William Brandon Hoffpauir Jr. - April 11, 2000 - February 19, 2022

Departed: 02/19/2022 (Mamou)
Obituary Preview: MAMOU-William Hoffpauir, 21, died on February 19, 2022, from his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. William fought his battle with such courage and strength. On behalf of William, we all would like to thank Lakeview Regional Medical Center for all they did for him. It is because of them that he was able to fight for so long. Over the past three months, the Lakeview staff became what he called his “Lakeview family.” They were always there for both him and the rest of the family, all the way to his last day.
William was a graduate of Mamou High School and at the time of his diagnosis was enrolled at SOWELA Technical Community College at Oakdale to pursue a career as an electrician. Welding was something William always thoroughly enjoyed, and when he was not busy, he was always working on something. Once diagnosed, he decided once he beat his battle, he was going back to SOWELA, but this time he was following his dreams and going to pursue his welding certificate. In his free time, he enjoyed life spent outdoors, fishing and hunting, but especially, watching over his ducks. One might say his idea of a perfect day would be a day spent by the pond with his family.
He was one special young man. He loved and cared, fiercely, for all in his life. He was always helping people and his favorite thing to do during the holidays was to gather with the family and listen to stories. He loved his sisters and loved to tease them too. He was always so happy to be surrounded by his nephew and niece, spoiling them in only a way an uncle could. The joy he had in his heart radiated on his face when seeing and hearing his family, even until his last day. We are forever thankful for all the joy and laughter he brought to our lives.
William is the adored son of Brandon and Anna, cherished brother of Sara and Rebecca, and the loving uncle known as "Bubba" to Jaxon Cooper and Ava Grace. Maternal grandparents are Ralph and Linda Daigle of Ville Platte. Paternal grandparents are Bill and Debbie Hoffpauir of Mamou. He is also loved by his aunts and uncles: Joseph Daigle, Jeret Daigle, Clarissa Daigle, Garrett (Kim) Hoffpauir, and Kayla (Kasey) Reed.
A Celebration of life will be planed at a later date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written announcement of a person's death, often published in a newspaper or online. It typically includes a brief account of the person's life, information about surviving family members, and details regarding the funeral or memorial services.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a formal way to inform the community of an individual’s passing. They honor the deceased by acknowledging their life achievements, and they provide an opportunity for friends and relatives to celebrate their memory and begin the grieving process.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

An obituary is generally a more detailed account of a person's life and is often written by family members or journalists. A death notice is a shorter, factual listing of the death, often placed by the family directly, and may not include extensive biographical details.

Who writes obituaries?

Obituaries can be written by family members, friends, or sometimes journalists or funeral home staff. Whoever has a significant connection to the deceased and can provide a heartfelt and comprehensive tribute is typically the best person to write an obituary.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary. Newspaper obituaries may have a word limit, whereas online obituaries may allow for more detailed accounts. The goal is to concisely capture the essence of the individual's life and legacy.

What should be included in an obituary?

An obituary should include the full name of the deceased, their age at death, place of residence, date and place of death, a brief overview of their life, significant achievements, list of surviving family members, funeral or memorial service details, and any preferred charities for donations.

Is it mandatory to publish an obituary in a newspaper?

No, it is not mandatory to publish an obituary in a newspaper. Some families choose to only share the news within their personal network or via online platforms that cater to obituary postings.

How soon after a death should an obituary be published?

An obituary should be published as soon as practical, typically within a few days after death to inform people of the details of the funeral service or memorial. Timeliness is important as it provides the community with enough notice to attend services.

Can an obituary be published if the funeral has already taken place?

Yes, an obituary can still be published after the funeral has taken place, often to reach a wider audience who may not have been aware of the death or to serve as a lasting tribute to the individual's life.

What tone should an obituary have?

The tone of an obituary should be respectful and honoring to the life of the deceased. While it's primarily informative, it can include personal touches, anecdotes, and a sense of the person's character or spirit.

Should an obituary include a cause of death?

Including the cause of death in an obituary is a personal choice and is not required. Some families may choose to include this detail for transparency or to raise awareness for certain medical conditions, while others may prefer to keep it private.

Can you include a photo in an obituary?

Yes, you can include a photo in an obituary. Many obituaries feature a recent photograph of the deceased, but some families choose a picture from earlier in life. The selected photo is typically one that is a good representation of the individual.

Where can I find examples of obituaries to help me write one?

You can find examples of obituaries in local newspapers, on funeral home websites, or by searching for online obituary archives. These examples can serve as a template or guideline for creating a personalized obituary.

Is it acceptable to add humor to an obituary?

Yes, it can be acceptable to add humor to an obituary if it fits the personality of the deceased and is done tastefully. It is important to ensure that the humor respects the memory of the deceased and is appropriate for all audiences.

What should not be included in an obituary?

Personal information that could be used for identity theft, such as full birth date, Social Security numbers, home address, and mother's maiden name, should be avoided. Additionally, overly negative comments or private family disputes are not appropriate for obituaries.

How can I ensure that the obituary is factually accurate?

To ensure the factual accuracy of an obituary, double-check all dates, names, and locations with reliable sources, such as official documents or close family members. It's crucial to review the final draft carefully before publishing.

Can obituaries be updated or corrected after they have been published?

Yes, obituaries can often be updated or corrected after publication, especially in online formats. For newspapers, a correction notice might be issued. Contact the publication or website administrator to make the necessary changes.

Is there a cost associated with publishing an obituary?

Yes, most newspapers charge a fee to publish obituaries, determined by length and whether a photograph is included. Online obituary postings may have different pricing structures, and some platforms offer free space for obituaries.

How do families cope with the task of writing an obituary during their time of grief?

Writing an obituary during a time of grief can be therapeutic as it allows families to reflect on and celebrate the life of their loved one. However, it can also be challenging, so seeking the assistance of other family members, friends, or professionals is often advisable.

Where can obituaries be posted online?
