywhere they needed to go.  He was nicknamed “Driving Miss Daisy”.  Papa loved keeping up with his classmates and talking about old times.  He was an avid Ford man and tried to rub that off on all his kids!  They took many motorcycle trips with good friends.  Everyone loved hearing him whistle and sing in the shower.  He loved his family, his grandkids, but most of all he loved his Sugar Plum Pie..  Kay.
Survivors include his wife Ella Kay, Teresa Jellison (Gary), Kim Hazen (Stan), Robert Gillespie (Sybrina), Debbie Linke (Matt), Darin Harmon and Chris Gillespie (Melanie); 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.

Obituary Preview: Kenneth Gerold Schweitzer was born to Leta Doreen (Arnold) and Kenneth Schweitzer on January 21, 1942 at Perryton, Texas. Gerold attended the Perryton grade school, until the 5th grade, then the family moved to Ashland, Kansas, to make their home. Gerold Graduated from the Ashland High School with the class of 1960. He went to Barber school in 1961 and through the years Gerold had a Barber shop in Ashland, Protection and Coldwater cutting hair for many years before he retired in 2016. Gerold and Mary Jo Cox were united in marriage September 2, 1962 and to this union they raised 5 children. Gerold also worked in the Clark County Sheriff office as radio dispatch and deputy sheriff. Gerold worked at numerous jobs in the community. “Gerold always had a job for every child.” He was a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees, Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club, volunteer with the Ashland Fire Department. Gerold was preceded in death by his parents, son Justin, a sister Lynda Ritter and a granddaughter Kathy Day-Staggs. Survivors include his wife Mary Jo of the home, Rhona Cornwall and husband Chip of Wichita, Kansa; Donna Day of Garden City, Kansas; Raymond Schweitzer and and wife Michelle of Colby, Kansas and Cindi Haas and Shane of Ashland, Kansas; his sister SueAnn Kilgore of California, a brother Alan Schweitzer and wife Becky of Johnson, Kansas; 15 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Gerold was always talking to someone in the Barber Shop, up town down the street, he never met a stranger.

Obituary Preview: Tonya Sue Ediger Hink was born on May 22, 1969 in Ashland, Kansas to Jerry and Joyce Ediger. Tonya was immersed into the Lord, her Savior, at age 9, attending church in Englewood, where she later became the pianist for praise and worship and was a very active worker and server in the church. Tonya attended school in Ashland, Kansas and graduated with the class of 1987. Tonya attended WTSU in Canyon Texas for two years, earning a teaching certificate in Western and English riding. She then returned home where she helped her dad on the Ranch. Tonya later met a handsome young man whose name was “Danny,” and after dating for a while, they soon got engaged and then united in married on February 27, 1994. Tonya was a member of the NCHA (National cutting horse association), where she met and became a lifelong friends, with Ralph Depew and his wife Shirley. They are considered family. One of Tonya’s greatest love and joys was riding her horses, whether it be on the ranch or in the show pin. Tonya gave birth to two children, Rachel and Rebekah. Tonya was a great daughter, sister, wife and mother, giving the girls, her  love, caring and teaching them to ride and navigate life. She was preceded by her brother Monty Ediger, April 22, 2017. Tonya went to be with the Lord and Savior on August 22, 2020 in Ashland Kansas, at the age of 51. Tonya is survived by her parents Jerry and Joyce Ediger of Englewood Kansas; her husband Danny Hink and two children Rachel and Rebekah of Englewood; her loving grandmother Josephine Baker of Ashland, Kansas; Aunts, Uncles, cousins, other relatives, and a host of many friends. Tonya loved her family, friends, horses, dogs, playing the piano, but most of all, she loved the Lord. And it paid off. The family suggest memorials go to Englewood Church of Christ. Obituary Preview: Marva Rae Ellis was born on November 17, 1930 to James and Ruby (Hays) Musgrove, at Palco, Kansas. Marva attended grade school in Palco before the family moved to Ashland, Kansas.  She graduated from the Ashland High School with the class of 1948. Marva and Ben Ellis were united in marriage at the Assembly of God Church in 1952. To this union a son John was born. The family made their home in Ashland, where she worked with the Berryman family for many years, both at the title company and at the Stockgrowers State Bank, for over 45 years. She loved helping customers no matter the task. Her spunky spirit and love for others went hand in hand. Marva considered her co-workers her extended family. After she retired from the bank, she worked at D&B Pharmacy for a while.
Marva served with many organizations; BFW, March of Dimes, Ashland VFW Women Auxiliary, helping at the Bingo table at the Clark County Fair, and Marva got her Pilot License, yep to fly. Marva played the piano at the Church of God where she was a lifetime member.
Marva enjoyed spending her time, sewing, shopping and going fishing. Her time at the Ashland Health Center Senior Living playing games with the residents or playing the piano for their enjoyment, along with handing out chocolates to the residents there.  Marva went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2020 at the age of 89 at the Ashland Health Center care unit.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben; her brothers Robert Musgrove, Derald Musgrove; her sister Leota Morar.  She leaves as her survivors her son John Ellis, of Ashland; brothers Roger Musgrove, Meade & Don Musgrove Canyon City; many nieces, nephews other relatives, friends & co-workers at the bank.

Obituary Preview: James “Jim” Kent Wyatt (Papa Jim) was born December 13, 1941 to James Kermit and Virginia Margaret Cook Wyatt at the Ashland hospital in Ashland, Kansas. Jim was blessed with four sisters: Margaret “Peggy”, Virginia, Sharon, and Debra.  Jim attended Ashland schools, graduating from Ashland High School in 1960.  Jim worked on the AT&SF railroad in Wichita as a railroad construction worker.  Jim returned to southwest Kansas and worked as a mechanic for the Chevy garage in Meade.  In 19633, Jim joined the United States Navy as a Construction Mechanic (CM) in the Seabee construction forces.  His career in the military was cut short due to the loss of his sister, Peggy, and returned home to help his mom and sisters. Jim was honorably discharged in 1965.  Upon returning home, Jim joined in marriage with Betty Ann Gibson in 1966 and resided in Ashland, later divorcing in 1979.  During this time, Jim worked as a cattle buyer and raised horses.  In 1980, Jim married Joyce Louise Musgrove in Ashland, and they made their home near Sitka Kansas.  Joyce had three children, Felix, Jason, and Jolie, who he adopted.  Jim enjoyed his professions which included owning and operating a gravel hauling business, clerking livestock sales and various auctions in surrounding communities, working as a dispatcher at the Clark County sheriff’s office, hauling propane for Waits, Inc. but most of all he enjoyed his role, of many years, as the mail carrier for the rural citizens of Ashland. Jim had a life-long love of raising and racing quarter horses. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, motorcycle riding, swapping stories with friends, and spending time with family.  In later years, Jim loved bragging about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending time with them, teaching them about horses, and taking drives in the country.  Jim also enjoyed attending church services at the First Christian Church until his health would not allow him to do so. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Peggy. Jim went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 25, 2020, at the age of 78, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade Kansas.  Jim is survived by his children: Felix and wife Jacqueline of Winchester, CA, Jason and wife Franie of St. John and Jolie and husband Scott of Meade.  Three sisters: Virginia (Virgie) and husband Von of Ashland, Sharon and husband Steve of Fredonia, and Debbie and husband Ben of Ashland.  His Grandchildren: Haley Jaglowski and husband Ty of Murrieta, CA, Chelsey LeClear of Balko, OK, Christine LeClear of Stillwater, OK, Holden Girard of Manhattan, KS and Stone Wyatt of Winchester, CA.  His Great Granddaughters:  Rylee and Addison Jaglowski of Murrieta, CA. and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Military Graveside rite by the Ashland VFW and the SHOW team of Ashland High School.

Carol Nicholson - August 30, 1931 - January 27, 2020

Obituary Preview: Carol Esther (Stoelting) Nicholson was born 30 August 1931, on her grandparents’ farm near Bristol, South Dakota, the third child of Edwin August and Rose Marie (Anderson) Stoelting. When Carol was four, the family moved to Schaller, Iowa, and a year later to Sac City, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated in 1949. She then went to business school in Omaha, Nebraska. To earn part of her tuition, she was a nanny for a family in Omaha. After graduating, her first job was at Merchants Biscuit Company, which later became Keebler. It was there that she met her husband, Robert “Bob” Nicholson. They were married on 28 March 1954 in Sac City. Daughters Tara Sue and Lori Ann was born in Omaha. The family then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and from there to Woodward, Oklahoma, where son Bris Robert was born. He lived only three days. In May 1957, they moved to Ashland, Kansas, where daughters Jeri Lyn and Kira Lee and son Reid Alden were born. Reid lived one month and three days. Carol and Bob owned and operated the Ashland Nursing Home for many years. Later, Carol worked at Stockgrowers State Bank for 28 years, also working weekend nights at the nursing home. In retirement from the bank, she continued working weekends at the nursing home for a few years, housecleaning for local residents, and keeping busy with children and grandchildren. In 2016, she moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. Carol had many talents, including cooking, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She was a very good mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to many. Carol’s Christ-centered faith was very important to her. Her love of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, was exemplified by her devotion to family and friends and her service to others. Every Sunday, she and her daughters traveled 32 miles one-way to the Lutheran church in Buffalo, Oklahoma, because there was no Lutheran church in Ashland. She also made the same trip to see that her daughters completed confirmation classes. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sons Bris and Reid, brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Jean Stoelting, sister Betsy Stoelting, brother-in-law Lyle Skinner, and the father of her children, Robert Nicholson. Obituary Preview: Joyce Eloise Keasling was born June 19, 1932, to Dale and Irene Keasling in Protection, Kansas.  Joyce attended grade school in Protection, Kansas; she graduated from high school in Ashland, Kansas, in 1951.  Joyce and Richard were married on August 16, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Ashland, Kansas.  Joyce and Richard were blessed with five children:  Helen, Connie, Richard, Linda, and Larry.  Joyce was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a friend to everyone she met.  Joyce enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidering, and anything craft related, especially if it was for her grandchildren.  Joyce also enjoyed bird watching, her favorite bird being the red cardinal.  Being a farmer and rancher's wife she was good at making old things new again.  For many years she cooked not only for her family but also for the hired hands at Shaw's Feedyard.  She also helped at the First Christian Church in Ashland, Kansas, and she worked at the Ashland High School cafeteria when needed.  Joyce was preceded in death by the following loved ones:  Richard, her husband of 66 years; her parents Dale and Irene Keasling; her infant daughter Helen Irene; her sister Donna Graff; and brothers Donald Keasling and James Keasling.  Joyce went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 13, 2019, at Wheatlands Health Care Center in Kingman, Kansas.  Joyce is survived by:  sons Richard (Jeannee) Theander of Richmond, Texas, and Larry (Shelly) Theander of Ashland, Kansas; daughters Connie (John) Scammey of Independence, Kansas, and Linda (Keith) Dreiling of Topeka, Kansas; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other family; and friends.  The family suggests memorials to Rivercross Hospice, 251 South Whittier, Wichita, KS 67207, and Wheatlands Health Care Center, 750 West Washington, Kingman, KS 67068.

Martha attended St. Joseph’s School, Ashland High School, Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and Dodge City Community College where she received an Associate Degree in Nursing.  Martha grew up on a farm west of Ashland and was involved in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Acres 4-H Club and rodeo.  Martha worked as a Registered Nurse in Ashland and surrounding towns.
Martha married Donald (Duke) Crane on November 2, 1961 at Ashland.  Martha is survived by daughters:  Sarah Patton of Sharon Springs, KS, Shalah White and husband Gary, of Ashland, and Amy Crane of Cimarron, KS; five grandsons:  Zackary Patton, Trevor Gruver and Henry, Elliot, and Robert White.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brother, Pat Jacobs.
Graveside services will take place on Friday, November 15 at 11:00 AM at Highland Cemetery.  Martha will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary R. (Cunningham) Zane - Unknown - August 13, 2019

Obituary Preview: Mary Ruthanna Bond was born on the Bond Home place south of Plains, KS to Parents:  Orvel Aquilla and Audrey Elizabeth Marriott Bond.
She grew up with seven siblings: Orvel, Weymouth, Charles, Lowell, Abel, Myrabelle & Joe.
She attended Elementary Grades at West Glendale School south of Plains KS.
They also lived on the "Handy Place" 9 miles east of the TwoButtes Mountain in the 1940's. In the 1984 Ashland Centennial Book Mary wrote: "I came to Clark County in June 1944 (age 18) and worked for John and Flora Baden in the 5 & 10 cent Ben Franklin Store. I was a cook in the old Ashland Hospital at the time of Dr. Jerry McNickle's return from Service (1946) to set up his practice in Ashland."
Mary married farmer/rancher Willie Lee Cunningham on Feb. 10, 1948.  Willie (born 1908) was the son of Gus & Mary Amelia Bock Cunningham and he grew up in Acres KS. Willie purchased the family farm southwest of Ashland in 1947.  To this union was born five children.
Mary stayed busy raising the children, gardening, canning, sewing, teaching & loving her grandchildren but also over the years she helped on the farm in whatever manner needed: running a truck, tractor or mower, cooking and feeding hired crewmen, killing snakes when one unfortunately crossed her's or a kid's path and chasing down animals that were roaming the neighborhood and numerous other tasks that demanded her attention.
Some of her other many interests that kept her busy were being: Active at the Christian Church in Ashland KS. Active in the Acres 4-H Club as a Leader & 4-H Mom. Active in the VFW Auxiliary and The Tabitha House in Ashland.
Willie passed away in 1969.  Mary remarried on Jan. 8, 1973 to Lewis Franklin Zane, son of Thomas & Freda Zane.
In later years, Mary did a lot of washing, patching & repairing of clothes and articles that came into The Tabitha house but her favorite task was cleaning up and repairing dolls and stuffed animals that came into Tabitha House so the children would have a nice clean doll or stuffed friend to love and play with.
She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Jessie in 1932, her husbands - Willie in 1969 and Lewie in 2006, a son Richard Lee in 1952, daughter Mary Joann in 1982, step daughter Virginia in 2011, four brothers and two sisters.
Mary went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 13, 2019, at the age of 93, at the Ashland Long Term Care Unit, Ashland, Kansas.
Mary is survived by her brother Joe (Patty) Bond of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; Her children:  Norma Cunningham of Scott City Kansas; Phil (Mary Ann) Cunningham of Ashland, Kansas; Myrna (Steve) Sanders of Ozark, Missouri; stepson Ray Cunningham of Topeka, Kansas.
Her Grandchildren:  Jennifer M. Sanders (Jaime) Lozano of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico; Austin M. (Jen K.) Sanders of Springfield, Missouri; Mark W. Sanders of Springfield Missouri;  Preston L. (Andra) Cunningham of Fowler Kansas;  Lindsay A. Cunningham (Jacob) Enlow of Olathe Kansas; Cameron C. Cunningham of Ashland Kansas; Chelsea M. Cunningham (Chris) Boyd of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; Megan A. Cunningham (Grant) Gardiner of Ashland, Kansas.

Obituary Preview: William “Bill” Joseph Steele, age 89, of Ashland, Kansas, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Ashland, Kansas. Bill was the only child to his parents Elwyn Joseph and Lillian Mamie Steele.  Bill was born on July 17, 1929 in Prince Crossing, Illinois.
Bill is preceded in death by his two parents and his loving wife of 52 years, Mildred (Millie) Elaine Steele (Rainey).  Bill is survived by his seven children. Three girls from his first marriage: Virginia Koetter, Peggy and Debra Steele and four children with the love of his life MillIe: Mary Steele (Ashland, KS), Bryan Steele (Eugene, MO), Beverly Sndyer (WaKeeney, KS) and James Steele (Huntsville, AL) and eight grand-children and seven great grandchildren.
Bill grew up in Wheaton, Illinois and graduated from Wheaton High School and joined the United States Air Force. He served his Country honorably from April 1948 – August 1968 earning numerous awards and decorations. During Bill’s 20 years of military service, he served in numerous assignments overseas and stateside.  Amongst his proudest missions was supporting the Berlin Airlift where he earned the Air Force’s “Humane Action” medal for his support and participation.

Allen worked as a carpenter and plumber along side Bob Albert Construction, Mishler’s Service Center; Dave Osborn; and Russ Hensley construction. He also was a handy man fixing all different thing or repairing cars, truck and worked on motorcycles. Allen loved the New York Yankees and Harley Davidson motorcycles.   Allen enjoyed playing the guitar and enjoyed listening to music.  Allen was an animal lover, with his lovely dog Yuhoo, who was always in the pickup with Allen.  Allen was proceeded in death by his parents, and a sister Donna Schmiedeke of Elkhart, Kansas. Allen left his earthly home on February 25, 2019. Allen is survived by his brothers, Ken Ball, Larry Ball and Russell Ball, wife Kristi, Brother in Law, Herb Schmiedeke, nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
